Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen was trapped on Dragonstone by her brother King Aegon ii with no way to escape her fate. What was to come was the final showdown between the two main players of the dance of the dragons and bring the war into its final phase. The House of the dragon was crumbling and the events that was about to follow would only cause more damage to both sides of the war.

Hello everyone in 2024 who found this video after A Son For A Son. I just want to apologies and add this is a very old video near 2 years old, i made it when i had less than 1000 subs. Since then my equipment has gotten better and i my voice over has gotten miles better. So please don't judge me to harshly. i am in the process of remaking a lot of my older content to bring it more in line with what i want my quality to be in 2024
Love the old content the way it is! Nothing wrong with bettering it, but don't listen to the bullies! I love your channel ❤
I find it ironic that after all the trouble that Alicent went through to have her children ascend to the throne she watched all of them die and her blood line extinguished right before her eyes

Poetic justice tbh
huh?! didn't you just hear that her grand daughter wed rhenyeras grandson and had children ? and the Hightower's aren't extinct either what are u on about ?
@@thewkndmeltdown they aren’t extinct, but their once great house is diminished, because of Alicent and Otto. If you stop getting emotional in the comments you wouldn’t have these reactions.
@@thewkndmeltdown Jaehaera Targaryen died before having kids with Aegon the third... He then later married Daenaera Velaryon and had 5 kids with her
We can all agree this is all Otto Hightower’s fault. The dude’s lust for power caused this.
And Criston Cole; his bitterness and constant desire for vengeance on Rhaenyra didn’t help. He was a pathetic scorned lover who had some good tactics but ultimately lead his king to becoming crippled.

You can almost feel bad for Aegon II. He watched his children and siblings die, had his body and dragon disfigured knowing that in the end, it was all for nothing his whole life being groomed to be a political piece for Otto and Alicents ambition for power.
I could never feel sorry for a drunk, rapey loon who left his own illegitimate children to die in underground children's fighting pits ffs. 🥴 Lots of people grow up with parents who don't show them the proper amount of love or whatever. Yet they don't commit even half of the atrocities that this little sh*t did. Aegon the 2nd was a terrible human being... and his entire family were nothing more than greedy, power hungry sociopaths, who were fine to kill every one who King Vicerys had ever loved, in their quest for the crown, despite taking vows to honor Rhaenyra's birthright. Bunch of evil c*nts. They made the whole realm bleed due to their betrayal. At least Rhaenyra's "Strong" boys were legitimized, given a house name, and made her heirs by the backing of the previous king. Aegon had ZERO right to the throne. No matter how many excuses people want to make for it.
And what's tragic is that, he didn't even want to be king; he was pushed and manipulated by those around him.
At the end of the day nobody won the Dance of Dragons everyone lost especially House Targaryen who survived but at the cost of most their house and started the extinction of the dragons. Although Daenerys did hatched three eggs but it's only a tiny faction when the Targaryens was at their Apex of their power.

