One of those guilty pleasure songs. Great beat. Catchy phrases. And how many artists can successfully inject samples of Spock and Bones into their work?
One thing about these 80s new wave hits is that they were all hook.
They should check out that Leonard Nimoy Bilbo Baggins song....bizarre!
Pure Energy.
This is where the ‘80s we’re about to transition to the ‘90s. You can tell by the fashion, colors, and music.
Yeah, it has that proto-Grebo sound expanded on by the likes of Jesus Jones, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Pop Will Eat Itself. EMF, etc.
YES. The chords and colors chaos period! One of my favorites as a teen.
Yep late 80s
This song always takes me back to the workout craze of the '80s. Yes, it was played all the time in the dance clubs, but it was also played in the gyms. Aerobics classes loved it! And the ladies were all wearing those orangey-tan, no-color-found-in-nature shiny tights under leotards with ultra-high French-cut legs, and later the thong backs on them. And a terrycloth sweat band around our heads. With hi-top Reeboks and leg warmers. 😆 We thought we were smokin' hot!
Born in 1977, so I was only a kid when this was out, but I heard it a BILLION times on the radio. Reminds me of my childhood.
Same here, I was born 1978. The 80s were magical and we were lucky to grow up in that time.
@@soakedbearrd All the kids today idolize the 80's. It's a trend. (Stranger Things) My kids wish they grew up then. That's how you know it was a great time.
1971 here and man I miss the 80s lol
Always been a big fan of this song! Definitely got us on the dance floor back in the day. The "Pure Energy" part is the best!
Fun Fact: Leonard Nimoy is the voice saying "pure energy", taken from a Star Trek episode, 1968.
@@brainscott8198 That's a great fun fact. Thanks! I suspected it was from someone famous but didn't know who.
Hack was a great album
@@brainscott8198 omigerd, I never knew that!! Thank you for sharing. Live long and prosper. And stuff. 😆
@@mkmstillstackin also Dr MacCoy did the intro voice over.
I can't help but think that when Brad takes off his hat, his hair looks just like the lead singer of Information Society.
God, this song was such a huge hit. A lot of great times on the dance floor.
Massive dance track at the clubs back in the day, there were literally 1000's of DJ mixes to this track
And “Running” of course; in NYC was the bigger club song
@@jacqueline4514 I think I had some 12 minute version of Running on my Maxell tapes lol
Yeah that’s true lots of remixes. When I was dj’ing mostly breakbeats 20 years ago this version was the one I’d play 👇🏻
ruclips.net/video/HbUvGl4rE78/видео.html
@@fern Haha! That’s great! And Maxell were the good cassettes 😊
Such an 80s video. Cutting edge back then, today it looks like a high school film project.
Information Society was in between new wave, Indie-dance music and freestyle music. I think they would count. Almost like Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Jesus Jones,
There is a lot of overlap with new wave, indie-dance (like Eurodance music, techno) , and freestyle music, upbeat, dance music and very electronical, while new wave/post-punk is more punk rock influenced, freestyle music is more Latin music influenced.
They were a cool late'80s and '90s group. Information Society has a video/song "Runner" which was also big, more freestyle sounding, check that one out, too. "Think" video/song as well, check it out!
A lot of these songs was more about the music on the dance floor then the meanings behind the lyrics
I watched the show in my city right after Rock in Rio. I remember Kurt Harland being on roller skates all the time.
It must be weird to hear this song in 2022, for the current generation. For those who lived through the 80s and 90s, they are an unforgettable band with several hits (Think, Mirrorshades, Running, Come With Me, Walking Away, How Long, Now That I Have You).
Met the band at a record store in Newark, Delaware in the late 80s. He was wearing roller skates at the time and told us he lost a bet and had to wear them for like a year.

I love this band and song! I saw them in concert in 1990 at Astroworld (Six Flags park in Houston). I won tickets on the radio the day of the concert, it was a two hour drive from where I lived. My mom dropped me and a date off at the park, went to the library to do some research for me, and then picked us up. We didn't have much money, but she spoiled me any way should could.
I was there! Astroworld concerts! And i won tickets too for Pet Shop Boys from 97.5FM or was it 93.5FM?
Astroworld. Wow, I miss that place.
