    The attachment of the cable is done thru a hole about 4 feet above the bottom of the inner pipes. This prevents the cable from being able to lift the inner pipes up enough that they could pull out or to the top and wedge or jamb against the lower pipe. The cable is secured inside the inner pipe by a ball or wire clamp.

    I live in the country and need to build this for cellular service for my Wilson booster. Nice straight forward concept.

    When you take it down for maintenance, weld an inner "sleeve" piece of slitted pipe inside the top 12" portion of the larger pipe to stop the inner pipe from wobbling inside of the "mother" pipe. Just a thought. 👍

    I really like your crank-up tower... Missed your pulley and cable explanation first time ( dear wife was asking me about extraneous BLAH and I killed the sound to hear her) Now I can see how it works!

    The sleeves are to double the wall thickness and distribute stress at the joints, for stability.

      For future reference, I've just been watching this video about removing internal weld seams on tubing. If you're making another mast this may help. ruclips.net/video/ozSE7Wrdb1o/видео.html

    There is little to no wobble as there is a 4' length of pipe "" overlap "" and thus no room to move about plus the tension cable loads it to one side, Woody

    There several hundred $$ invested, but its sturdy, lasts and 50 ft is a bunch. Tried surplus poles, heavy weak and did not last a wind. They splintered at 40+ ft height, collapsing.

    One 10 ft section of 2.5 inch EMT is 43 dollars at Graiger. You could sink some money in this guy.

    Flux welder is a welder. My mig'ging was easy as the metal is 1/8 th in. Thick, no burn thru etc. Enjoy. Ww It up stable and have not had to touch it since, rotor works well, I did guy it as the wind wants to twist the center section as it hanging on the SS wire, so I torqued it to one side with a dacron rope.

    Neat idea. Curious as to how "sloppy the fit /floppy the mast" would be without the guys. What I would like to do is only go up 35' but without guys for portable temp (2 -4 hour) operations supporting at most a small 6m beam.
    Neat idea!!!!

    I like this one best of all the DIYers!
    If you could pin all the pipes together with it lowered the same wench could tilt the tower over? Of course the wench would have to be on a pulling post. or at least routed to a pulley on a pulling post.
    How do you fasten the cable 4 ft off the bottom of each pipe?

    Masts are doing great. Thinking of doing a heavy one to hoist a beam to 40 or 50 feet. My 860' horiz. Loop antenna has 2 masts now n 2 trees for support. The hinged base with the pipe hinge is the best so far n ill use that on future efforts. See my qrz page under my call sign N4MQ. Enjoy. Woody

    I'm editing to ask a question. What keeps the inner sections from hanging on the reinforcing sleeves you used to strengthen your welds when you lower the mast?

    Where the cable goes over the pulley i cant see how it goes thru the pipe. Did you cut a slot ? I would be concerned about cable abrasion as it goes thru the slot. I'm sure you have thought of that, i just cant see how it goes thru without scraping against the outer pipe.

      I think you paint it dark grey and only deploy after dark and stow before sunup. Best DX is in the middle of the nite anyway. I've daydreamed about cutting a hole in the roof and putting a telescoping pole in there thru a weather boot. My antenna would be just above the roof 'til deployed.

    • @woodyw6933
      @woodyw6933  5 лет назад

      Cable went down outside of tube and near bottom into the tube with a wedge shaped hole capturing the cable end (ball end) inside. There was minimal clearance betweeb inner n outer tubes, attachment needed to be minimum thickness. Ww

    • @woodyw6933

      I dont understand the question, the support cables prevent the poles from rotating, Woody

    • @AftabJee1
      @AftabJee1 3 года назад

      @@woodyw6933 I made this like perfect you saw in your video. But the very upper one pipe is rotating when heavy wind blowing.

    • @AftabJee1
      @AftabJee1 3 года назад

      Pole guy wires perfectly working. But in iron round supporting in pipe for holding the pole does not working for which results the rotation of pole from upper side. And my wifi device angle disturbed

    • @woodyw6933
      @woodyw6933  3 года назад +1

      I suggest the guys wires be attached firmly to the top pole to prevent it for rotating. the guy ropes will eliminate its freedom to rotate. I use it to support a wire antenna and that prevents it from rotation as the wire pulls it to one side only. WW

  • @woodyw6933
    @woodyw6933  2 года назад

    THere is enough spacing between the pipes to allow the stainless cable to move easily, the cable pulls up the inner pipe from the bottom and tilts the pipe just a bit AWAY from the cable aiding motion, and stainless is tough. the pulley feels the cable into the gap so it misses the outer pipe edge. I did the same thing with a 53' square box steel mast for my masts, much heavier and it works well. see:: ruclips.net/video/6vZe0tXuV1w/видео.html merry christmas Woody
