No, they had several big hits and they had awesome club mixes! I love Information Society! I saw them live at a Dance Club many years ago. Other great songs by them: Walking Away, Running, Think, Peace & Love Inc. Oh, do more Duran Duran please? They are celebrating their 40th Anniversary with a new album. Duran Duran songs: Ordinary World, Planet Earth, Rio, Wild Boys, Notorious, Out of my Mind, Come Undone, Save a Prayer. From their newer songs: Invisible, Anniversary, Pressure Off, Universe Alone, The Man who stole a Leopard... ❤

I love the 80s. We had groups with songs like this that had a fresh new sound and a bold vibe that took us by surprise. The Dream Academy Life in a Northern Town is another example. Enya Orinoco Flow. It was a good time for music and thank you MTV😘

They were massive massive in Brazil and had another three hits there( Repetition, Think and Running ). I remember that they had another album recorded to the South America following as they weren’t very popular in USA or Europe. They have a song called Peace and Love Inc. which is very good!!

I got to see Information Society before this Song became popular when they had a hit called "Running" in the 80's in Latin Freestyle radio markets like NYC, Miami, & LA. They were playing at a Teen club and they were using Ironing boards as their keyboard stands! A very under rated band.

I had to go searching for details on this one as I've never heard it before. It charted at 81 in the UK which explains that. It reminded me of 'Obsession' by Animotion at first and then of Human League. The lead singer sounds a lot like Phil Oakey.

InSoc didn’t seem to do well here in the UK. I doubt many Brits have heard of them. But, yes, they are very Human League like. Mixed with a dash of Art of Noise with the use of samples.

Such great dance beats and samples in their songs (especially Leonard Nimoy as Spock saying the title)! I remember seeing the lead singer's Mad Max style car driving down the road in MPLS/ St Paul a few times back in the late 80's/ early-90's.....

Feel like I’m the only British fan of theirs. Discovered them by just looking through all the American bands in the 80s because so much of our British stuff dominated the charts, I wanted to find an American synth-pop band to listen to, and by doing this, I found these guys.
Their output especially from this album definitely feels influenced by our British synth-pop (I get both Pet Shop Boys and New Order vibes from them).
Good tune! I also recommend the tracks Repetition and Running from the same album if you can find them!

      Or try this one out:
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:American_new_wave_musical_groups
When i was a kid in the early 80s, i listen to college music ( that's what they call it back in those days of new wave music ) and the station 93.7 WLIR ( also WDRE ) in Long Island, NY, is what i listen to at that time. Most of it were British new wave, punk rock, progressive, synthpop, experimental, whatever music they could bring up. Few from Germany or Sweden or Australia. American, on the other hand, were not much. Few were one hit wonders like Animotion, Ebn Ozn, Book of Love, The Knack, Romeo Void and so on. Few of them broke up very early while some still continue, like Information Society. ( Yeah, they got more albums than three ) So the link above should be enough.

I remember back in the day that the underlying message IMO, of this song was about Cold War tensions, “PURE ENERGY” …”DESTRUCTION”… was about the possibility of nuclear war, and that one side didn’t know what the other was thinking…. Just my take on it. Great song and awesome review!!

This lives rent free in a dusty corner of my mind and I'll randomly remember it. It was played quite a bit in my childhood, but I never knew the name until around 3 years ago and it BOTHERED ME. The only reason I figured out what the name was, was because my RUclips Music algorithm spat it at me at random while I was at work.
    I was absolutely delighted.

I agree with Mari down below. The same album has "Walking Away", Repetition, then their very first Single "Running" that got them popular Before this Self Title album then their "HACK" album had "How Long", "Think" which they have many more Hits, but "Still Here", and more were on their 1st 3 albums. I could go on, but the last Single INSOC put out was "I Like The Way You Werk It" which is Correctly spelled.
PLEASE CHECK OUT ANY OF THOSE "INSOC" SONGS. 😎

I'd say they had three other hits, beside this one. Two that charted on the Billboard Hot 100 (follow-ups "Walking Away" #9 and "Think" #28, both of whom have music videos), and one that wasn't necessarily a chart success, but huge in the (NYC Latin) clubs ("Running", and its even more popular remix - no music video, bit of Freestyle classic). I think you'd really enjoy them all.
Also, fun fact; They covered both ABBA's "Lay All Your Love on Me" and Tubeway Army (Gary Numan)'s "Are "Friends" Electric?" - Okay covers, ofc, but the originals are far superior. Still makes for a fun listen, though.
