Keith and Eugene are actually musicians. Keith plays the french horn and was actually given a scholarship to be a French horn performance major, but he dropped out of it. And Eugene learned the oboe as a child. They’re not really familiar with the string family but is familiar with the music community. Maybe that’s why Keith knows how violas are oppressed 😂

@@anii7741 - Music is a learned skill. It's about practicing and having fun. If you don't enjoy playing an instrument that's one thing, but the reality is that people have to cultivate their musical abilities through time and effort. A person can be born with a natural talent for something and never realize much potential because they they don't develop it through practice, and another person who was born with less of a starting gift can become amazing because they love it enough to really pursue it. A good teacher who loves what they do can make a huge difference. If you love something don't let the thought that you don't have talent hold you back. Doing things you love enhances your life in so many ways. If you don't love playing music, just keep looking for something you do love.

Saying both violins are the leader would be like saying that when you have two guitars in a band, they could both be the leaders. Nope, not how it works.
"That was okay, out of the 10 seconds that she played,"
except for claiming to play a specific song that was definitely not the song, fingers on the board being wrong, strings out of tune, bow placement, and bow hand being wrong. But, yeah, she totally did OK.

My brother played violin for a year in elementary, and during covid I picked up the violin. My brother came into my room when I was practicing once and said he still remembered how to play (him now being 17). So, being the good sister I am, I let him try, and (with no hesitation) he immediately started playing on the finger board with a death grip on the bow. Never again, lol

Also the Tom Hiddleston scene besides being one of the better ones is actually pretty smart from a filmmaking perspective
I've seen that film several times(Only Lovers Left Alive by Jim Jarmusch, great stuff if you're into vampires and alternative films), in it Tom is a vampire, who is supposed to be centuries old and have met/known several key figures in history, including musicians, and he himself is implied to be a accomplished multi-instrumetalist(with all those centuries to practice who wouldn't).
In the film tho he is mainly a guitarrist and does some weird drone music stuff, which starts to get some unwanted attention after he lends some of his tapes to a friend, and he, a secluded vampire living in Detroit, wants to remain anonymous and safe.
In that scene a group of fans find out where he lives and start approaching his apartment, and thus he takes the dust of his old violin(which we assume he played very well sometime in the past) and from mind starts playing something annoying and classical that is sure to drive off a crowd of noise alternative rock hipsters, in this case Paganini Caprice n5.
And that's why it's rusty and not too good sounding, having a couple of mistakes here, but still being a difficulty piece only someone very familiar with the instrument would know how to play, as he is supposed to be out of shape and not touched the instrument for years, but also have been a virtuoso.
He's also primarily trying to fend off the fans, so playing well is not a priority.
Also how the scene is shot and all, filmed from the back of the violin, dim lit, as it not to show the fingerboard or bow all that well helps sell it as a real thing for someone who isn't a professional violinist.

"It requires a lot of talent to not have your cello break on an airplane" OH BOY. YOU DO NOT WANT TO HEAR MY EXPERIENCE WITH THAT.
Edit: Apparently you did so here goes.
So I had lived in England for 3 years, and picked up the cello there. Unfortunately, my dad’s PCS there only lasted for 3 years, so we were moving back to America. At this point, I was advanced enough to be using an antique french cello worth around 2k. It was also a pretty rare find, since I’m a small person who uses a 3/4 cello, and good, small cellos are hard to find. So it was clear we weren’t selling it then buying one in America. My teacher suggested getting it a plane seat for the transatlantic flight, as she had done it before. It would be expensive (the cello’s seat would not be funded by my dad’s workplace), but we were going to try it. Here’s where things get stupid.
So we call American Airlines to book a seat on the flight as a non person (you can actually do that usually) but they tell us that our flight is booked on a plane owned by British Airways, so that can’t book the seat without a passport. They don’t do anything about it to help us after that. Then, we call British Airways, to see if we can book the seat through them. They tell us that THEY can’t book it either because our tickets, the ones the cello would be attached to, were booked through American Airlines. British Airways does nothing to help us after that as well. My mum, very frustrated with this whole thing, literally DOWNLOADS TWITTER just to tweet on both of the airline’s pages saying how bad her experience was. She planned to keep doing this until one of them gave in and booked it for us, or until they worked together to book a seat. Long story short, neither of them ever did, and time was running out so we couldn’t keep waiting it out.
We ended up using some shippers who specialise in antiques, but when we got the the US (my cello was supposed to arrive a couple weeks later) it just didn’t. You can see that I was pretty freaked out right then, also I have stress issues and often play my cello as an emotional anchor. So not only did I have to deal with major homesickness and stress from moving countries, AND having stomach problems from said stress, my cello wasn’t there to play. After a little bit (not very long, but long enough for me to freak out) we got a call from the antique shippers, saying that they couldn’t get the cello through customs, and put the customs person on the phone. She said “what is a C-H-E-L-O?” After explaining that the people who SPECIALIZE in shipping this stuff had misspelled it, they told us that we had to pay an import tax on it (which is only paid if you bring it to the US to sell it). I think we ended up paying it, but that was.. more than frustrating. After finally getting the cello home (a few old cracks had opened up by the way) we get the cracks glued back together and I finally get to play it. Then, I had to look for a teacher... tell me in replies if you’d like the story about that, it’s shorter but still something!
Oh, one extra tidbit of stupidity on the airline’s part: once we got on the plane (after having our tickets checked numerous times throughout the airport, without anybody asking if we had another ticket in our family) the flight attendant, and I quote, asks “where’s the cello?” It turns out that they HAD given in and given the cello a seat on the flight, but just hadn’t told us. I mean, at least I got to lay across two seats on a transatlantic flight, but that’s about it.
