Amber manipulated that whole situation. Clueless teens who think they know better than parents. And removal of a child for a slap after she bit the guy and was hitting her mom ... is ludicrous. She deserved a slap for that. Sadly she passed.
Wtf there was no marks on her mom and did you see how depressed amber looked when she was back home? How did she get those bruises and a lump on her head? I wonder how she died, I wouldn’t be surprised if she turned to self medicating or an abusive relationship. She may have had anger problems (learned obviously) but hitting your kids in the face is *never* the answer in my opinion.
But... imagine something was to happen to those boys because they made the assumption it was safe for them... then people would be howling about how the system failed the children and CPS should have stepped in. It's a rough situation and honestly no one really wins. In the end it's all just lifelong trauma for everyone.
@@Dexy83That was raw emotion not cruelty. As a CPS INVESTIGATOR the worker for this case was piss poor. I work in Illinois our rules are same from state to state. So many rules and assumptions were made by the worker immediately. Physicals are immediately done on children when they are removed from home. Didn’t happen in this case. No doctors report showed physical abuse of that 13 yr old.
Somebody smacked that child, well somebody needed to...letting kids get away with anything and everything when they don't get their way, is why you have out of control teens and adults. Another example of CPS overstepping their authority.
The kid got mad because she got discipline so she called CPS because she don’t like rules or to be disciplined kids like that. Just want to run the streets.
The fact that the dad was willing to go to jail to stop his other kids from going through the trauma of being taken by dss speaks volumes about the kind of parent he is.
CPS is a criminal organization in my opinion. I’m not basing my opinion on just this case. I have a friend I’ve watched them steal her child for less than a slap. But the kids that have been tortured and it’s been reported to CPS. Those cases are always the ones that have slipped through the cracks or their too overworked!
I read that differently. Only seen the beginning so far. But the fact that dad was getting upset and shouting and obviously agitated and the child in the room didn’t even take a moments notice. Indicates that it’s typical behaviour. Then telling the child he might not be able to come home; abusive.
This is so fucked up they’re taking the other two kids to jail and didn’t even give the father the opportunity to leave the house so they could leave the kids there. That’s what I would’ve offered that was me in the situation and I was a parent I would ask them why are they taking the other to the jail either take me to jail or I will move out until this is settled. There is no reason to take the other two kids to jail and scar them because as we know foster homes are not good places 85% of them are not good prices I know a black woman from Guyana, who was a foster mother Who treated her foster children like paychecks they had three meals to snacks three outfits of clothes and they were little slaves. They would never get a toy at Walmart or target but her grandchildren would she would say that she only gets enough money from the state for food clothing and Shelter and nothing else she cannot afford any extras. It really pissed me off and she would constantly tell the little kids to go play in the room go play in your room go play in your room go play in your room go play in your room she did not keep them in there like prisoners , but for the most part they played in their room, she did not physically abuse them she did not verbally abuse them, but there wasn’t any love or comforting them However, that father should have never told that child that you can’t live with me anymore you have to go somewhere else that was so wrong. What I find, compared to other countries, especially Europe, America has never Ratified the UN Rights of the Child, which requires certain laws to be in place to protect children. One of those laws is to forbid the use of corporal punishment in the home. I work with a now 15 year old disabled boy who has primordial dwarfism who was locked in a dog cage from age 2 to when police found him at age 6 1/2. 2 days before he was found, he was severely hit on with a belt which broke his arms, legs and his pelvis in multiple places. To the courts in Washington state, the courts require victim testimony and a disabled person is considered an unreliable witness in court. His mother only received a 220 day assault 4 DV conviction in that case. A new case involving her in Idaho is resulting a life sentence of child abuse in that state.

We obviously don’t know all of the details and that’s why it’s hard for these things to be documented and put out to the general public without context of every moment of their lives being filmed. We don’t don’t if there was further abuse etc. With that said, all things in this documentary point to a parent doing their best to save a teenage hormonal child from themselves. Breaks my heart that amber passed away at a young age. I can relate to this because I had the same thought process as a teenager that I knew everything, hated my parents and that caused an immense amount of stress on their relationship. I thank god that I had a “come to Jesus moment”. Before it was too late. My mom is now deceased. She passed at 47. I went through this when I had custody of my niece. I became done with the situation. We can’t stop teenagers from being physical or being violent. What do you do? Give them up. I was asked to take her back after 3 months. Hell No!!!! She went to group homes and was thrown out of them, too. With her incident she lost her whole family
LOL, at 41 its a bit late in life to have kids, and look at people my age who's kids are graduating or graduated and thinking of all the lost time from not having any kids. Its kind of one of those catch 22 things, could have been great having kids, but maybe not.
