Hi Chris love the grocery store tours in Costa Rica .
We use to make two or three purchases a month in Pricesmart and at least once a week in Automercado, prices are more or less the same, for example imported Edam cheese ( same size and same brand) is cheaper in Automercado than in Pricesmart and look! If you have the Automercado card you receive a discount at least once a month, its depend on your total monthly purchase and a lot of discounts

I am glad you pointed out the Suntan lotion prices. That is something we always stock up in our checked in luggage when we go back up to the States.

Yes most grocery stores have ice coolers near the front or outside and you just tell the cashier

Thanks for the video. In the good old days , 20 years ago we had two automercados, one downtown San Jose, and on Tibas. Automercado, was or is very popular for non Costa Rican, due to the import products that most Costa Ricans can't afford or aren't so popular
@Randall Ruiz Saludos y bendiciones. Vivo en Tibás y todavía existe el Automercado, tiene productos de calidad, muy surtido y marcas extranjeras. También existe el Automercado de San José Centro, por lo general compro chocolates puros de marca Torras. En el caso de Tibás tiene cuatro Palí, un Maxi Palí, un Walmart, un MasXMenos, un Megasuper, un AMPM, un PriceSmart, un Vindi, un Super Asia, un Día Express en el EPA de Tibás, un Fresh Market y un Maxiconsumo. Me parece que cambiaron un Peri Mercado por un Super Compro. Además hay muchas pulperías tradicionales y mini super de chinos. Antes habían Musmanni y también Musi, pero ahora no estoy seguro.

There were more Automercados. Los Yoses was the first one, Plaza del sol (east san josé) and Plaza Mayor (west San Jose) since the 80s. Now there's 22 locations for Automercado

If you go to another supermarket and buy the fruits and veggies in the farmers market is more cheap. This is fancy for me as a Tico and I live in the States.
