- In this video we take you for a walk through the PriceSmart in Liberia Costa Rica. How different is it from Costco in North America? It's similar but it is definitely different. It is also worth the drive from Samara to stock up. Enjoy!

Thanks for doing that for those of us researching moving to CR
No problem, we figured a lot of people would like to know
Thanks again. You guys might be the single best source of practical, day-to-day info on Costa Rica! I love it!
Thanks! We enjoy sharing the info to help others make a move like we did
Awesome I've seen them working on this over the last few months. I'm excited that it's finally open!
Yes it's nice to have available for certain products
thank you for the information ,very useful !
Thanks so much for the US price conversions, super helpful!
You're welcome thanks for watching
👍🏻 good info! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
It was nice to shop vicariously through this video. Since covid hubby has been doing all the grocery shopping as he gets cabin fever and I do not. We got our membership last year.
Great informative video. ¡Muchas gracias!
Thanks
thank you for all your very interesting videos!
Great video. We just flew in and out of Liberia in early March just before the Covid shutdown. Had no idea there was a PriceMart across the street from the airport. We come down every year and bring down Beef tenderloin and other meats from Costco here in Canada. Frozen of course. Looks like we don’t have to to that anymore. Amazing to see all the changes in CR over the last 10 years.
Yes they were still building it then, it just opened June 17th. We get all of our good beef and pork from San Martin in the solarium which is across from the airport as well.
TheDufresnes Thanks for the info. Looking forward to the day we can return to CR. Samara is one our favourite areas to stay. Had a lot of fun there a few years ago. We will visit again. Take care and stay safe..
Good to see you guys still living pura vida and not mascarilla vida.... Gracias for the vids.
Haha yes, but as of yesterday the government mandated masks to go into almost all stores 🎭🤔
I'm from perez zeledon living in guanacaste but definitely we need a pricesmart in perez and also a pequeño mundo
I'm sure they will get one one day it seems like San isidro de el general is big enough. Next video is a walk through of pequeno Mundo 😊
We don't need any of those stores 80% of that garbage we don't use and is made in USA killing our own farmers
A lot of the produce they sell is from Costa Rica, same as Pali and Walmart here. The other stuff is imported because it isn't made in country. If it was they would sell it. Costa Rican beef is not very good so it's nice to be able to get a proper tasting beef cut.
Great video
Thanks!
Great video. Our family lives 10 minutes from there. We are in the states close to the BC, Canada border.
Thanks
great video. I hope to go back to costa rica soon.
Thanks, when you do come stay with us at Sea Casa
TheDufresnes for sure. Im going with the fam. keep in touch
Sounds good!
We have PriceSmart in Trinidad. It's very expensive however, so I stopped going sadly.
When you guys see prices in Colones do you always convert it into Canadian to see how much it is or after living for couple years here got it automatically? I love peanut butter and the yellow bag of peanuts from pricesmart, you will never get that price in regular shops, the pricesmart in SJ the one I go in Tibás looks the same as that not bigger, not sure how big are the other locations but I'm guessing they are not much bigger.
We convert it to US in our head not Canadian dollars anymore. Yes it's definitely the best price for peanuts and peanut butter, I think maybe the ones in escazu and sanata Anna are bigger or at least have more things from photos and 1 video I've seen
Nice video thanks Amy fresh seafood?
How about snall appliances, linens, furniture and mattresses. Did they have any of those types of items. Thanks!
Yes some of them, it varies each time we go
Costa Rica, Pura Vida
If you have time, checkout La Selegna in Liberia next time. They serve the coldest beer in town and the staff and owner is super friendly. I don’t think they allow children though.
Ok cool, we'll check it out, lots of times when we go it's just the 2 of us anyway
TheDufresnes thank you for providing a factual, honest, and sincere representation of Costa Rica. We can see it and feel just from watching your videos how much you enjoy your life and how you continue to immerse yourselves into the culture. Thank you and Pura Vida!
