Great tip on the shoes. Been in a couple different stores that only sell athletic shoes and never got this kind of guidance when asking about determining what is best support. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos.
I just started watching and doing your videos. I’m a male going on 75yrs and was supposed to have knee replacement in 2 weeks. My right knee was extremely painful when I stood up and walked. However, recently the pain has diminished to where there’s very little pain but still stiff. I’ve been doing different exercises and walking inside the house at a rate of average 28 minutes per mile. I’m planning on canceling my surgery since the pain has diminished. Do you think doing these exercises will continue to help? Thanks
This was just what I needed today, as I'm trying to increase my walking distance. I struggle with finding enough support in my shoes combined with impact resistance in the sole/insole to combat plantar fasciitis. Any advice? I definitely agree about walking poles - as a former Nordic skier, I LOVE mine! My tip I like to share is to do walking loops versus out-and-back routes if you're increasing distance. That way you can stop more easily when you need to and avoid overdoing it, which for me leads to backsliding in progress. ❤
@@beckygwinn2107 Thank you! I will check them out. I think also Oofos has a new model of walking shoes (vs. recovery shoes) that I'm going to look at too.
Just found you and so grateful! Thank you for all your tips. I wonder if you might share the brand/style of the shoe you demonstrated in this video. I would like some guidance of where to start looking. So many choices out there! Thank you so much! 😊
Awesome tips! I just recovered from a spine surgery & 2 months later a knee replacement! So learning how to walk again. I have the walking poles I just took out of storage. I was using a cane for 8 months before the surgeries so it has been difficult & painful for me unfortunately. Also just got new Sketcher walking shoes & the suggestion of smaller steps makes its much easier to walk for me at this beginning of my rehab! you are an awesome PT instructor-better than all the ones I have used here in California. Thank you for then expert recommendations!
What about Kizik brand shoes or other step in shoes? I have custom orthotics and use Kizik’s shoes because I have trouble with knee flexion so I can just step on the heel and get my foot in.
So glad you like the channel. You would want to follow guidance from the person who diagnosed you with a tear as they have had 1v1 experience with your specific injury.
Hi Alyssa🙋♀️( HELP) I am so pleased that I found your channel, it was recommended to me by a utube friend as I have recently been diagnosed with Osteoporosis but have suffered from osteoarthritis since my 60’s. I will be 80 in a few weeks and been active all my life until my early 70’s. (I was a line dance teacher for 15 years) I had a medial knee replacement in June 2021 which I thought would be a quick recovery and back to walking 3-5 miles a day. I don’t have much trouble with the medial except when I knocked it badly, my problem is the outer knee which hasn’t been pain free at all. My doctor says it’s soft tissue /synovial swelling on lateral aspect. I struggle to walk very far outside now so bought a walking treadmill but now suffering pain after a few minutes, I can sometimes manage 2 x 10 minute sessions. Have you any tips that would help or guide me to one of your videos that may help me. I would like to get back to walking 1-2 miles daily if possible. Thank you. EDIT: I had a bad fall down 14 steps at the end of August at my sons and spinal xray showed L4/L5 are fused, I do suffer from lower back pain. I have lost 14 pounds in the past few months to try and help.

ive been told i have a complex meniscus tear and tricompartmental osteoarthritis. i had cortisone shots then had three hyaluronic gel injections. not sure whats coming next. hoping to avoid a knee replacement. i do some of your exercises the best i can and do my recumbant bike. wondering if pool exercises might benefit me.

Great tips. I love walking. I was walking 6.41 miles 5-6 days a week but got away from it the last 3 years because of life circumstances. As soon as our weather warms up a little I’m back out there. I was just diagnosed with osteoporosis. Also have osteoarthritis in my left knee. So walking is important to me
I have worn heels most of my life and was recently told that someone with knee issues could never wear heels again. Is this correct? I really can't stand wearing sneakers and was wondering your thoughts about it. Thanks for your help.😊❤

I’d like to know too!
heels do not really put your foot in an optimal position and typically have narrow toe boxes that don't allow for natural movement.
@@arthritisadventure Thank you for your answer to my question. 🙂
What do you think about Nordic walking poles Alyssa?
They can be helpful too!
🌺
Glad you liked it!
❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
So glad you love it!
Are barefoot shoes good? 🤔
pending what brand you're referencing, but barefoot shoes generally have lower amount of support.
🎉❤😅😊
Glad you liked the video!
Me here thinking walking is a warm up 🤔
it can be! although others can experience pain when walking.
What about presenting some shoes are not sneakers ! Women want also to wear OTHER shoes
This video was created to talk about walking shoes.
Dr. Alyssa, you must get a lot of compliments on your beautiful legs.
I do. Lot's of hard work.
