- Hey guys! This is a day in the life of an EMT. Every day is different, but this gives you a glimpse into our typical day! I am a premed hoping to get into medical school next year and this has been an awesome experience to get hands on patient care. I have loved learning about the pre-hospital setting and how to provide quality patient care. I learn something new everyday and I highly recommend working as an EMT if you have the opportunity during gap years! I'm also a pre-med student working as an EMT! It was the best decision I've ever made as a pre-med. It's nice to know there are other non-traditionals out there :)

I’m one semester in with paramedic school. Looking to get my RN and BSN eventually. Emt has been so much fun! Wouldn’t change it for the world

I am currently an EMT/Driver for MedTech Ambulance out of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and I can say that the company that you worked for AMR runs very similar to how we run. EMT here in NY. I usually beg to eat and when I can’t due to the volume of 911 calls, I eat en route to the call 😂

@Rose Madder I'm still working for them. Just depends on the region. Some operations are good, some are bad. But it's really what you make it. Best of luck to you!

Haha yeah that’s rough! We had a large handful that were stuck as VSTs for a while bc they weren’t allowed to do their ride alongs due to COVID!

I work for an ambulance service. I am training as an emt. I do alot of inter-facilaty transfers. I do like 6 or 7 a day. Work 12 hour shifts. I love it. Can't wait for the upgrade. Best choice ever
Lol, you get breaks? Our break is a turkey sandwich en route to the next call . I'm with AMR in Ohio. Stay safe!

Having a dad that is a firefighter EMT it’s pretty cool to see the trucks roll out.
Just starting my emt course hopefully AMR takes me in for a job as a student!

That’s awesome, congrats! Both of those routes are awesome, maybe it will be more clear what you want to do after a few months of working as an EMT! It definitely helped me realize I really wanted to stick with premed :)

Thank you! Do you enjoy being a paramedic? That was always what I wanted to do before med school if I didn't get in this cycle. I was always so bummed that we have such a limited scope of practice as EMTs!

What do they train you on as a EMTB?
@@ahmadjrmuhammad5277 Quite a bit. We are trained in CPR obviously, but there is much more and it varies by state. In my state we are trained to give EpiPens, Inhalers, O2, nitroglycerin, basic pain relief and Benadryl. We are taught to assist in a birth, how to interact with other first responders basic human anatomy. How the EMS system works. Cardiology and Airway basics. Obviously how to load a patient when they need restrained how to restrain them ect.. How to deal with terrorist attacks, car accidents, falls and how to counsel someone who has just lost a loved one. These are a few things we learned. Don't be overwhelmed though slow and steady and its all pretty understandable

Being an EMT is pretty much dialysis transfers. Hospital to nursing home transfers. Dr appointments. An occasional on scene MVA which most likely end up on a refusal. Don’t have high expectations.

Hey I loved the vid! I was wondering how old you are? Cause u seem young and i want to become an emt as soon as possible (im 17 now). Also how did you find the job? Does the NREMT just automatically connect you with jobs or do you need to email hospitals or . . . ?
You don't have to email hospitals you can go to a community college and see if they have emt class and start doing that you might need a certificate tho to start some places require that you have one for probably highschool maybe

@@anthonyb5282 yeah same! Our car is IFT so we usually have some fire calls early in the morning or like last one of the day lol with IFTs in between

I'm a pre med right now and just started working for an IFT ambulance company. Are there any benefits to doing 911 vs IFT? Also, will med schools/PA schools care that you did IFT or 911?

Hi Maggie! Is there a brand of boots/pants you'd recommend?
Hi! I'm not sure what brand my boots were but they were like $40 on Amazon and they worked great! The pants were provided by AMR and as far as the pants I bought when I was going to EMT school and had to wear that type of pants.. I bought Under Armour pants and liked them a lot!

Hey! I"m not her obviously but you have to be an EMT-B before you become an Advanced EMT. So you'll have to work your way up !
I have a question for you:
What was the reason that you chose EMT and not other field?
It sounded the most exciting!
This guy I work with, who was working in EMS for about 13 years, told me that the Basic EMTs are the grunts of EMS. Basically, most of them work for a private ambulance company, transporting patients from their homes to the hospital, nursing homes to the hospital, etc; Then, even if they are hired in with 911 providers, the basics are the ones driving the ambulance and then cleaning out the back afterwards. How true is this for a Basic level EMT? This is all if you are not a Firefighter.
You got one fancy-ass rig, out here they pretty much use old van ambulances
@@xoNokz Not really. They are like the Walmart of EMS they are any and everywhere, and it's a great place to start working
@@xoNokz I mean it the field god people are so negative. It's a job, and it's an EMS position that helps you get o medic school. you just gotta deal with it
@slender169101 Lol, we have a whole range from brand new to really old that people call “twinkies” idk why buuut I have only had to drive one like twice
@DylanJ and obviously it’s personal opinion but not all AMR jobs are created equal. I have no doubt that some are really crappy because not all of them have a union. In my county we have a union so it’s not a terrible place to work unless you just despise the idea of staying in the rig for posting lol
@@xoNokz I am not talking out my ass I am talking form MY EXPRIENCE. Where I am most if not all medic schools require at least a year of experience as an EMT to even get looked at for medic school. And just talking like you are makes you sound unintelligent and like you think you're better than everyone. People use private EMS as a stepping stone into the service. Good for you you never had to go through the 1-year experience to become a medic kudos to you, but others have to do it. and private EMS for some is the only way.
So do you become an emt while in university and then after you grad you apply for med school?
You don’t have to work as an EMT first, just depends on the person when/if they get their clinical experience
Hi. How do you go about registering for an EMT program? Does NREMT accept virtual/hybrid courses? Due to COVID-19, that is the only available option in my area.
I just looked for EMT schools for my area. As far as whether you can take the NREMT, I would ask the school about that. They should know and give you the best answer!

So you don’t use the computer for navigating I ride on Als vehicles so for us it’s they’re always there if you want more experience come to Nevada

Can i become an EMT without a drivers license?
As far as I know, you don’t need a driver’s license to go to EMT school and get your NREMT certification, but you definitely need it to get hired and actually start working as an EMT
