Excellent thanks for posting. M. Lavimoniere speaks softly but carries a big wrench. Makes for a pleasant calm presentation.
Another quick repair, clean and neat as always. Good video Steve.
Straycurrent thanks for commenting
I have seen many of these valves fitted on US you tube vids but they would be totally illegal in the UK because the valve is permanently connected together with the pipe work , whereas in the UK we have to fit a flexible filling hose that as to be disconnected after use to prevent cross contamination of the cold water mains supply .
Different country different rules i suppose but that could be a major health issue should something fail within the valve and the foul water seep's back into the cold mains supply especially if a fire truck hooks up to a water hydrant close by and starts pulling water from the main street water line..........!
Anyway you still do great work Steve and i enjoy watching your videos , cheers
+yensabi yes we do thinks differently here is the states but i follow the local codes . if its not legal i do not do it
Why are some of those backflow preventers plugged in the videos?
Nice Job. I didnt know about the rubber check int the autofill
declo111 every day is a school day i always say ..
Nice and easy swap out job! Love them jobs. Nice work kid.
atenebruso thanks for commenting
What's your comment on the plug in the vent of Back flow preventer?
Excellent work Steve
Harry Dickson thanks harry
That's the way to get it done good work Steve.
Saul Friling thanks saul
I didn't know there was a check vave there thanks for that.
good job, I know plumbers that would have turned that into a two hour job, and would have to re done their own work a couple of times before they would get it half a right.
whommee its all in a days work
Good work brother, those things like to leak a lot
needmorediesel yes they leak alot ..
good job, Its a good thing the check valve held.
gerry mcadams they hold all the time ...
watt 9D replacement on hydronic boiler ..without draining the boiler
Steven I'd like to see you drain a boiler once. Trying to learn more about them.
Steve what's the proper replacement washer/gasket for the unions on the watts 1156f or 9D ?
Whenever I would shut off water to the house, I would get a bunch of rust/gunk coming out of my pipe when turning it back on. I have a whole house filtration system, so there should be zero gunk, but I'm thinking it's coming from my boiler pipes. I checked and there's no backflow preventer. What backflow preventer would you recommend?
Great repair Steve, looks like you work on a lot of boilers.
teh60 yes i work on a ton of boilers
Why was a water softener place on the hot water of (somebody house) only and not all the cold. The cold water for the fridge is not soften and every cold tap, I find that weird. Please explain. were they being cheap.
is it necessary to bleed the air out of the system afterwards ?
Nice job Steven
codymon100 thanks cody
No Teflon tape?
What is the reason for having a backflow preventer if the pressure reducer has a check valve in it? Thanks.
crvinva its code, the check in the pressure reducer is just a rubber flapper
Steve, Nice Work
S Sam thanks sam
Why do some people run a plug into the vent? I've seen you take them out of a few backflow preventors.
+sheathes to stop the leak but the 9d should be replaced
Hey Steve, I hope you reply to your message. haha. I have an issue dealing with same setup as what you have with the 9D then the bell looking thing to the left: currently it's leaking water through the part that mark "vent" on the 9D, so I shut the inlet water off and it stopped, I am looking to buy a new 9D and the "bell" looking valve and replace them. Is this the correct approach ? because based on my understanding, water should not be reversing. Thanks Alot
+Andre Brown yes you can change the 9d the older style had bigger nuts then the newer ones [most feeders] have a rubber check valve in them so the boiler water will not come out if you change just the backflow-9d you can get ips or solder ones the whole feeder backflow is called a 911s .like i said most feeders but not all so you might have to drain the boiler down check the feeder to see if its feeding by lifting up the bypass lever you should hear the water feed in if you manually lift the feed lever if not change out the whole 9 11s but then you have to drain boiler and purge zones it not really a big deal if yo know how to do it
Hi Steven, thanks a lot. One more question if you don't mind, my house has 2 zones and for some reason, the boiler is heating downstairs fine but it isn't circulating the water upstairs to the 2 bedroom's (base boards ). I was thinking maybe a frozen Pipe or What else do you think could be going on? Thanks alot
+Andre Brown hard to say over a email unless i am there to see whats going on sorry
steve..it must be a dual check style right? you cant just put single swing style type in?
Great video great work
Dunn Plumbing llc thanks man
random question, what's the difference from having a 3/4" or a 1/2" water line to feed the boiler? thanks
Nice Steve As Always
acechoice45 thanks ace for watching brother
Easy money. Nice Steve
Rob HVAC i keep raking in the cash
Nice repaired steve.
Steven, Do steam boilers require a backflow preventor if the fill valve is 6ft above the water level line.
Here in NY, backflow devices are required on all boilers, inc. steam. One might ask "why on steam boilers"? Because the potential for backpressure/backflow still exists, especially when there is pressure in the boiler.
Also, in some cases, while sitting cold, if the water line in the building loses pressure or is emptied, and the fill valve is opened on the boiler, you can very well have a backflow issue through siphonage.
In NYC, under 350,000BTU boilers, a check valve and simple, non-testable double check valve is fine. 350k and over, or depending on what the Engineers insist on, you often have to install an RPZ on the boiler fill line and test it as a "secondary or internal" backflow device.
Steve do all water feeds have a check on them ?
justin henning its just a rubber flap that hold the water back ..i know that watts do thats what i carry on my truck .. the other brands i am not sure of i would say yes i would have to look at them .. one at a time to be sure
Ok cool I install watts d9 but sometimes wolverine brass auto feeds so I'm going to take a look at them closer . Thanks man.
Great job 👏
hey Steve, I forgot to comment on the old backflow preventer vent was plugged. That was not a good thing to do, May be that's why it went bad? What do you think?
gerry mcadams they all go bad
Very informative - thanks.
+1, what are your thoughts on feeding into the supply, rather than return?
M Bet i do not care ,,as long as its on the proper side of the purge station,,, so i can purger the air out thats all that matters in the working world
@@stevenlavimoniere Do you recommend doing a T between the tank and the air scoop like this for the water supply? -Or is it better to have the T connection before or after the air scoop?
steve, what causes the backflow preventer to ocasionally drip from the vent port?
Low pressure on the supply side, laundry shower, flushing the toilet all at the same time.
Give em a raise YALL
Not exactly on topic but have you ever checked out the Buderus "factory"
airkraft1 not yet
