Stumbled on this video. Respect for how quickly you unhooked the jack. Smart and generous to give the fish away. A few thoughts, 2 years ago we took our 9 year old grandson to Costa Rica. Our grandson is soccer obsessed. In the jungles around the volcanos he was bored and had me try to play soccer with him. At age 73 with arthritis I wasn't much fun for my grandson. A tall policeman appeared. For over an hour he taught our grandson to do various drills to better control the ball. The people there trust their government. At the time citizens were told to wear masks because of lingering covid. In remote areas we saw people wear masks. Once in Morocco I used a fly rod and successfully caught fish on a jetty that was on the Atlantic ocean side people were upset that I released fish. A high school aged boy explained in English the people around me were desperate to catch fish to eat. Caught some more and gave them away but stopped fishing . I will subscribe and hope to see you get into fly fishing. Thanks
Was just in CR also last week. Great vid and so cool showing the interaction with the locals. I do the same. Offer my fish to locals as appreciation for letting me fish in their beautiful country. I just subscribed. Hope to see more great stuff from you guys!
Happy Birthday, Corey ! Y'all are very fortunate to spend some time in beautiful Tamarindo; Costa Rica is such a beautiful country full of wonderful people, and the fishing is so great, too
When you walked down the walkway to the beach I knew exactly where you were❤️❤️❤️❤️Its the town where I have a place but haven’t been back since Covid 😔hope to be there soon🥰Thanks for showing me another activity I could try out!
Happy Birthday Mss Cory!!, heated action, 10,000 miles of beach, and that one guy keeps crossing y’all 🥴🤬!!! Going to eat them jacks for breakfast? 😬😬😬😬 that calls for a catch and cook! 😅😅🥴 not enough beer in the keg for me, Great job as usual. Thanks for sharing
I lived in Pavones for a few years and fished quite a bit, and the cops never bothered me. They're usually pretty cool down there as long as you're cool. I'm going to visit my son there in February and plan to fish in Lake Arenal and somewhere around Nicoya. The police there do their own cooking in the station (la delegación) and I'm sure they appreciated the jack. I don't like to eat them, too bloody. But Ticos don't mind and I gave them jacks too. We caught some bruisers trolling for mahi and tuna in El Golfo Dulce. Big mackerel too. I love Costa Rica and I hope I can figure out how to live there permanently. I have a son there so I have the right to be there. It's a beautiful country with mostly great people.
Going to Ocotal in July it’s a little further to the north. Just wondering if you have any idea if I would be able to do the same kind of fishing from that beach as well? What kinda rod and reel were you using? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated! Great Vid!
Nice catches! I'm hoping to do a little surf fishing if I can find some gear down there. Maybe just for rent. Seems a lot cheaper than doing a charter.
What a luvly beach. Jacks from the shore is such fun. Happy B'day Cory and congrats on the fish. My wife is now determined to get one on our hols. Shes had a big one (her 1st fish in Texas) from the South Jetty but shes hungry for more seeing yours.
Amazing and happy birthday Corey :) I'm going to Costa Rica next year and your vid is inspiring. I was wondering what's a standard fishing gear (rod & reel) for a beginner I can put in my luggage to fish from the beach ?
what kind of pole do you use for surf fishing? I want to take a pole next time I go down to Tamarindo but I've never rigged for salt water and I need a pole that I can fly with. Cheers.
Any advice on plugs, spoons or other lures to use down there? Going to tamarindo for three months soon and planning on bringing some fishing gear for the surf.
No I have not fished the beach there, fished a boat out of there and had a great trip though. search our vids for a Massive Wahoo video!!!! Good luck on your trip
We're headed down to Tamarindo in 2 weeks! Would love to get your feedback about fishing the area and any more tips you might have. I'm planning to bring a flyrod but am toying with bringing some spinning gear just in case I need the reach. Super stoked!
Awesome you will love it. We will actually be back there in 3 weeks!!! There are fly fishing opportunities in both near by rivers. The one at Tama and around the corner to South in Playa Langosta.
We have a separate vid on the rod I am sure you will enjoy. The reel is a Penn 4000 battle dx. It is a great and very affordable reel. We will be doing a full video review of it in the coming weeks
hey how was the process for bringing tackle onto the flights? im heading to costa rica this week and was going to bring a few rods and was planning to bring some lures. what was the process of bring lures, hooks and terminal tackle through? what lures did you manage to bring?
I was able to bring a ton of tackle. I loaded up 3 Plano boxed with every spoon, lure, bucktail jig I could ever want and then put that into my check baggage. The three oeoce rod was easy as well because I always travel to CR with a few surfboards. The travel rod fit easily into my board bag.
Dude we went out with a captain and the coast guard rolled up on us. Now I know why we were catching fish while other boats weren't We were fishing inside of a national park, have to be off by a mile or so maybe 3. Come to find out the captain was already on probation for doing the same thing, we had no clue what the rules were but he did ... was just trying to get us on some fish. Many talk about what is going to happen now. Thought they were going to take our gear and gopros , our fish at a minimum at least! We had cooler with tails sticking out but the captain positioned the boat so they couldn't see it. Everything worked out and we were just 'bird watching', that's what the captain told the CG anyways.
Cool, man!!! Breaking the law in a foreign country while killing wildlife in a protected area an being proud of it!! You americans really do us all a favour by disappering off the face of Earth.
Not sure yet , because we have a large group and some of kids are still in university. As long as I can get some surf fishing first thing in the morning iam all good . Just got back from Cuba and caught a 55lbs tarpon on a inlet using a musky bait , and a few jack fish .
One of my favorite days ever in Costa Rica. Hope y'all enjoy this amazing video.

Hello! We are going next month to Jacò…are we able to surf fish on Playa Hermosa beach? I believe it’s a big surfing spot.
As long as the waves aren't huge you should easily be able surf fish. There are some points and rocks around there that should protect it a bit
