My struggle with 'The 48 Laws of Power' is that it is so packed with information that I have to read a page-or-two - then live with what I've read for a bit before moving on. Sometimes it can be a single paragraph. In my experience with the book, it's more useful if you don't approach it like you would a work of fiction - reading it in a few days. I always have a 'main book' that I'm reading - but also 'check in on' 48 Laws periodically.
My struggle wasn't that, it was that it was really deceitful and underhanded with no explanation as to why. Instead of guiding you through the laws with an understanding that this is what some psychopaths are like.., it guides you through the book as if this is what people in general are like. Most people aren't like that in real life.

These two guys are amazing, I've learned a lot from them this year and I'm somehow so happy to find out the other day that they are friends and colleagues ❤
This needs to be listened to daily sometimes I get clouded by my bad thoughts and insecurities but listening to Robert and Ryan I realize that people are out of my control and they have there own insecurities and issues they deal with life but we view others with to much importance well people that bring negative emotions towards when in reality those type of people don’t matter because they envy and don’t want what’s best for you
The book is not about Stoicism… it’s about people who are powerful and probably Narcissistic.. Many people in power know how to manipulate, charm, lie, triangulate, gaslight, make people walk on eggshells…. Look like good guys… can initially be the people you admire.. until you find out who they truly are..
great video , loved # 7 . my realization exactly when visiting Glacier National Park. i went with a gal pal and was so out of touch with nature on 30 miles of hiking and only realized all the significance of the geology around -on my last day when i saw a guy pulled over looking at a particular formation. that sparked my curiosity. i felt like i sleptwalked thru that trip. going back to actually absorb.
So cute to watch two grown-up kids talking about something they never got through themselves. You are up to a surprise, when you watch all your Stoics fly out of the window once Life seriously bends you over. Before that happens (and trust me, I do wish you to avoid that), give your coin as a gift to someone dying in pain or who's watching their loved ones die slowly and painfully, and teach them to "love their fate". Ah, BTW, enjoyed reading your book about "difficulties as opportunities" while Life was grinding me against a wall, maybe survived because of that reading -- after all, laughter, they say, is the best medicine

Agreed. I was introduced to 48 Laws through Ryan, because I'm such an admirer and proponent of Stoic philosophy. Then I started reading "48 Laws..." and Greene lost me already at #7: "Get Others to Do the Work for You, but Always Take the Credit: Get others to do your work for you. Use their skill, time, and energy to further your ambitions while taking full credit. You’ll be admired for your efficiency." Seriously? This seems completely antithetical to Stoic philosophy. Many of the other rules are fine, but some of them read more like "48 Laws of being an A-hole."
@@-CrampedStyle- It's not supposed to be a guidebook, but rather an attempt towards understanding the different attitudes that attract power. As the book doesn't limit itself to good or bad morals, it is obviously going to expose attitudes that people take that go against Stoic principles because they work. And it is precisely because they work, that any person, no matter their philosophy, should understand the book. A stoic's character doesn't depend on the external circumstances they are handed, but it will always be preferable to avoid ruin and gain prosperity. The book contributes towards favoring prosperity when it comes to social intelligence as a way to avoid power traps.
48 Laws is RAW human nature. We don't have to like/agree nor act out every law. We just need to understand it and identify when it's being used by others in the real world.
Just realized that robert had a mole near his eye. It seems it was cancerous and had to be removed. That's why in some of the clips he has a scar and inflammation near his eye from surgery. Hope he is doing OK. Just started listening to his book on power. It is a must read as Ryan called out. Wish robert health and swift recovery.

Then make one video for about 20 min for each tip that you can have in the description for people who wants to deep dive into that one tip one how to improve something or similar.

I’m sorry to hear that you are suffering. A mental exercise I use is to picture being dropped off in the middle of nowhere - with just the clothes on my back. I need food, water, shelter, warmth. Compared to this hypothetical, I do have an abundance of these things. This is where my appreciation of my life begins. But I don’t just have the aforementioned. I have light at the flick of a switch. I have a computer that gives me access to more information than I could possibly absorb. I have a car that will take me wherever I want to go. I can drive to a store and choose from an abundance of food. I can speak to a loved one halfway around the world - using a device that fits in my pocket. I can connect with strangers - like I’m doing now - to let them know that they are not alone and that there are ‘miracles’ all around us if we pay attention. Every product or service that we enjoy in our lives is a connection with a stranger who is adding to the net value of our experience. You are supported by people all over the world who are contributing to your life - and who you may never meet - but who still offer value to you. I can’t help you with your struggles - but hopefully, this helps shift some of the focus away from them - and draws attention to things that we all tend to take for granted. I sincerely wish the very best for you.

I was thinking about embracing stoicism but then I realized depending on the type of career you have (police officer, military, competing sports) wouldn't stoicism hender you?
I have the book 48 laws of power, it is a very popular book in prison and gang life, I never finished it, i was disgusted with it. There is a reason why groups that victimize people love it. I’m confused and disappointed and I don’t see why the daily stoic would promote this. Money maybe ….

I first read this book in 2017 and it honestly was a huge eye opener and changes my life in so many ways I never thought was possible. For the better.