I was treated like her, as if I was “rebellious”, completely discredited as an unimportant child. I was beaten for the last time, kicked out, then reported as a “runaway”. It wasn’t “discipline”, my father was mentally ill, and the grandest manipulator. He forced me to take his drug prescriptions before he’d let me leave for school, played with my mind, would forget things and call me a liar, would imagine things in his head and punish me for them, even changed into his military uniform in the night sleepwalking as a retired veteran. He attacked me out of nowhere often. He was CRAZY, period. He was protected by strangers, and I was stepped on like trash. The treatment a child is given is so disrespectful in the system, as a liar or brat. It makes you give up on asking for help. Nobody wants to listen to a kid, adulthood is power. It makes death and juvy look like a real solution to your problems.
@desyxd4400 - wow, very powerful post. Sadly, we've seen similar situations as the one you describe suffering through. Kids are often discredited or simply ignored, and as you say, that can lead to hopelessness. We are always amazed at the young people who make it through life having gone through such unimaginable pain as a child. Your story is a powerful one and we are grateful you shared. You never know who might be reading it and realize they're not alone. We hope your life is better now, and greatly appreciate you being here with us on our channel.
I was in foster home when i was younger. Worst experience of my young life.alot of parents let the kids do and say what ever they want as long as a check comes every month.
Why didn’t the mother say anything when her kids were being taken away? And why did her kids go so willingly? My boys would have fought anyone who tried to take them away.
As a CPS INVESTIGATOR, this worker pissed me totally off. In Illinois before we remove children there must be absolute evidence of physical abuse of a child and a doctor MUST CONFIRM IT. They were NOT allowed to pick a AVAILABLE family member that the children could remain with pending investigation. No safety plan was made, where was the supervisor to assist in situation. I saw so many red flags done by this piss poor worker it gave me a migraine. She should have been honest from the beginning of her contact with the family. She created a hostile traumatic environment for the kids. I’m so upset that she has the audacity to be a CPS INVESTIGATOR. She didn’t interview the boys at all, I’m so confused. Yes we have authority to remove children from abusive situations BUT WE MUST HAVE PROPER EVIDENCE. 13 yr olds lie and manipulate so I wouldn’t believe her right out. The doc would have to tell me how she received bruise, if it could have been self inflicted, etc. SHE WAS POOR REPRESENTATION OF KNOWLEDGABLE INVESTIGATOR. No supervisor present or called during interview. Chile what a mess.
@slayingbullshyt8010 - we appreciate you watching and commenting, especially given your profession. When we filmed this story 21 years ago, so much was different with Indiana's CPS system. Since that time, CPS has changed the way removals take place, and they now center their work on family mediation sessions instead of removals. This video is actually used in training sessions to look back at the old way of doing things and what went wrong (and in some cases, what went right, such as getting critical updated information from the family). We greatly appreciate you watching this video and taking the time to comment!
The fact that people are saying that the girl deserved what she got are disgusting. What happened to her was abuse did you ever think she was lashing out because of her step dad hitting her and her mom defending her stepfather. I don’t blame the girl at all.
13 year old Amber wants to have a job at 14 and get her own place at 16 and even mention buying a house,........My God where is this going....... I CAN relate to her coz this is like watching a re-run of myself at 13 BUT my issue was my stepdad telling me what to do. THAT I could not handle. Im 58 now so thats long gone but me wanting to get out of my home back then only led to misery and tragedy. Okay, Im gonna try watch the rest of this mess. Norway.
I know it’s hard to see this, but I had a niece 16 that had a baby. He boyfriend was an addict. I went to see her when he was born. Her little apartment was loaded with flees. I took her home from the hospital with son. I couldn’t leave him in the apartment. She wanted to sleep. I ended up with him and taking him five hours away with him. When she couldn’t pay her rent so I brought her home with me. Long story short. I called CPS and them come and see her, talk to her. She wouldn’t wake up and come meet her. She went back to her boyfriend and I raised him four years.
Amber is quite a minulaptor teenagers are quite a handful and will do and say anything to get their way I raised two it isn't easy hopefully this family gets back on track
No doubt the kids are actually more likely to be abused by the so-called 'carers' once put in the system, than with their parents... here starts the terrible cycle. They really do need to be more careful about when removal is warranted.
