Nice to see your overview of what the OCTA is about. Considering there was already a V8 this is a wasted opportunity to further develop the base models. EV's aren't taking over anytime soon since there isn't even a real hybrid Defender in the US, let alone full EV. Mild hybrid really doesn't do much.

I’m interested in the three valve shocks, anti-swaybar delete and the dynamic on road retrofit to existing L663s…. From motortrend:
“6-D” hydraulic suspension system featuring tri-valve shocks that are probably the most important upgrade of all. The first two valves are the kind you’ve heard of before, controlling compression and rebound damping at each corner. The third valve is what separates it from the likes of the Rivian R1S. That last valve disconnects its damper from the other three as needed. It’s the hydraulic equivalent of disconnecting the anti-roll bars.

Hello Simon!, I missed you on Friday and going by your film, you were there earlier…I was there 12.45 to 1.30pm but it was very busy! Octa…I’m not a fan of the wheels to be honest and that chopped carbon looks rather too much like a cheap wrap but it will be an impressive car to drive. At £180,000 though, it is such a huge premium in price that logically it makes little sense. However…if you really want one and Mrs P gives you the go ahead, then it would be the ultimate Defender…but a super expensive decision. Did you see the green one on the Urban Stand?…I thought that looked rather nice and with the D350 engine, all the Defender you would ever need!
I guess you are there all four days but we are now down in Cornwall again. I will post some pictures if I can get the WiFi to work! Enjoy the weekend…Richard. 😃😃😃😃

We were lucky and managed to get a quiet spot early in the morning before the crowds ! I was not a fan of the Urban one... just too shiny for me. Unless i can be assured of a decent resale on the Octa i cant justify it. Maybe JLR will help me ? The JLR team on the stand were really nice to me... I was worried they would banish me but they actually knew who i was and we had some good discussions.

Yes the JLR Team always are really nice and helpful…I like seeing them each year and I’m sure they are very pleased for the influence you have on their cars. The Octa…listening to onlookers, most were saying it would depreciate “..like a stone” and the thought was what did it really offer over 5.0 V8…technically a lot but. £40,000 premium is very very high. I think that if you only kept it for 3 months and didn’t do any changes to it, you might not suffer much drop but used and enjoyed…might make a huge difference . Will they all sell out fast?..,well no RRS SVA are left so 800 gone…how limited is the Octa? If you do go mad…delete that carbon stuff and I might want to modify or colour those wheels!
I think you could cause a storm and buy that Hang Weng 4x4 which would certainly make a statement…and blow up your wallet with depreciation!!😬😀😀😀Richard

Thursday was the quiet day until about four years ago but now they sell the same number of tickets every day so it is always c100,000 walking about! 😬😬In 1993 it was a tiny fraction of today and one day of rich old men with nice cars enjoying a hill…then Corporate entertaining arrived and made it very different!😬😬😀

@@L663 As far as I know JLR had the choice of either releasing a V8 without a homologated roof rack or wait, so the choice seems to have been obvious. As I enquired at the importer office in my market it is not possible (officially) to fit a roof rack, side ladder or even box (even though you could specify it in configurator with accessories). Interestingly, the same applied to the raised air intake, due to the fact it can "fall off" ;) It is not clear whether it was a question of acceleration or top speed (240 km/h).
To make things funnier I officially fitted the roof rack at the dealership before taking delivery of the car. I drive with a large rooftop tent and there is not the slightest problem.
The only thing I miss is the raised air intake, as there was no option for the right side until the OCTA was released.

It's a mixture of good and bad really, for me it goes too far from the 'swiss army knife in car form' and too close to Chelsea tractor. The old front is certainly nicer and the gloss bonnet panels and carbon tat are right up there with leopardskin seat covers. The wheels are the best part and the suspension sounds good. Also I hate to be "that person" but as someone who has traditionally owned supercharged V8 saloons for years I question the responsibility of making something this heavy and tall this fast. One of the things I've most loved about switching to a Defender is it's dramatically calmed down any urge to drive quickly - it's a good, honest, respectable vehicle.

Think what else you can get for £170,000 or how much that much invested could return annually. Fools and their money are soon parted. It’s a Defender for goodness’ sake! We have speed limits and this sure isn’t a sports car. Save a £100,000 and buy an X-Dynamic HSE.
