I'm shocked that they make you chart at the station, I can't imagine doing that. By the time we get back it could easily be 10-14 hours later and you're supposed to remember it all? All our chariting must be done before we clear the call as we're not likely to get another chance. Official policy is you have 20 minutes after patient handover to be back in service including cleaning/restocking/charting. As we're a rural service, on all but the busiest calls I can usually have my charting 80-90% complete before we get to the hospital, and whoever isn't charting can usually get the truck back in service by the time the other partner completes the charting. I'll also say, that truck looks ancient! maybe we just have different standards for trucks up here, but I feel we have a much nicer setup, kudos to you being able to work in that rig!
Agreed! the documentation is obviously very important but you'd think there would be an app out there by now that an EMT can log into and place all of the information into a sever on the road for the company. My first MCI we had 23 patients, and my clip board was spewing with notes and paperwork. The whole time I was thinking... " there has got to be a better way to do this"
@@mck3131 In our area we use a piece of software called Siren4 which is an electronic charting tool. It's on a touch screen laptop and it connects by cellular to a server. At the hospital we use one of the printers there to give a paper copy to the staff there, and the electronic copy is kept on the server for any future needs (billing, audits, etc). The hospitals are in the process of changing their computer systems though, so in theory the day is coming where we won't have to print it for them either, and they'll just access it electronically. There are other advantages too. If I enter the patient's name/DOB/health care number, I can pull up some information from past ambulance trips such as their allergies, medications, past medical history, and billing information. It's not the most user friendly system sometimes, but it beats doing it at the station for sure! (And although I definitely don't speak for all my co-workers, I think it beats paper too)
@@namelastname8471 that sounds horrible, I can't imagine typing all that on an on-screen keyboard. Someone higher up in our organization is insistent that we need tablets, so they got us convertible laptops that can function as a tablet, there is not a single person in the entire organization that ever undocks the keyboard. We just spend far too much time typing. We all wish they had just gotten us regular laptops instead of these convertible things the detachable keyboard is the biggest problem spot on any of them, all for feature that not a single person wants or uses.

