exactlyyy we should have more of a fear of not missing out than missing out. when you "miss out" you're really just gaining more time to connect and be with yourself :)
When I noticed that I was excited for events or vacations because of the pictures I could post, that's when I knew I needed to step back. I pray that I can find more women irl that think like this.
yeah same, when i went on a vacation my only priority for taking photos was that they'd be good enough for instagram. i decided to stop that and now my photo album is a much cleaner space without the million copies of each photo.
One thing for me that I noticed is that a lot of people around me will not reach out to unless I have social media which makes me sad. It’s not a FOMO but Ig i just need a better community around me Edit: what’s crazy is how when I commented this I felt so alone but to see other ppl feel the same makes me hopeful that we’ll find our peoples! I just joined a discord for anime/ other interests so hopefully I’ll make more friends.
yup...I experience that too. I find myself reaching out to people first wayyy more often these days too. I try not to let it make me feel too unwanted but instead just understand that I'm a bit of an outlier and it's probably much less convenient to reach out to me now. But we'll find our communities though, hang in there!
Well this is the thing.. if they can't make an effort in your real life, were they worth it anyway? For me, I really didn't miss any of those people. Nor did I beg them to stay in contact. I value real life, they value a fake life, we don't mix. Anyone that was a close friend or family member, is now more involved in my real life and so am I. Community comes in so many shapes and sizes and I repeat this to everyone til I'm blue in the face! Life changes when you start living in reality 247. It's not as glam, or shiny, or easy, but the connections are authentic, valuable and reliable. You end up talking to people you wouldn't have spoken to if you'd been caught up in social media w your nose in your phone. For me I ended up building great relationships with all of my neighbours...which Is something I've never done in 6 years of living alone. I'm autistic, I'm an avoider, didn't think I'd ever be the type to stop and chat to each neighbour, or to a person walking their dog, or to an old man out for his daily trip to the shop. Now I am, and it genuinely does bring me joy. Which Is rare for me with socialising. I had to step back hugely from social media and societal norms in general, to access the place I'm in now. I feel so free. You really can delete the app and never care about it again, we believe we need it, but honestly you'll feel relief. You think you'll get fomo, but you see over and over that you are not missing out on anything! It's a trick, it gets us hooked and detached. Don't be afraid to lose some people in order to gain everything you deserve to thrive in this life. It's a tiny tiny sacrifice in the grand scheme of things. You are the most important person in your life. ❤
me too im off for like a lil more than a year now n its great i too have been heavy on yt since.. which i am working on to reduce currently so overall its great tho sometimes i dont understand the context of some memes my friends show me.😅😅
THIS!! RUclips, Reddit, Quora, and Pinterest are literally my go to’s (as well as random news articles). I just wish there was some way to tap into the locality of my interest on these platform and just find new people who have similar perspectives to me.
You’re just changing one social platform for another you’re not really off but I get it. Once I’m off I end up binging RUclips or trying to find connection on other sites but I also think it defeats the purpose of trying to make those connections in rl.
a really good tips I suggest for all you guys: say no with youtube on smartphone, just use youtube on pc/computer, then set your youtube page become old youtube layout more than 10 years ago, it works really well.
If you go into settings > general > video playback and turn it off, then click "not interested" on all the first available yt shorts on the your feed before restarting the app, it'll get them off your home feed :)
there is a chrome/firefox extension on the laptop! but for mobile you can only click "not interested" (it'll go away for 30 days so you just have to keep clicking it)
When you mentioned the “downloaded personality” that really resonated with me, and not even with social media but with TV. I’m a thirty year old who grew up on a steady, constant diet of Nickelodeon and Disney Channel. My husband (who didn’t grow up with cable TV and spent a lot of time outdoors with his siblings) often comments on how so many of us millennials who grew up in the city or suburbs and watched lots of TV have an extremely similar, odd/quirky sense of humor/personality that is very reminiscent of the outlandish characters of the shows I used to watch. I never realized until he said it, and now I see it everywhere 🤯 just goes to show how much mass-produced, mass-consumed media (whether social or otherwise) has the ability to literally influence the personality of an entire generation. I also don’t use social media but the bits and pieces I’ve seen of Tik Tok kind of freak me out - I notice the gen Zs I work with using the same body language, hand motions, and even speech cadence as social media influencers. It’s crazy. We need to be careful with what we consume.
That’s so true, like I first noticed it the slightly older generation than me ( I was born 94), I didn’t understand why older people always loved the same songs the same movies, had similar sense of humor etc, but as I got older I realized it’s because all of them had a similar experience and consumed the same content because it was the only available thing back then And I felt it with the way I grew up, how people who used to watch the same cartoons and shows when they were younger tend to have the same sense of humor/ personality And it’s the same with gen z and social media But I think something that’s new with the the recent generations is that with the internet lots of people have easy access to more niche content resulting in vastly different experiences using social media Like back in the days everyone had to watch what was on the tv or you had to buy or rent from the stores but now 2 people could be using TikTok but one of them is watching trends and influencer and the other is watching a more niche content like pet lizard care making the outcome of using it so different Something else to note that how the experience change from country to country or from culture to culture
@@noornamu6677 I recently heard a term for this monoculture... With the way social media/entertainment is now more diverse and room for many niches we don't have a monoculture anymore. Some of that I miss as it brings a sense of camaraderie. But that point about the personalities is interesting. What would I have been like if I wasn't exposed to those things, but then I can go down the rabbit hole of who I would be if I wasn't exposed to my parents, siblings etc. nature vs nurture basically.
As a Millennial (born in ‘95) i feel like Gen Z was never given a fighting chance to have a healthy relationship with social media. I know many people my age are affected by it, but to a far lesser extent than y’all. I can’t even imagine where my mental health would be if Tiktok existed when i was in high school. It terrifies me for the future generations who don’t know that social media is just designed and curated to keep us glued to our screens for as long as possible. Congrats to you on 3 years clean 🥳🎉
95 here, totally agree. Being right on the cusp of Gen Z and Millennial is like having a bird’s eye view of the mental health crisis in those just a few years, or even a year, younger than me. I deleted all of my social media accounts in early 2017 and haven’t looked back. Obviously still on RUclips but mostly to watch Game Grumps.
i (2002) but my sister (1992) is obsessed with tiktok and facebook and i have neither of those things i think it just depends on the specific person not if they are millennial or not. i tend to use my phone more for games and watching content like vidoes and movies and messages with friends. my sister is always on tiktok and sending me links to watch vidoes and i’m like meh. i could do without but she loves to post her life up on facebook with everything that she does it’s wild. i did get tiktok when i was like a senior in highscool so 2020 but i deleted it cus it was BORING and took up storage i didn’t need it. i used snapchat between maybe 2016-2019 but got tired of it so i deleted it. i’ve had instagram though since i was like 15? till now at the age of 22 and honestly it’s the only social media app i need i used twitter for a while but delete it all the time i’ll check stuff and keep updated on things and then when i haven’t used it in a while i delete it. cus i can always log back in if i wanted to.
