I believe that Bill Burr's character, Patrick Kuby, was supposed to be the guy hired by Jimmy and Kim in this episode, but he was unavailable because a family member was sick/dying. Instead they brought back Ogg's character and had the interaction end in a way where Jimmy wouldn't work with him again in the future.
Its better with Mr. X though, i dont think Kuby is an expert of stealth and kidnapping. Genidowski fits more for his character. Hes great at impersonating someone.
@user-ex7yq6xq9s Kuby probably could have finessed his way into Kevin's place. We first see him in Breaking Bad impersonating a government agent. There was never a need for violence and kidnapping, which is what ended Mr. X's involvement.
Fun Casting Fact: The construction crew chief is played by John DiMaggio, huge voice actor most famous for Bender from Futurama and Jake from Adventure Time. This is the only time I've seen him in a live action production
The only other time I've seen him in a live action show was on one episode of Mythic Quest, the great show created by Mac and Cricket from It's Always Sunny.
10:20 - We saw Mike doing some basic electronic fiddling in the episode where he finds the tracker in his car. He has also worked with surveillance equipment for years and we saw him messing with the phone wiring at Walt's house while installing a bug. It's not some deus ex machina thing that he knows a little about electronics.
Dunno if you clocked the construction foreman at the start being John DiMaggio - like Steven Ogg, best known for his voice acting work, namely as Bender in Futurama and Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War series. Also, Mike was an impatient inpatient who wanted to be an outpatient.
It’s really cool to see Mike and Gus come to an understanding, which is what of course leads Mike to working for Gus. And while it’s been mentioned already, it would have been cool to see Bill Burr in this episode, as being the first time Patrick Kuby and Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman meeting, but I understand him not doing it due to a loved one dying. Stephen Ogg did a great job though, so there’s no problems in bringing his character back. Great reaction James, hope you’re doing well and this show keeps getting more intense as it goes on. Take care and have a great day!
The foreman was played by famous voice actor John DiMaggio aka Bender from Futurama. Hearing Kim say "I don't need protection" reminded me of her telling Jimmy "You don't save me," and it's such a great character moment.
22:54 Dave Porter did an amazing job with the soundtrack across both shows, and this nightmarish reverse piano motiff is my favorite bit of the soundtrack. I believe this track is Mike vs Gus (though i think it’s a different version of the track) and it gets used again in season 6 episode 2. It essentially becomes Gus’ theme, and I adore it.
This is a great reaction. You have insight because of your filmmaker background that adds so much. I am subscribing and definitely gonna put your breaking bad reactions on while I work. I was avoiding the recommendations for your channel as I already have seen other lovely channels react, but your reactions have that extra insider's view. Keep it up my friend; you've gained yet another loyal viewer 😉
8:24 True love. Rhea Seehorn impersonating Kevin is something I never thought I’d see, but I’m so happy that I did. Also I love the construction montage with Jimmy being Jimmy as always.
To answer your questions about Mike Ehrmantraut (since I'm assuming you've already seen all of Season 5 and are uploading the videos as they get edited): Mike was in Vietnam as a Marine Sniper. Passing sniper school is impressive, since it has a 90% failure rate. Even more impressive for Marines, as Marine Snipers train out to farther distances than Army Snipers. Based on Mike's skillset, I would wager he was 1 of 2 things while in 'Nam. He was either a Raider or he was a Force Recon Marine (both can go to sniper school as their part of specializations). And yes, both the Raiders and Recon are special forces. Given his experience with CQB and solo clearing entire buildings, as well as unconventional attacks and his surveillance abilities? I would wager he was probably Force Recon. Nowadays there is VERY LITTLE difference between Raiders and Recon, since the Raiders were disbanded after Vietnam and then restarted during OIF. They pulled a bunch of Recon marines for the restarted Raider Battalions. But back in Vietnam, there were all sorts of differences between the various groups. Lots of joint operations were happening. Etc. To ensure shared skillsets. So I could completely see Mike learning various skillsets from others during his time in as well.
James should definitely check out the DVD commentaries for Breaking Bad, El Camino, and Better Call Saul. They're available on youtube by a channel called Movies Flicker, and they are very engaging. They would be especially interesting, I would think, for someone like James filmmaking-wise. Just be aware that there will be spoilers at least from season to season, but I wouldn't risk watching the Better Call Saul stuff until finishing the series.
To explain how Mike could build a signal amplifier from scrap to help him call Gus, it's heavily implied that not only does Mike know things like this from his criminal life based on how he handles the tracker, but also when he's talking to the gun seller about the sniper he tried to use on Hector in the desert he implies that was his service rifle. He's likely a Vietnam or Korea veteran on top of being a crooked cop and a criminal assassin/hatchetman.
I watched Diegesis' video today, they're in the second half of season 5, Hank and Walt had their first face off. Watching your BCS reactions had me curious: if Walt was arrested right then and there by Hank, how confident would you be in having Saul get Walt out and off the hook? Clearly we've seen how far Saul is willing to go for a client (and to cover his own ass), how confident would you be at this point? I'd say 65% confident.
Escalating is an understatement. I thought Breaking bad collided for an epic final season but this show is on another level. And it's the ladder half of season 5 that sets all that into motion. Love the reactions.
Crazy thing is that if Walt hadn't killed Mike out of pride, he'd probably just be chillin out in a spot just like that somewhere abroad living out his days happily..
Since this is a new video I know you'll see this comment. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOMORROW YOU MAN YOU!! KEEP UP THE GOOD REACTIONS!! 🎂 (Second Year doing this! Wooo wooo!!!)
It's always funny to me how Mexico is just yellow
LMFAO, right??
That scene with Kim and Jimmy where they’re impersonating Kevin is one of my favourite scenes in the whole show
Max was the name of his partner that Hector killed. The translation of the episode title and the text on the fountain is “Dedicated to Max”
Yup! I figured, I just had a mind fart because the title is literally called that lmfaoooo
The thing that breaks their relationship is....absolutely devastating. And nobody sees it coming. Man this show is FANTASTIC
the way kim says: "well shoot... I believe I would" has me in tears