That was the southern star amphitheater. I always tried to win tickets on the radio. They had really good shows there.
I miss Astroworld, lots of concerts being held there. I was there when Howard Jones and New Order performed.
This was out when I first started high school in 1988 (it peaked on the charts in October) and it will always remind me of that. Going to all ages clubs, getting choked by smoke machines and dancing to songs like this and others from the same time period. Great memories.
Information Society "Walking Away",, "Something In The Air",, "Think" & "Make It Funky"
That breakdown where it's just snare and keys is just fantastic. Always loved this track. So catchy
This was played a lot during my freshman year in college. Great dance song. They used an audio clip from tv show Star Trek where the character of Spock says, "pure energy." Great album.
This song sounds the best on the radio in your car, with the bass turned all the way up. Killer. I think the lead singer is cute too, so serious looking.
Had this blasting in the IROC!! CC music factory too!.
Oh yes, the best times!
The 90s techno craze was real
Yes!!! The Information Society song “Running” was a huge club hit; love this song too. My husband and I still listen on the regular ❤️
Tommy Boy records who was their label & was mostly Latin Freestyle promoted this band to their key markets in NYC, Miami, Chicago & LA first. It was Miami who broke the song "Running" on heavy rotation and made it a dance club hit.
@@xoxxobob61 Tommy Boy records put out SO much good music, all the way back to Planet Rock; that song, for me, was a game changer
Sampled Star Trek; Spock saying "pure energy"
Yeah, and starts with a line from Bones, too!
Classic 80's Jam. And I love the samples of Leonard Nimoy & DeForest Kelley...I raise my glass high to two great performers who brought so much to so many. 🥃
The crossover in beats about halfway thru -- you know it when you hear it -- is really sexy musically and pleasing to the ear. This song was EVERYWHERE for a few years. L.A. forevermore.
Yep! Gotta say, we dug this one a lot when it came out back in the day-
That was one of the club bumpers back in the 80's.. You would hear this on every dance floor. I don't remember it playing on the radio as much as you would here it playing in dance clubs. When I do hear this song, of course I think of Mr. Spock but for some reason I also think of the Dune song - Eon's ' The Spice Must Flow '
Also, check out the song "I Beg Your Pardon" by the group Kon Kan. Released around the same time as "What's On Your Mind" and sonically similar to Information Society.
That is an amazing song
I remember hearing this on the radio when it was released. I was in junior high. I immediately rushed out to the mall and bought the single on a 45 rpm record. I still have it!
Takes me back, Running is another big dance song of theirs. Makes me think of groups like the Art of noise, Close to the Edit and Pet shop Boy's, West end Girls.
I was stationed in Germany when this came out and the Germans loved it. The dance floor would be full when they played this song.
Like a cross between early Nine Inch Nails and Livin' In A Box.
I know this from 1988 because I was working at my first job and they were playing this on the radio a lot.
Awesome song
I had the same thought.😮
Love dropping this on the club.
And “Running”. That song would have me in a trance on the dance floor ❤️
Love love love Information Society! They have so many great songs!
100% Agreed.
Me too!
Pure 80s classic, music and video. Love it.
Great choice! Pretty sure bike shorts and neon made the world a better place. I'm not going to look up when this came out but just judging from my recollection of my wardrobe at that time I'm going to say 1988.
The sample of Spock goes over so many people's heads. He could do the Mind meld, and know what you're thinking. Great pop culture reference and one of my favorite all-time songs 😃
Chemical Brothers - Salmon Dance. One of the best innovative vids ever. And funky AF!
InSoc is an American band from Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, initially active from 1982 to 1997, primarily consisting of Kurt Harland Larson, Paul Robb, and James Cassidy; the latter two reconvened the band in 2006, initially with Christopher Anton as lead vocalist, then with Harland rejoining them as lead vocalist by 2008.
You can't help but not groove to this song
Early 90's Hi-NRG dance music here. So catchy it hurts.
Released 1988
THIS WAS MY JAM IN HIGH SCHOOL!!!!! 🤪🤣🔥
Dude had the best hair ever. The boys tried to copy it but could never get it that cool.
"It's worked so far, but we're not out yet"
Great 80s tune. Nice choice.
i was a DJ back then and some of the remixes club dub mixes were off the chain!
