How on earth have you only got 360,000 subscribers? You should have at least 1,500,000 by now. You are a genius and this channel is so much more than just you talking to a camera and people listening. You talk to the people, the camera just lets them hear you. I hope one day you can do things on a bigger budget , but that's not the point. People don`t watch your channel for the technology you use, but for the way you see it, the way you use it,the way you understand it on a much deeper level than anyone else. The way it isn't the film people watch it for but the message behind it and how it portrays the characters universe and how it might relate to their own. You inspired me to make films and even though 99% of the time I wasn't making films because I knew I couldn't do it, I still came back to see what you had to say and every time it blew my mind away. It is amazing having an insight in your life so please keep going with this channel forever.
I love how honest you are in your videos. Also how you actually give good advices and try to explain every detail and care about people learning. Much appreciated.
Thank you for your content Simon. I'm a photographer, videographer and youtuber myself and this kind of insight is very useful on this amazing way of building our own paths as creators :D Greetings from Spain!
Hi Simon, first up thanks for being so open and truthful to us, your audience and for really telling us what and how things go on within your channel. And a really big thank you for making all of these videos, I really appreciate that. Alex
dear Simon thank you for being open and honest. I love your channel because you make quality videos I learn from, and Videos i can trust are going to be True, Clean, and valuable for me. Thank you for all the inspiration.
I have watched most of your videos and if there is one thing why you are my favorite youtube channel and why you are growing so quick is because of your honesty. You are one of the most honest youtubers. Keep it up!
You seem like a really descent guy ! still finding the way with my channel, only picked up a camera about 12 weeks ago ! but soo addicted to youtube ! got my first 100,000 views last week, but hard to get Subs ! but i love making clips they are getting better and better - thanks for your clips, I watch them a lot and they are really helping me, love your honesty !!
I really appreciate this video. I always get mad when people are upset over disclosed sponsorships. Creating is a hard living and the more money creators make, the more content they can make and the higher the quality it will be.
I have amassed 11 sponsors on my channel over 9 years and have managed to do pretty damn good for myself, my audience and my sponsors. It requires a lot of balancing and because I work with sponsors that I purchased products from before sponsorship our relationships are on point.
I really like how you've ventured into more of a variety of content recently, not being just as much about DSLR based filmmaking. I love your videos and keep up the good work!
Just discovered your channel, really great stuff! I find that when I really like a RUclipsr, it actually makes me happy to see them getting sponsored or even creating content that is solely for a company. I only have a problem with it when it becomes overbearing, or creates downgrades in quality or slows productivity significantly. How overbearing an ad is is of course up to personal preference, but a review of a product every once in a while is no problem.
DSLRguide Nah man, you will have to send a mail to youtube support, mentioning your channel link, various social media accounts details and ask them to give you the verify badge... Your channel should be in good standing, linked to a google+ page and have a phone number associated with it before sending the mail, they will verify in 48 hours... Just go to support.google.com/youtube and send a mail by clicking on the "Contact Support" button on the top right corner... I really love your videos and All the best !!!
Realistic and upfront. Your channel truly has been helpful. I feel like everyday my skills grow and I just enjoy more everyday! Bring a thought, Bring a Smile, Bring a emotion and tell a story. Thanks Simon
Yeah I've been learning about Sponsorships lately, interesting topics, RUclips allows you to self flag the video that puts a little text at the bottom left for sponsored content. I spoke with YT as well and they said they attempt to not put competing ad sense ads on the sponsored videos
The amount of value that your provide is pretty impressive. If some people get offended with sponsorship they are just selfish. The hours you put in just for one episode is worth way more than a like and a subscription. I'm all for sponsorship's! :) Too many freeloaders.
I'm comment nr. 500 - cool story I know. But now let's get serious: I really love your vidoes. Your so serious, so funny and honest: I love it. Also your voice in combination of your british acent is soooo nice to just listen to. You've got my sub already some monthes ago but by now I'm starting to watch all of them straight in a row :D
I think Bob on I Like To Make Stuff handles sponsorships really well. It's not a long drawn out advertisement and there's normally still something to watch on a split screen or overlay while he's talking about the sponsorship. Hoping to have some kind of sponsors on my channel someday!
Bob is good with his. Very transparent about the content and advertiser, and I'm quite honestly more likely to purchase something he's advertising if I think it might help him out too.
