Mate that block of wood trick is fantastic. I always took the sub frame off and had a mare of a time putting it back on single handed. Next one I do I'm just gonna loosen the drivers side and give it a crack with levering the sub frame. Huge respect 👍
i use to put clutches in myself years ago cant believe how easy you make it look the best ones i loved doing was the mk 2 astra as you didnt have to take the gearbox out they were a doddle to do back in my day love watching your vids
Darren Stockton I’ve heard about them clutches in the old Astra that could be done within the hour. Thanks for your review. Very much appreciated. And definitely a big thanks for visiting the channel.
Very nice video. I have an 05 Combo with the 1,7 Cdti and im going to do a flywheel and clutch replacement. Swapping to a solid flywheel. I guess it is pretty much the same. Thank`s for the upload!
I attempted this today. It’s was fairly straightforward and easy up to the point where I had to remove the subframe bolts behind the struts. On one side the housing for the retaining bolt had disintegrated so it just spins around and I can’t grip it with anything, on the other side it was seized solid and I had to spend an hour cutting it with a reciprocating saw until I could crack it off! I’m now wrestling the 3 bolts that hold the gear cables in place. And I thought working on my 335i was bad! Did you have to change the flywheel? I’ve given my pressure plate a wiggle and it has a lot of play in it.
Definitely change the flywheel. With rust never fight it. Lots and lots of wd40. Back and forth multiple time. Sometimes mm at a time. Then once the crust is broken you’re good to go.
@@WMCS thanks for replying mate, I need to change my gearbox, watching your videos you did it without removing the subframe, hoping I could do the same
Have you ever done the gearbox on a astravan 1.7 sportive..2012 ...it looks like I have to take the subframe off...didnt know if you could support the rads and lean the sub and draw it out to the left bottom.....any ideas..
Nice video, thanks. You make it look much easier than I have been led to believe. But, just to 100% confirm, I can pull the DMF off as well using this method and won't have to take the entire sub frame out?
Shane Hogarth if it’s a 1.3L then it’s fairly straight forward. Definitely you can pull the flywheel out just by dropping one side of the subframe... plenty of room to work the ratchet spanner. Ideally you’ll need a long handle 1/2 drive ratchet spanner as it’ll give you the leverage to crack the bolts.
This gearbox in this car is little difficult to remove because of high weight and the subframe must unscrewed how many hours take to replace the clutch ?congratulations
Does anyone on here know if it's possible to remove the turbo by just taking the exhaust off and lifting out the top? Replaced mine last year but had been told you have to take the whole front off, so I did but it occured to me after there there may have been a MUCH easier way but couldn't see how the exhaust separated 🤔
Nice vid man . Replaced the metalic gasket on the timing chain cover this week but I need to change the clutch and the fkin bearing inside the gb (the m20\m32 common fail) . Do I need to remove any thing from the steering system\column or is just like the drive shafts (pull off to remove) ? Do you know any torque specs for the subframe bolts ?
@@WMCS hey kevin I am changing a dmf on a friend's astra 1.3 but I don't know how you managed to get that gap between the subframe and the chassi because I don't have enough space to put the differential on top of the subframe ...did you removed the bolt (subframe) on the other side, near the radiator ? that bolt is limiting how far I can drop it and I can't unscrew it more
Hi, got same clutch job to do on a astra van 1.7cdti 6 speed 2007 any major differences please Kevin? do both drive shafts have to come out or just passenger side ? many thanks sue
Margaret Spencer Hi Sue. It’s exactly the same.the only difference on some 1.7 is that you have to unbolt the starter motor. There is one bolt at the top of the starter which can be tricky. Use a 1/4 drive with a small extension. But do not remove the bolt when it comes loose as it runs through a bracket. That will save you time from re aligning it which can be very time consuming. Apart from that everything else should be the same. I’ll do a video of one hopefully next week.
Margaret Spencer I will post a video in the next hour. And will show where that starter bolt is located but on a Hdi engine. I’ll leave the bolt in with the gearbox out so you can have an idea.
Margaret Spencer Only remove gearbox side subframe bolts and drop link. The other side of the subframe undo it all halfway, you can leave drop link on the other Side. Use plenty wd40 on the middle subframe bolts. Work it slowly in and out a few time to break the rust. Otherwise it will snap the very weak weld that holds the nut in place and it may spin. Causing further delay.
sierra1 S Yes it is pretty much the same. Only difference might be the gear linkage attachments as the older ones uses the rod system rather than cable.
Yep you can. If you have a browse on the channel there’s several Vauxhall that with the gearbox coming out through subframe. One insignia and another one Astra on top of my head.
It's almost identical in procedure mate. You also need to unclip and move the wiring harness to get to the top gearbox bolts and remove the plate that holds the gear cables to the box but that's about it.
@@WMCS oh right ok I have a mk11 corsa diesel 1.3 would it be pretty much the same does the starter motor have to be taken off didn't see u take it off on the video.

Good vid,was going to remove sub frame until watching, used this method instead on 58 plate 1.7D,six speed,no real problems thanks.
Just changed my Astra clutch and couldn't have done it without you. Mine took days and not hours so I'm sure yours must be 4x speed 😉😉. Cheers!

hi there respect.i own a corsa 1.3 70 ps cdti, but unfortunately the dual mass flywheel is broken, can i fit a single mass flywheel kit?
Can you put this way the gearbox all the way out to work on a bench? Or is it necessary to put subframe out
I know this is an old video, but I have only just come across it, does the steering rack need to be loosened/removed to lower the Subframe?
In this case I didn’t need to ..,, there was enough give from the steering arm to compensate for the drop.

Jubei kibagami only the 1.9 you need to remove starter. Otherwise it stays in situ
It’s bolted into the engine block.

Is there any special tools needed to do DMF and clutch i.e tensinor or alignment tools or is procedure the same 1.7 ecoflex Astra 09 plate.
MsPaul01 no special tool. Just a clutch alignment tool. If you look on the channel all the latest videos I’m showing clutch fitting procedure.
Is it possible to remove the gearbox this way?

Thanks for the feedback. But it is just that. Partially drop the subframe. No need to detach the steering column as it is extendable.

How much should a garage charge for this job ? Inc dual mass and clutch
It might be a bit difficult to say as different places have different Labour rates. But the parts will come to roughly £400 give.
Kudos man. Doing this shitty job whilst doing a good filming it. Amazing.
Does the clutch self bleed?
Carl Goddard no it requires the bleeding procedure.
Pump pedal
Hold it down.
Crack open bleed nipple
And repeat process