Great song. Information Society was on the Tommy Boy label.
I was just now shocked to realize that. When I think of Tommy Boy I think of House of Pain or Naughty by Nature.
@@3DJapan Yeah. I had a couple Tommy Boy compilation CDs and they always put one Information Society song on there along with Digital Underground and the rest.
I had completely forgot about this song and band
Please do "Mirror in the Bathroom: by the English Beat...please...
This song always brings back good memories.. 😁
Pure energy!
Saw those guys in concert in California when I was a sophomore- lol.
Power 106 (105.9) FM in Los Angeles used this as their into/outro music in the late 80's, early 90's. Brings back memories
Awwww 1988 pure energy
Okay, I will say, this album has a few more hits. They ,ay come off as a cartoon band but they are deeper than what they sound.
Now you just dwnld a song, or watch a youtube video to hear/see it. I remember being a kid, and requesting this song over and over again to the local radio station. I was always on standby with the cassette tape ready to hit record and dub it off the radio. We made mix tapes, our own playlists. The good ol Maxell 120's. I miss those times...I wanna go back
This song epitomizes the 80s for me. My absolute fav 80s jam.
All skate everybody skate! ah the memories
Love their "Cry Baby."
This came on the radio one time and my GF grabbed my shirt with both hands and play-shook me going "Telllllll MEEEE!" and we both laughed. :)
Maybe the song I loved most when I was growing up. I waited and waited to hear it come on the radio.
Omg I love this! Memories!
This is a new whole genre of music both of u haven't reacted to 80s old Tech music
Leonard Nimoy "Spock" is the person saying pure energy
The Flaming Lips "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots" & "Do You Realize" (Official Music Videos For BOTH!!)
THIS was a club BANGER. But you should check out their first single release "Running."
You Can Definitely Add This Classic To Your MUST SEE/HEAR List,, Timbuk 3 "Life Is Hard"...TRUST ME!
What this song NEEDED and received was a REMIX which transformed it into a formidable dance hit.
One of the best music of Information Society. The source of eletronic pop music.
Def a great song back in the day going to the clubs!
There song Running is great also next freestyle will try for that one
‘88 was Junior year of high school .. hated this song, hated this genre of music… “EDM” wasn’t even a thing yet… little did I know that a measly 8yrs later id fall in absolute love with the progression of this genre which turned into progressive house / trance music… and now? ..I kinda like this song.. 😎
I was a total metal head when this CD came out. I got one. The entire album is great.
I remember this one on the Freestyle stream and everyone saying "this isn't a Freestyle song". See, I never considered Freestyle to mean it had to be Latin influenced. I was a club DJ for many years and in my younger days this song was a useful tool. It mixes perfectly with a lot of traditional Freestyle songs. I would use it to switch genres. Going from Freestyle into this and then into a Depeche Mode dance remix or, my favorite, Ministry "Every Day Is Halloween". This one was a rager on the dance floor years ago! Brings back memories of some crazy nights!
Funny thing is that Information Society is huge in South America!
You're right, it is kind of inbetween genres.
I’ve been trying so hard to get reactors to pay some attention to Freestyle; it’s being completely overlooked and for many of us, especially us in NYC, where so much of it originated, it was our LIFE; on the dance floor, every weekend. Judy Torres, Lil’ Suzy, Nayobe, George Lamond, I could go on; as a DJ, you know, of course! So funny that this Tuesday I’ll be at the Legends of Vinyl Hall of Fame ceremony in Queens; some of what will be there is C-Bank, Sa-Fire, Cynthia; Cyre. it still lives ❤️.
@@jacqueline4514 I was on this Freestyle live stream. The problem is, we didn't really know what it was, so we did not not know what to recommend. You have to get on the live stream and tell us.
@@jacqueline4514 Unfortunately, to get them to react to Freestyles songs they must do another Freestyle live stream, which I doubt they will do again. These songs will never make it to the polls on the regular 80s live streams because the John Fogherty and Mellencamp mob will always crush it. Same for New Wave.