Isn’t it so weird no one remembers all the videos and posts they just spent hours scrolling on. And if this is your daily ritual and spent years doing this you just have a block in your memory of how you have spent those years. Wild.
your comment has singlehandedly convinced me to be much more aware of my doomscrolling habit. bc damn, i never thought of it that way and i dont wanna look back on my 20s and just not remember how i spent my pastimes
I am a millennial and stopped using social media at the beginning of this year! I feel more present, calmer, and have spent more time on my hobbies on my days off. My days off consist of cooking, reading, crocheting, cross stitching, diamond painting, coloring, gaming, spending time with my dog and family and much more. I only planned to take a month break, but now I’m not sure if or when I’ll go back. As Rapunzel once said “and at last I see the light, and it’s like the fog has lifted” ✨I feel less foggy, less anxious, and overall happier!
stoppit, i love all those things AND Rapunzel!!! What kinf of games do you like?! I'm thinking of maybe recording some for the channel but i'm more of a cozy gamer
@Jay-xj5yt let me clarify: tiktok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. I listen to RUclips in the background while I do other things. I would get stuck doom scrolling on tiktok or Instagram shorts for hours. I hated that feeling. RUclips is a more positive platform in choosing what I want to consume. It’s fine if RUclips is considered social media, but I can still be proud of myself for cutting down on my social media consumption💛
ive been off social media for 4/5 years. i still keep up a little bit by using youtube. but whats changed is nobody reaches out & they dont really take the time to get to know you because they think they knew you through social media. ive aslo become alot more intelligent since then. its so easy to think about things and understand them. i feel present.
100% agree to feeling the lack of communication from those you felt were close AND also becoming more intelligent. I’ve gotten better at my job, school, and my creative endeavors.
I'm also a Gen-Z whose gotten tired of feeling like an addict. People still deny that it's not addiction but IT IS. It impeded a lot of aspects in my life and I hated how I grew up with social media, making me have someone else's personality instead of my authentic self since I needed to fit in and keep up with the trends. I've been on and off social media for 2 years now and I also get these urges from time to time to go back that's why I stay for a while then disappear for months again. But, it's so hard to completely quit it to be honest. There's that part of your brain that just tells you to be back on it, more of a curiosity and it has really tricked me into a downward spiral. It's like cigarettes but a lot harder to quit from since it's socially acceptable and almost everyone's lives revolve around it. They'll look at you silly if you'll tell them you don't have social media. Thank you for this video because something clicked in my brain. I realized that I'm sooo tired of going back and forth. I
wow thank you so much for your comment. I totally get everything you're saying. Funny how normal and socially acceptable a lot of unhealthy things can be.
Same, snip snap snip snap. But you can't just snap because it feels like it is a rule to have social media. If you are not posting anything that means you are either depressed, insecure and an old man who hates in social media. People either pity me or expect me to see successful because I don't use it.
Update: I am in a long distance relationship and using my phone and other devices felt more intentional rather than wasteful. I barely use my social medias except when my lover sends me reels or tiktoks.
I absolutely LOVE seeing the younger generation kicking this habit. But it's not just social media, it's the way our brains are addicted to checking for something new- when I gave up social media I switched to checking the news all the time, or even my bank account, lol. It's so important to not replace the habit with compulsively checking other apps! Keep up the great work!
😂 I truly don’t know what we should do. Sometimes I would how I got through the day in day 2003 . I mean there was the radio but… and I also wasn’t excessively watching tv . I don’t know lol 🤷🏽♀️
This is me, I have no worries anymore about posting or replying or missing out. I wasn't missing out on any drama and my mental health has changed for a better me. ✌️ 💛
@Jay-xj5yt Why do you feel the need to comment that under EVERY comment. 😂 are you triggered? Let me try to explain. People delete almost all social media apps and all you can criticize is that they are still on here commenting? Jeez... at least they try to change their social media addiction behavior. For most people RUclips feels different. You choose to watch a few videos which are mostly longer videos (which is better for the brain) instead of scrolling for hours on tik tok or Instagram. Also the issue for most people is the posting and the dopamine kick you get from getting likes and comments under your post. Just going to cute places so you can post about it. Most people watch on RUclips for entertainment purposes, just like they would watch a movie on Netflix. It's not about posting your vacation pictures and stuff. And commenting doesn't give you the same dopamine kick. So if you INSIST...YES technically RUclips is a form of social media or IS social media (before you come @ me) but for most people it's not a big issue like Instagram or tik tok... My god 😂
After you delete social media you start seeing how bad it is for other people as well-at least in my experience. I remember I was sitting in class and my friend was doing her assignment. In one hand she had her phone propped up with TikTok and in the other she typed on her laptop. She wasn’t even looking at the TikTok, just scrolling randomly. It kinda made me sit there like wow. Is that what I was like????
Ive been off social media for nearly a year now. I realized that staying at home all day-no school, no work- was horrible. It was the source of my unhappiness, stress, and feeling as though I had no time in my life. It's crazy how much time I wasted on my phone doing useless mindless tasks that I hated. Deleting social media also pushed me to leave the house and socialize and im so so so much happier for it
Being off social media feels good. It’s nice to focus on the moments and not live them through a screen. I wish I had friends that felt similarly. It really does change your outlook on life.
LITERALLY NOT HAVING SOCIAL MEDIA MAKES ME FEEL SO DISTANT FROM PPL!! This one person on my campus let me borrow their lotion and then instead of a “hi what’s your name?” I was immedifialy asked about my Instagram handle….i said “no I don’t have social media” and they just said “oh” and continued on with their scrolling. I was BAFFLED. Another time I was hanging out with this classmate and she said some tiktok term and I was just like “ummm idk that hahahaha” and I just smiled and it was the most awkward moment but luckily I was able to make a joke abt it and continue on…but literally it’s two different languages and planes a whole diff culture it’s like culture shock. Crazy crazy.
HAHAHA WHY IS THAT INTERACTION SO FUNNY TO ME lolol so many people now a days don't know how to act sometimes I swear lololol hi what's your ig handle = hi what's your name lol
being off on social media make you realize that the outside life is better than scrolling 8 to 10 hours a day, it might be lonely for sometime but at least you have the chance to really embracing the moments in the outside world.
Getting off Social media was so healing for me. i've only done it for about 2-3 months now, but i dont see myself ever downloading it again. I've been dedicating my time to new hobbies and its just so refreshing.
@user-ho3oe2qi6t I had been trying to get off instagram for months before. I kept putting timers, of like one hour a day use, that I would always go over and add time to. And it just slowly made me realize how much of my life I was wasting watching things I didn't actually care about.
I want to but I get so bored. I have a lot of free time.. I have hobbies but I only feel like doing them for so long daily.. yk? What else do you do to occupy your time when obviously not working or hobbies lol ?
@@madibtw8814 I've started dedicating my time to writing. i have a book series i want to write and its impossible to get anything completed when im just doom scrolling. In addition to that I read, crochet, do puzzles, go thrifting and paint. My dog also takes up alot of my time. Also allowing yourself to be bored is amazing. In the beginning for me it wasn't so much "bordem" but the lack of stimulation for my brain. After about two weeks i was finally not constantly seeking out the quick dopamine hits social media gave me. it was hard, and i was still checking my phone to look at instagram, but with it uninstalled it gave me enough delay to realize i actually didn't want to scroll and fill my mind with random things. That was the other thing. i asked myself, do i want to curate the things i get to see in my everyday life, or be force fed it through an algorithm? I felt like everything i saw and felt was being guided by outside sources and not myself. Now, i choose what i want to see and feel. I don't have drastic mood swings - from seeing a cute puppy video that makes me laugh to a political video that makes me feel like the world is ending. But, at the end of the day, if scrolling on your phone is truly fulfilling for you, then go for it. I know there are ways to curate a social media that offers positivity, i just wasn't capable of maintaining that.
