Thank you for this video Richelle!!! My FX5 was making gnarly noises and then quit. I added some more sand a few days earlier. Should have unplugged!!!! Discovered it on my way to bed last night. Had nightmares. Took it all apart this morning. Had no clue how to take apart the motor. Probably a cup and a half of sand. Cleaned everything, put it all back togethor and it's working. Thought I had fried the motor! Thank you again for the great video❤
Thank you for this! I just got an FX5 with a used aquarium. I emailed Fluval to ask what I should have on hand for spare parts. Fluval suggested the impeller, which on eBay was $136. So I looked around eBay for used parts and I found the pump assembly with the impeller for $40. I took a chance and ordered it and it works great! So I have a spare set now for a fair price.
Whoa!! You got a good deal!! That's a great price. Sorry to say that you don't "need" a spare impeller. They so rarely break. But good for you for being ready for anything.
@@QuebecCichlides I figured I may not need one but I have nothing to replace one that is broken so finding a spare was just a precaution. I mean really the motor and the impeller are the only moving parts so I am covered incase of an emergency.
Another question, have you ever thought of getting a pre filter set up to pick up the sand etc before the pump? I am thinking of doing that with my FX5.
First video I’ve seen from your channel and it helped so much because I couldn’t find a video that showed me if I was missing something like the gasket for the impeller !😝 you got my like and subscription just cause of that alone 👌👍 Ps I commented this on the wrong fluval fix video and I had to delete it lmao I feel bad for giving somebody a fake compliment 😂
Oh boy I remember having to clean it on the 120gal tank! Dirty work haha At the end of your video your frontosa clearly approve of the new filtering going on in their tank, you could see them smile 😛🐠
I have many other filter repair videos...after watching them a little, I notice that my problem is usually sand in the motor lol : To fix an HOB Filter : ruclips.net/video/IRx1qrf35Vk/видео.html To fix any other canister filter : ruclips.net/video/QlU4EYYm3I4/видео.html
I think my o rings may be worn out causing air to get trapped in .I dont Use air stones just a wave maker. I run 2 fx6s on my tank one has micro bubbles the other has none. It's been an on going problem
my fx4 makes humming sounds and its getting louder. set up is 40g breeder, sandless, liverock with bhc, 3 peppermint shrimp, some anemones and thats it. any idea how to fix it?
You did not fix anything, You cleaned it out. If so much sand is in the filter maybe move up higher the intake pipe inside the tank. Great looking fish you have. Oh and two years, really, wow...
Thank you for this video Richelle!!!

Yes! Thank you 😊 You rock!
How often do you change the filter.
Got a brand new fx6. Install and the pump is loud. Humming noise. Is that normal or i wait 48hrs until its quite?
Fluval makes a good product. Thanks for posting.
Hi Richelle.
How are you?
Awesome video and you did an Awesome job!
Have a great day.
Thank you 😊 You too
@@QuebecCichlides My pleasure. 😊
Thank you.
I have been running fx5 for years, the motor broke, I got a fx6 motor free of charge. Great filter so I had to get fx6 also.
I have FX 5 , I cleaned it already. But once in awhile I hear a grudge from it it. Why? I sound like water trying to go into the canister

Cool I don't have a FX 5. But I still watched all the video.😉👍🏻
Aww thanks :) If ever your friends have one, you'll know what to do lol
@@QuebecCichlides yeah definitely👍🏻

The FX6 LID FITS IN THE FX5?? MY FX5 LID IS BROKEN IN 1 SIDE AND I can't find a fx5 lid!!!!

Watch the video
have you ever experienced micro bubbles with your fx 5 fx6?
Not really. That's usually when there is air in the canister. Either you didn't fill it up, there is a break or a bubbler is blowing into the intake
A prefilter sponge on the intake will cure the sand problem :-)
Thank you 😊
what happens if it doesnt start after you plug it in
Does it make a sound At all
You should replace your impeller, that thing was seriously worn. I saw your output and its super low.
