  • In this 139th Video from Classic Car ChitChat, you will get a chance to see a beautiful and stunning 1958 DeSoto Fireflight.
In today’s video you will see a beautiful 1958 DeSoto Fireflite. This car has been loved and passionately taken care of by her owner. No matter which DeSoto you are a fan of Chrysler Cars and specifically the DeSoto Airstream, The DeSoto K-Sa, The Desoto Six, The DeSoto SC-CD, the DeSoto Airflow, The DeSoto S-10, the DeSoto Custom, the DeSoto Deluxe, the DeSoto Suburban, the DeSoto Firedome, the DeSoto Powermaster, the Desoto Adventurer the DeSoto Pacesetter, The DeSoto Firesweep, the DeSoto Rebel, or the DeSoto Diplomat you will love today’s vide!
In case you are keeping Track this is Video # 139 of Classic Car ChitChat Videos!
I hope my Classic Car ChitChat videos make you smile. I do them in my spare time because I truly love cars and my intentions are simply to honour the beautiful cars I get to see and to really understand the passion and love of the vehicle by the driver (or caretaker as Jay Leno would say) of the car. I also understand too that my videos perhaps lack the polish calibre of great RUclipsrs like: Doug DeMuro, Scotty Kilmer, and of course my favourite Supercar Blondie. I also know that I can’t even come close the quality & finish you get from the likes of Jeremy Clarkson and the boys at Top Gear. I think they use a little fancier equipment than my little iPhone… LOL
    Mission Statement:
My Objective through creating these videos is to shine the spotlight on people who love their vehicles whether it be a car, motorcycle, or even a bicycle…. Bottom line is if it has wheels and you love it then let’s show that passion to the world!
    Equipment Used:
    Camera
Just an iPhone SE (Nothing fancy - which proves anyone can use whatever you have handy to make a video… you don’t need really expensive equipment)
I also use Insta 360X2 which is perhaps one of the best investments I have made and allows me to capture some really cool 360-degree views and also creates a “drone like” effect with the invisible selfie stick attachment.
Gimbal - DJI OM4 - For that ultra-smooth cinematic look. (To be honest... still not quite sure how to use it but one day I will figure it out!)
Audio - Rode Wireless GO II (I gotta be honest… this is really the biggest investment that was made… I wish there was a cheaper option but after the first couple of videos I soon realized that audio quality is important and hopefully better than the onboard mic on the iPhone!
Contact Details: If you have any questions or just want to chat you can reach me through all the (non-traditional) typical ways through the following:
    Facebook - / classiccarchitchat
    Instagram - / classiccarchitchat
    Email - Kevin@ClassicCarChitChat.Com
If you have read this far, then I thank you. As always, I truly appreciate your “thumbs-up”, and by leaving your comments it demonstrates to me that I managed to get you involved and hopefully made you smile. Most importantly when you subscribe to my channel then you are truly acknowledging my effort to help share with others like you my passion and love for “all things that have wheels” and honouring the people who take care of them.
    Thank You
    Kevin

Every time I see the rear of a '57 or '58 Desoto I think of the JETSONS cartoon show. One of my high school teachers had a '57 that was gold with a black top. This car is a beautiful time capsule. In those days you didn't have to see a dinner plate size logo in the middle of the grill to know what make of car it was and all the cars weren't little egg shaped blobs that all looked just alike.

Dan.. so eloquently spoken. No kidding right the number of vehicles on our roads today that more or less are the same. Back in the day the car makers took notice of what people were looking for and had the ability to even change body styles in the same year based on feedback from consumers and dealers. Hence for these reasons and many more.. classic cars are moving works of art.

Beautiful car and Laura is a doll. Thanks for the memory. We had a 1957 Firedome when I was a kid. It's the first car I remember, and I felt attached to it. I was sad when Dad traded it for a new '62 Chrysler Newport. Got over that when we went for a spin at night and saw the Newport's Astradome electroluminescent dashboard. Coolest thing I had ever seen.

Funny, Laura mentioned the firemite. A friend has had one since they were new! Back when Bohemian Rhapsody was brand new, My gal pals and I would take one of our giant cruiser mobile Chryslers, grab a coke and fries and cruise around till the wee hours, solving the world's problems. My classic car that I enter in car shows is a 1996 Cadillac Sedan de Ville, with only 85,000 miles. Anyway, like Laura, I too love the Virgil Exner forward-look design, and my favorite, if I had the money, is the 1960 Dodge Dart. For the '58 model year, I like the Desoto MUCH better than the Plymouth Fury. Despite all the publicity the Plymouth got from the movie Christine, it doesn't have the substantial look that the Desoto has. Especially with its headlights hanging out there under the fenders. Desoto is definitely one of Exner's better designs. The hood on Desotos have a nice deep roll to them. It makes it look solid and strong. Which it is. I like its pushbutton automatic, and ESPECIALLY that ribbon speedometer, which is actually a cylinder, an inch and three quarters in diameter, by about thirteen inches long, behind a quarter inch display. The more it turned, the more color it would show. It's a great looking car. Take care.

Michael, thank you for sharing the incredible insight. I too love the Desoto design more than the Fury. Both are beautiful however and I miss those days when cars had “presence “ and you could tell one apart from another. Unlike today.. they all look the same.

Merry Christmas to you too Kevin. This is a great video to treat us with at Christmas. What a remarkable young lady and she really knows her beautiful Fireflight too. Wonderful to see this level of superior quality of car and a lady who appreciates it. I took a look at the picture of your grandfather's wagon. I am certain it's not a Desoto or Studebaker. I am thinking it is likely a British car or the Holden equivalent perhaps.

Hey classic car this is another great video. What a cool gal and boy oh boy she knows her stuff. The Fireflight although with a smaller 361 motor created enough torque but the larger motor was always desired. My uncle Paul had the pillarless hardtop and it too was beautiful and I have an affection for the car and an old photo i often looked at. He too was a MOPAR guy and took great care of his car.

I believe this car had been owned by my cousin, Omar Shearer in the late 80's. He lived in the Harwood (south shore of Rice Lake ) area & this car is an exact duplicate of his. I remember he had to add a "lean too" on the front of his garage for it to fit. At that time, he had 2 1926 Chrysler Model 70 Sport Phatetons & a 1935 Plymouth. I had a 1939 Plymouth. I now own an all original 1966 Imperial Crown that was originally a Chrysler Canada Corporate car & has spent pretty much it's entire life in Canada.

Make sure you lube that manifold heat riser "weight and spring assembly" on the side of the manifold. Those have a tendency to freeze in either the open or shut position. In fact Mopar even made a special lubricant for it in the old days. I'm sure you can use some present day very thin lubricant spray and work the assembly back and fourth while you spray it. If that isn't working properly the car will run terrible or have hard starting.