@@madibtw8814 Actually, being bored is extremely important for our brains. It improves creativity and and we can organize our thoughts better. I'm not quite good at explaining this, if you're interested, you should research it. It's kinda interesting.
I love these kinds of honest videos. No crazy editing or anything to keep you engaged, just a cozy talk! It's honestly the most authentic type of video, and the most enjoyable for me! Thank you for talking abt something so interesting, I really savored it
As an older gen Z (97) I am old enough to remember a small sliver of life when social media could only be accessed on a computer at home and phones were just flip phones and everything felt so balanced before smartphones took over and I started spending 10 hours just scrolling away every day. It motivated me to return to that simpler time so I purged most of my socials (except YT) and have never felt happier.
I'm from 1993 here and I can remember we didn't have wifi at home, just limited internet stick so we went to the library (15 mins walk) to use our socials for an hour daily XD
Deleted social media a little over a year ago. It’s been an adjustment honestly. I do feel fomo. But I felt way too immersed in it. Though my life feels more “mundane” now… it feels like I’m living in real life and not in a digital illusion. It’s hard to articulate. And it’s hard that it’s so normalized. It’s almost expected of you to post your life online for other people to see.
A digital illusion is such a good way to put it. I feel very similarly bc I’ve always struggled with coming on and off of social media. Like I get bad FMO cause I still don’t feel in the “loop” (but what is really the loop, u know?). Anyways I’m deleting my social media for the summer to focus on my passions and spend time w family and work. Read more books and spend more time in nature. I really hope deleting it will be for the better. I’m tired of living in a digital illusion where most people are fake and mean💔
@@Dede-iv6ieFOMO is a shorter name for Fear Of Missing Out. Fear of Missing Out is when you’re afraid to fall behind on what’s trendy with friends and culture, so you stay online frequently to try and keep up, even when you’re tired or need to be doing other things.
I recently stopped using socials, too. My career goals have always been centered around social media, and being an influencer. I was so afraid of being mediocre. I built my personality around popularity so I was constantly seeking social validation. It become so toxic that I lost who I really was-I was an extremely anxious/angry person. My life was an endless loop of doom-scrolling, FOMO, and self destruction. I’ve only been off for a few months but the world seems brighter, the air smells fresher, and the birds chirp a little louder. I can finally think for myself. I “play outside” regularly, i’m reading again, doing art again-heck, I’ve even started a puzzle. Maybe I’ll return one day…but learning to be bored has been the most useful tool in my personal growth. I do find it isolating, but I have found there is so much comfort, and beauty, enjoying the simplicities of life.
It might sound surprising but I’m so thankful that my parents didn’t allow me to have social media until I was 18 (last year). I feel like I got the best childhood I could’ve had and spent lots of time with my family and the neighborhood friends
WOW they didn't allow you?! That's so crazy but i'm so glad you view that as a good thing and aren't mad at them for it lol. Your parents trained you to be really cool i bet ;)
@@pattelino9466 I had a friend in high school like that, she was a child who wasn't defiant and followed rules. She wasn't allowed to have social media at all until Christmas our sophomore or junior year when it was allowed as a present. She'd want to see what we would post on snapchat and such, but she didn't seem that bothered by not being able to have it on her phone. And she was only allowed to have snapchat. I think she made her instagram and Facebook after we graduated from high school. Her mom was cool though, she didn't seem like the type who was overbearing about no social media. She even had a bedtime around 8 or 9pm the entire time in high school, but she did not seem bothered by it one bit lol
I have gone without instagram for a year- year 1/2 and I feel so clear. I found Christ in November and my only focus now is my salvation! I have time to draw more, cook more, read more, study more rather than mindlessly scrolling. I applaud you and every other person ditching that false reality! ❤
That’s amazing!! Many of us are on that same boat, it takes a whole new meaning when you realize that this is also dying to ourselves to follow Him! May God bless you and enjoy the journey to meet Him everyday deeper than the day before
I posted a solo comment, but your heart is in the right place, though I am 42, I support Gen-Z, the future greatly depends on you, what I stated in my comment have me as an outcast but I am fine with it, it might be too late for me but not you, again in relation to what I do I saw the beginning of narratives that actually dates back to agenda going back to the 90's can still be found online, 900+ pages, I do not have kids and made that choice in my late 20's, all predicated on this. I am Christian also, but I am not American, nor do I mingle with people, bottom-line things will get stranger, your generation is far more important than you think. I don't use social media, I do use YT but far less, I cannot say what I want to say, but the proverbial endgame? This is it, the final shoe will drop. Whatever the case, go with God, this is critical. I know this sounds somber, but now is no time for deception, now is no time at all.
Yay! I really do think now social media is just not good for everyone. I’ve been hearing many people say that when they were on social media all the time just endlessly scrolling, they’re more irritated for no reason, anxious, and forgetful. And I personally agree from experience. One thing I also notice is that it makes people super lazy. It’s almost like there’s something in the back of their mind saying “why bother even do that ( like a hobby or smth) when I can just scroll?” And with a lot of people I know, they lose themselves in the process of scrolling. They don’t know who they are anymore because of social media. In general, I feel like social media has a lot more cons than pros and it affects a lot of people so negatively especially to the people who are on it all the time. Social media is just like a bunch of unnecessary noise that distracts people from what God really wants them to be.
i quit social media back in July 2020. it was something that i i wanted to do for a month, then that month became three months, six months, soon it was a year… maybe log in my laptop once or twice to show that i was active but other than that, i haven’t looked back. i am so glad that i spent my early 20s without any social media besides pinterest and yt are basically the only apps that i use. i never felt so free after deleting all the apps on my phone. i feel like i learned self-awareness in my surroundings and actually look what’s around me instead of being glued on my phone all the time. I’ll be honest sometimes my friends forget that i don’t have social media anymore and send stuff on my dms and i have to remind them that i don’t have social media. i am glad that i am not the only one who is doing this
There are some mods out there that remove shorts, I'm currently typing on one. They're fucking great, they brought back the RUclips I used to love. I choose what to watch without spiralling down a doom scroll mess without noticing.
"sometimes i feel the need to be attuned with the rest of the world, but being attuned with myself...i can live with that." this might be the line that convinced me to go off the instagrid again ❣️
Glad I was born in the early 90’s so I know how life was before social media. Feel sorry for those who grow up with it. I felt it was time to delete social media and reclaim my life. I feel liberated.
