Thanks Paul. We like how you have put in Part 1 and 2. You are clever 🙂. Also we always mute the adverts. Even when adverts are on TV my mind automatically switches to something else! 😁. I would never do well in an advert test!

Yes, it is a bit like how they used to do it on 'old style' TV, I think.
I just find it a bit annoying when RUclips puts ads in at random in the video - and lots of them, if you let it!
Hope all is good with you,
      Take care,
      Paul

Glad you enjoy the videos and thanks so much for the feedback regarding the ads - it is very useful for me to build up an overall picture of viewers' experiences.
Yes, the money from ads isn't much, but does help to cover a lot of the travel expenses.

Hi Paul. Thanks a lot for the shout out. Much appreciated mate. Lovely place you visited in this vidro. There are so many places to visit just in our small part of the U.K. We really are spoilt for choice. Regarding the adverts on RUclips. I used to curse at the tv everytime I watched RUclips. But I was determined that I wasn't going to pay but in the end I realised that I don't watch any tv channels anymore just RUclips so I bit the bullet & done a family subscription. We pay £20 a month which isn't too bad for the three of us in our family. Take care mate. 😊😊

Yes, I don't watch ordinary TV any more now either - I actually prefer listening to the radio and Spotify, as well as watching my favourite RUclipsrs of course (when I get time!).
You are right - one of the reasons that I think I'll never run out of places or ideas for my videos, even though I have returned to some places that I particularly like more than once (this being the case here). We are indeed lucky.
      Happy filming and editing!
      Cheers,

I'm a great admirer of your channel Paul and your monthly vlogs are a work of art. I feel humbled having been mentioned on your channel. Thank you 🙏. I know only too well how busy one gets with the work involved editing and planning for the channel. This video again is such a well put together record of your June adventures. I'm enjoying being part of your June. The stained glass windows are beautiful. I so enjoy church visits. I'll be popping over to Louise and the others later this afternoon. Great sharing of RUclips friends. I've still got to watch the Bude video. We loved Bude. I'm envious about the ad planning possibilities you have. It works like a charm for me ( MacBook), Have a great weekend doing what you do well. Best wishes, Anita 🇳🇱🙋‍♀🥝

I seem to be very behind with everything at the moment (not just YT!); sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
That's very kind words - thank you! I do enjoy making the monthly vlogs, and I like visiting new villages in the wider Westcounty and learning about them.
Louise has put out some excellent videos recently.
Yes, once you get to 1k subs and 4,000 watch hours (I don't think you are far away from that - hope you get there soon) you can choose whether to have ads at all, or not, or just at the start and end, or in the middle as well, and how many you want. I hated it when YT was putting loads of ads everywhere and not getting any revenue and them putting too many, I felt, in the videos too.
      Thanks so much!
      Take care,
      Paul

Hi Paul. When you do your Bristol docks walk please remember there were 3 lines into the docks. line one came off the portishead branch at Ashton junction and went to Wapping wharf coal depot, behind the M shed and across the Cumberland Basin to the large goods shed, which is where the Aquarium and surrounding areas are now. Dad remembered that this line ran behind his aunty and uncles cafe in Hot Wells road where he watched the steam trains out of his bedroom window. The other was a branch out of the goods yard to the city side of the old station. This crossed the temple way on a metal bridge and headed to St Marys Redcliffe and terminated at Avonside wharf. The railway used to follow the feeder river and we at the Severn Valley Railway used it to provide a steam service back in the 1980s with the Ivatt 46443. Hope that helps. Caroline

      That's very useful information.
I didn't know about the SVR providing steam on it in the 1980s - fascinating! The SVR is my favourite heritage (ssh! don't tell the others!), but I am fond of the DFR and GWSR as well as the WSR too. Hope to be back on both the SVR soon. I remember mum & dad saying you used to (still do?) volunteer on the Severn Valley Railway.
I think there are remains of a tramway or trams around or at the back of St. Mary Redcliffe church in Bristol too, so I will try and check that out.
Always great to hear from you.
      Take care,
      Paul

Yes, I have noticed that in your videos. It is very good to do it that way. I know and fully appreciate that other RUclips Creators need to maximise their RUclips income, so they may need to have the maximum amount of ads. I am just trying to strike a 'happy balance' of some ad revenue to just cover travelling expenses when making videos. It isn't my primary source of income. I am trying to find the best way, so it isn't too intrusive, which does tends to happen if you let RUclips put them in automatically during the video.
      Thank you for the feedback.
I will have a look at your Braunston video in a bit. I look forward to it.
      Cheers!