You're welcome, I don't like other videos out there that misrepresent what Costa Rica is actually like as well as how friendly the Costa Ricans are. I hope I can contact the tourism of Costa Rica and work with them to show more people what they can do when they visit this beautiful country 😊
TheDufresnes that would be great!
See any coffee crisp chocolates anywhere? My guilty pleasure 😅 Planning to move to the central valley from Alberta 🇨🇦
And ketchup chips! Lol. Two very Canadian things I will be sad about
Also love coffee crisp and have them brought down! And Hawkins Cheesies and of course Ketchup chips!
Do they sell Kirkland brand? Looking for low dose aspirin (83 mg) ….
Does any know if they sell beer there
Bud light?????
They do sell beer, but not sure about bud light
I think member selections is the same thing as Kirkland Signature in the USA?
Yes the same
Awesome to know there is a Costco-like option there. Liberia? Curious though, because here of course masks are mandatory in certain places (Costco), are they mandatory there anywhere as well? Great video!
Yes this one is in Liberia, masks are mandatory in banks, and other certain places but not everywhere.
TheDufresnes good to know! Thanks!
I live close to San José, the capital, and it is actually hard to see a person not wearing a mask
Don't get us started on masks! I'm not prohibiting oxygen to my body. Plus they have rules as to where you have to wear masks. Grocery stores are not on the list so we are not breaking any rules
@@TheDufresnes I am not saying you are breaking any rules, just telling you what I see here. Love you channel guys.
Good video. I wish you had gone SLOWER when you showed the prices
Have you noticed anywhere that sells authentic Canadian maple syrup? I didn’t see any when I was there....but I don’t live there...yet 😁
Yes, iguana Verde super sell a maple syrup from Canada 😊🇨🇦🍁
TheDufresnes I appreciate your quick response. Addicted to your videos. I learn so much. I have so much I want to see and do in Costa Rica. You really promote the country well and realistically. Samara is on my list of places to see this next trip. Hopefully I can meet you guys and buy you a beer or two. Lol 🇨🇦
@@janfenton7478 yes come stay with us at Sea Casa and we can hang out on the patio, have some drinks and chat. We love to do this with our guests!
@@TheDufresnes automercado as well
Guys in the future for another video. Go to a Pali super market which is a supermarket in Costa Rica. Describe it, Talk about it and show prices of things ( you can google it, that is the name) And write on the title of the video: The CHEAPEST supermarket in Costa Rica?. Put the title in Big/capital letters because that is true, that is the cheapest supermarket in Costa Rica ( their logo is like the best prices guaranteed or something like that ) that is where the poor and medium class in Cost Rica buy ( let’s not forget that the majority of Costa Rican are medium class so let’s say that a big amount of people buy from Pali). If one day , you encountered Canadians or tourists who are short on money, well recommend them to go there ( if there is one nearby) On google and I found there in guanacaste, not sure if there is one close to your house but what I can assure u is that, it is the cheapest supermarket in Costa Rica and weather it is close or not, I would convince you to go some day bc that would be a great 👍 title for a video, I think! I’m talking about Pali. Not maxi Pali ( maxi Pali is another that happen to have a similar name)
We go to Pali in Samara for 2 things! Toilet paper and paper towel, other then that, Super New China, Super Iguana Verde and Dona Lechuga are cheaper and have more selection. Maxi Pali in Nicoya has cheaper garbage bags and more choice for frozen food that's it. Both Pali and Maxi Pali are losing out because of the Chinese supers. Pali and Maxi Pali are both owned by Walmart
TheDufresnes Interesting , I am glad that u are very informed. Costa Rica can be expensive for newcomers like u. That is why I wanted to Inform you about Pali. Real Costa Ricans won’t ever say Costa Rica is expensive bc they don’t travel to compare but as soon as you step out your country, you start to realize holly how expensive is Costa Rica. But again they won’t ever realize how expensive it is bc the majority own their house, don’t have air conditioning , barely use electricity ( for example: we don’t have dish washer, dishes are washed by hand), we in Costa Rica depending on the family don’t use to keep lightbulbs on when we don’t need it. For example, In my house my mom used to say if there is a fan / tv that u are not using, please turn it off bc it makes the electricity go higher. And also in the past when whatsup or phoneplans did not exist my mom had to call family very quick ( u know that Costa Ricans like to call their family or be in touch with family very often lol) Anyway all of those little things kept us from spending a lot of money.