Wouldn’t it be better not to tell the girl when she’s going to have to do a drug test…..?!? And all the God talk from the creepy Counsellor during the family counselling is ridiculous.
Think what you will, being a kinship family member who took kids in. CPS will manipulate, then once the kinship stands up to them all the sudden the kids are reunited with their parents!
God bless her may she continue to rest in peace 🕊️....but she was living in another mind set... wanted to be to grown up to fast...and this kind of behavior can ruin people lives 😔
Indoors is where you should be maybe a movie with parents not friends they get you in trouble. Your to young to be running the roads specially with things going on out there.i think she sees foster care isnt going to give her an inch she will soon want to go back home where she should be. My opinion.
It appears the girl thinks but being in foster care she will do and get what ever she wants. Some foster care people are crap and only does it for the money. I feel sorry for the parents.
You know who doesn't get paid? The parents! I don't understand what it's implied how much trouble for the social worker and judge and blah blah, but that's their job! Umm it's not in the best interest of the children to be removed even from an abusive home with their natural parents, and the rules of evidence don't apply in family court, not to mention how they're 6% more likely to die while being fostered then had they been left in a negligent and or abusive home, and duh there are supposed to be very few exceptions, but hear say and a 13 yr old having more rights than her parents is stupid!
That teenage girl was the cause of all the problems she's a spoiled little brat that never got her way and I wish the parents would have sued that county for taking those other children
Amber may not have a lot but she was still a big brat and she hurt her family, she probably thought she was doing her brothers good, but she ended up causing her family a d baby brothers more harm then good, I wonder what drugs she was taking that claimed her life
Foster Care needs reform. In Los Angeles over four k children. Half of them can’t even read and write. Social workers main job is just placement period. Most of them don’t graduate high school.
Those kids are finally in a foster home with people that are paying attention to them, & treating them like kids. You can tell that the piece of shit dad was hurt & surprised when his own son said he didn't wanna go back home with them.
Such a tragedy that Amber passed away. She was abused by her step father, which undoubtedly affected her psychologically, much though some good people in the system tried to help her, very sad!
Because suitability looks different to everyone. And finances ebb and flow. Many families are broke. It doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to be a family.

I was asked to take her back after 3 months. Hell No!!!! She went to group homes and was thrown out of them, too. With her incident she lost her whole family
That is one manipulative child. 😮
That got away with it.
Just never have kids , life is tough enough!!!
🤣🤣🤣
So true
LOL, at 41 its a bit late in life to have kids, and look at people my age who's kids are graduating or graduated and thinking of all the lost time from not having any kids. Its kind of one of those catch 22 things, could have been great having kids, but maybe not.
She’s acting out and needs to be in a juvenile center
Absolutely!
Girls never had a physical!!!???? Her mothers never had that done!!??? The mom doesn’t care.
I think it's more of an ignorance situation... but that's no excuse! In fact, I'd call it 'willful ignorance' in this case.
Mmmm what if everytime it wasscheduled she refused to go, or ran away, or started being difficult, she was legit the issue.
She got what she wanted her step dad out
I was treated like her, as if I was “rebellious”, completely discredited as an unimportant child.
Been there done that.i was lied to about how long i would get them back.
its so sad Amber passed away..what a waste of life !!!😔😔
Sad
@leesaxton667 - very sad. :(
@@CalamariProductions it breaks my heart when I hear that a teenager acts up and the parents don't want to do anything especially here in Tennessee
Why is this mother not kicking the step_father out of the house
@@CatherineRothe-xb5wr that's what I was thinking to any good parent would kick the other one out and want hesitate about it one bit
Amber has a rude awakening to think she’ll be able to live on her own at 16 .
Sadly she Passed
@@gabby20 No ! How did you find that out ?
She had a baby at 16 tho.
RIP Amber.
The brother ended up in prison for manslaughter & Amber died from unknown causes 💔
He has a bad temper i see that but i don't think he hurt his kids.
Seems like this lil lady just doesn't want to be at home 😕
I was in foster home when i was younger. Worst experience of my young life.alot of parents let the kids do and say what ever they want as long as a check comes every month.
Why didn’t the mother say anything when her kids were being taken away? And why did her kids go so willingly? My boys would have fought anyone who tried to take them away.