Gen Z girl in a very similar situation here 🤚🏻 I totally agree with what you said! And I'm also looking for people who think and want to live the same way (without or with less social media). I'm so happy to find other people with the same thoughts ^⩌^ Peace ☮✌🏻🍃
I deleted my social media this past December. I wanted to be more in the present and making genuine connections, so far it’s been lonely since no one reaches out. I value those that I get to interact with in person.
you are your videos are so cute and comfy!! I've been 7 years clean from social media and 6 months clean from having a smart phone- now i have a laptop for bills, email, youtube and a flip phone for texts/calls and im sooooooo much happier and free feeling from making those switches :))))
I haven't really noticed anyone in public taking notice since not having the smart phone I'm not really ever on my phone if I'm out and about, but my friends and family have really gotten a kick out of it, mostly positive reactions, some family members like to poke fun but it makes me laugh regardless. I absolutely love it, I found that it just helped me simplify my life so much and I don't feel glued to a device for the first time in 8 years.. I definitely recommend making the switch if it's possible for you!@@MoonbeamsWorld
@@MoonbeamsWorld sorry for delay I thought I replied to this already, but I really haven't received anything other than positive remarks on having one, occasionally there may be a joke made about it but I absolutely love it, it was just the change I needed to simplify my life :)
@@fykafunk I ordered mine through straight talk wireless online when I had my pre-paid phone plan with them, the phone was only $30. The best decision I’ve ever made is disappearance and discovery… As you mentioned, you are almost forced into this wave of being present in the real world. Being able to socialize and actually interact with existence is so beautiful. I was very hyper fixated on feeling alone with leaving school, deleting socials, changing my name, blocking out everything toxic from people to my lifestyle. Everything and anything to start viewing the world as how it was initially meant for us. It’s been about a year now and I’ve never felt better… I’m grateful for your presence and dedication to share how you feel. Thank you 🕉️💕
Yes I’m with this 100%. I microdose my social media usage & I haven’t been happier. Major portions of the internet are toxic & the good parts inseparable from the bad. I got tired of the deterioration of my mental health via social media. Life without the pixels is the best life.
i deleted everything a couple weeks ago but redownloaded tiktok because i did find some valuable niches , strangely enough. i found myself on youtube shorts, which is so frustrating that every app added a short form interface, like you mentioned. it is still a struggle for me, and something i am on the beginning of the journey of. i do wish communication was text messaged based, for example i started a new job and the group chat is on snapchat. i agree that we are perhaps past the line of no return. admire you for your journey, and i think any sense of isolation is worth it for the authenticity you find within yourself
Yeah so strange how there are so many ways to connect yet this is arguably the loneliest generation. I wish you the best of luck in finding your own balance!
Keep being true to yourself, I’ve lived my life true to myself at 40 year old. I’ve always done what I think is right rather than what all the people my age group are doing. It’s been hard but it has payed off. My advice is, fit in when you need to and blend in with different people, but be true to yourself at the same time. You will at times feel left out but over time you will become more confident within yourself, and as you age and see the problems people your age are having because for example they over did social media, you’ll be glad. You will see you made the right decisions and your peers will compliment you and your outlook on life as they do me, later on. You will feel alone being different but let it pass, it’s normal, I still get it sometimes. It’s usually ourselves that feel way more different then they think that of us. But if you want a great life you need to step outside the box. Just remember that.
no social media girly here too!! i related so much to your sentiment about extended family especially. i always thought it was a strange feeling, like being out of the loop. this makes sense now that we're older and have our own lives but i still get sad about it.
Do you have any advice for staying off for so long but constantly being around people who have it and judge you for not having it. I really want to do this. Just need some advice:)
@@Riliesyoutube I find the more I embraced it and am not ashamed of it, the more people seem to not care as much. A lot of my friends would guilt trip me into saying they can’t send me stuff anymore but a lot of feeling weird about it was in my own head
@@MoonbeamsWorld I’m really not ashamed of it. I just have a hard time because at my work everyone sits on there phone at breaks or lunch. I guess that’s the main thing is when personal people try and guilt trip me
You're so inspiring. I'm sick of rotting my brain and not giving more attention to my creative projects. Thanks for posting this. We can heal from this.
I left social media around the same time and I agree on so many points. It is MUCH harder to make connections since we are the anomaly and finding like minded people is definitely not easy. One thing is though it is so peaceful. The amount of peace I experience on a day to day exploring myself and my hobbies rather than being in other peoples business feels so right, and knowing that the people that truly want to make an effort to see or spend time with me will because I am not so easily accessible. Good to know more people like me are out there!
Personally, I have a love-hate relationship with social media. Had it when I was younger and it destroyed my self esteem. Now I'm in my late teens and love to log on occasionally to see what people are up to. I have rules for myself such as: never open up the comment section while scrolling through reels and consciously analyzing whether I am okay with the content on my screen. It has really helped me to create a balance. I also do not let Instagram save my password and log on/log off every single time so that it becomes an active task rather than a passive one. I feel like with the control I have now, my life doesn't revolve around social media but I have not let go of it completely since I still find lots of artistic inspiration there.
Love love love what you said about “downloading personalities.” I find myself thinking independently and even though my ideas aren’t crazy or radical, I find that a majority of people are thinking the same way and if I ask questions or say anything different than the “norm” right now, people have a hard time and either don’t know what to say or they get judgmental and jump to conclusions. The people who gather and judge “group think” are often the ones that are group thinking.
It’s been a month since I deleted all my socials and it’s all cause of your video. I actually go out and live life, read, care more for my dogs and going on longer walks with them, spending a lot more time with family… it’s just been a blast! Thank you so much💕 can’t wait for your next videos!
Thanks for sharing!!! I’m really glad I found your video. I’m on the tail end of being a millennial and I’m a mom in my 20s. The thing that no one tells you about being a young mom in this day and age, is that social media will actually get you THAT much more addicted to it....when I was young adult it would take a lot of willpower, but it was totally doable to just disconnect from the internet and do a cleanse for a year. Fast forward to being a mom, your in such a vulnerable state and dying to make connections that are relatable for your mental health, and to just see content that’s relatable to your situation. The motherhood content on social media is a WHOLE thing. It’s massive. Now I’m trying to take steps back again but now it’s even harder than before because I’ve relied heavily on the internet to fill my cup in a way. 😅I hope any young people reading this comment understand that you should try to start distancing yourself now before you potentially enter such a vulnerable stage in your life and then your hooked on it completely like I am. Great video! New subscriber 😊
wow thank you so much! That is crazy to hear and makes so much sense. I can see how isolating being a mother can be when you put it like that. And YES i see soooo much motherhood content myself. I hope you can find that balance and your little village for you and your kiddos
I've been distant from social media for quite some time now also! Another good thing to do with those struggling to delete the app, is to do a social media clean up! Delete people, pages or even celebrities who add no value to you. That was one of the best things I did. I get to see more things that uplift me and create a positive space.
Social media saps my time and Im addicted to it. However, I never feel sad after being on social media, the stuff is always happy. (The exception is TikTok. It is the only one that recommends sad or scary stuff to me)
id 100% choose watching this instead of doom scrolling, it feels validating having someone share similar opinions and experiences, I have started to use less social media over the past years and it just feels like a breath of fresh air. Def subscribing i love this community
Thank you so much for making this video! I’m 19 with no social media, and I often feel so alone in this decision. Watching this video made me feel less alone and realize there’s other people like me out there!
It was also really interesting to me that when I’d go for longer breaks off social media, I started to notice a pattern with when I’d want to download instagram again, usually in the evening when I felt lonely and missed having close friends, so learning that was huge
Old woman here (33 yo) and i was thinking that one other factor in deeply connecting with fewer people than you used to could be due to aging. I’ve definitely found it tough as I get older how people reach out less, just stay home with their partner, etc. BUT the positive side of that is that as you age you realize who you really are. So when you do find a new friend every few years, they’re a BEST friend. Thanks for the video!
Gratitude for sharing had to quit alcohol 10 years ago , along with Facebook. It's been a few years without Twitter. No Instagram. No snapchat and No Tik Tok.