Thanks for that update, Paul. I notice that you now have parts to your videos, but i haven't noticed any adverts yet. That always annoys me when they have adverts that suddenly cut someone off mid sentence! Its even worse when its a music video!

    • @westcountrywanderings
      @westcountrywanderings  Месяц назад +1

Hi Michael - yes, completely agree, and that's exactly why I am trying the new way of doing it. If it is a short bite, there won't be any ads in the middle of it, and probably 1 set of ads in a 20 min video, 2 for a 30 min video, etc. RUclips can often auto try and put in too many - if you let it!
Some will get ads during the fades from Part 1 to Part 2, but not everyone will get an ad every time, due to the way RUclips's ad algortithm works. At least when there is an ad there, it won't be a sudden jump!
      Cheers,
      Paul

Hi Paul, what a month June was, a superb collection of videos, I missed a couple which I will catch up with soon.
You always choose great locations for your vlogs, this was no exception and brings us nicely into the geopark way. From what I understand this would be complimentary to Sabrina as these are the hills that line the valley. I do enjoy my geology so I'm looking forward to this already!!
I had noticed your division into different parts, Imagine inventing a jingle to put on as you fade out into the add break (Coronation street style) I'm willing to have a go blowing the trumpet😂😂😂.
Joking aside, typically I will watch in the afternoons and evenings on my mobile and during the day using an old laptop whilst I'm working. I have seen these breaks really upset the rhythm of the video but I couldn't recall if it was on yours or not. I seem to get "attacked" at the start of end of yours. To be honest as long as you don't get the hard interruptions then I'm ok with what they do. I appreciate that somehow they have to make a business out of it. It always beats me why advertiser's think they're worth doing, that said I do have find memories of some of them (For mash get smash!!, A second class return to Dottingham - tunes, The hovis ad). I certainly wouldn't pay to avoid them (this will anger the RUclips gods, so I expect divine intervention now!! I have a feeling that each persons experience will also depend on what kind of online profile is visible to RUclips. I fully agree with your decision to monetise and hope it provides you with some control over the advertising.
I have also seen recently something called book marking, which helps you navigate each video. This has worked well on Tweedy Pubs where he describes historic pubs, mainly in London but elsewhere too, fascinating history.
    I hope this helps
    All the best!!
PS: A Dorset recommendation would be to go to Swanage and walk up to Old Harry Rocks.

      Great comment!
Yes, you are right - the Geo Park is like a hilly version of the Severn Way, but goes through different villages, although running in effect, parallel to Sabrina. Should be good views from the hills too.
I think RUclips is now auto generating chapters - but I don't think this works on the day that the video is published - it can take a few days to work, but can be very effective. There is a way of adding them prior to publishing, but it is rather fiddly, I understand, but I will have a look at doing it if I can - great suggestion!
I like that jingle for the ad breaks! An alert to put the kettle on!
      Cheers David,
      Take care,
      Paul

Thanks Paul. You asked for comments on the advert breaks: I noticed them from the off & I think they are a very good idea. They don’t leave you hanging mid sentence (as you pointed out!) but they do vary in number. I haven’t been making notes but some have just 1 advert break- this may be to do with the length of the video I suspect. Anyway I welcome them as sometimes I too take a break when I see the advert coming & come back later to finish off!🙂
That area looked very interesting- probably because I don’t know anything about Worcestershire- I think your decision to walk the Geopark Way will be interesting to watch. I know there is the 3 Choirs Way - unsure if that’s the correct name but a walk taking in the 3 Cathedrals- I think they fall into your area??