If there's one winner at the end of the dance, it has to be Daemon. His heir sits the iron throne, he lived his life to the fullest. Won almost every battle he fought and slayed Vhagar and her rider in his death.
Daemon would have hated the majority of his kids/grandkids. Aegon III let the dragons die out because he had PTSD (I believe Silverwing had at least a clutch of eggs after the war but who knows because Aegon III never investigated), Baelor became a religious fanatic of the seven which Daemon hated, and Aegon IV needs no explanation. Alicent’s thirst for revenge and bloodlust was the nail in her son’s coffin.
Sheesh...Rhaenera got more timid as the war went on, Alicent got more vicious.
She seemed to think about the effect of her actions more. She should have been given more battle experience once named heir and not treated like a regular woman in the society with expectations to wed and bear children. If she had become more like Visenya this war would have played out differently.
To sit on the iron throne you either need ruthless people supporting you or you need to be the ruthless one. Rhaenyra is not trained to wage war and relies on the men around her a bit too much. She also prevents her children from being more strong handed about things. Sending her boy with the condition that he not fight was bullshit because he ends up not actively protecting himself. She should have sent them both to each location together to discourage ambushes. She constantly under estimates the brutality the greens will inflict because she doesn’t seem aware that they were afraid of what she would do to them when she ruled. They reacted out of fear and she never comprehended what fear can cause people to do. The greens had everything to lose because they just knew she would kill them to secure her lineage despite the marriage offers.
@@MrTaylorAriesoh yeah the same green bs. @@WorldOfWesteros but isn't that what happens.?
@@WorldOfWesteros seems like they want the audience to root for Rhaenys and Daemons side.
The dance started because of personality issues and a lack of clarity. Aegon conquered Westeros but never had succession issues because his lack of heirs beyond Maegor being his second child/backup king.
The dance also bred out the proper warrior in the family for a time and the tendency to be overbearing. The fact that the Targaryen’s did not remove the faith and did not maintain the power they needed to rule besides dragons just kills me. They had enough family members before the dance to fill their own small council and build a concrete line of succession of rulers over Dragonstone, the throne, Driftmark and Runestone.
There is no reason to fight as everyone could have had some sort of power based on their personal skill/preferences..the role of the hand would never have to be given to an outsider either thus keeping the crown all on the same agenda at all times. The Hightowers warped that vision by trying to assert someone specific to the throne knowing damn well that chair is a curse and a burden.
In an alternative fantasy universe the Targaryen’s rule without the dance keeps Westeros safe from the long night with ease. The dead would march South and run into flames, dragon glass and Valeryian steel
That was very hard to read. No joke, is English a second language for you? If it is, that was pretty good! if not though... oh man lol
As George said it was not meant to be
Exactly, no matter the problems within the family, Targaryens and Velaryons should've been the only ones to be bound by blood as the two Valyrian families. Bringing an outsider house like Hightower within the Targaryen Dynasty was a bad decision. Viserys I was too naive to see this
@@jimsty7550why does it matter? It's excellent English
I’m starting to think the iron throne is curse and those seek it for themselves are doom like the one ring.
@Balmug it seems like Aegon was overly dramatic.
The chair represents the kingdom as a whole. Its mans greed and lust for power that is corruptable
@Balmug Viserys is a good man but not a good king. Question had that throne ever been clean?
@BalmugEven worsts dealing with Aegon the Unworthy.
Sad to see how people miss interpreted Rhaenyra, she was forced into the war by the denial of her rightfull throne, then they murdered her son and Aegon threw a feast to celebrate it, even then Daemon was the one that collected the vengeance not her, as the war progressed she lost all of her sons into the war and then by the end got betrayed by her dragon riders and acused of killing her half sister (which she didn't), i don't think anyone in her position would've done anything different after all she went through. She wasn't at all evil in heart, Aegon on the other hand showed multiple displays of sociopathy.
nobody forced her to sire bastards or to consort with her degenerate and mad uncle
She could've prevented her children's deaths by not being power hungry she knew there would be loss and so did aegon but because they're both greedy trash they didn't care who they had to sacrifice
True. If I were in her place, man or woman I'd have done the same thing. Fighting to get back what's rightfully mine.
@@connoisseur1595 then why do we all not take daemon blackfyre's side? The throne was rightfully his, but he went about it as terribly and as selfishly as rhaenyra

