The problem with Discord staff is that they have no idea when to be serious. Like, it’s OK for Discord to post funny ads on RUclips or make funny loading screens, but you can’t just start a professional email with “Our fairies and elves are working our magic”

Needless to say I ended up getting doxd like a week later and they did nothing lol

I used to be friends with someone who works pretty high up in Discord and… I’m not saying I can picture her personally writing every single one of these messages and thinking it is the funniest/most clever thing in the world, but I’m heavily implying it
All I knew about discord is that it can get kind of toxic at times and a lot of gamers use it. That's about it. I thought "oh, so it's basically like every other chat server?" Dead wrong. I'm having a deep, visceral cringe from how they talk.

I love the anime community btw and used to play an anime game all the time even though I've never watched a single anime.

Funny enough this memespeak shit and general lunacy is the actual reason why I was slow on the uptake with discord. My friends started moving to discord when it first started when we were still using Skype and Teamspeak mainly, and the first time I tried it and it was like "wumpus is pogging your wogger to over 9000" I was like this is not for me. Took me like a whole ass year to finally come over as Skype was killing itself.
My only problem with discord is that every time someone calls me I instinctively just shit my pants, its just a god awful call sound and it comes out of nowhere sometimes, especially when you think you've closed it but its actually just lurking in the background of your computer

Now Discord has gotten worse. Now they got moders that will kick you out of any server for making any kind of human mistake/error. One of them banned me for apparently pining too many people, which is a bullshit excuse in my opinion because I was doing it because I was having multiple conversations with people (plus others were doing it as well)(though said server has more than likely been deleted now or will be soon since its impossible to find now and probably got deleted because the people running Discord finally viewed what was being put on their and didn't approve of it). Plus they got rid of the option to look for other discord servers, plus now that they're part of Sony, they're going to end up deleting a lot of the servers and accounts to please their sensor happy overlords and turn the site into another Tumblr.

As of now, Discord has gotten a lot more "professional." They've completely lost all personality whatsoever. Sure, it makes some people happy, but it seems like a bit much for a service that was previously oriented towards gamers. I guess that they just want desperately to please businesses that don't use their service anyway.

They found and banned a pedo who had been a prominent member of the server. Someone I had considered a friend for the short time I'd been there so far (about a month). They're disturbingly difficult to recognize sometimes. He seemed like such a good guy to a few of us until we found out he was grooming an underage member of the server. I never even knew he was married until talking about him with others after we found this stuff out. He hid a fair bit from me as it turns out. Really shook my preference of trusting others until they show reason not to.

It's because server owners and mods are treating discord as a business. I've legit had a 13 year old mod refer to their position of moderator as their job. They treat users like numbers. They are expecting discord to supply a monetary value in the future. It's like investing. So all the servers have to be perfect and mass marketed but also heavily guarded to be exactly the way the owners and mods want. I got banned from *the* yugioh discord, because I called a guy a doomer. (He kept complaining and complaining in chat and all I said was stop being a doomer, banned lmao.) *Partner* server is why mods and owners are so sweaty. They want to monetize their servers in any way possible, any method that says "success" even if they don't even make money for it. This is why us og gamers have nostalgia for, party chat on consoles and private Skype groups before discord came out. Skype honestly, was amazing, purely because they didn't care about milking us for money. The people who made discord have been in trouble in the past for using their software to try to farm profit off of people in less than moral ways. They saw gamers using Skype, and decided to make a "Skype for gamers" it was an idea that literally couldn't fail. The real culprit here is trying to monetize all of the internet, This is why youtube has gone so far downhill, this is why Nintendo Xbox and playstation has been trying to maximize returns. This is why there is no innovation. It's all about maximizing profits using minimal expenses. So, please, let's all go back to Skype hahaha

I never even knew he was married until talking about him with others after we found this stuff out. He hid a fair bit from me as it turns out. Really shook my preference of trusting others until they show reason not to.

"Here's a bunch of listed words you can't say!" meanwhile, there's tons of dating servers with underage kids being preyed on by grown ass adults. Creepy ass loli servers and pedo servers, with both mixed together with a Furry spin! Great times.

Pretty hilarious since I only downloaded discord a couple weeks ago after getting back into OW because nearly everyone uses it instead of the garbage social features in game.

It's because server owners and mods are treating discord as a business.
I've legit had a 13 year old mod refer to their position of moderator as their job.
They treat users like numbers. They are expecting discord to supply a monetary value in the future. It's like investing.
So all the servers have to be perfect and mass marketed but also heavily guarded to be exactly the way the owners and mods want.
I got banned from *the* yugioh discord, because I called a guy a doomer. (He kept complaining and complaining in chat and all I said was stop being a doomer, banned lmao.)
*Partner* server is why mods and owners are so sweaty. They want to monetize their servers in any way possible, any method that says "success" even if they don't even make money for it.
This is why us og gamers have nostalgia for, party chat on consoles and private Skype groups before discord came out.
Skype honestly, was amazing, purely because they didn't care about milking us for money.
The people who made discord have been in trouble in the past for using their software to try to farm profit off of people in less than moral ways.
They saw gamers using Skype, and decided to make a "Skype for gamers" it was an idea that literally couldn't fail.
The real culprit here is trying to monetize all of the internet,
This is why youtube has gone so far downhill, this is why Nintendo Xbox and playstation has been trying to maximize returns. This is why there is no innovation.
It's all about maximizing profits using minimal expenses.
