    I really like to watch your KonMari journey. I've also read the book and what helps me most are the folding techniques. Now I can see the whole content of my drawers at one glance and I don't "forget" things that I own because they are buried under my other clothes.
    I am really bad at letting things go. So going through all of my clothes only once and getting rid of all the things I didn't like didn't work for me. Now I declutter my drawers every season and think about what I liked and what I didn't like (and why!). As I am giving away more than I buy, the amount of clothes I own gets smaller and smaller and it gets easier for me to let things go.
    Now I own less than a quarter of the things I used to own two years ago. And it feels great :)

      Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words! :) I also love the folding technique for the exact same reason that you mentioned! It is so great being able to open up my closet now and to be able to see everything, because 1) I don't forget about things I own, and 2) I feel like I am showing more gratitude and appreciation for the things I own, because they are all visible and on display. I talk a little about that in my next video (the companion video to this one) as well. I am also extremely sentimental and bad at letting things go! Even ordinary "everyday" items are hard for me to let go of sometimes, because I somehow am able to make anything seem sentimental. I absolutely think that I will be decluttering again as well! It sounds like you have a really great system going for you! Thank you for sharing some thoughts about your journey, I loved hearing from you! :)

    Tell me about YOUR decluttering experiences! I would love to hear :)
    I decluttered my closet yesterday using the KonMari method, and I wanted to share my journey. I will be making another video sharing some more details on my thoughts and the steps I took, but I hope this was interesting. I was really shocked at how much clothes I had (some even over 10 years old), and although I still do not have what I would consider a minimal wardrobe, I felt like this was a step in the right direction, and I can honestly say that everything I kept really does make me happy! Isn't that what life is really all about anyways, finding happiness? :)

    Love this video! I like your question about if you would buy what you have again in the store, I want to try that in my next declutter and see what happens. Also as you grow your sources of joy will change; I found that even months after I did my first KonMari declutter I was able to get rid of almost 50+ more things from my wardrobe even when it seemed I didn't have a lot left. My feelings toward my wardrobe definitely evolved and differed over time after beginning my minimalist journey :)

    • @jeanettemerstrand8851
      @jeanettemerstrand8851  7 лет назад +2

      Yes, that question as well as several others really helped me as I was decluttering! It was hard for me sometimes to feel whether or not an item "sparked joy," so I had several other key questions I would ask to help myself out :) I like what you said about going back and decluttering again, and I definitely think that I will be doing the same. I think you are completely right that feelings evolve, and I also think that our ability to determine what we truly love or not sharpens over time! Thank you so much for your comment and for sharing your thoughts! I love hearing about other people's experiences!

    This video was so helpful, thank you! I am also reading the book and need to do this in my own closet. I appreciate that you not only asked yourself if a piece sparked joy, but also if it was something that you would want to buy and if it will help you achieve your desired lifestyle. Great job! :)

    Hi there - I am now a Subbie. I recently cleared out some things that don't fit or I have had for a long time. I have about 8 pairs of jeans that I wear every day. I wouldn't say they bring me joy- but I do need them. When summer comes and I take those clothes down from the attic I will definitely purge some of those too. Now I have to get my boyfriend on board! My kitty does the same thing - if I just take things off my bookshelf to dust it she hops right on! I must say you are beautiful - you seem like a nice person as well. Your channel name shows you are also humble and that is very nice to see. Looking forward to more videos. :-)

    Wow! Your wardrobe is tiny compared to mine. I have clothes in like five places and I really need to organize them again. Great vid, music was a bit distracting but your on your way to a neater lifestyle! Keep up the good work!

    Completely unrelated, but you are the blonde twin of Amy Adams, and you sound like her too! Now back to my original point, you did a good job, I was encouraged to uncluttered my closet, keep up the good work.

    I love your videos. I have been trying hard to declutter, I have to I can be a hoarder and I have been in that situation so I have to watch myself. I have watched so many videos of people living out of back packs.I never will be able t do that and in reality I have no need to but I have to keep myself in check. I have like 65 clothes items which I love. I used to at one time have 200 so I have improved lol I try to get rid of at least 2 trashbags full of stuff a month, household and clothing. I have to.and also not bring stuff in to replace it. I like the hippie/boho style so my house looks lived in I cant live in a sterile environment and 3 pairs of pants and 3 shirts. It works for some people but some people it doesnt. I think it is about moderation. My big thing now is my art and crafts supplies I have to organize it. I have one side of my bedroom cluttered and yes it does effect me,so that my priority to de clutter. I just feel bad I cant get my stuff down to a at least a carload,but like I said I dont have to. I do move alot so it is to my best interest to get rid of alot but still have enough to be happy and balanced.

      Thank you so much for sharing part of your decluttering experience with me, I really enjoyed reading about your experience, and I am so glad that you enjoy my videos! I probably have about 200 pieces of clothing now! Haha. I haven't counted them though, but I love what you wrote about being mindful also about bringing new things in in addition to what you are decluttering! I think that is so important! I feel the same as you- living out of a backpack though it seems like a wonderful and exciting adventure, doesn't feel necessary or sustainable to ME at this point in my life. It is beautiful how minimalism can be so individualized, and how each person practicing minimalism can still preserve their own style- I love it! Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and for watching and commenting!

    I also ask if it's useful, and how many I need. For example, I brew my own kombucha, so I have a lot of glass bottles to put it in, and I need those. However, I have too many, so I am going to upcycle the extras by using them to create a grass barrier in my yard around my new grape vine, by burying the bottles halfway in a circle around the plant.

    Ok .. Now I'm embarrassed!.. All the clothes u put on your bed.. Is how much I SAVED AFTER I. decluttered😕.. I'm American, so I will admit, Americans have ridiculous amounts duplicate & useless things we think we need (I had 7 spatulas, really?)
    .. Ok maybe its universal.. Lol

    • @jeanettemerstrand8851
      @jeanettemerstrand8851  7 лет назад +6

      Haha, I definitely think owning duplicates and useless things is universal! I have the same problem often! I actually have more clothes to go through stored at my parents house though, and this time around I ended up keeping quite a bit of clothes as well, but I would rather hang on to a little bit too much and then declutter again later than to find that I really regret getting rid of something, or that in the rush of things I decluttered something really useful! :) I'm trying to just focus on happiness through this entire process, and it really is such an individual journey for each person, so no matter how many items we still own, if we are moving towards becoming happier and living lighter- I'd call that a success! Thank you so much for watching and for your comment, it made me smile :)
