There's plenty of reasons why I'm avoiding using heavy makeup nowadays but I think it's worth mentioning how the journey of getting into makeup felt/feels magical (at least to me). Idc how many times I see random ppl do their makeup I eat it up EVERYTIME 😭 I love seeing the products work, the details, technique, different makeup styles. It's truly art. It makes me fall in love with makeup all over again in a way that makes me excited to "play" with a shiny new toy that also allows me to express myself. Ofc there's issues where you might only feel pretty with makeup, don't know if you're wearing it just to impress others, etc. It's all very nuanced and the thoughts are always there for me but it's not like I truly believe I NEED makeup. For a while I went out gradually decreasing makeup products used on my face until I wore bits of concealer and lipstick only... and turns out I like myself with minimal/no makeup too. It's a different look and feel but the healthiest way to look at it is that you look beautiful both ways but will look like a different kind of beautiful depending on whether you choose to wear makeup or not. You're still you, you're still gorgeous, just with less or more makeup 🥰
Love the anti-consumerist perspective about makeup. That's definitely a major reason why I don't wear any either. Just wanted to say that I love your content, your presence and way of speaking is so comforting! All the best!!!!
Growing up every time someone would do make up on me I felt uglier. My friends would get mad at me that I’d waste their time and then proceed to take it off lol.
I have the same story growing up and I agree with your thoughts. Now 29, I feel more beautiful with no makeup just being myself! And being able to rub my eyes anytime of day🤣
Couldn’t agree more, I don’t like make up at all, honestly I probably do make up 2 times a year just when a celebration happens and I don’t like it even, also the products of make up are infinite if i tried to take something new i would really take ages to decide which product would fit my shade ( which I don’t know 😂) and it’s so expensive too and as i said I would applied for two times a year so after i see the price I would just say i will continue using whatever i have currently which most probably have expired from years 🏃🏻♀️➡️
I too question the morality of everything and look at everything from a hyper aware aspect. My friend who also thinks likes this blames it on being a Scorpio Rising, lol. But either way, I like makeup, it makes me look pretty :) I think this one comes down to preference!

No it's not. My mom is 42 she has never worn make up and doesn't (she's beautiful still). Same goes for my aunties. Make up isn't e necessity unless you make it. I'm sure you look beautiful without make up as well.
eh makeup is only as necessary as you make it. Wrinkles, blemishes, smile lines, etc. I think they are all beautiful in their own right and being able to age and cherish life is a wonderful thing. It's a shame that many feel embarrassed of that stuff because it's completely normal and being able to age and gain wisdom and experience is just so precious and nothing wrong with looking older really.
@thegreatbenis225 fun fact: most women wear makeup cause they find it amusing and see it as a part of art, no one wears makeup to look attractive for men, so saying "me and most men aren't attracted to makeup" doesn't really make a difference.
I could never get into makeup. Our “rule” growing up was starting at age 12 you could try one new makeup product per year and I could never get into it. I’ve said I will only wear it for weddings- if I’m in photos or my own one day, and that’s it. I paid a friend to do my bridal party makeup last weekend, fine by me and brought hypoallergenic mascara since I know I’m allergic. It’s just not needed in my opinion, being able to easily rub your eyes or get that pesky lash out is priceless, and one less thing to do before work and before bed, money saver… And even with the dating thing… I figured and believe if a man is going to see me, this is who I am make up free.

I’ve seen a new thing called man repellent makeup. It’s a style of makeup meant to keep men far away and to make you kinda unapproachable by men. And I love the idea of using something men created to repel them!!! Mwahaha
I mean, that's still male centered. You're still centering the male gaze by doing that, whether you're doing things to repel men or to attract men. Both approaches center around what men want or don't want. Ideally, you'd be wearing make up (or not wearing it) because you enjoy it. Regardless of whether it attracts or repels men or not.
Also, I hate this Idea because it puts responsibility back on women when it comes to women being harassed and such. It promotes the idea that the harassment or assault women face is the result of how women dress, which promotes the whole toxic "what was she wearing?" thing.
