Phil was my cousin. Thank you for this wonderful tribute. He was an amazing man and exceptional talent that was the driving beat behind some great moments in music.
I always loved the Do ya think im sexy song since a boy and when I saw the video i would always notice him and laugh and wonder about his life he looked cool in the video. So today somehow I found out he passed away last year and that's sad to know 😞 I didn't know his name until today. THU 16JUN22 May Phil Chen your cousin rest in peace and play that funky base thoughout the infinit cosmos with other stars 🌠🎸🌌 #dallas🇨🇱
I have to correct myself that Phil Chen stood out more in the music video Passion You were either looking at Rod or Phile or both 😆 and as a preteen I was like Who is that asian guy what's his life like???
Brilliant and well crafted tribute! 👍I had the dubious distinction of being nicknamed the "Congo Man" by Phil when we went to Carnival in TNT in the early 90s. I won't say why, but he was always a joker. While the rest of us were drinking and partying, he could be found sampling music with his tape recorder right in the middle of Boogsie Sharpe's Phase II steel band. That was his thing. Music. He played a few gigs around Southern California back then with a band he put together called Soca Tremor. As was to be expected, he was wicked on the bass. Phil could play any kind of music - he was a music super fan - it was in him to his core. I always admired his discipline; he practiced Aikido (a veritable master - I believe Steven Seagal presented him with his black belt, but don't hold me to that) and maintained a strict macrobiotic diet. I learned a lot from Phil and was terribly saddened when I heard of his passing. RIP my bredrin. 🙏