Fun Fact: Leonard Nimoy is the voice saying "pure energy", taken from a Star Trek episode, 1968. Somewhere, a hardcore, diehard Trekkie will know the exact date and time and series number of the episode..lol.😄😄
Nimoy's sample is from Star Trek "Errand of Mercy" March 23, 1967, and DeForest Kelley's voice (and the androids) is from "I, Mudd" November 3, 1967. 🤣
@@joes2514 Live long and prosper. 🖖
An MTV guilty pleasure...
Another one to check out is Wild Wild West by the Escape Club.
I’ve only heard the song, but now that I’ve seen the video it’s even better.
About those lyrics... I thinks he's singing about his frustration that his gf/bf won't open up to him, that they don't communicate. Anyway, this is a GREAT club song of the late-80s.
Hey! Thanks for this, Brad & Lex. It's always fun to hear what other people think without me being in the room to make them afraid to be honest... 🤣 And Lex, you are totally spot-on about the lyrics. I was young. I needed help. 😆
Pure 80's new wave..love it
The Official Music Video Is A MUST For This Track That Will Hit You Different,, Peaches (Featuring Iggy Pop) "Kick It"
loved them.
I remember when this song first came out it was my second year of college.. Go Spock 🖖
Now you should check out "Think" by Information Society.
This song has aged so well. Still sounds amazing.
You Both DEFINITELY Better Put On Your Seatbelts For This One,, Starcrawler "Bet My Brains" (Official Music Video A MUST!!)
Tomorrow and Repetition is my favorite 😍
Hacky sack FOREVER 😆
Thanks for reacting to this one guys! I wish more Reactors would do this. Love this song. "Walking Away" "Think" and "How Long" are my other favs. Someone did a mashup of this one and Walking Away and posted it on here. Check it out sometime.
brilliant haircut - best EVER ❤🔥
Love love love love this song!!! Can't sit still when it comes on 😅
Walking Away was another hit by them if you so desire.
MONSTER club hit, love it!
You should check out “running” from them. Got that oldschool crossover freestyle/synth sound.
If you like this you would probably like freestyle music (not rapping). Artists like Shannon, Cover girls, TKA, Noel, Cynthia, Sa-fire etc….
They did a Freestyle live stream about a month ago, sorry you missed it! Some of the songs they played were not Freestyle though because the chat voters weren't familiar with this kind of music (many thought it was rap). But the good Freestyle songs they played were:
The Cover Girls - Because of You
Shannon - Let the Music Play
Taylor Dayne - Tell it to My Heart
Expose - Come Go with Me
There were a couple of others but I don't remember. They seemed to enjoy it. But it's been almost a month now and they have not posted these reactions, so maybe they did not actually like it I guess.
@@Xman156 oh wow I must have missed it, weird I didn’t get any notifications. Thanks I’ll check it out.
Just checked I don’t think they uploaded any of the videos yet, so I’ll be on the look out.

I jumped in that livestream, too. Lot of good songs and suggestions, polled songs. It was a good fun stream. A lot of people on that stream educated Lex/Brad on the genre, so it wasn't all that confusing.
They liked the music actually, they just haven't uploaded them all yet. They are really backlogged and I believe they only upload like 4-5 videos a day.
Xman listed the right songs, all legit freestyle music songs. Also they did Snap! "Power" (I think it's more Eurodance, techno, house music, kind of hip-hop) . So that one was a little odd on the voters. lol. They did Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam "Head To Toe" (legit freestyle), Teena Marie "Lovergirl" (legit, that's uploaded), and Nice & Wild "Diamond Girl" (legit freestyle , they uploaded that one already. Lex loved it! lol).
@@joesmith8725 dope, sorry I missed it.
I vaguely remember this song from the 80's because I'm an old dude. Not sure they had another hit.
Hi guys there is another led zeppelin song called the rover. great explosion and treat for the ears
One of my very favorite songs!
Pet Shop Boys
It’s under freestyle! But I can understand why some say it’s not ?!?!? To me 80s are not the same with out freestyle ✌️&❤️
It’s not Freestyle. It’s Synth-pop. But it does have some elements of Freestyle and even New Wave. Anyway, this song is ear candy!
A lot of the same audience; myself included ❤️
Lot of people consider this band to be electro, periot
@@neilpatrickhairless you know it’s a mix of different stuff to me ! This song was on freestyle stream. Great song to me 👍
