      Try vinegar as well, the acetic acid when combined with iron oxide reduces it to iron acetate more over this allows the aluminium to be oxidised to aluminium oxide thus removing iron rust to create aluminium rust in solution leaving the bare iron to be cleaned and coated with a electro plating, paint, light oil and so on

    Thank you for this video. I have a Huffy Trailblazer full suspension mt bike that I'm trying to learn how to clean, fix & rebuild (after it was left outside all winter long through this most recent Idaho winter...has some rust, but someone told me it should clean up pretty well because it was only outside for one winter). But I'm trying to learn as much as I can about fixing & restoring bikes because I've loved bicycles my whole life & some of the older bikes out there still got some life left to 'em!

    Hi thanks for the video... I have a very old fork which came with a trek 4100 from 2001. The brand on the fork says InSync and the model is called Grind 320. InSync seems to not be around anymore but the company that I think used to make them now makes forks under the name of Spinner. And Spinner could not help me. In all the videos I have seen about taking apart basic forks the allen nuts near the wheel hubs at the bottom of the fork are long bolts. In my shock it is an allen nut which just screws off the thread. I cannot pull the fork off the stanchions. Is there anyway you could help me?

    I rebuilt my forks because they needed a service. I did not lock off the damper side before stripping down. Now I can’t lock off the damper. The 4 mm inside and the 5 mm outside just spin round and round. Any advice? Or have I damaged the damper?

    • @juliangoulding
      @juliangoulding  7 месяцев назад +1

      Classic mistake to make. I still do it every now and then. If you pull it the damper side out till it's a few mills lower that the spring side and the grip it with some pliers you might be able to lock it out there. Otherwise you could try compressing the fork when you are assembling it either with a friend helping or removing the spring from the top to let you compress it. Unfortunately it's a bit of a fight to figure it out but it's definitely doable.

    • @juliangoulding

      @@dominic77999 sometimes I'll get the nut on the end just a couple turn and try grab just above it, on the thread, with a long nose plier and lever it down on the nut while tightening it up. Sometimes that works. Like I said it's alot of f'ing round but you'll get it.

    I purchased a new Aventon Level E Bike in Mar 2022, it has the cheap
    zoom fork, after about 2 weeks the front fork makes a clunk sound when
    going over some bumps and it's
    pissing me off, it does not do this when it's locked out though, does
    anyone know what the issue is? Or even an upgrade fork the would fit
    this bike? Thanks John

    • @juliangoulding
      @juliangoulding  2 года назад

      Yeah it's not the nicest fork. Sounds like you might be bottoming it out, try adding some preload to it, which will stiffen it up a bit. Might be worth just taking it into the bike shop and get them to have a look. We had a similar fork on one of our ebikes and changed it to an air fork and it made the world of difference.

    No issues with assembly for me ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
