Of course, the amount of RAM is determined by the work you do. If you are editing photos for the web or pure photo processing for a catalog of max 6-8 MP, then 8-16 GB of frame is enough. But if you're doing some complex photomontage, merging multiple photos into one with 10 or more layers of City light format or even larger, you don't even want to do things like that on a laptop and you need a minimum of 32 GB of RAM. How many times do you zoom in, or zoom out on such a small screen. You need to be very persistent and calm to get into such a job!
Question: what about heavy compositing work, like the type that phaserunner and benny productions do, apparently they can use up to 150 layers and a file can reach up to 1gb on average per artwork. Would you need higher ram to keep performance running optimally? Also do i need to keep in mind any other specs that might be needed for this heavy photoshop use. And great video Ben I always come to you when I need something explained 👍
I had a 4GB Acer laptop for Photoshop, Vegas Pro and Android Studio. They worked pretty well on it and pushed me through college. I don't know much about PC software performance, but shouldn't they be less demanding in terms of RAM nowadays?
i have a 32GB ram setup but my ram percentage drastically goes up as im using it. PS and LR both open gets my ram percentage usage to 80+%. I'm trying to figure out why is this happening.
I've been debating on whether to get a Mac Mini (M2) with 16-24 RAM, or splurge for a Mac Studio. I use Photoshop a lot, but also want to start making some video content. Nothing complicated, but I want to be able to do these things without them being sluggish. Do I need to go for the Studio or will the Mac Mini suffice? The mid-range Mini is $799, and the higher-end one (M2 Pro) is $1299. I could up the RAM on the mid-range one to 16gigs making the cost $999, or go for the higher-end one for $1299, but do I need those two extra cores? I want my money's worth without having to break myself.
I just spent money on 64GB as I am web designing with photoshop and illustrator open at the same time, plus chrome and firefox are also memory hogs. The software kept crashing on 16gb as soon as I opened adobe software
16 gb ram for illustrator is a nightmare, keeps crashing (crashes the whole computer cause I'm a power Chrome, user with multiple tabs) so I went and bought 32 gb ram. Hopefully illustrator won't crash my computer anymore.
so 1) Gaming laptops are better to use than nonGaming laptops for media creation ? ie Photoshop usage ? 2) it looks like improvement of 64GB over 32GB starts to roll off, so 128GB wont provide much help ? 3) two of your data look wrong/weird , especially Aero 64GB, its worse than Aero 32GB ??!! i have a very big problem about photoshop consuming all of my ram. im always working on a 4-3gb file, it consumes almost 90% of my ram which is 32GB. ive been searching all thru web but cant find any solutions. all tutorials is leading me to clean/delete temp files, etc.. but it wont help. my pc spec is: ryzen 7 3700x 32gb 3200mhz 1tb nvme m.2 ssd rtx2070 any help is appreciated, thankyou!
Really nice comparison and nice animation 💪🏻

No because filesizes and megapixels sizes have increased, that’s what’s using 🐏
More plugins and more features = more ram usage
I've been using 8gb of rams for months on photoshop and as photoshop continues to update it demands more ram, now I'm forced to upgrade to 16gb
Performance differences to VRAM would be interesting
My Photoshop is using 60% of ram. Thats the only thing opened up also. I have my res set to 7680x7680 @10000ppi. My ram is 32gb @6200mhz

What resolution is set on the display? Check taskmanager, which program is sucking how much ram?

Have you ever looked into the differences within MacBooks specifically? Especially the new m1pro/max Macs?

Won’t I need to buy ram with the same MHz my laptop uses
Or MTs
If I buy the hp pavilion 15 gaming and use it for 3-4 hours a day for light gaming and college. How many years do you think it will last Me?

Those specs should be running photoshop like butter, are you sure it’s PS that’s pulling your ram and not something else?

64gb of ram is the minimum requirement
probably should go download more ram
RAM is there to be used...
You forgot to mention on the 3200mhz cl16 memory that in order to get cl16 you will need to put the ram into XMP profile that most laptops dont have.
How does one do that
@@andrewphoto4750 If you have a MSI laptop, press left alt, right control, right shift and F2. For look up how to on youtube.
You look a lot like Peter Andre.