I started a lil over a year ago when I was deployed in Kuwait and when I started I was monetizing the videos because I didn't want the viewers to get surprised later on. But you make an excellent point that for now it doesn't matter but to be prepared anyway. I especially like that you brought up integrity about the ads. Very cool! I am now subscriber thank you for your content and keep it going.
Literally 90% of his videos are sponsored by brands, so personally I always take his generally good advice with a grain of salt. Just because you say "I am being sponsored" doesn't mean you are being totally honest, just transparent. I am glad he made this video to clear up where he stands on this stuff
Thanks for that Simon. You bring up some interesting points. It's come to a stage now when I've started unsubscribing to channels because of lengthy and repetitive references to products, web hosting and companies. I even got twinges when you lifted up the headphones, twice! :) As for product reviews ... aaarrgg! I don't know what or who to believe. Keep up the good work, I always look forward to your vids.
Simon, another absolutely superb video. Well done mate, very clear and informative video and well edited. You have done yourself proud. All the best Stew :))
I know it's extremely clear, but the fact that they've been setting aside a decent chunk of their videos to tell us about domain-blooming-com for literally past 10 years amuses me
With film riot as well as linus tech tips and many others, there is a clear section in the video just for sponsors. May it be the one part that is not about the topic, has its own introduction or just is completely different build up like that full colorful page in magazines between the articles.
There's no right answer, I just prefer content like simons thats more genuine and less showy-addvertisy-basically-a-tv-commercial type thing. That's why I watch RUclips instead of dvds. But that is the glory of yt, theres a massive variety and it's almost always indie.
I rarely ever go back to a video once I'm interrupted to do something and yet here I am 2 days later finishing watching your video. Great and clear video as always 😊
Thanks diving into this. It's extremely helpful for those of us that are starting out. It's good to hear it from someone who has already been doing it for awhile.
Thanks great content. I never got why people got upset at sponsored reviews, they do it all the time with Remote control products and videos and it's great to see different peoples perspectives
Simon, I want to ask, how the tick box section of "this video contains sponsorship" really affects? is it disabling your ads when your videos contain sponsorship, or... limiting ads so it doesn't conflict with your sponsor? do you still get money from youtube ads when your video contains sponsor? thanks, i hope you answer.
no one knows for sure, but RUclips claims that it just means that they won't run ads from the brand's competitors. So if you made a video sponsored by Microsoft, they would try to avoid ads from Apple..
HI I AM FROM BANGLADESH .... ITS VERY URGENT TO TALK WITH YOU. ITS VERY URGENT
8 лет назад
No, the small text that says "paid promotion" is optional, you can tick another box, that says "help me notify my viewers that this is sponsored" something along these lines. Then it shows the text spot. :)
Hey, Simon! What mic are you using in your videos? I love the sound of the dialogue...AND...thanks for the GREAT teaching! Love what you're doing, bud!
perhaps the most honest video about "u-tubing" I see so many big names who r advertising shaving creams for their computer hardware reviews or giving views which r totally opposite to ground realities, like the other day a very famous tabloid ran a review of GoPro Karma and the video was horrendous giving undue benefit to the product over its competitor, it was all over the video that it was an "advert" but like u said US laws n content creators r not as loyal to audience like many Europeans are. I think this video should be must watch for anyone viewing RUclips or creating content for it.
I would never have a problem with you making any money from any of the videos or sponsors, even if you had not told us. I assume you are an open and helpful person, based on how you talk to us and what you do in your videos. It's important for you to be able to make a living. And you seem to do that honestly. Good for you. 👍🏻
Great video dude. It's the same with me, I battled whether to do sponsorships. I now have a clear mind as you may see! It allows me to spend more time on making the content better. :)
thanks Will - that's the crucial thing, money = time! by the way, finally released the t-shirt you designed: store.dftba.com/products/high-quality-content-shirt
Great topic for all the people who wants to start a RUclips channel. It's important to share each others experiences and make people motivated. I really appreciate that you keep sharing yours Simon, thanks! Awesome video as always! Keep up the great content.
Simon I am so happy that I Found your channel !!!! Your videos are both inspirational aswell as extremely informative to me as a future RUclips content creator!!!! Thank you so very much!!!!!!!!!!
Bluescreen in an editor it's quite simple. Just download a simple paper texture, and you can overlay it on top of your video and change the opacity. Or you could change the blending mode for more interesting results!
Simon I've been watching your videos for so long now and I love them! I apologize but this time I must mention something .. the background music near the end while you were talking was some of the most stress-inducing and unpleasant I've heard in a while , I know you're great and will do better in the future! All the best
Simon, do you need to declare the money you earn from RUclips, and do you have to pay tax on it? Thanks for this video, and all your others. Love what you do man!