You can tell she's very used to not saying a word in fear of getting her ass beat.
Exactly what I thought
This child took advantage of the system
Kids are out of control. All discipline has been taken away. They are told they have rights. No wonder kids are out of control
She’s a horrible social worker.
Should have kicked them out. No warrant.
Most of them are.
Amber just wanted her own way.
I agree
He is using all the abuser's classic lines
Yes!!! The people that think he is a good dad do not have the ability to recognize abuse
Yes she does. I understand how it feels.
The children can and will lie. Department of children and families always believe the children.
That's true! I lied to not be taken & put into the system. Everything they stated, was fact. I knew it, had to look out for my own well being. 😢❤
@@dova215wait.. so you were the 13 yr old being referred to in this video?
@nachowifi9674 No that's not me. But at the same age, I was questioned by CPS. 💞
@nachowifi9674 - sadly, the girl in this documentary died last year. Updates are at the end of the film.

Suicide?
The fact that people are saying that the girl deserved what she got are disgusting. What happened to her was abuse did you ever think she was lashing out because of her step dad hitting her and her mom defending her stepfather. I don’t blame the girl at all.
You look like you would pull the same crap that this girl pulled!! I feel sorry for you!
@@mtnmama5235 and I feel sorry for ignorant people like you lmfao you think I give a shit Lmfao I don’t
Norway.
i cant believe the all those social service people were so easily manipulated by a child.
The first mistake was bringing in CPS. They always think the worst. Kids do lie.
Seeing Lester Holt without glasses is weird
God bless her may she continue to rest in peace 🕊️....but she was living in another mind set... wanted to be to grown up to fast...and this kind of behavior can ruin people lives 😔
Indoors is where you should be maybe a movie with parents not friends they get you in trouble. Your to young to be running the roads specially with things going on out there.i think she sees foster care isnt going to give her an inch she will soon want to go back home where she should be. My opinion.
Why is the child in the courtroom
She wants to do whatever she’s something else
For this father to blame the kids is disgusting! It truly speaks Volumes about him and his character! SHAME ON HIM!
It appears the girl thinks but being in foster care she will do and get what ever she wants. Some foster care people are crap and only does it for the money. I feel sorry for the parents.
Now that dad is out of the way Amber is running her moms house, she is the authority now
She wants to be emancipated…but she doesn’t know what that means….she doesn’t sound bright to me
You know who doesn't get paid? The parents! I don't understand what it's implied how much trouble for the social worker and judge and blah blah, but that's their job! Umm it's not in the best interest of the children to be removed even from an abusive home with their natural parents, and the rules of evidence don't apply in family court, not to mention how they're 6% more likely to die while being fostered then had they been left in a negligent and or abusive home, and duh there are supposed to be very few exceptions, but hear say and a 13 yr old having more rights than her parents is stupid!
The worker didnt evevn put jackets on them andbthen comes back and ask for a jacket has this worker ever yelled at her kids
That teenage girl was the cause of all the problems she's a spoiled little brat that never got her way and I wish the parents would have sued that county for taking those other children
They shouldn’t have told us about calling DSS when we weee kids.
42:00 that male counselor is creepy af.
6:22 she is NOT HIS child. She is the mother's child. i dont care if they are married or not. he shouldnt be touching that girl period.
That judge is horrible, saying what he said to Amber and about the kids belonging to him!
Teenagers always thinking they know what’s best and thinking they grown.
The dad isn't making this easier for his kids
She looks to the left when talking about fighting her mom that’s a tell tell when lying
The dad adjed the small boy if he's ready tocome home and the boy said no
Those kids are finally in a foster home with people that are paying attention to them, & treating them like kids. You can tell that the piece of shit dad was hurt & surprised when his own son said he didn't wanna go back home with them.
I don't have any respect at all for CPS after all I have seen out of them;

Such a tragedy that Amber passed away. She was abused by her step father, which undoubtedly affected her psychologically, much though some good people in the system tried to help her, very sad!
Where did u learn she passed away?
@countryqueen78 her death was stated at the end of the documentary, literally just before the credits, she passed away at the age of 34.
This system is backwards
The parents particularly the dad
The judge was a dick. So rude to Amber and I felt he victim shamed her

You should have to pass suitability tests and a financial check before you are allowed to have children
This is ridiculous lol
@@chloexelyse why?

Because suitability looks different to everyone. And finances ebb and flow. Many families are broke. It doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to be a family.