im not going to lie making the Velaryons black actually makes it alot easier to distinguish the houses.
to be honest the moment i watched the show with my girlfriend who had enough trouble keeping track of the targaryens in the main show, the decision suddenly made a lot of sense to me. She would have been utterly lost of you had Corlys, Laenor, Laena, Balea, Rhaena on top of all the other Targaryens. It really helps make it clear it a different family.
I think it also served the story better by making it more obvious who the real father was or maybe I should say wasn't? This is the first time I've seen a race/gender swap and thought it was done well.
@@Trey_v3.3 thats whats so frustrating when its done badly because its really not hard to do it right. Like "rings of power" why didn't you just show us what was going on in Harad and Rhun???
That's a cute way of saying you have below average IQ.
The only thing that the dance did to the Targaryens is kill their dragons and make their family weak.
It's more telling that even with the dance of the dragons, the Hightowers remain one of the most if not the most powerful house, just goes to show that had Viserys not crowned Rhaenyra as heir, the realm would've been much more prosperous.
And that's a good thing, isn't it?
You got a smooth ass voice for narrating bro much respect
A clear demonstration of how GRRM makes his characters are and how murky this world is.
Corlys switched sides because Rhaenyra had him arrested because he was protecting his kin. He was bitter because of this as well as he blamed Rhaenyra for his wife's death. He thought Aegon would be better but after Rhaenyra's death Corlys reliased how worse Aegon was. Aegon was self medicating by drinking to dull the pain of his injuries . The pain and even worse mood made him hell bent on executing Lady Baela and Aegon the Younger. He refused on making peace. After this, Corlys and the others reliased Aegon was not going to make a good king.
great analysis. it really highlights how no one really won the dance of the dragons
True. All this cause no one listened to Viserys last command to secure the Throne through Rhaenyra as heir, and both sides went into chaos
It's all because of Viserys stupidity as king I'm glad the throne was killing him
@@thalmoragent9344 - FACTS 😤🐉🔥 Vows meant nothing to House Hightower. Their lust for power tore the realm in two. People might have not wanted a woman to rule... but they would have had to accept it. And we'll never know what sort of Queen Rhaenyera would have truly turned out to be, had she been LEFT ALONE to rule as she was meant to. Instead, we can only view her through the lens of suffering & betrayal, getting backstabbed over & over again. That would turn anyone monstrous. The Hightowers started all of this bullsh*t.
The Last Green council betrayed Aegon ll out of fear of the Old Man in the North, not because they thought Aegon lll would be a better king. Lord Stark saw their cowardice for what it was and killed/exiled all the conspirators.

5:20 Yes, it is so unthinkable for a kingsguard to become a Kingslayer ...
I like the parallels between Vicerys and Aegon 2 (Like father like son), both of them denied the throne to their elder sister (Rhaenys and Rhaenyra), both of them have a weird relationship with their younger family (Daemon and Aegon 3), both of them ended up with single heir who happens to be female (Rhaenyra and Jahaera), both of them were extremely sick until they died, but the only difference being one lived long enough to remarry and indirectly start a war.
I guess the marriage between Aegon 3 and Jahaera in the show would bring so many parallels to season 1, where Daemon and Rhaenyra were younger. Tropes such as this type of marriage should have been done a generation earlier and keeping peace instead of remarrying and having more sons.
First: Rhaenys wasn't his sister.
Second: Rhaenys was never apointed true heir like Rhaenyra, her father died on duty way before that, and her uncle was appointed the new king, when he died his son took the throne through an actual vote, because there was no appointed heir to the throne since both kings died out of the blue and never appointed heirs.
Her nickname of "Queen that never was" was due to the fact she was close to the throne sucession twice (one when her father died and other when her uncle died) but her case was a really longer shot to get her than when the king actually appoint Rhaenerys as true heir.
@@Nobody-su9km I took some liberty to point out the parallels, I know Rhaenys wasn't his sister, but for their relationship of being cousins, it seemed closer.
Also, I wasn't saying it was exactly the same, but it is close enough for me that in Viserys case, an elder female cousin claim was rejected by vote and in Aegon 2 case, an elder half-sister claim was rejected due to personal reasons.
Great video, as always.
Corlys Seasnake, Sovereing-maker. Even Varys could use one or two tricks.
A tragic end tbh. It's a shame how it ended, Rhaenyra burnt and eaten, Aegon II poisoned. Neither claimant outlived the Civil War that was fought over them. Aegon II would officially be seen as the Monarch that came after Viserys and not Rhaenyra but, a short reign regardless.
Leanor was tripping he was supposed to keep the bloodline going! He was supposed to definitely breaking wood in Rhaenyra and having kids instead of the damn doorman! Come on son, you couldn't just at least make 1 kid my guy!? Got to do better
Maybe he really was shooting blank. He seemed to be the top with his relationship with Joffrey, so I don't think it's an issue of not being able to get it in.
In the show he couldnt get it up with Rhaenyra, they tried but he couldnt perform

why couldnt rhaenyra just marry someone who was straight?they did a whole marriage tour for her spoiled brat self & she certainly wasnt shy about going after whatever guy was in her proximity(cole, daemon etc), why is it only poor laenors fault?