I quit social media 4 years ago and it's the best decision I've ever made. I'm so much more motivated to do actual activities instead of just sit and scroll all day
i always feel more connected to my interests, beliefs, creativity and being as a whole during my constant long social media breaks. not having social media has not cured the deeper shit lol but it has been a helping hand in my life journey because i’m able to be more intentional with my life. my boyfriend and i quit together and it has been revolutionary having real support and understanding from a person that genuinely gets it. not to mention, spending time together is so quality because neither of us are distracted and/or addicted to our phones. thank you for posting about your journey with it, it’s inspiring me to stop taking my 8 month-1.5 year breaks and just be done all together (we’ll see haha). lastly, really felt you on the whole debating getting back on social media to promote what you are sharing on youtube because i battled with the same thoughts! but after thinking about it for a while, i decided not to and i’m actually so excited to connect with people via youtube solely because they just came across my content. it’s giving it was meant to be and i love that! (not to say anything is wrong with promoting)
Wow thank you for sharing all that ❤️ that’s so cool that you have someone so close to you who shares those feelings because I can attest that is so so helpful in my relationship for the same reasons! Your comment is giving me meant to be too ☺️🫶
i guess the sacrifice of not having social media is that you’re the one who’s going to have to reach out to others. We’re a super fast paced society that likes easy and accessible things so not having social media gives people the illusion that you aren’t accessible. I’ve deleted my socials for a while now, feel great and I still go out as much as I did when I had it, but that’s because i actively do the effort to reach out and keep the ties that are meaningful to me. Good luck to everyone on their journey
I get what you mean about everyone’s on their phones. You can go out with friends and you try to avoid looking at your phone to be polite and devote your time to them but then they’ll just be on their phone half the time. It’s easy to feel alone even with friends in that way.
i know its not a lot but ive deleted socials for about a week now and its so great, for the most part ive completely forgotten about it. there are just some moments when i think "ooh take a picture of this and post it, oh wait i cant" or subtle images of social media popping up in my mind like "i wonder how (friend) is doing, lets watch her story".
It's so comforting to see other people (especially other women) who are not on social media. I've been on and off for several years, but the past year I've really reduced my social media usage to a zero and it feels so freeing in a way, but kind of lonely sometimes. I don't really have any friends around me who don't use social media so it can get a bit isolating to be the only one. Thanks for making this video!
I was actually just thinking about this today. Like what sorts of small business don't require a sort of social media type exposure and advertising. Honestly in this situation it might just be best to adapt with what works since social media can be used for great things like that but I imagine it must be so hard. Let me know how that goes for you!!
@MoonBeamsWorld I realized only a few of my clients were co.ing from social media, so I set up the page but am not active on it because it takes up too much time. I am lucky not to be the sole breadwinner because I would feel more pressure to be posting and doing everything possible.
I love my field which is marketing, but it’s hard enough out here to have ALL the skills that are required. Not being able to post on social media, keep up with trends and updates, monitor competitors, and build/maintain a “community” of consumers for the brand, then good luck. I always say I wish I could just unplug, but idk if it will be possible until I can reach financial stability enough to support my family and go do my own thing or have my significant other financially support us. But as you mentioned, it’s so hard to get a leg up without social media.
im 19 & i've been on & off of social media for almost 2 years now. i think the only reason why i haven't gotten rid of it completely is because my high school friends r on it & intagram feels like the only way i can keep in touch with them & know whats going on in their lives. but i also hate myself after doom scrolling. i really want to delete everything but i have this crippling fear that i would be missing out on everything. i completely understand why u deleted social media honestly i felt so seen watching u talk about it. it was therapeutic in a way. loved the vid 💗
thank you so much for your comment 💗I totally know that feeling and I did that for a while too, just keeping insta for being "normal" but not really using it too much. You'll find your balance!
Social media is cancer. Its a big part of the downfall of society. I feel for you guys, with so much social anxiety and depression, you guys will never know how good high school was before social media, how good it was to go to an event without everyone with a phone in their hand recording. How good it was to have your own music, own culture and identity. Its funny you guys dress like us in the 90s :) I dont want to be a doomer but civilization definitely peaked
honestly doomer, i'm on a mission to also not be in a doomer mindset myself lolol that's why I created this channel! Thank you so much for your comment it helps a lot :) I also will infact KEEP rocking the 90s hehe!
still makes me wonder how i ever went alone to skate nights back in school when i was 6 lmao im 34 now. feels like i made it up or dreamed it but it happened! it was like 4 or 5 pm till 8 or 9 pm on fridays or sats and id go alone, no friends there or anything and skate the whole time with no damn issues then just wait for dad inside the glass doors to come pick me up. i can't even use a phone now lol. i blame my shyness ive always had though, its really crippling when it comes to having to deal with people. people tell me to speak up cuz they cant hear me and then i do and then it sounds like im screaming and then i get told that and i just sigh and stop talking and just want to cry.
@@wonyshearts No it is not. Cancer kills and it spreads, so does social media. There is a similarity, it’s not disrespectful. Also are you someone with cancer?
I’m going to guess you don’t, I think it’s disrespectful to speak for a group of people, do they not have a mind of their own, their own opinions. Are you in the wrong, because I said you are?
Love this for you!! I got off instagram too. I would find myself feeling so ugly compared to the women I see on there. But it’s not real!! If I were to walk past one of those “influencers” I’m sure I would barely recognize them. I also love to see people’s beauty in person, their texture, the freckles & expression lines. It’s beautiful & human 😊
i have done many thing that have changed my life by far one of the most powerful was deleting social media , back in the day distraction was very normal as soon as i deleted social media is like i have no more excuses/ distractionsto figure out the world around me
Sis same! I delete social media decade ago and still not having for personal issue. And im glad that you did too! It's a blessing for those people who can delete social media for their mental health issues.
A lot of your points are why I think curating your social medias' feeds to things you WANT to see is so important. Anytime I get on tiktok or instagram or twitter, whatever it is, all I see are videos relating to fantasy. Books, people dressing up as lil fairies, armor and sword stuff, renfaires, etc. It's all about making your feeds show you what you want to see.
17:00 this part hits hard! I noticed that too everytime I stepped away from socials. I just started to develop my own personal thinking and when you come back it doesn't click with the flow that everybody is following.
As an older gen-Z I have been mostly absent on social media for the last 5 years, I post once in a blue moon, like when I graduated, or when I had a cute photo in a really nice place in a special day. I feel less stressed and anxious due to the privacy I allowed myself to have.
I needed to hear this. I was very happy when I was off of social media but I got back on it for my business and then it lead to more app downloads and it’s just this spiraling thing… it’s so true though we find our true people off of social media. Not living this “fake” life online. I just always find myself in such a bad relationship with social media, then sit here and wonder why I feel sad or stuck. It’s just so different. You got my subscription, thanks!
It’s interesting listening to you talk because you sound like your own person if that makes sense? Like you have your own unique intonation, pattern of voice/speech etc. Most gen z’s all speak exactly the same idk how to explain it. They all have the influencer voice. Even the way you recorded your video was not “trendy”. You have a personality. I hope one day this can be me too!
Social media irritates me so much and I want to delete sooo bad but it’s hard! Deleting TikTok is easy, but deleting instagram in uni is difficult, since lots of interactions happen on there.
