Last week I demo'ed a dental vacuum system with 2 motor/pump assemblies and a 60 gallon tank. Installed in 1968, in a psychiatric hospital. The smell was...excruciating. Gave it the old gundy.
We have those lousy LF9 backflow preventers on all of the drench hoses and eyewash stations here at work. They are a guaranteed leak after a few years and so many labs here have had their casework ruined by those things sticking open and dripping. As they fail we’re changing them all over to LF7’s which are still double back checks but without the atmospheric drain (code here says it’s ok). I think T&S makes one too but we generally use Watts.
For Coffee machines by Cross connection standard is required DCAPC ( dual check valve with atmospheric port for carbonators ) , the one you installed LFVB is for none continuous pressure , what it means is that can not be installed under constant pressure ( LFVB - Laboratory Faucet vacuum breaker ) , also poly 3/8" tube need brass inner sleeve if connected with compression fittings , preferable is push in connector, RP for a vacuum pump is fine , cheers :)
Nice to know that it will be good clean water for that coffee !!
Always enjoy your adlibbing! ☺☺ you mix both experience/tips and humor. Thank you.
I remember miss Molly's early times with Steve. She was shy, quite , don't do much now she is a star of the show. Steve's attention and love towards to her made her the way she is now in only few years.
When you smile at the end of the job just say shhhh. At least you could get a cup of coffee! Good video.
Thanks for posting Steve. Looked pretty easy today.
I'm about to have coffee now good episode 😁
We have a backflow preventer on our coffee machine at work but I wish we had a water filter on that machine too.
I can’t believe people thumbs down your videos, must be people who want free telephone advice
Steven Your dog is so cute she's adorable and she loves going with you on jobs .
Also here in NJ you have to use lead-free everything now especially for potable water service. The inspector might ding ya for using an N9 instead of an LFN9 if they’re real ball breakers up there.
Interesting to see the correct amount of tape and “dope” to use on the threads. Thanks Steve.
3 wraps of tape is good + pipe dope
@@stevenlavimoniere hey Steve do you put dope on your compression fittings?
mr crock2095 no need to.
Dope on comp fittings and union faces although technically un needed often does help seal and also makes it possible to open later... just barely a touch.. goes a long way
Canadian Standards Association logo on the backflow preventer, but I couldn't see an Underwriter's Laboratory logo unless there's US printed to the bottom right of the CSA. Not that it matters as the standards are probably similar for both Canada and the US.
Enjoy your videos learning a lot as I watch
Charge the Dentist three times what its worth to make up for what he charges you for a filling.
Thanks Steve for the great videos love to miss molly
I have/had offices in MA...the coffee machines and water coolers have always been connected with plastic, even in Boston where they get up your ass about everything. Only place I've ever seen copper was in our newest NYC office because building management insisted on it. The city didn't seem to care.
Thanks for sharing.
I loved your workmanship.
Can we part numbers?
Hey, cool that town looks like my town, that looks like every town in America, a coast to coast strip mall lined with churches, banks and gas stations.
The time you had the water feed off was enough to start coffee withdraw. I have worked in medical offices and they live on the stuff.
Nice job a little fritz mamma!
I installed a Backflow preventer Pipe due to leak out of vent. keep checking it. Seems like it has a very small small drip. Not enough to fill a cup though. Just hit bottom and evaporate. It’s only dropping from vent copper pipe. Any idea? Should I try flushing it out again? I put new m3 Backflow preventer over weekend. I touched the relief valve to right of it and relieved pressure by opening valve above. Also note that there was paper towels inside the vent pipe and I blew it out.
I guess it's too much work for them to pour in the water like the rest of us. Be sure to charge them to look at it, the part, ECT, also you looked at the boiler so charge them for a external boiler inspection, also charge them to write up the bill. You know the same way the people in the medical profession charge us.
Hey new plumbers. Heres a tip for dope on a thread. Start the thread, then dope it after a turn. Nothing gets squeezed into the line this way, especially in case you use gasolia or metallic compound, both containing lead among other nasties.
Another great job 👍
Well that was a different fix to change things up, at least there wasn't a saddle valve on that supply, maybe time to throw one on the truck. Thanks Steve, enough snow for the trackless last night up there?
1 inch of slush last night .it turned to rain .
7:02 That's my favorite adjustable wrench, opens big and is thin. Channellock made in Spain.
Was that a transformer outside that window?
Wasn’t this the place that flooded ?