Part of my gig at ZOLL is to, on a quarterly basis, put on a three hour session on the the EMS Industry for all of the new hires. The video you've created here will now be included in this session moving forward. You've provide a great, quick overview of the "job". Great work my friend. . . .
I just got my EMT this year. Unfortunately no rescue agency around me is hiring an EMT. Just medics. :( But I’ll continue to volunteer my fire/rescue agency!
Insane. The company I work in southern WV are in desperate need of EMTS.
Dadz SC2 In the part of VA I’m in, there’s mainly volunteer rescue agencies with one ambulance staffed by county fire fighter/ medics. There is one mixed agency and they’re only hiring medics.
if you find during your volunteering that this is realistic for you, go ahead and get that medic cert!
Try hospitals or even psychiatric
If EMS is your thing, go get your medic. You won't regret it.
I am struggling with what I want to do in life.. I need an occupation that is high speed. I love helping people. I love adrenaline. I love being on standby then jumping into a situation. So much to learn. I think this is the beginning of my medical career.
Maybe check out aviation as well...
TheWindigomonster whats in the field for helping others though ?
Did you start emt yet?
@@TheWindigomonster what's that?
@@Musihoodie Basically being a pilot
I was an emt for 10 years. Even took my nursing pre reqs. Decided I was done with the medical field. A very hard choice for me. I changed careers. Very happy with my decision and still feel fulfilled with what I did as an emt but that chapter of my life is now over. All you nurses, emts, medics, firefighters and police officers…stay safe out there!❤️
What field are you in now? If you don't mind me asking
I had to get EMT certified for my job and that shit sucked. Much respect for you guys.
for what job?
5:40 i love how all of the cars actually move away for the ambulance
I just started my EMT-B/AEMT program! I am so excited, and obsessed with watching these kids of videos!
Good luck. I took my course last year and just recently became certified.
@@shawnchristianson324 was the test hard?
@@Musihoodie I failed the first time because I didn’t study and take it seriously as I should have. The second time I studied and took some practice tests and passed. Just try not to overthink it. Find the answers that are clearly not correct, and eliminate them. That usually leaves you with a 50/50 shot. Good luck!
Thank you so much for this video. I am currently in training to be an EMT, and i hope to go on and become a paramedic. This was really insightful thank you
Absolutely adorable how he arrived at work and the rig wasn't being pulled out of the bay and the the crew he was relieving jumped off tossing him the keys saying he has a call and he actually had time to check off the truck! Where is this magical EMS land?
Looks like the typical day. I did my ride alongs with a Critical Care Paramedic unit in Wisconsin. Learned so much even with going in EMTB. But I wish you the best of luck in your Journey
Thanks my friend. Can’t lie life just seems horrible. I don’t know if I still want to be an emt or not now. But thanks for your service man
Thanks for the video, it’s much appreciated! It’s also nice to know how it’d probably be in my area, I recognized the roads haha. Maybe you were one of the medics that helped me a couple years ago, thank you for your service!
I am watching this because I want to get an idea of what it would be like to do this as a job whilst looking at college courses. Very helpful.
Thank you all you EMTs for your service. This was very educational. Great video!
Emergency responders calmly respond to emergency situations and calm down patients. I'm sure you're always nervous and tired, but thank you so much for running to save lives. I learned a lot. Always be healthy and respectful. I'll be rooting for you.
Your service and time and efforts are deeply appreciated thanks don't work to hard appreciate you guys job well done you should be proud good luck thanks ! Joe
I was wondering how your day to day has changed due to convid 19 thank you for your service
Thanks for everything you do. You save lives 🙏
Wow this is really helpful, amazing video, appreciate all what you guys do just so surreal, I'm so excited in starting my EMT training program in two months 🚑
Hey Joseph cool video. I`m a medic in Toronto, hope you're doing ok during CoVid. It is a huge challenge for us. Stay safe.
Frankly I'm surprised that thing can even turn on without someone hitting it with a hammer once or twice.
Never had time to fully check the rig. Log on at 6am and go 37hrs no breaks.
My day would start with an emergency tone at 0:15. Glad yours went well, though.
I start the EMS program at my community college next month and I’m so excited
That first call was far AF! There wasn't a closer EMT? That's crazy! I guess I'm just used to living in a big city (Phoenix) where there is a fire station or ambulance service on every block (lol)
Been doing this for nearly 10 years and I’d never promote EMS as a career. Decent bridge job, but anything longer than 4 years will drive you insane. #overworkedandunderpaid
I'm going to community college in about 3 weeks and I wanted to know if there is a note lucrative path that takes just as long to aquire. Not that i don't want to help people but I also want to move out of my mom's house and afford my own things
Hey, honestly depends on where you live. As a EMT basic in Atlanta starting pay for non emergency is around 15 hr, you’d be better served getting your AEMT and doing 911. With shift differentials and bonus pay you’ll be more comfortable.
Amr is 9-10 calls in a row then clock out 2 hours late then repeat. For minimum wage lol.
Preach
24 hours. 14 calls and a fucking late call in another county lmao
Where is AMR minimum wage? AMR Connecticut I know specifically Bridgeport starts at $19.65/ hour lol
@@robertlarosejr.1535 oh wow, im from Bridgeport, CT. AMR pays their EMTs here in FL $10.50 an hour. You literally have to work overtime in order to get by.

I am a lead at work, and with the way my days go I would never get rest as an EMT lol. It seems like every time I leave the floor at work something goes wrong or happens. One time I was off the floor getting ice and water and the fire alarm went off. I was like “I can’t even get water now.” I had to go back to grab the roster and make sure all my people were out lol
I'm 14 but my dream job is to be an EMT ❤ I truly sincerely hope I achieve that dream! I think it's so remarkable how EMTs can save people's lives. Thanks for the video! :)