I’m more than sure that there are still Alicent’s descendants alive
Yeah people often forget that Aegon had numerous illegitimate children so his blood is still out there. And I mean I’m not 100% sure but it think Otto had some other unnamed sons so his bloodline could have carried on.
He had a son named Gwayne Hightower but he is killed when Rhaenyra takes the capital by a gold cloak named Ser Luther Largent. But who knows if he had another son. At this time there were tons of people in House Hightower
@@dippy8053 yeah he had other sons too, in the book is mentioned that he had more than one son
@@frankx1219 Now that I think about it, in HOTD first episode they said the Gwayne Hightower was the `eldest son’ of the Hand of the King. So that probably means he has more than one.
I love how Seasnake protected Aegon 3 despite Rahenarya betraying him and throwing him in the dungeon
Didn’t he actually betray her first though so I understand where her paranoia came from.
Queen Rhaenyra had offered this Same type union before the war started but greed hampered it so much unnecessary blood was spilt Otto is 2 blame for this
Because Rhaenyra's kids were illegitimate bastards
Rhaenyra offered that marriage in an attempt to have Alicent clean the mess that she willingly made, it was a gain for Rhaenyra and a loss of Alicent.
If you insist on putting the blame on someone let it be on Viserys I
Opinion: I almost feel pity for him because his reign was absolutely miserable. He was unconscious for a good half of it and then the other half he was in constant physical agony and lost all his family members. I almost feel sorry for him but I can’t help thinking he brought it on himself in a way. Surprisingly from reading the lore, he’s not the worst member of the Greens. His mother, Ser Criston Coke, Larys Strong we’re awful. He actually was going to do the right thing but was manipulated out of it. That is where my sympathy draws in because he didn’t want to do it from the beginning and was actually doing the right thing by obeying his fathers wishes unlike the rest of the Greens that betrayed Viserys as soon as he drew his last breathe. In that way I can say he was loyal to his father even though their relationship isn’t much specified in the books. He was probably thinking that in his last moments that if he had not taken the throne then his children wouldn’t be dead and he wouldn’t be a severely burned cripple. I bet most of the Greens in the end we’re experiencing high forms of regret. Especially since they didn’t even win in the end. The war was about which bloodline would come out on top and it was Rhaenyra’s. And to add insult to injury he was betrayed by his own men, not that I feel sorry for him on that, but that’s just pitiful to go through all that trouble to be sold out by your own men and knowing that as your dying your enemy wins because the matter of succession went through Rhaenyra’s children not his. Even though he’s a despicable character, his ending almost makes you feel sorry for him. ALMOST (for me)
That milk of the poppy has to be magical because burns that extensive are so painful opiates aren't enough. People with massive burns have to literally be induced into coma that's how bad the pain is. The show needs to explain a: how the king doesn't end up addicted to the opiate milk after being unconscious under it for a whole year and b: how he could possibly survive both dragonfire and a thousand foot drop while being strapped to a 2 ton animal.