@@MoonbeamsWorld it’s hugeee still, all of my student organizations use it for communication and I’m like rahhh let me go incognito plsss. But yeah when I graduate, I’m going on a cleanse for sure
I have it in my computer, I think thats a good way. I have a small business and If I want to sell, I cant give up every platform of social media, but I dont want it to control me either. So I have it in my computer, but is still a change because you dont feel the need to watch it every minute, and you cant carry your computer everywhere you go either, so I think thats a good option
7:46 I started my no-social media journey because of a friend too. He’s never had any social media, and that was so different to me that I always admired him so much that he actually “influenced” me in that way
I love this video 🥲 It's so honest. Im mostly off social media for about a year, i go on about once a month to see what my friends have posted etc. And i find that after 5-10 minutes... im bored 😂 I used to spend HOURS on instagram and now i can last about 10 minutes because i recognize everything is an ad and add nothing to my life. Loving moving away and living real life, having real experiences for ME 🥰 Thanks Girlie xo
'Everything is an ad' This is so true. When I first joined social media it was to be able to see what friends and family are up to (and funny cay vids lol). Now it's just advertisement vultures picking apart the worst versions of myself for a quick buck. It's sickening.
Deleting TikTok changed my life. It’s all so make believe and it’s such a mental health suck! I deleted Instagram for a few weeks and now I periodically sign in on it, cuz I like to keep tabs some times on my friends and stuff. But in general it opened up my mind to so many beautiful ways to spend my time and such peace!
I can confidently say that I never been more fulfilled and happy after I quit social media! It was like taking a bunch of blocks of my shoulders, now I have a lot time to spend with family and friends! I never been happier
I had a social media obsession , since February 2024 I do not have it at all and feel better. I really enjoy just living my little life and do not know what others do.
Loved this and definitely needed this video. The addiction is real and I’ve done my time off social media for about 9 months in 2021. Some of my fondest memories of myself were during that era because I could really hone in to who I was and what I valued. In many other aspects I was super lonely and did find it hard to connect with others especially since I was overseas at the time! Now that I’m in a better place I want to attempt to do it for a good while again! Thanks for putting this out into the universe.
This past week I went back home for a week to celebrate a quince y mi mama’s cumpleaños, to say the least I felt distant in a way. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy their company but like you said, that connection was really not as strong as it used to be. I invited a bunch of friends to go out to dinner and have ice cream, I was genuinely excited about the outing because I planned it out for awhile. What I expected to be a good time of conversation turned out to be a Doom Scrolling event whenever we sat down just to chill. I’m glad this video popped up, I’m glad there’s others that feel the exact same way.
I’m 77 and so admire how thoughtful and articulate you are. The idea that there’s virtual programming of all who find themselves living on and for their phones seems so spot on. Good for you!
I feel like she's right, tictoc did change everything. I had Instagram in highschool and college and it wasn't as addicting until tictoc came out, and then followed reels on Instagram and shorts on RUclips. And I feel like that style of quick short videos is more addictive and changes our brains. I feel dumber sometimes 😂 and I have a lower attention span.
I work in digital media for work & in a work setting fine, good for advertising and using my creative skills differently - but I despise it for actual socializing in my personal life. I love face to face convos, a good phone call and long form videos on YT! When I told a woman I met at any event that I don't have LinkedIn, she said I was a rebel lol. I think we forget that face to face connection is still top tier. I applaud you!
I deleted instagram and facebook a week ago, meta makes me sick. as well as tiktok .. but you articulated every emotion and all of my doubts perfectly. Its nice to know I don’t feel alone in the ups n downs of social media. I really needed to hear this thank you! :)
ive been off social media for abt a month now i can say its definitely helping me be more productive with my time and cherish it more, unfortunately i have noticed the lack of reaching out from friends has drastically dropped and i just think of wanting to connect with people organically that i meet out but shaking the social anxiety is hard but its surely going to change as i keep of social media. congrats on 3 years!!! 🎉🎉
This is the most important social conversation right now. I think what you said about ✨being in tune with our own beat instead of the world✨ is what people are missing these days. People aren't in connection with themselves and i think it's a huge contributor to why we all feel like shit. Please keep this conversation going, it is so so so important to talk about.
it's interesting how everyone is a bit different when it comes to social media. As for me I'm 31 and I didn't get my first phone until I was 25 which was by choice. I didn't start downloading social media apps until months later and after 2 years or so with it, I noticed that it wasn't very useful and beneficial to me so I deleted all of social media from phone. Also I think that because I'm older and didn't start using social media until so late in my age, I find looping videos like TikTok and IG reels.... too annoying somehow... it's so strange that it's designed to keep people engaged but it does the opposite for me. Also you are right more guys are off social media, and more women are on it probably as you said. It's natural for women to be more engaged socially and talkative/gossip/get information and it's more of a benefit for women than it is for men. Cool channel, keep up the videos! :)
Thank you I will!!! And yes especially as the social media updates that keep coming it’s so exhausting even thinking about utilizing all the features lol
3 years without tiktok and going on two months strong without Instagram. I’m 26 and can say I don’t think I’d ever go back. I feel calmer, focused, and can get in touch with myself on a deeper level. I’m starting to discovery new hobbies that I enjoy and don’t do just for the sake of other people liking it.
I’m very thankful that I came across this video, as I’ve been looking for other girls who also do not have social media. I used to be extremely addicted, had a spam on instagram etc. Howver, I got in that cycle of deactivating my pages and I eventually deleted all my social media 3 months ago. I wanted a change for myself, and social meds didn’t help. I love the feeling without it.
@@MoonbeamsWorld I’d like to see tips on how you made meaningful friendships after social media. Things you do in your feee time now that you’re off it, etc.
hehe! one step ahead of you! video comes out tomorrow about things to do instead of scrolling but I didn't talk about making friendships but thats another good idea tysm! @@vanna5277
As someone in their mid 20s struggling to abstain from social media surrounded by a college campus full of people addicted to it, this video makes me feel seen.
"Go out and meet people"...yeah, but in real life people are offline. Couple of weeks ago I went to starbucks to grab a coffee and I forgot my phone at home, decided to sit and enjoy my coffee and myself. I looked around and EVERYONE were on their phones. People be sitting next to eachother, scrolling, texting instead of have some real converstion. It scares me where things are going.
Ngl this video resonated with me so strongly. I've felt this way about social media for a while but due to the fact that I eventually want to stream/create content, I'm trying to learn how to use social media but it really doesn't' fit me. This definitely pushes me to want to do what I dream to do. Thanks for the video!
I am delighted for coming across your video here! I'm a millennial and have been off socials for 3.5 years now. I feel we share the same sentiment on the ups and downs, especially regarding making friends/genuine connections. However, it's such a freeing feeling to be on your own and figure out what you want in your own space. During these few years I was able to do that and I've stepped into the place of becoming a well-being coach, working on my own business and a YT channel. I definitely had the same thought of utilizing social media to promote my business but you said it very well, those that resonate with your channel will resonate regardless of how they came. That's what I decided to do as well. I do believe that social media can be good, it is a great space to build a community and engage with like minded people. I appreciate your sharing, it has given me a little brightness to the trajectory/path that I chose to be on. Thanks!
I'm very early Gen Z and I started using social media nonstop from high school onward. I remember when Snapchat was first introduced on the app store and how much I spent posting every bit of my life there, curating a life on IG, and basically exploiting myself for content on Tumblr for years. Now, in my mid 20s, I'm finally off every social media outside of Reddit and RUclips and it's been so isolating and so freeing at the same time. I love your video about this. It was so comfy casual and I'm excited to see your channel!
People often use social media because of FOMO, but we don't acknowledge that time on these apps makes us miss out on our own lives.
YES YES YES so true
exactlyyy we should have more of a fear of not missing out than missing out. when you "miss out" you're really just gaining more time to connect and be with yourself :)
nah literally
I deleted mine a couple days ago
That sums it up perfectly!