Dublowduck well put!

I don't mind ads,

Very well said, its a tough one. I personally just refuse any companies that are against my values
This is OUTSTANDING advice! Thanks!
For real, mad and most respected youtuber/filmmaker on this platform.

this guy has an incredibly soothing voice.
I really appreciate this video. I always get mad when people are upset over disclosed sponsorships. Creating is a hard living and the more money creators make, the more content they can make and the higher the quality it will be.
Last time I was on your channel you were sitting at around 100k subs, now you're nearly at 400k! Congrats Simon!
One of the most honest channels on youtube.I have a tech channel and I can totally relate.Great video man.
"This episode was sponsored by Casey Neistat" :D

where has this channel been all my life? you're very intelligent, informative, and well spoken!
Hey Simon, please get your channel verified...the ✔ symbol is pretty important next to a channel name
that's up to google, not me!

The laws about advertising in Uk are so bloody lovely!
you sound really honest man. I appreciate that. thank you.

Filmriot just got a lil bit _roasted_ ;)
ETMO how?? Filmriot literally says "Sponsor Time"! They're the most upfront about it.
Yeah, they sometimes say "...but first, it's time to pay some bills"
I know it's extremely clear, but the fact that they've been setting aside a decent chunk of their videos to tell us about domain-blooming-com for literally past 10 years amuses me

Very important video and great for people like me who are only starting out on RUclips! Thanks for sharing this

Simon I am so happy that I Found your channel !!!! Your videos are both inspirational aswell as extremely informative to me as a future RUclips content creator!!!! Thank you so very much!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for great tips!
How did you create that "crinkled-paper"-filter like in 2:08? It looks really cool and it would be great if you could tell us how you made it!
Bluescreen in an editor it's quite simple. Just download a simple paper texture, and you can overlay it on top of your video and change the opacity. Or you could change the blending mode for more interesting results!

You are so honest 😘 love it
Thank you for another informative video
Great informative video yet again. Thanks
Fantastic video!! We really learned a lot - and love your channel :)
I always find your technique tutorials really useful. Thanks for this different, but still useful, explanation of the money-side of RUclips videos.
Nicely made mate... really useful information! Keep it up :D
Now I feel like I have to buy those headphones. You have no idea how much I've spent on apples since I started watching this channel!
Insightful video Simon! We all appreciate your honesty, RUclips could use a lot more of it
Simon, do you need to declare the money you earn from RUclips, and do you have to pay tax on it? Thanks for this video, and all your others. Love what you do man!
of course! RUclips income is the same as any other kind of self employed income, you have to declare it and pay income tax every year
simon, you and justin escalona are the only two that i know of who are open about this topic, thank you for talking about this!
Wow, I have so much respect towards you. Integrity is key
Outstanding video Simon! Love the tips!
Informative overview Simon, great vid! Now to get good enough to get sponsorship...
Thanks again for being so honest. its greatly appreciated.
I love your channel man! Thank you!
I think you fell into all of the sponsorships you described, but I'm glad you have integrity with your sponsorships
