I'm not against the Villains' redemption, but I would have handled Bishop's redemption better. Personally I would have shown a hint of redemption in Season 5.
Agent Bishop was probably my favorite character in the 2003 series. He just seemed so mysterious. And he was deadly in hand to hand combat. He was able to hold his own against the Turtles, Splinter, Leatherhead, April, and Casey! Same with the Turtles, Karai, and Hun in a later episode. He even managed to outsmart and capture Karai who was shown to be pretty cunning herself. He was a refreshing change of pace from the Shredder.
@@Ivanculina1 The only thing we never got to see is Bishop vs the Shredder. That would have been a good fight since these two gave the Turtles are hard time.
Bishop is one of my favorite TMNT characters. Even though I grew up with the 2012 series and that weird "Utrom- Bishop", I remember him from the few episodes of the 2003 series I managed to watch. A powerful man who believes that all of his acts, no matter how heinous they are, are for the greater good. Best! Type of villain! Ever! I think he is a worse threat than the Shredder or Kraang. At least they know what they do is evil (in most versions). "I am a bigger picture kind of guy. Besides, I've proven that it would be beneficial if 53% of the world's population simply vanished". Although I don't remember it well, that scene where Bishop was interacting with Splinter and explaining to him his plan to release super warriors onto the world to destroy possible alien invaders stuck with me. This guy was okay with killing dozens of people, just so can be sure that there are no aliens living among them. Let's be honest. When "villain who thinks they're on the side of good" comes to mind, you think of names like Judge Claude Frollo, Bradford Buzzard, Emperor Belos and of course Agent John Bishop.
I liked Bishop's fighting style, when he'd fight a lot of guys at once I remember one of the proposed villains for Next Mutation season 2 was an agent in black who could've been a proto-Bishop of sorts
There are two things I wish they would’ve shown in 2003 show the first Bishop interacting with the ultrons after all, a species of aliens have been on earth for several centuries would be interesting. The second is that we never got to see the Atlantean or their slave races in fast-forward. It would be interesting to see a group that could be considered from earth that aren’t considered human the fact that Cody’s company says works on Terran technology not human could have been used for this
Wow, this is kind of crazy. I just now started rewatching TMNT 2003, and got this video recommended. Splendid summary and deconstruction of Bishop's character. You have earned yourself a follower! Keep it up bro!
I love Agent Bishop, and I think his redemption arc works precisely because it was off-screen. I don't think I would've bought it otherwise. It took DECADES for him to change his ways. And the act of kindness from the alien wasn't instantaneous, either. When that alien came at him, Bishop was fully prepared to die by the sword, so to speak, not be saved. And he says that "try as he might, he could not erase the incident from his mind." Because I believe he DID try. You don't commit such war crimes on a regular basis without some way to make you sleep at night. I do think he tried to brush off that act of kindness repeatedly but what made him change was that he couldn't, in the end. And with such an expanse of time, there's so much room for speculation. We don't see the sleepless nights. We don't see what happened to that alien subject after they both made it to safety. Did Bishop thank him? Kill him? Set him free? We don't know. There's a looooot of history there and progress that Bishop has already been working on by the time we meet him in Fast Forward. And when we do meet him in Fast Forward, he doesn't deny his cruel past. But the turtles are also correct to not easily trust him. What wowed me the most was that Bishop, despite being a good guy, still felt like BISHOP. Even as president, the man is his own last line of defense. He is fully capable of defending himself and springing into action. The turtles, even when helping him, aren't fully convinced he's changed until he actually goes back and saves Stockman at the end of the episode. Actions speak louder than words. So yeah, I think the redemption arc and motivations (protect Earth through peaceful alliances) all do make sense for the character, and only work because of the big time jump.
The way it's shown Bishop changing his attitude just after a single display of kindness looks very contrived and far-fetched. But the idea itself of him eventually realizing the error of his methods does make sense. Also, from the perspective of the future, he represents a classic character type who is good but has a dark past.
I think Bishop. He is an inmortal supersoldier so he outclasses batman in every physical form and since he is inmortal he is also more skilled than batman. Regarding inteligence, they are both geniuses and prep time masters so it could go either way but bishop is more ruthless and probably has better tech. It would be interesting if they make a batman vs tmnt 2 with bishop as the main villain.
I wonder how he’d deal with the transformers in a Tmnt/transformers crossover since they’re aliens? I also wonder if decapitation can take him out for good since impalement failed?
My favorite villain from the 2003 series (but I still can't forgive him for indirectly transforming Donatello into a mindless monster 😢) Fortunately, he contributed in curing him 🙂 Edit: the super soldiers idea was used in Mutant Mayhem too and I was intrigued 🤔
When we see present day Bishop's sadism.... 50 years is a very fast turnaround to regrow a conscious. It might have made more sense if we saw more harsh pragmatism with refined logic driving him towards being a good guy because it was the way to win, with a few bad old tricks up his sleeve. On the other hand, I quite enjoyed seeing the Flash Forward version being just a good leader.
It is a shame that Bishop's redemption arc was primarily off screen but after the episode Insane in the Membrane & a change in who had the show there wasn't much that could be done but taking the show in a new direction. Also without Shredder the Turtles' main villain the franchise often suffers quality wise. Not saying Turtles can't work without Shredder I really liked Rise but the Turtles without Shredder is like: Batman without Joker, Superman without Lex, or Spider-Man without Green Goblin. They can still work as a show but it often seems to be lacking
Yeah 11:43 like we never saw the man who turned into a monster and the Rat king (as I don’t see a video on the 2003 version yet) as they both should have returned in Fast Forward but I think he kinda earned his redemption in the flashback. But it never did explain why Bishop needed a new body if he has been alive for centuries as to why the Aliens did this to him to give him immortality and especially that thing crawling around his body was also never addressed and that are his clones immortal like him especially the Rat king. But don’t you think that Bishop should have appeared in the 2014 and Mutant Mayhem as realistic that the Government would consorted about Mutant turtles and aliens exist in both of those movies? But I guess you would talk about the IDW Agent Bishop and the 2012 version?
My understanding is that Bishop will appear in the new Tales show. We'll see if there is an EPF there. He kind of appeared in the Rise movie, though. I'll be covering the IDW Bishop for sure... I'm not sure there is enough there for a 2012 video, but I can try.
Thanks for watching!
Do you think Agent Bishop earned his redemption?
I can't to seem to find the 2003 Rat King in your channel.

There is nothing more terrifying than a man who will do anything and everything for the safety of others, even the most drastic and horrible actions.