Would've loved to had seen Bill Burr return for _BCS._
Its better with Mr. X though, i dont think Kuby is an expert of stealth and kidnapping.

He also plays a side character in the first season of Interview with the Vampire (great show btw)
'He's......a sidesitter.' might be the best introduction to Curb you could possibly have wished for.

Side sitting is a reference to riding on a horse side saddle lol

Also plays a great joker
As well as Jake from Adventure Time!

"He's a.. side sitter" is such a Seinfeld thing 😂
So much !
There was actually an entire episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm about side sitting.
That sounds more like Larry David imo lol
Does he respect wood though?
I was gonna post this! 😂
These backstories are brilliant!

You can really hear Jake the Dog at 11:12, Jon Dimaggio is a legend
you gotta remember that mike is a commando sniper from veitnam. his skill set is complete

4:50 Jimmy pulled a Trailer Park Boys on Bender

"Mike, you must learn patience."
"Yeah yaah, patience, when do we learn that?!?"
That bit between Jimmy and Kim mocking Kevin always reminds me of a Seinfeld bit.
3:51 he was also Batir in Barry
8:24 True love. Rhea Seehorn impersonating Kevin is something I never thought I’d see, but I’m so happy that I did. Also I love the construction montage with Jimmy being Jimmy as always.
"What breaks the back of this relationship"
Lol I wonder what breaks it
Lolol. When he said that I laughed out loud.
whatever happens must be mind-blowing.
I love me some BCS, but James… you’re just a fun hang, man haha
10:14 Mike probably learned stuff like this from his time as a sniper in Vietnam
11:34 damn, i didnt know they got The Seatbelts from Cowboy Bebop to do the soundtrack for this episode
Jokes aside, look up "Too Good Too Bad", that tune is a good time

Can't recommend that channel enough.
I was wondering if I was ever going to hear James do his vocalization of the opening guitar theme. Score!

Have you noticed that the opening title shot is becoming more distorted each season?
“I’m gonna have to uhh..ya know.”😂
I watched Diegesis' video today, they're in the second half of season 5, Hank and Walt had their first face off.

The Philly comment -- had been wondering if you were from here/lived here before haha
18:13 "I hope they're not going to reort to planting something...coz i don't think kim would do that" 😬