    • @westcountrywanderings
      @westcountrywanderings  Месяц назад +2

      Thank you Diana!
Yes, everything is Three Counties (Herefordshire, Gloucestershire & Worcestershire) around here! We have Three Counties plumbers, heating engineers, window companies, etc. As well as the famous Three Choirs Festival (and, as you say the path that links the three cathedral cities), there is also a Three Choirs Vineyard at Newent in Gloucestershire and a Three Counties Show (annual country show) at Malvern in Worcestershire. There is also a cheese so named, I think, too!
The three counties have a lot in common, largely rural, and of a somewhat similar appearance, and dominated by their respective cathedral cities at their heart. Out of all the whole of the wider Westcountry, it is where I feel most at home too (unsurpisingly, as I grew up around here).
Thank you so much for your comments regarding the ads and newer format; from what I have received so far, I think I will stick with this way of doing it.
Hope you have a great week.

@@dianarolph1770 Yes, the Cotswold parts of Gloucestershire are quite well known, but there are many parts of The Three Counties which are not at all well known. I am less familiar with some parts of Herefordshire, particularly out to the far West, where it borders Wales, but that is on my list to explore more in the future. I'm afraid to say I don't know Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire or Buckinghamshire at all - I think I went to Buckingham once (is that the county town?) for reasons I cannot remember! Thanks Diana!

Hello Paul - greetings from Poland.
What adverts? I've never had any problems with adverts whilst watching your videos. I've checked through the last 5 - nothing, nowt, zilch!
Another superb Monthly Vlog and thanks for the mention. It's great to hear from contributors all over the world who like me, really enjoy all of your superb videos.

    • @westcountrywanderings
      @westcountrywanderings  Месяц назад +1

      Thank you Michael!
Out of interest, do you have a RUclips Subscription?
I only ask, as this is the sort of feedback that is useful, because the number of ads, if, indeed, there are any at all, various wildly from viewer to viewer and what sort of device they are viewing it on, and where, and what time of day it is.
I watched another RUclips Channel recently on a 'Smart' TV and there were four ad breaks in the first ten minutes, which I found a little off putting. RUclips tried to auto place 6 ad breaks in this 30 minute or so long monthly vlog, before I changed it to just the one on this occasion. I think that they have increased amount of ads recently (as indeed they have on 'ordinary' TV too) because ad revenue has decreased. I realise more ads means more revenue, but I am very conscious of the viewers overall experience, especially as they are investing their precious time watching my channel, when there are a gazillion other channels, TV and films to watch out there.
I have had some feedback (but not that much) from viewers saying that they found the ads offputting, so I thought I would limit it to how many there are, and, if in doing this, it would be useful exercise. I really doesn't take very long to do.
Yes, the GeoPark Way is an interesting, and, I think, a little known route, linking up some well known places. Unlike The Severn Way, it is a very hilly route, so it should afford some good views.
That is a good option to consider re:guide book. There are a couple already on The Severn Way - but I think that there is nothing on The GeoPark Way.
Glad you enjoyed the vlog - always great to hear from you.
      Take care,
      Paul

The ads only occur once or twice during the video and only last about 5 seconds. YouTobe subscriber? Do you mean do I pay - the answer is no. Do I follow channels to which I subscribe? - the answer is yes - 39 in total

@@michaelpilling9659 Ooh, I haven't heard of any of those channels, apart from Paul W's. I will have a look at some of them when I get a moment.
Sorry, yes, I was just referring to the RUclips Subscription facility (paid monthly fee), because subscribers to that should not see any ads, hopefully! I know that some of my subscriber are subscribed to that (according to my YT stats), but I have no way of knowing who, of course.
I seem to see far more ads when I watch other RUclips channels, to the point where it often ruins the flow, and I have had complaints about my channel in the past too. But, like I say, Google Ads tailor it for each invidivdual viewer, and what they are viewing on, and where.
That's very useful feedback Michael - thank you.