As a non book reader who can’t hold in the excitement for 2024, you did nothing wrong.
1. To go to a channel like yours and not expect a spoiler or at least to be prepared for one is crazy
2. My understanding is the show has changed a decent amount already (Aemond not purposely killing Luke in the show), so who’s to say your recap of the books is a true spoiler. I’m sure aegon meets a similar fate, but who’s to say it’s the same manner or same time.
You did nothing the wrong bro
Long lives king aegon the third
He became a Monster and was put down like one..
Aegon died peaceful in quiet rhaenyra is the one who had a painful death with suffering sunfyre really enjoyed that snack i sumtimes wonder if rheanyra regretted all the bad things she did before death like not bendin the knee to her brother aegon ii
@@barronspears aegon suffered alot after the war with Melys, he even couldn't walk. I think dying in a minute is far better than living in pain for a while
Idk how much more of Fire and Blood part 1 is left, but what are you going to do after it?
i think about 2/3 of fire and blood is covered at this point. After i've covered that than i'll cover the targaryen stuff from the world book which will take me up to robert's rebellion. I'll then maybe remake my early videos as there considerably lower in quality. I have plans to do more detailed videos about each character, battle analysis and probable comparing house of the dragon to the books. So i have a lot planned but not going to lie fire and blood part 2 would be very helpful
@@WorldOfWesteros yeah. Without it your just going to have to be vague about stuff
Chadgon and Chadfyre
Green? Black??? No, I'm team gold
I have never understood the turn-clockes, it’s like they always follow the winning side
Lived 24 years, ruled for 2. Is it even worth it?
rhaenyra ruled for 6 months lol
In my book, the one who deserves to be called the king is the one who fights for his throne, leads the armies himself and does not hide in his court and let others fight instead of him. During the dance of the dragons, Aegon was the brave king who fights by himself. As for Rhaenyra, she cowardly hid in her court, sending others to fight instead of her. Unlike Aegon, she never participated in any battle.. Therefore, for me, Aegon was the true king.
you're not very intelligent, then.
"do you think good soldiers makes good kings?" - Renly
so between a person who's fit to rule and a person who's "strong" (hiding behind his brother's dragon), you go for strength?
rhaenyra is a woman, so it's not really smart to put her to fight other men, especially when her dragon is not a battle dragon nor is big enough to fight any of her enemies' dragons.
Aegon was cruel and didn't give a shit about killing his own blood, while Rhaenyra tried everything she could to avoid blood (she even forgave Alicent and Helaena after she took king's landing and refused to kill them). she was willing to forgive Aegon and Aemond if they bent the knee, while Aegon... well.
@@Nihilanth
If you really read my comment very well you would know that I never said that Aegon was a good king. Both Aegon and Rhaenyra were bad rulers and a reason of their family's weakness in the long run. My comment was about who was the bravest and who was willing to put himself in direct danger in order to secure the throne, and without a doubt Aegon was that person. I don't think I need to explain why I say that, because Im sure that every reader of the novel knows very well what Aegon did throughout the war to win the throne for himself.
@@khlfful yeah, he killed his own kin and tried to hatch an dragon egg by sitting on it, what a brave king.
rhaenyra didn't get the chance to rule so we don't get to say if she was going to be a good queen or not. when she took king's landing, the capital was financially broken due to all the gold the greens stole, that made her short reign look terrible
True
@@Nihilanththe Greens didnt 'steal' gold. They just hid the treasury from the Blacks. Rhaenyra would have spend it all on cake and roasted pigs
I hope they remake Game of Thrones 2030 onwards. Do it right. Go the 15 seasons, Go Grand.
Martin will probably have finished writing by then
@@alex939709 he will never finish the books at this rate. He is an obese old dude who is about to die.
He went just like Joeffry
Besides Otto…this was all Laenors fault….a turkey baster or a funnel would’ve solved all of these issues….
Looks like he is a parallel of Jeoffrey, poisoned too.
Stupid and superficial comparison. Jeffrey was a coward. Aegon was brave
This must be the final season.
Wow Larys Strong help murder Aegon II? How did he turn from green to black? I want to know!
he played both sides of the war.
@@fakeicecream552 wow Larys really didn't disappoint
Hes HotD Littlefinger its not shocking at all
he did not turn black
You know who I hate? Alfred Broom. Glad his name was snuffed out.
so, in the end Corlys proved to be useless, greens didn't trust Velaryons enough to summon mercenaries by sea, and Velaryons didn't have an army to help defend against rivermen, so Corlyses outlandish demands were met for nothing in exchange (not to mention that Alyn have already struck a deal with Aegon, so the greens basically gave in to Velaryon demanda twice, and twice they didn't feel they can rely on them)
have I missed something? because if not that's so stupid
Hope it was worth it alicient
I guess im one of the few greens fans. POV for show perspective only: Otto did take some advantages of his position like most would for his family. Similar to what Wosley did with henry VIII but he was still a capable and good hand. He was honest with viserys. You may not liked he told viserys about rhanerya stepping outside and her tryst with daemon and daemon celebrating the death of the stillborn but that is his duty and it was true. Viserys wasn't a weak king as many blacks seem to view. He kept peace and held the kingdom together. Marrying alicent wasn't a mistake, kings in medieval times need to always produce multiple heirs. Only having 1 kid, can wipe out a dynasty. All it takes is illness. His only mistake was not taking account that once he had boys the will he left and decreed wasn't going to hold up and be respected once he died since there never was a history of a line being passed down to a woman when there are male heirs. He either should have named one of his sons heirs or made rhanerya marry one of her brothers or her kids marry one of alicents lineage and not give any of them a choice.
Ok 😅😥 I havent read the books and only watch the HOTD series. YT recommended your channel. Now Im spoiled because of your video title and banner.
Those hideous wigs on the TV version of the valeryons are ridiculous and completely immersion breaking
Daemons daughters are by far
*THE WORSE* !!!
They look like mops. Brillo pad mops. Laena had the best looking one.
There are shortages for blonde wigs going on, so they had to use fake hair. You sound like an ungrateful toddler. Get over it.
Where can I get this map
What was the clubfoot’s motive? He flip flops so much.
At least in the show it seems like he's trying to further himself, but in the books its been lost to history
Horny
@@keel1237 haha
Larys likely saw the writing on the wall, he knew that if Aegon and Alicent had their way and started mutilating their young hostages, after Rhaenyra had been brutally murdered already, the vengeance of the Blacks would be even swifter and more compensatory in brutality.
LETS FUCKIN GO!!!!
I know rite? Lol
It was viserys fault. If he just married laena or he let daemon married rhaenyra the realm would be at peace
Whatever happened to Alicent at the end ?
She survived the wars itself and dies of a winter fever couple of years later whist being kept as a prisoner
@@WorldOfWesteros Seems like a fitting end. Withering away like physically like she did morally.

