  • In this tutorial I'm showing you how to make BFG Division's synth lead from the DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal soundtrack. This industrial synth lead was designed by Mick Gordon and was used throughout the whole DOOM soundtracks. Many industrial bands are using similar synth leads.

    Before I get messages, no this sound is not for sale or part of a preset pack! hehe Also I forgot that in the GLOBAL section you have to put the ''MODE'' option to Random :)
    And, of course, Mick Gordon probably did not use Serum for this one nor the exact same technique. But I think it sounded pretty damn close hehe What do you guys think?

    • @lukasgruber1280
      @lukasgruber1280 3 месяца назад +1

      is there a reason it is not available or will it be in the future?

      @@lukasgruber1280 no it won't 🤷‍♂but you can always remake it with the tutorial hehe I made many many Industrial packs though that could sounds kinda like it.

      You can't set "stack" to "random" but you can set "mode" (below "stack") to "random." I assume this is what you meant. But now I wonder, should "stack" be changed from "off" to something else or no?

    • @Tonepusher
      @Tonepusher  3 месяца назад +1

      @ButterContest oh damn thanks for pointing it out haha yeah I meant MODE haha I left ''stack'' untouched!

      @@Tonepusher i know he used the polyvoks synth for sure. Have you looked at the sounds this synth can make? I use the reaktor simulation made by a community dev, i can probably get real accurate with that, it's super close to what the real synth sounds like, just a bit too perfect on the distorted filter but it's really subtle for general listeners.

    • @Tonepusher
      @Tonepusher  3 месяца назад +1

      @TachyBunker Yeah I know the Polyvoks hehe I'm constantly looking at used units. As soon as there's one close to me in Canada I'm buying it hehe
      Never heard of that Reaktor version! I'll check that out riiiight now haha

    • @TachyBunker
      @TachyBunker 3 месяца назад +2

      @@Tonepusher yeah it's a greatsynth all around, and sounds reallyunique. Look up "polyvoks demo song" it's really fun and you'll see how it was stylistically used, much differently than other synths that are polyvalent like the Moog. It's kinda like the Prophet-5 being used mainly for leads and arps, and Jupiter-8 for chords, it works best in a certain range.

    • @Tonepusher
      @Tonepusher  3 месяца назад +1

      @@TachyBunker I know that Behringer are working on a clone with the inventor of the Polyvoks. If they finally release it, I might get my hand on one, meanwhile im shopping for the real thing haha

    More Mick Gordon stuff would be great. Particularly how to do the sick guitar riff from this exact tune. Btw just subbed. Cool channel.

    Sounds bang on. What about doing that kind of bassy synth sound that's layered with the guitars in the doom tracks

    • @Tonepusher
      @Tonepusher  24 дня назад

      Could be a cool video, there's many bands right now that are layering guitars with synths.

    Algorithm was on point today, have been looking into Mick Gordon's masterpieces and learning serum. Sounds awesome! For those who don't have serum. Another good free plugin is Helm! Not as robust as Vital, but was a great tool to learn how to shape sounds

    • @Tonepusher
      @Tonepusher  3 месяца назад

      haha not a big fan of the algorithm, but now I have faith! haha
      Surprisingly it's the first time I hear about Helm, I'll check that out for sure!

    *I use something similar (more of a spooky lead) but I’m using a sine wave over a violin doing the same lead with a rotary effect. This sounds good to me.*

    • @Tonepusher
      @Tonepusher  3 месяца назад

      thanks man! and tbh that 3rd OSC that I added using the sub osc/sawtooth, I almost used a Sinewave instead. I'm pretty confident to say that there's some sort of Sinewave in the original sound.

    It is pretty close, not perfect but close. Dooms synth has this screaming kind of sound as with yours its just a synth. Still pretty cool!

    • @Tonepusher
      @Tonepusher  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks man, yeah I'm 100% aware that it's not EXACTLY the same. But I think that in a mix most people wouldn't notice the difference. Mick Gordon is practically inimitable hehe I totally get what you mean by ''screaming'' kind of sound though.

      I've been trying for over a year now to figure out how to replicate that. no progress. it straight up sounds like a long, slightly digital scream autotuned to the notes, to me

  • @3ilkh
    @3ilkh 3 месяца назад +1

    Thank you for your video, I'm a beginner with Serum and it's not very user friendly to start from zero with this vst but it's always a pleasure to follow your tuto's and try to do another sound with your exemple to start ! :D
    It's the first time I hear about Vital, I'll give it a try !

    • @Tonepusher
      @Tonepusher  3 месяца назад

      @3ilkh hey! np man :) Tbh if you already have Serum you don't need Vital. It's pretty much the same synth even though there's 1 more osc. Serum has MUCH more tutorials and resources online. The UI is different but at the end of the day they practically sound the same. You'll benefit more from learning serum first that's for sure.

    I think it would be pretty interesting to try recreating these types of sounds around with digital modules (as it gives complete freedom to control the sound) like cardinal for exemple, it's also fun and free to use!

      Never tried Cardinal, I'll check that out. But it's true that using "modular" could be interesting 🤔