If it's your dream job, go for it. It is both as rewarding as it is frustrating and stressfull. That being said, it is a very attainable goal. I'm sure it depends on your state, but you can easily become licensed within a matter of months. It's definitely not a job for everyone, but I've met pleanty of people who love it.
Zachary Dunn he can do whatever she wants lmao
it's an awesome job. I'm a firefighter EMT full time here in florida. There are guys here retiring with $100k per year pensions. Very rewarding job, itll make every other job seem menial. 24 on, 48 off. Best work schedule in the world. Take a day off and you have 5 days off in a row. Best job in the world. Follow your dreams. I quit my job and went to fire school at 31 years old. Best decision I ever made.
James Cundiff very inspiring. That is what I aspire to do. I also live in Florida and I started the EMT program on January 6th! I don’t look to be an EMT permanently because my dream job is to be a firefighter but obviously you have to get through the EMT program first. Wish me luck.
Just registered for an EMT course this year. This was a nice video for some reference.
I'm starting my program this month. So excited to become an EMT.
My day usually consists of taking buns to the waiting room and the elderly to their appointments. Occasionally get a sick person I actually take to the ER.
I finally finished getting all my papers (live scans, medical records, ambulance license etc) in order and can't wait to start working as an emt 😁
Jessica Perez how long was the process? Including the classes and everything
@@reesethegeese5295 it varies on how fast you can get things done my class was four months plus 24hrs at amr (make sure you got all your vaccines in check), but then you have to take nremt on your own, then a few weeks to months to get the rest of your papers in order
I just got done doing my tour as an EMT for me small hometown in Renovo PA I loved it and loved every minute of it did it for over 10 years time to move on good luck bro
I’m a paramedic for a service in Louisiana. Our service is one of the busiest in my area. A typical 12 hour shift, we run an average of 12-16 calls. 8 is a “slow” day for us! Crazy how different things are in other areas.
How much do you make I need to know to decide if being a Paramedic is worth it
Malcolm Burton it depends on where you’re located. We aren’t rich, that’s for sure. But if you’re in it for the money, don’t do it at all. You should be in it for the patients.
You must play on nightwatch
I’m used to working 24/48’s. However, I do work for a private service that offers 12’s. We stay pretty steady on our 24’s but once in a while, get a nap or two in. I work in East TN and 95% of services are ALS. Little different seeing a BLS response truck, it’s definitely not something that we are accustomed to.
Thank you so much for this - I start my class tomorrow morning at 8am. :)

I thought this would be cool but it looks like you don’t even earn a living wage doing this which is INSANE
Hey so I know this video was 4 years ago but for someone who is looking to become a EMT what would you recommend doing for high school classes?
Do a video on what it took to become a emt and the process please 😭 I want to eventually become one and I’m in Highschool and I wanna decide if this is what I wanna do ❤️🥺
I'm actually in the process right now and its not too bad. It's a 3 month program that is quite accelerated so I reccomend making it your only class! but after you pass the program you are able to register for a state registry test and from there you can go apply to numerous companies to become an emt. Once you have all your certs and get hired you get a 2week orientation training to refresh your skills and get practice for driving the ambulance and test on that as well!
Try to see if there's a job corps that helps you get your emt or can help you prepare you for it
Swaggerr 6190 I’m leaving feb 24th for job corps to learn to be an EMT I’m super excited
@Terilyn Martin I do not know where you live, but you need to be at least 17 and have a valid driver's license to work. Best to wait until you graduate.
Idunno why but the upside down XL gloves are bothering me. Great video for those who wanna learn a bit about what we do
Thanks for this video. I'm going to start the process soon
Im currently a high school senior, but I was wondering if I should take my EMT class over the summer at a community college before I go to univeristy or if I should wait.
Ander Naugle sounds like a solid idea
Take it over the summer so it’s out the way because university will take up all your time, making it hard to take the EMT class
These are the types of videos that I like!🚑🚑
What is charting , i want to be a paramedic and i have very good resources and schools etc and this seems very interesting and im learning a bit in each video i watch
Charting is essentially the legal documentation where you write everything describing the pt assessment and what treatment you provided.

Good luck with your medical future, and thank you for your valuable insight. 😊
Insane. The company I currently work at is in desperate need of EMTS
(And although I definitely don't speak for all my co-workers, I think it beats paper too)
Where I work we use an iPad so we get everything done right after we transfer patient care
@@Green__one I actually enjoy using an iPad lol I get my narrative and other work done shortly after transferring the patient 👍🏼 than again the company I work for only does IFT so it could be that my work is simpler than that of a 911 company

Does your station have sleeping quarters? At our station we run 24 hour shifts and we have one room with 4 bunk beds in it. P.S. I swear I love the damn stair chair!!!
Our station does not have beds, but some people bring cots and such for overnight shifts.
