About BA-1 The Legacv: BA-1 is based on a portable 1980s synth with a toylike appearance and a gritty sound. Despite its small size, it left a big mark on music history, while still flying somewhat under the hype radar. The original has been used as a secret weapon for bubbly synth textures by some of Sweden's most successful pop producers of the past two decades. It was also a staple of 1990s digital dancehall and beloved by the indietronica scene for its raw lo-fi quality. The original hardware has never been properly captured in software form. So for our first ever synth, we started there The Sound: In keeping with our motto "it's an evolution, not an emulation", we modeled the hardware with the greatest possible accuracy, before carefully upgrading it with new and useful features. A second analog-modeled oscillator, FM, polyphony, and more, help to vastly expand the sonic palette of the original. All while keeping its signature sound unspoiled. Additionally, BA-1 lets you drain the battery, bend the circuits, and use the built-in speaker - for an authentic lo-fi aesthetic that you could normally only get with hardware. The Effects: If you know our company, you'll know that effects are our specialty. So we've treated BA-1 with an FX section worthy of its own plugin. The effects chain is inspired by budget 1980s rack hardware and captures the lo-fi charm of the home studio scene of the era. The overdrive is modeled after a guitar pedal, while the delay, reverb and chorus effects are based on cheap, but amazing, digital rack units. In BA-1, the effects are not an afterthought but an ingrained part of the sonic signature The Simplicitv: BA-1 is simple, but surprisingly tweakable. We've put great effort into tuning all parameters to be in the perfect sweet spot. This results in a rewarding programming workflow where tweaking BA-1 is a lot of fun and vou'll create new patches on repeat. And if a simple interface is not fast enough, you can always use the smart 'Re-Gen' feature. Hit Re-Gen and BA-1 will automatically create new and musically tuned patches with every click. I love the graphical design of the synth, it’s calming and understandable. Can't read anything, the font is almost non-existent. Sound is a good representation of the vibe from that time period. Thank you @GavinskisTutorials, watched all adds without skip, you gonna pay for this torture! ;)

It is definitely the best randomizer I have come across, hands down!! That alone is huge. Despite my UI misgivings, I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who likes these kinds of sounds and wants an extremely easy-to-tweak synth!
Today I released 102 presets for Copperhead Synth on my gumroad store. In the beginning, I was disappointed that Baby Audio released an emulation. I would prefer something original. But then I realized that this synth perfectly performs the same function that the hardware once performed. Simple, almost like a toy that is great for creativity.
This synth really surprised me. Like someone mentioned in the comments, “very Vangelis like”. And like someone else mentioned, “you’re always honest in your reviews”. True. So let me also be honest: do I really need another synth app? Absolutely not. Do I want to win a free copy of it? Absolutely yes. And btw, do the words sleep and bed mean anything to you. Do you even own a bed 😊
Pity they don't give the ios version free to desktop buyers. The desktop version at full price is expensive enough to expect that, I reckon, and pianoteq showed that's possible
I think 100 bucks is full price, I'm sure the desktop version will go on heavy sales, as all plugin boutique apps tend to, so definitely wait for a sale. I lived in Brazil for a year and a half btw, in my 20s. Loved it!
I know I've certainly been guilty of wasted space but I appreciate your ideas at the end that desktop devs should take more care to design for iOS! I think iOS is a unique platform that requires a different design approach than desktop.

It’s crazy how many great synth apps keep coming out. This definitely sounds like one of them.
Its a great synth debut
Thanks, Gavin! I'm still trying to get my mind around what is really unique with this one. ;-)
Not 100% sure whether it is that unique, but that’s more my own ignorance of 80s analogue hardware. The main pros to me are: 1. Sounds great 2. Easy to dial in sounds, like, ridiculously easy 3. 500+ presets. 4. Amazingly good results from the randomizer.
@@GavinskisTutorials Yes - the randomizer looks very AI'ish. Rather than "500+ presets", with the randomizer it is more like infinite presets!
Thank you for the demo Gav another clear and interesting video from you!!!

Great video, I really like these sounds and agree about the interface feeling very intuitive. It really makes me want to play it!

This thing looks so cool!
Apart from the über-miniscule font, yeah!

Very cute and friendly synth.
CS from Yamaha is my favorite sound 👍🏼
Nice simple layout. Great for synth beginners. 👍
Absolutely perfect for that, and - I guess - the fact that the desktop version has been selling like hotcakes
Let's go !
Just bought this for windows, but would have preferred it for iOS
Pity they don't give the ios version free to desktop buyers. The desktop version at full price is expensive enough to expect that, I reckon, and pianoteq showed that's possible
Sounds great.
I like it, thank you.
Awesome! For brazillian its so expensive. 100 bucks on intro sale O.o! But Im a big fan of CS 😅 pls god
I think 100 bucks is full price, I'm sure the desktop version will go on heavy sales, as all plugin boutique apps tend to, so definitely wait for a sale. I lived in Brazil for a year and a half btw, in my 20s. Loved it!
Finally!
I fight everytime to get them away from 1:1 ports, UI wise but also making real use of the touchscreen and such...
Yes - it’s such a bitch. That’s why I love the fact that Modalics did a custom iOS version, not just a straight JUCE port
Great synth!
Pretty inspiring tool.
Thanks!
Lovely sounds. Where does your accent come from? I hear a Northern Irish twang…
Yep, that's right, though it is fairly mellow from years of living abroad
Greetings and thanks from the AB.
Always good to see ABF heads here!
I know I've certainly been guilty of wasted space but I appreciate your ideas at the end that desktop devs should take more care to design for iOS! I think iOS is a unique platform that requires a different design approach than desktop.
What are some of the best designed music apps for iOS in your opinion?
Hi Ryan, appreciate your comment! Let me think about that and get back to you!
Nice sound and good layout 👍
Thanks for the video! Did BA forget to add Midi CC mapping to the iOS Port?
There is no midi learn in the app, but the parameters are exposed
Great video
Random is ao good❤
Best I've heard yet!
good synth
Do I need another synth? Probably not, but it sounds great... 😂
yeah!
I hope to win it.