Finally... good riddance. And now The Hour of the Wolf is coming yee and then the reign of Aegon ''the depressed boy king'' Targaryen
That war was just a waste of time, no one can be considered a winner here !
Can’t wait to see Aegon II DIE!
It’s hella crazy that this video of Aegon II has 171 K views as well as the Aegon III video 😮
The two years of his Reign was just miserable
AEGON II killed Rhaynera right
Yup, he had her fed to his dragon
That's Aegon ll ( Aegon the old) and Rhaynera's Aegon, is the young.?
@@shaunpaulsen7960 yes
I Agree
I think he poisoned himself.
He probably did
Yeah kingsguard never kill their king.
And still got the chopping block together with shadowy Clubfoot
Why would a team black supporter lord corlys say long live the king for aegon ii?
To be honest corlys character decision were kinda weird.
It was not clear in the books, house velaryon got so much shit from rhaenyra that fans are still bewildered on why he supported the blacks. The fan theory i encountered was that corlys was only following rhaenys and once she dies, he was only in it for duty and slowly dipped out when he noticed it isn't working out.
Wait I thought Aegon III married Daenera Velaryon and they had Baelor the bless
This is aegon II big man
What the fucking relationship they have

Wonder how the youngest son of Alicent died? There has been very little mention of him so far.
He died at the second battle of Tumbleton.
@@velvetalex4766 thanks. Just read the tale.
So he's basically Jofferey baratheon(lannister)
Kills our fav main character. And gets poison

I question the sanity of anyone who read that book and considered Rhaenyra their fav main character. Like I have seldomly come across a more spoiled, entitled, dumb and unlikeable brat than her. She had zero positive admirable traits making her worthy of the throne.
I m pretty sure it's daemon who killed aegon ll because his body was never found and he is master at hiding lol
😂 did they find anybody I wonder how as am sure they didn't have scuba diving back then😂
And so perished Aegon the Usurper. But at what cost?
pretty much all the dragons, tens maybe hundreds of thousand soldiers and civilians alike. some noble house like hightower, velarion and lannister losing their heads or succesor some houses literally whether you sided with blacks or greens you lost a lot .
What happened to Alicent?
Lived out hating the color green and remembering helena and died of a fever.
Kinda cool to think that all these people are descendants of Daenerys and Jon Snow
Lol they are ancestors not descendants😂
I feel like you should rewrite the name of this video. I didn't read fire and blood because I didn't wanted to spoil myself on HotD. But now I know that aegon 2 will be poisoned. And I didn't looked up this video or I'm not subscriber to your channel, it just popped up in my flow.
