I burst out laughing at the Icebreakers Sours because in 2008 as a 17-year-old LG15 fan I absolutely bought a pack AND showed them off in one of my poorly made webcam videos I posted to RUclips at the time. What a flashback. Also love your love for P. Monkey. And amazing introduction to Jonas. I don't often use the word "dreamy" but I feel like I'm supposed to when it comes to him? As for the revival, I think it was okay for the show's target audience that it was spread across different channels and social media, because I witnessed firsthand how the core fandom had laid in waiting for ten years and was ready to emerge and dive right back in when the new content appeared. Certainly it would've been nearly impossible to follow for any brand new viewers, so I think they were pretty specifically catering to that old fandom by doing things the way they did. It was a bummer when the revival just stopped, though, because I'd had so much fun playing in that fandom again that summer and then it just faded away all over again. I do understand that everyone involved got busy with other things and, honestly, I blame the 2016 election a bit for bumming everyone out too much about the future to get back to this time and money-consuming passion project. Totally understood that in November 2016 and I still do now. But honestly, I just want to know what happened to Jonas! The cliffhanger they left him on in 2008 has haunted me more than any real television cliffhanger, honestly.
You’re one of the coolest RUclipsrs I know. I discovered your channel only recently and it helped me find a smile again, alongside interest in the world around. Thank you for your content!
Honestly as someone who loves ARGs I feel lonelygirl15, though innovative for its time as basically the founder of ARGs, more or less has aged completely poorly and was an awful story in hindsight. I know it's unsubstantiated but it is an interesting footnote in the Slender Man history to explore. They discussed it in a Half in the Bag episode.
I'll always appreciate LonelyGirl15. She was the first RUclipsr to have, like, actual production values, and to try and tell a story using the medium of online video. In many ways, Lonelygirl15 is like Red VS Blue: she showed that the internet could support scripted story-based content, doing for live-action web videos what they did for web animation: Without it, and its followers like Marble Hornets and The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, we never would have gotten things like The Guild, Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and countless other storyline-based web series centered around high production values. Like RVB, it was a major game changer in the idea of making scripted content for the web.

What I find fascinating about it that you touch on is how time-dependent YT media can be. Lonelygirl15 is mentioned as the granddaddy of online fascination with ARGs, but Halo 2's "I Love Bees" viral marketing ARG pre-dates it by a couple years. The website for it got over 3 million unique visitors within a few months, an especially huge deal for 2004. Interesting quote from Wikipedia: "Players eventually figured out the coordinates referred to pay phones and the times to when the phones would ring; one player in Florida stayed by a phone while Hurricane Frances was minutes away in order to recite answers to prerecorded questions." Many of the same personnel were behind 2001 ARG The Beast, though that isn't remembered as much.

Interesting quote from Wikipedia: "Players eventually figured out the coordinates referred to pay phones and the times to when the phones would ring; one player in Florida stayed by a phone while Hurricane Frances was minutes away in order to recite answers to prerecorded questions."
Many of the same personnel were behind 2001 ARG The Beast, though that isn't remembered as much.
Your gas lighting joke made me think, when common misunderstandings or lies in the public become truth because no one remembers the real truth, which one matters more?