When I noticed that I was excited for events or vacations because of the pictures I could post, that's when I knew I needed to step back. I pray that I can find more women irl that think like this.
wow that's so interesting ty for sharing
I pray you can! I feel pretty alone in this as well.
@@shadowtail2004 thank you! we have to just maintain our high standards for friendships and not settle out of loneliness
Girl same 🥲
yeah same, when i went on a vacation my only priority for taking photos was that they'd be good enough for instagram. i decided to stop that and now my photo album is a much cleaner space without the million copies of each photo.
One thing for me that I noticed is that a lot of people around me will not reach out to unless I have social media which makes me sad. It’s not a FOMO but Ig i just need a better community around me
Edit: what’s crazy is how when I commented this I felt so alone but to see other ppl feel the same makes me hopeful that we’ll find our peoples!
Real
So true
That’s why I haven’t deleted snap yet
Yep, no FB, no IG, no TikTok, no Snapchat, no … whatever else there is. AND IM AT PEACE. I LOVE IT. But been heavy on YT ever since, lol.
Me too but YT still makes me feel so much better like the control of what you watch you know?
@MoonBeamsWorld I agree completelyy with you. YT is so much better.
me too im off for like a lil more than a year now n its great i too have been heavy on yt since.. which i am working on to reduce currently so overall its great tho sometimes i dont understand the context of some memes my friends show me.😅😅
Once I’m off I end up binging RUclips or trying to find connection on other sites but I also think it defeats the purpose of trying to make those connections in rl.
no social media here, just a single daily youtube video. this was my one video today! thanks for the conversation this was a great video 🖤🖤🖤
wow a SINGLE VIDEO?! that is incredible self control I seriously admire that and am so honored you chose mine! 💗
that’s so cool! when and how did you begin doing that?
This just now occurred to me as something I might need to limit as well because, like 20 or more videos in one day?! that's a lot...
this is such a great move
Wow that’s amazing 👏🏽
We all need to petition RUclips to give us an option to turn off shorts!!!
THISSSS
a really good tips I suggest for all you guys: say no with youtube on smartphone, just use youtube on pc/computer, then set your youtube page become old youtube layout more than 10 years ago, it works really well.
If you go into settings > general > video playback and turn it off, then click "not interested" on all the first available yt shorts on the your feed before restarting the app, it'll get them off your home feed :)
there is a chrome/firefox extension on the laptop! but for mobile you can only click "not interested" (it'll go away for 30 days so you just have to keep clicking it)
Yessss
It’s crazy. We need to be careful with what we consume.
wow that is so interesting to hear.
Wow this blows my mind
That’s so true, like I first noticed it the slightly older generation than me ( I was born 94), I didn’t understand why older people always loved the same songs the same movies, had similar sense of humor etc, but as I got older I realized it’s because all of them had a similar experience and consumed the same content because it was the only available thing back then
And I felt it with the way I grew up, how people who used to watch the same cartoons and shows when they were younger tend to have the same sense of humor/ personality
And it’s the same with gen z and social media
But I think something that’s new with the the recent generations is that with the internet lots of people have easy access to more niche content resulting in vastly different experiences using social media
Like back in the days everyone had to watch what was on the tv or you had to buy or rent from the stores but now 2 people could be using TikTok but one of them is watching trends and influencer and the other is watching a more niche content like pet lizard care making the outcome of using it so different
Something else to note that how the experience change from country to country or from culture to culture
You become who you behold. ❤ Behold Jesus.
True! When you said RUclips doesn’t seem like a social media because you are CHOOSING what to watch!
Facts
!!
Very true
Are you really choosing? Did you come to RUclips to watch this video? I didn't :)

Congrats to you on 3 years clean 🥳🎉
wow that is so crazy when you put it that way. tysm for your comment
I’m an Elder Millennial (like, way elder 🤣) and I STILL struggle with not having my phone in my hand 24/7
Crap I feel old. I graduated in 1995. 🙄
i (2002) but my sister (1992) is obsessed with tiktok and facebook and i have neither of those things i think it just depends on the specific person not if they are millennial or not. i tend to use my phone more for games and watching content like vidoes and movies and messages with friends. my sister is always on tiktok and sending me links to watch vidoes and i’m like meh. i could do without but she loves to post her life up on facebook with everything that she does it’s wild. i did get tiktok when i was like a senior in highscool so 2020 but i deleted it cus it was BORING and took up storage i didn’t need it. i used snapchat between maybe 2016-2019 but got tired of it so i deleted it. i’ve had instagram though since i was like 15? till now at the age of 22 and honestly it’s the only social media app i need i used twitter for a while but delete it all the time i’ll check stuff and keep updated on things and then when i haven’t used it in a while i delete it. cus i can always log back in if i wanted to.
Strange how we end up lonely without social media but also with social media since it alienates us
thisssss!
realll
@@MoonbeamsWorld I love cozy games too! I have a Nintendo switch and love Stardew valley, spiritfarer, calico, and The Sims!
I’ve gotten better at my job, school, and my creative endeavors.
same! i love youtube bc it's so informational, but there's still a community aspect in the comments
That part
So true even the news can be addicting . Our brain just likes new things
😂 I truly don’t know what we should do. Sometimes I would how I got through the day in day 2003 . I mean there was the radio but… and I also wasn’t excessively watching tv . I don’t know lol 🤷🏽♀️
Literally it's got me scrolling through my photos or LinkedIn 😭 so hard to break the habit entirely
i’m 4 years clean i’m not anxious anymore
I’m speechless that is so amazing 🫶🥺 I wish more people would try this for anxiety
I am still anxious but that’s maybe because I haven’t found my group of people yet.
This is me, I have no worries anymore about posting or replying or missing out. I wasn't missing out on any drama and my mental health has changed for a better me. ✌️ 💛
yo how 😂 i can only do it for like 6 months
wow!
I have deleted all of my social media at 15, now I am 22.
I will never ever go back.
i am seriosuly so impressed
@Jay-xj5yt
Why do you feel the need to comment that under EVERY comment.
My god 😂
Huge respect damn.
Deleting social media also pushed me to leave the house and socialize and im so so so much happier for it
It totally makes us feel more busy than we actually are
I remember when Instagram said “you’re all caught up!” And that was it!
Being off social media feels good. It’s nice to focus on the moments and not live them through a screen. I wish I had friends that felt similarly. It really does change your outlook on life.
it really does
LITERALLY NOT HAVING SOCIAL MEDIA MAKES ME FEEL SO DISTANT FROM PPL!!
I've been dedicating my time to new hobbies and its just so refreshing.
its so hard like how do you fight the urge to download it lol or tiktok? .. lol I could've cared less abt tiktok before I became a consumer
Thank you for talking abt something so interesting, I really savored it
TYSM🥰those are my favorite kinds of videos too
As an older gen Z (97) I am old enough to remember a small sliver of life when social media could only be accessed on a computer at home and phones were just flip phones and everything felt so balanced before smartphones took over and I started spending 10 hours just scrolling away every day. It motivated me to return to that simpler time so I purged most of my socials (except YT) and have never felt happier.
lol why did i mistake that for 97 years old for a sec😭
What does fomo means ? I'm confused
@@jesterfeathers ohhh thank you
I recently stopped using socials, too.
