A Faulty depollution system doesn't damage the engine because that happened to my parents Citroen c4 Picasso and we drove 203 miles on it and they fixed it just by clearing out the pipes with a big rev and tons of soot and yuck came out and the warning never came up again
Had this problem on my 207 after replacing the coil pack and spark plugs I pulled the ecu and there was water sitting in the plug just had to dry it off and it was sorted. Hope this helps
I just removed the dreaded DPF on my Peugeot Partner 2014 1.6 HDI. Used and will recomend a garage. It was 400£ and job done. No more funny lights, no more eloys fluid, and no more DPF ceramic bullshit. They removed all the inner crap, put the empty tin back on, did a remap (91 to 114 HP) and the MPG is much improved (from 40MPG motorway, now getting 55 and above). I am not advertising, i'm just (was) a frustated owner of this complicated emission piece of crap.

In my case ignition coil needed to be replaced. This is something you can easily do yourself. Just buy the part and replace it. It wouldn't hurt to put some dielectric grease on part which connects to the spark plug and some electric spray on contacts with power cable. There are how-to videos on yt.

@@ionutmu Yes, loss of power and unbalanced shaky engine, because one cylinder was not firing. I didn't notice any smoke, but could be.
There can be other reasons cylinder is not firing, like bad spark plugs, bad injectors, not pressure in the cylinder and so on... ignition coil seems to be most common problem.

camshaft sensor is usualy the right guess in case you have the 1,6L 12OPD petrol engine...
We had a 308 with the 1.6 vti engine that did the same thing a few years back. Can't remember what it was though. Was fixed under warranty. I remember it spluttering sometimes on start up.
@@MalavDesai We sold it. It was never resolved. I think they replaced the mapping sensor at some point and just kept resetting the computer.
I had same prb, It was the valves. You hav to open cylinder head and change all the valves seats and clean smothly the valves . You might get this issue cuz you didnt change oil for many times and drive with littel engin oil.
I have this now....coil packs replaced, new spark plugs etc...loss of power when this comes on and driving but nothing comes up when on the computer
looks likes a mix
#1 sparkplug and coils
#2 camshaft sensors
#3 oxygen sensors
#4 intake cleaner and long drive
#5 stretched timing chain and new engine

had this come up on mine recently, got the code read and it was a fuel pressure problem. changed the fuel filter and the problem has gone, the old fuel filter was blocked and expanding with the pressure.this car was supposedly serviced last year.
In mine 308 I had depollution system faulty and it turned out that a sensor of temperature was off - it showed -45C while it was +5C outside-so now everything is ok :)
My 307 has just started to display the 'depollution system faulty' message too. Funny enough the coolant sensor seems to be faulty as I also get the gauge swing from 'max' to nothing which triggers a 'Engine temperature too hot' warning.
Replaced variable valve vanos solenoid £25 eBay held with 10 mm bolt front of engine and this cured depollution fault 207 1.6 120 bhp
This warning comes up on my dash.The car staggers a lot as if it is running on 3 cylinders, and the cooling fan runs all the time.When you switch the engine off it still runs for a couple of minutes.The temp guage never moves

Bro I had the exact same problem. After reading through every forum,and trying every trick in the book it turns out my issues were related to a fuse under the bonnet. F4 or F5, it was a 10amp anyway. That fuse had blown and once I replaced it and went for a drive around town my problems were fixed.

Mines comes on and off, but a few weeks back i was driving and it beeped the warning came up and i took a dizzy turn almost immediately after it , ive had the car 18months this was the fist time this happened, usually the pollution warning comes on when starting up , was very strange,, ive sat a co monitor in tge car since and ive had nothing show up .

I have the same read out but for 2 cylinders. misfire on 2 and 4 a test and change of ignition coils and spark plugs, as well as the camshaft sensor, havent changed anything. all other sensors of the exhaust system are okay, so the fuel qty is good, and there are no other messages of faulty devices. this problem occurs at temperatures lower 4°c and disappears once the engine is on operational temperature. never the less, the fuel consumption is increased while there seem to be a lack of power betweem 2000 and 2800rpm. I have the 1,6l 16v vti with 109hp in a Citroen C4 2008.

Yea, the solution is a new engine... If you have the prince engine there is what will happen to it, first it's just the check enigine light, then the "anti pollution faulty" comes on. So we have been driveing our citroen c4 (with the same engine) for about a year and the light was coming on and off, then we came on some new probems, the engine lost power and that showed the most when the engine was cold (that was in summer) the engine satrted choking some times it felt like it was runing on only 3 cylinders and it turned out it did as one of the coils hade not been working right. We tried runing it on 100 octane fule and driveing with a minimum of 3000 RPM so that the engine would clean it self a bit, and the problem want away for a week or so. The problem came back again so we decided that it was time for new coils and spark plugs. It was than that we discoverd that the pump for the a/c was driping fulid. Apparently that should hapen on all citroens C4's from about 2007-2010 with the prince engine. When that was all fixed the engine would never start normaly again, it would now take up to 10sec for it to start, so when the cold came we figured it is better for the carto be sitting in the shop than in front of the house not being able to start, so we took it to the shop. That shop was suppoused to be one of the best for citroen and it took them about 2 weeks to figure it out, the problem is the VTI technology. Aparently there are bushings that regolate valve timing in the the engine head and they are done for, the head is about 1.000€ I think and with the man hours it is not cheep. So a new engine would be a better solution, probably a disel engine from another C4. Oh and not to forget that the engine uses way too much oil, when the car is driveing on higher rev for an hour or two on lets say "hill climb" it need a new dose of oil.
I hope that solves your question. If changeing the coils and spark plugs dosen't help, try a new engine.

