I made something vaguely similar, my tablet...the very one I'm typing on right now, has the speaker element on the back, designed for you to cup your right hand on the bottom, redirecting the sound towards you...I built a horizontal wood block...out of Quebracho, very heavy wood, cut a slot in it, and a hole lined up in the back, lined up with said element, attached the remains of a French horn curving out from the back, pointed forward...sounds remarkable.
Ricardo Ellison I'm really curious to see a picture of it, sounds like a clever device! If you have Facebook why don't you send me a pic on my page? :)
Antonello De Angelis Actually, my version is a compromise of what I really intended, which is why I was attracted to your design...I thought you had built te same as I "calculated", a design based in simple mathematics. (you might want to draw this out as per my description) My original design was oriented towards one skilled in woodworking (I'm not, but you obviously are). To create a true horn, one must control the sound expansion at a steady rate. If I recall it was 1.15 times the area for every 30mm traveled...the element is only 8mm by 20mm rectangular, so I was going to layer up five rectangles of pressboard at 8mm thick, a slot 20mm from the front for the tablet to drop into, the element lining up with the center #3 board, that one board, 8mm thick, would have one wall straight back, the other wall curved at an expansion rate in area of 1.13 per 30mm. The top two, & the bottom two, the "horn layered between the two. As it reaches the back it was full length, still 8mm thick, but expanded out to some 200mm or so, turning 90 degrees down as it nears the width, to a slot. jumping 16mm down, then it uses the very bottom of five-stack to come forward (a fixed parameter), then the bottom of this "horn" can be curved away, again be calculated at 1.13 times the area for every 30mm...for a curved panel on the inside of the box, a straight panel on the inside at the top. I was going to use One-inch thick pressboard, for the bottom curvature, since it would be only eight or nine layers, each one individually cut for the curvature, the whole stack glued together. Two horns, First one 8mm by 20mm starting...ending in 8mm by appx 200mm, turning onto a second horn...8mm by 200mm to start , expanding out to 200mm by 180mm? at the end...can you picture it now? Rick...BTW, there are much prettier brass horn versions than I have, all here on YT.
Wow, I don't think I would have ever been able to make such calculations, mine was just a simple fun build, without any attention whatsoever to acoustics (I'm no audiophile nor engineer), but you seem to be quite into sound engineering! :D
Antonello, really nice work! I'm going to try it myself next weekend! I have a question, though: at 5:50, why did you "sand" the wood with that left-over wood from the planer?
thank you luiz! :) the reason why I did it is to birnish the wood to give it a somewhat polished shine. it's a technique carpenters used to use back in the old days instead of fine sandpaper :)
actually it's not exactly 90°, the aperture widens outwards, but I don't know the exact angle. I'm quite sure the angle affects acoustics, but I'm not an audiophile and I don't know how much. :)
cute little tablesaw/mitersaw combo. what's the make? ..or is it a mod? that router trick made me cringe a little. throat opening looks to be a bit much for such use like that. imho
Jay Wen hi, my miter saw is not a a mod, those models are fairly common here in Italy :) yes I know that way of hacking a router table together is not exactly safe, but I was in a hurry. also, as long as you don't let the piece get into the mouth nothing happens. anyway you are certainly right! :) thanks for commenting :)
Antonello De Angelis ... I cant say Ive never done anything similarly dangerous and I still have all my fingers in tact. although theyve got their fair amount of scars. but none from any electric machinery. ..anyway, thanks for the reply and for sharing the video. ...and think about getting a router pad or some kitchen drawer liner -cheers!
Antonello De Angelis yea. that will scratch that itch to the bone in a big hurry. I scratched a similar itch with a stanley cross cut hand saw on my left thumb. ..trying to show off to my son about how to make spring clamps out of pvc pipe. holding pipe in hand, in the air. unsupported like the laws of physics don't apply to me when they're inconvenient. ..and a little bit of Murphy's law too.. lol
amazing non as usual 👌👍👍
+Valerio Forconi thx a lot!! ^^
nice
I love how you make use of your space
thank you, I appreciate that :)

Very nice. Enjoyed watching the build.
valveman12 thanks my friend :)
Grazie ancora
Quick tip: The Aeropress funnel makes a great amplifier for phones with speakers on their back...
Wow so good , thx for showing
+Douglas Boucheix thanks man! :D
Great work, cheers!
+Qtherc Thank you so much!! ;D
can you please tell me the brand of the miter/table saw you have. I have never seen anything like it.
the brand is Femi, italian made, but many other brands make similar ones, lime makita :)
Thank you so much
bello :)
+TheDacchio Grazie! :)

Nice technique! I'll try it also. Keep up the good content, I'm enjoying it a lot!
Best regards!
Wondering if it would make a difference if you do a angled 45º in each of the back corner verse the 90º for louder amplification.

Awesome :) Thanks for sharing!
thank you very much, Krista! :)
Che bello quel legno più scuro!!!! Dove lo hai trovato? Il risultato è d'impatto! Complimenti

i got a school project..... how do u make the phone sit in the hole??
The hole is only partly dug through, there's a center section that holds the phone :)
Owh.... Didn't think of that...thanks
+Noise Maker anytime! ;)

Jay Wen well, my hands have too, just a few days ago my thumb was itching and I decided to scratch it with an angle grinder and a 40gr. flap disc 😂

Work with a ready made wooden small box to reduce time and effort.
Some needs to combine one of these or similar with wireless charging.
What are the size specs?
Genial

quello piu scuro dovrebbe essere PADUK
Attento alle sue polveri....leggermente tossiche.....
grazie, in effetti come colore siamo lì :)
