    Update - thank you so much everyone for all the love on this video! I've never had the response from a video like this before so I really appreciate it and love hearing your different opinions and thoughts on using a flip phone and on a digital detox 🥰
    I have made a free digital detox toolkit which contains a bunch of resources including a 7-day digital detox step-by-step challenge if you are wanting to do your own digital detox! You can access it here - www.jessfarnham.com/digital-detox-toolkit
    Since the release of this video, I have also made some more videos so will leave a link here to my 2024 playlist if you want to check them out - ruclips.net/p/PLwfKWdLAxKe7L52HFbgzKNMsbMsye01eR&si=U5HP1-OrPpnrDyUr
    Thank you!❤ (PS. The phone I used was the TTfone flip TT1140 and I got it on Amazon!)

      Hey, I actually have a phone like that. They’re marketed for kids and teens, but they’ll work for whatever. There’s a few of them I think, mine is a Gabb phone. No social media, no internet browser. It has call and text, and they just added video calling too. As well as maps, a decent camera, a files player, for music, and they also have the ability to download some third party apps if you want. I really like mine, because it’s marketed for parents to get for their teen sometimes you have to fiddle around with the restrictions, but that’s pretty much just in the set up process. The bill is also pretty cheap, I think mine is like $35 a month, a bit more if you need more data (I only need 5g a month😂)

Every now and then I do manage to spend a lot of time without the phone and those hours feel just ecstatic to me, I feel so alive and aligned with my actual values that it's just really odd how it seems I'm not able to keep it up for very long, but that's just how addictions function I suppose :D I love how much calmer you seem when you've completed the week in this video! @@JessFarnham for real it’s like a different language. I remember having MySpace and thinking it was neat but said this isn’t really that worth getting into, then Facebook & twitter came around said the same. Had an ig and saw how it really was making people glued to their phone.
      I have my view on the whole phone/social media thing. Instead of boring you with that I’ll say this instead. Taking such a big shift to be well normal? Able to enjoy life. Many being normalized by phone use will see you as off but in reality your living.
      With cd’s I uploaded my latest purchase, Dasha’s new album which I think is pretty awesome!
      I uploaded a cdplayer video a while back and still stand by that brand and model. Though really any player will be amazing. I use my 4k Blu-ray player when I want that sweet 7.1 audio though.

    wooowww!! ur video is really well done, i was really engaged with the interesting shots, music, and commentary ^^ i also got a flip phone last february, and its been my primary device for communication since then hehe ~
    my iphone actually got ran over (by my own car) 2 years ago, so i had no phone AT ALL for a little over a year 😭my parents bought me a flip phone because they needed to contact me once school started. i fought with them a lot because i was a little scared i would get made fun of, or would miss out a lot if i wasn't on social media. but i found out it really wasn't the case, i got much more done, i also got back to reading, and i felt like i was just MORE in the moment you know?? like my senses and emotions were heightened, and i felt a lot more, rather than just numbing myself to scrolling all the time. i was able to be bored, frustrated, impatient.. but i also found myself smiling at a lot of little things and being proud of my accomplishments rather than comparing myself to people online.
    i actually admire how you CHOSE to distance yourself from the digital world, and i think a lot of people would benefit from your discipline 😊. i just turned 16, and as someone who's also gen z, i also strongly encourage u to keep going!! i hope u find the balance between ur work in social media, and ur life outside of it. rooting for u!!! xx 🥰🥰

    I’m also heaving a though time with smartphone and social media addiction. I’ve tried to deactivate my social media accounts but doesn’t work that much because I was always thinking about activating it back. So the thing I’m doing right now that it’s working for me is just deleting the social media apps during the week (without deactivating my accounts), so if I need to talk to someone I will access my computer to do it and I don’t spend much time on it. On Fridays or Saturdays I install the apps back to post something through the weekend, but on Sunday night I deleted all of it. It seems like a huge work but it isn’t that much, my focus and attention are back, and sometimes I just forget that I have social media.

    the main reason i go on my phone is for music, but also go on other apps (mainly socials) while i do so. i also have the tendency to skip through songs which i feel can be linked to my lower attention span. i have begun to limit my socials to ten - fifteen minutes, but even then it is a quick and easy access to add more time while i am on my phone. because of this, i am asking for an mp3 player as a Christmas present in hopes that i can transfer my music over (in an ideal order to ease the continuous changing of songs before they even finish) and be less on my phone! these kinds of videos make the anxiety of thinking about not being able to constantly be on my phone and keeping up to date with every little thing less scarier than what i make it to be! and ive seen a common thing with these kinds of videos - the fear of being without it and the anxiety isnt as present and persistent during the time allocated to be less on the phone! it is easier once you do it in comparison to the anxiety beforehand

    • @JessFarnham
      @JessFarnham  2 месяца назад +1

      That is 1000% true about the anxiety beforehand vs when you actually do it it honestly feels like a weight has been lifted I can't describe it! I went to a phone shop and got a SIM card pack, popped out the pack’s smallest sim and put my existing sim into that so it would fit into the flip phone ! Xx

    What a great video! My goal is to get monetized on RUclips, and eventually use that money to purchase a camera. I’ve deleted all social media, and plan to delete YT from my phone once I can get a camera. I like the iPhone features, but want to make it as “dumb” as possible!