It's funny because we find most things here are the same price as in British Columbia, as far as products go, I can see how people from the USA can find it more expensive for sure. As a child I too was told to shut things off that weren't in use like lights and the tv. I still do it haha, it's a good habit.
Almost nobody uses dishwasher in Costa Rica
Yes they are uncommon but it was one North American luxury we wanted to keep
Tell a little more about super china? Never heard of it before?
It's a big super market in Samara
What is Super China? Where is it?
Super China is a grocery store we have here in Samara. They have a pretty good selection and some good pricing. Next week we are doing daily vlogs so you will see it if you watch. #spoileralert 😊
I will for sure. I was the guy that suggested a tour of PriceSmart and Pecudamundo a month ago. I also emailed you a few months ago on info on your sea can builds, but no reply back from you.
Sorry about that, we get so many emails and messages it's hard to keep track and keep up, plus a ton go to our junk mail, even on our business page. We also have normal family life which is a juggling act. There are also some emails we do not respond too 1.if they are asking personal questions, especially about money or 2. If they can be answered by watching our videos. What was your email about?
I just resent it. I was asking for some info about the sea can rentals for our development around Montezuma. We also make ATV trips to Samara and wanted to maybe stay in your units.
Ok yes I see it, we don't give that kind of info out as we may develop down there. Sorry
En Costa Rica no se parece nada al de España porque es tan diferente sobre todo el área de comidas
you say bagel the same way i say bagel! where are you from?
British Columbia
Where is this? Is there an address?
It's across from the Liberia airport
At first I thought your wife was a Latina girl walking behind u then I realized it was your wife. It seems that she is getting that spicy vibe of a Latina hahaha.
Lol I just read that to her and Behdad and Michelle, they all laughed. It's cause she tans well and has her dark hair back
TheDufresnes I knew u were going to read it to her, I’m the poutine history funny guy hahaha. She will soon start cooking while singing / dancing while cleaning and that will make your life happier 😂 lol
Haha she already does that which is why I have a happy life!
Nick what exactly do you mean by "spicy vibe"? 😉
@Shayna Dufresne Hi Shayna, Happy Canada Day to you guys by the way. I will try to explain you what it means although it is hard to explain it (it is something impregnated in our culture and i kind of find it difficult to explain). I am sure that as time passes, you will be behaving very Costa Rican or Latina bc as time passes we start absorbing the culture more and more. Lets leave it as a latina vibe instead of spicy vibe or whatever (they are the same, can be the same). Anyway, I think I brought up the topic because you look very similar to a Costa Rican friend of mine who lives in the USA but the only difference is that she behaves Latina and you behave American/Canadian. But also, these feeling that you are absorbing the culture and becoming more latina (in this video) was not only because of appearance, but more because of your behavior , it all started in the min 0:52 until min 0:59. I feel that because of the Pricemart roof (shadow) that you guys look darker (just take a look between those minutes and you will see what I mean). But as I said before, I did not exactly say it bc of appereance, it was more because of your behavior. For example: I feel that in the min 0:52 you interrupted Mr Dufresnes by jumping and saying I am showing off my card (I am taking that you said "I am showing off my card"). You jumped with a hyper attitude just like a Latina, with a big laugh just like latinos laugh all the time, interrupting just like we Latinos interrupt sometimes. It could have been because you were happy because you were going to buy a new TV or something new but in those minutes I felt a Latin vibe coming from you (yes we latinos try to be always happy). I searched for a youtube video to show you further but I found nothing.
God . They take over everything. I feel bad for the Pulperias and small family Stores. But it is what it is.
Most stuff people buy local, but if it something is not available then yes people purchase at PriceSmart and Walmart etc. If it's not available locally then there is no harm in also buying at places like pricesmart, at the same time they are providing consistent employment for locals as well