Blue monster is hands down the best tape, I can't stand that plastic tubing, it was the cause of a massive flood at my house, previous owner installed it just like this coffee maker, I was gone for a weekend and came home to water coming out my front door and basement was a 2000 Sq ft swimming pool.
Good job Steve
I had my own backflow test and repair business for many years. That backflow valve you showed over by the vacuum pump is a terrible one. After years of working on them I refused to work on that valve and I always replaced them with a Wilkins. That valve you have there will fail if you try to repair it most of the time because it is a bad design.
Hey Steve, great vids! I was wondering if you ever work out or jog or go to the gym?
hate to be negative but you could be opening up a can of worms with that angle that shows their records if any personal info is discernable.
Back flow for a coffee machine?
yes per water dept . because of all the vac pumps and dental chairs in the place .
@@stevenlavimoniere thanks
This may be a Dumb question but How does the dentist vacuum pump effect the water supply to the coffeemaker?
@Supa Trending Daily I understand the purpose of a whole house check valve. my question is how does the dentist vacuum pump effect the domestic water supply?
@@citrus1973 that's usually how it works
Good Sunday morning video
Next level next level Molly is a cutie pooch 💜
the blue dope should make the old coffee taste better!! LOL
Would there be a backflow valve on the water main?
There should be
From his other videos, there are none at the street. That is why it's regulated that they must have vacuum breakers on hot water tanks. Keeps the fire trucks from collapsing the tanks from pumping from a hydrant.
Some of the places he services seem to have them near the meter (which is in the basement) but not all. It is unheard of here. A new waterline installed in the smallest little village and there are three or more one-way valves formed into A manifold with the water service shutoff on one side and an owner shut off at the other, buried 5 ft. down.
Poor miss Molly. I’m sure she wanted to come in and help ya mount that backflow preventer
A backflow on a coffee machine what's next a backflow on the toilet. Peace brother and Molly
Makita man I tell you what’s next, grease traps..... it is happening ,some places are asking for it.
Every fixture in a house has to some sort of back flow protection. Toilets fill valve are suppose to maintain at least 1” of air gap from the overflow tube inside the tank.
There are backflow features inside all modern toilets already.
I had to put a check valve on my home coffee maker out of necessity. The reverse osmosis filter system would siphon the hot water out of the boiler and damage the membrane filter.
ellianna downs The water 1" below the overflow tube is not for backflow. The part that stops backflow in a modern toilet is the requirement that the ballcock be of the anti- syphon style ,thus water can't be drawn back into the cold water lines. 55 year retired plumber👷🏻
So the point of the check valve is to prevent water going back from the coffee maker to the mains.. But Why? Not enough pressure? The water can't have more pressure then what's going in.. What am I missing..
if you shut down the water in the bldg and do some plumbing work..you dont want it flowing back
@@joedugas9462 ah ok Thanks for the reply ❤ I'm no plummer but I am a curious individual...
SubigirlAWD _ Also if the city is working on lines in the street and they have to drain them the negative pressure will draw the water from the building if the house main doesn't have a vacuum breaker. 55 year retired plumber👷🏻
@@johnkrim8377 makes sense to me... Thank you ❤
Dentist have no conscious when it's billing time!!
I have that same toolbox !
You should get that other guy for copyright lol 😂 Peace ✌️
Not a fan of that 1/4 in plastic tubing. I’ve seen it split and leak.
There is no need for a backflow preventer on a coffee machine other than to prevent the water from the filter siphoning into the plumbing system. Coffee machines are already meet national standards such as NSF or ASSE. This backflow prevention device will not prevent compromised water from entering the coffee filter and coffee water. Cross-connections on the plumbing system shall be controlled in accordance with plumbing codes. Coffee machines are air gapped eliminating the need for additional protection. Public water systems are needlessly requiring backflow devices because they are not properly trained to understand the risk associated with cross-connections and the plumbing industry is not adequately controlling cross-connection within the domestic plumbing system. This in some cases is placing a undue economical burden on the faculty owners.
Who's that Molly ringwald?
Miss Molly is a better driver than most of the jokers out there on the road.
What is your go to all round pipe dope?
Hiya Steven and peers lol
Plumbers are strong from just carrying that tool box, must weigh 50lbs
I labeled mine ' The Widowmaker ' .
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Give it the old gundy, a little bit of fritz so she won’t be a leaka mama
Those teeth are real ^_^
Second comment
Backflow prevention valves sound like regulatory BS.