Fascinating 🙂 I'm curious how. I'm assuming you've had a smartphone for a number of years? 🤔

Congratulations my friend! I am so happy for you! Stay strong in the faith
Thats awesome!! God is with you & guiding you. Much love ❤❤
i quit social media back in July 2020. it was something that i i wanted to do for a month, then that month became three months, six months, soon it was a year… maybe log in my laptop once or twice to show that i was active but other than that, i haven’t looked back. i am so glad that i spent my early 20s without any social media besides pinterest and yt are basically the only apps that i use. i never felt so free after deleting all the apps on my phone. i feel like i learned self-awareness in my surroundings and actually look what’s around me instead of being glued on my phone all the time. I’ll be honest sometimes my friends forget that i don’t have social media anymore and send stuff on my dms and i have to remind them that i don’t have social media. i am glad that i am not the only one who is doing this

I deleted my social media this past December. I wanted to be more in the present and making genuine connections, so far it’s been lonely since no one reaches out. I value those that I get to interact with in person.
I was feeling lonely trying to make connections, projecting. With people who genuineky dont care about my well being

A FLIP PHONE?! Dude you’re so cool lol how is that? Do people give you second looks for having one?!
I haven't really noticed anyone in public taking notice since not having the smart phone I'm not really ever on my phone if I'm out and about, but my friends and family have really gotten a kick out of it, mostly positive reactions, some family members like to poke fun but it makes me laugh regardless. i deleted everything a couple weeks ago but redownloaded tiktok because i did find some valuable niches , strangely enough. i found myself on youtube shorts, which is so frustrating that every app added a short form interface, like you mentioned. it is still a struggle for me, and something i am on the beginning of the journey of. i do wish communication was text messaged based, for example i started a new job and the group chat is on snapchat. i agree that we are perhaps past the line of no return. admire you for your journey, and i think any sense of isolation is worth it for the authenticity you find within yourself

Thank you so much ❤️
You seem so wise, great advice!!

That’s honestly so smart
Love love love what you said about “downloading personalities.”
I find myself thinking independently and even though my ideas aren’t crazy or radical, I find that a majority of people are thinking the same way and if I ask questions or say anything different than the “norm” right now, people have a hard time and either don’t know what to say or they get judgmental and jump to conclusions.
The people who gather and judge “group think” are often the ones that are group thinking.

Thank you so much for making this video! I’m 19 with no social media, and I often feel so alone in this decision. Watching this video made me feel less alone and realize there’s other people like me out there!
That’s the youngest I’ve heard without it wow! 🫶 amazing
Gratitude for sharing
had to quit alcohol 10 years ago , along with Facebook.
It's been a few years without Twitter.
No Instagram. No snapchat and No Tik Tok.
Amazing ❤️ thank you so much for your comment
Im off social media as of this year and love it, RUclips seems to be much more wholesome and slow
Honestly a week is a lot! Those little spurts without it are so refreshing!!
The challenge of small business owners is that until you get a bigger budget, hiring someone to manage the social media is almost impossible.
Thank you so much for your comment it helps a lot :) I also will infact KEEP rocking the 90s hehe!
still makes me wonder how i ever went alone to skate nights back in school when i was 6 lmao im 34 now. feels like i made it up or dreamed it but it happened! it was like 4 or 5 pm till 8 or 9 pm on fridays or sats and id go alone, no friends there or anything and skate the whole time with no damn issues then just wait for dad inside the glass doors to come pick me up. i can't even use a phone now lol. i blame my shyness ive always had though, its really crippling when it comes to having to deal with people. people tell me to speak up cuz they cant hear me and then i do and then it sounds like im screaming and then i get told that and i just sigh and stop talking and just want to cry.
can we stop saying things are cancer??? thats so disrespectful to people who have it.
It’s beautiful & human 😊
when you turn off your phone and realize no one looks like they do online and actually they usually look way more beautiful is an amazing thing!
@Jay-xj5yt yup
i have done many thing that have changed my life by far one of the most powerful was deleting social media , back in the day distraction was very normal as soon as i deleted social media is like i have no more excuses/ distractionsto figure out the world around me
Sis same! I delete social media decade ago and still not having for personal issue.
And im glad that you did too!
It's a blessing for those people who can delete social media for their mental health issues.
yesss i wish more people would try! tysm for your comment :)
It's all about making your feeds show you what you want to see.
gah, this video made me feel so seen. It's truly so hard to find people who understand this mindset being off social media.
this comment made me feel so seen 💗💗💗
17:00 this part hits hard! I noticed that too everytime I stepped away from socials. I just started to develop my own personal thinking and when you come back it doesn't click with the flow that everybody is following.
As an older gen-Z I have been mostly absent on social media for the last 5 years, I post once in a blue moon, like when I graduated, or when I had a cute photo in a really nice place in a special day. I feel less stressed and anxious due to the privacy I allowed myself to have.
Ya I think that’s a great way to go about it too
I needed to hear this.
You got my subscription, thanks!
thank you sooo muchhhh 💗
It’s interesting listening to you talk because you sound like your own person if that makes sense? Like you have your own unique intonation, pattern of voice/speech etc. Most gen z’s all speak exactly the same idk how to explain it. They all have the influencer voice. Even the way you recorded your video was not “trendy”. You have a personality. I hope one day this can be me too!
The “voice” you’re talking about boils my blood ! 🙂
Social media irritates me so much and I want to delete sooo bad but it’s hard! Deleting TikTok is easy, but deleting instagram in uni is difficult, since lots of interactions happen on there.
Yes dude the amount of times I get asked for my insta when I’m on a college campus is crazy. I feel like it’s still such a huge form of communication
@@MoonbeamsWorld it’s hugeee still, all of my student organizations use it for communication and I’m like rahhh let me go incognito plsss. But yeah when I graduate, I’m going on a cleanse for sure
I deleted my social media 7 months ago.
@@sammyfigs LITERALLY. I appreciate those that use GroupMe though. It’s not as intrusive.
He’s never had any social media, and that was so different to me that I always admired him so much that he actually “influenced” me in that way
haha a TRUE influlencer!
Right?! oh my gosh honestly such an achievement to be BORED on Instagram lol!
Literally same then i just deactivate it after like 5 minutes😭😭😭
Lol same @@Beautynillussion
Yes! I tried to scroll on Instagram after being off for months and it was the most boring thing to me. I don't miss it at all!
'Everything is an ad'
This is so true.
Good for you!
thank you! 💕
You look like the most healthy gen z I ever saw

ty for your comment I'm happy I could help a little
ive been off social media for abt a month now i can say its definitely helping me be more productive with my time and cherish it more, unfortunately i have noticed the lack of reaching out from friends has drastically dropped and i just think of wanting to connect with people organically that i meet out but shaking the social anxiety is hard but its surely going to change as i keep of social media. congrats on 3 years!!! 🎉🎉
I wish you the best of luck
This is the most important social conversation right now. I think what you said about ✨being in tune with our own beat instead of the world✨ is what people are missing these days. People aren't in connection with themselves and i think it's a huge contributor to why we all feel like shit.
Please keep this conversation going, it is so so so important to talk about.
Tysm making another video on it so soon 🫶
it's interesting how everyone is a bit different when it comes to social media.
I love the feeling too 💕 stick around and let me know what you wanna see cuz I’m on that journey too!!
I have deleted my social media 2 months ago. It truly was brain washing. Definitely worth it.
ahhh amazing!
The happiest people I know aren’t on social media!
Thanks!
wow thats so amazing. Thank you SO MUCH for your comment :)
It was so comfy casual and I'm excited to see your channel!
thank you so much for sharing!!!