My 120 hp had the same problem. Computer said Camshaft Sensor Problem (Nockenwelle), camshaft too early. Could mean a valve leaking among other things. Workshop cleaned all the camshaft pipes and the symbol never came up again.

yeah, that's very true. It's more like an alert system that calls your attention to a faulty item on the emission control system. it could just be any component but will always have something to do with emission control.
had this exact same fault you need to replace your fuel filter and this will stop the fault i had diagnotic after diagnostic at the garage were i work and this was the last resort before we started to look at expensive stuff to fix and once we replace the fuel filter it was fine
Hie, i have a peaugout 307 and recently it started flashing a warning on the dashboard that the battery is not charging about 4 days back. It stopped while it was in motion 2 days back. Now i can not get it to lock doors or stop the car from flashing and the mechanics do not know what is wrong. Please help

Got a 207 gt had the fault ,worth to put fuel cleaner in the tank it's been ok for a month... something to do with the fuel pump side.....
My brothers 207 does this and the rad fan just kicks in.
Hallo, ich hatte bei meinem 308er 1,6 - 88kw auch den selben Fehler, " Abgassystem defekt, Abgasentgiftung defekt ".
Ich bin oft mit dem auto liegen geblieben und wurde in die Werkstatt geschleppt. Nach vielen werkstattbesuchen und immer ohne Befund, fing ich an selber nachzuforschen. verschiedene namhafte werkstätte wechselten zündspulen, zündkerzen und sämtliche sensoren. Hat alles nicht gebracht. Lediglich nach dem löschen des fehlers aus dem Boardcomputer fuhr der Wagen wieder bis zum nächsten piepsen, welchen ich dann immer selber gelöscht habe. ( fehlerauslesegerät von ebay 75 €)
Nach langem forschen im Internet bin ich darauf gestößen, dass nich nur peugeot, sondern auch Citroën und BMW diese Probleme haben.
Es handelt sich fast immer um die selben Motortypen, den 1,6L VTI mit 88 PS, und 1,6L THP mit 150ps
Welche in kooperation von BMW entwickelt wurden, und starke probleme mit den Steuerketten haben.
Also nach 100.000 km kette, gleitschienen, fehlehaften spanner und dichtungen getascht, 500 € "bei Citroën war der günstigste Anbieter" und er rennt wieder wie ein sportler.
Ich meinte die motortypen 1,6L VTI mit 120PS und 1,6L THP mit 150 PS jeweils mit steuerkette
Zusatz, dadurch das der kettenspanner die kette nicht richtig spannt, kommt es zu veränderten Zündzeiten der Zylinder.Die Folge dessen, er erkennt falsche abgaswerte, bzw schaltete,wie bei mir, einen Zylinder komplett ab, und in's notprogramm. Was mit fehlerlöschen erstmal wieder behoben war. Das OBD II zeigte lediglich den abgeschalteten Zylinder als fehler an. Zyndspulentausch wurde 3 mal vorgenommen bevor sie feststellten das diese nicht defekt waren.
Mein motto, vertraue nicht gleich auf die Werkstatt, immer nachfragen und googeln. Im Kampf gegen die Industrie.
+Andy Herms Kannst du mir sagen, was für ein BJ es ist? Ich fahre Berlingo mit 1.6vti aus bj 2011 und heute ist bei mir das gleiche passiert... Angeblich ab bj 2009 gibt es den Problem mit Kette usw nicht mehr

have a 308 2008 automatic diesel...the car turned off when on "A" and had the same stuff "depollution system faulty" took it to the dealership they said its the fuel filter. i put around 7000 swedish krones, around 700 buck, and now the problem is showing up again and car is switching off when on "A". 1st time i buy a peugeot and its the last god dam time

Depollution System Faulty Warning, easy Fix: Drive the shit out of the car for 15-20mins - high revs on the motorway. Cleans the carbon buildup out of the system.

This uploader is a clown.
He even selected the wrong ECU Protocol when he was trying to interrogate the OBD-II.
In my experience, Peugeot's are notorious for such faults.
It could be any thing from a Spark Plug, to Piston Ring failure.
The are idiots on here that tried:
Spark Plugs
Fuel Filters
Ignition Coils
Camshaft Sensors
Camshaft Solenoids
Timing Chain Kits
After all that, they replaced the Engine and it worked......
What about testing the Fuel Injector??? 🤔
There is no way every Peugeot is going to get fixed by replacing the same part on all of them due to them having the same fault code.
The ECU can only point you in a direction.
From then on, it's all about how much experience and understanding you have!

Bottle of Cataclean £17,99 at Halfords..with a quarter of a tank or less fuel put the whole bottle of fluid into your tank..drive 20 ins then top it up with a quality fuel ie BP Ultimate or Sherll Nitro and get on the Motorway for 10 mins booting it..Restart BINGO..Depollution System Fault is Gone:)

Yeah the Cataclean worked for me, not straight away but half way through the next day. 3 days later, its back again! Car stalls and now I'm on limited power. Late for work too, not good. Thinking of giving away my 407 :(

Man , you are wrong. You have to hate BMW, most new models Peugeot are with BMW petrol engines and they are CRAP. Peugeot petrol engines are perfectly fine. If you have 1.6 120 HP is deffinatly BMW engine.
