    About Us
We are Becka and Zach, a couple who, in 2020, dreamt of sailing off into the big blue. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane.
However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on.
We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit

Small tip, rather than fighting with cotter pins, reach for your side cutters and cut the rounded end off. Then the two legs pretty much fall out. Only reuse cotter pins when desperate.

Great job. We did exactly the same with our ketch - took off our wires, put the new ones up and tthen had the rig professionally checked and tuned. All good, and don't wish to worry you, but did you have all your S/S attachment plates checked? Ours all looked good but on our first big passage from San Diego to Cabo a masthead plate, which looked good, fractured and we lost our forestay and shredded our brand new genoa. I'm sure you've thought about it and checked them all but feel compelled to mention it if it saves someone else from experiencing our disaster 🤪.. All the best.

Following your adventures, challenges and heroic learning curve brings me back to when we first took the leap of faith!! Your locations (so far) and the various jobs you're tackling are exactly the same! Your communication and mutual respect will take you both VERY far.....
I do hope you plan to visit the San Blas Is. en route to the Canal? I would have spent another season there, but we were ready for the Pacific. The Kuna Indians are incredible, the ladies embroidered molas are intricate and beautiful. The celebration on Tigre Island is well worth going, but may be more popular now than 12yrs ago (The one thing that seems very different from our adventures is there seems to be so many more boats) The anchorage is quite small. And bring a gift for the kids... the football and crayons we brought were a big hit and immediately pressed into service. We stayed a while in Banedup which at the time was uninhabited. I could go on and on😊.... sorry!
Thank you for documenting what you're doing, and for not falling into the "shiny happy people" exaggerated edits syndrome that so many of the, mostly U.S., RUclipsrs seem to get into. Looking forward to your next video.
    Thanks again. Jan

Truly a lovely episode incorporating AG1 as one sponsor. Such amazing editing combined with positively epic editing makes this rerigging video a must see for anyone interested with DIY extensive sailboat cruising enthusiast's. We thank you both so much for explaining the pitfalls of stainless wire rigging and turnbuckle adjustments on your mast. Remembering to use a common penetrating oil as 3/1, WD40, or penetrol prior to disassembly was a game changer as these seasoned sailors swapped stay and shrouds being hampered by Tropical rains and clevis pins engineered in abstract dimensions. Pitted aluminum shroud guides were systematically replaced with plastic fulfilling their need. Marvelous, we thank you both for sharing a commonly necessary maintenance procedure and can't wait for future adventures aboard Teulu.

Pretty good on you measurement estimate. As it turns out, 13 mm is slightly larger than half inch. For wrenches you can interchange 12mm and 1/2 inch. If the wrenches are high quality and you pay close attention the tolerances will tell you of a mismatch. But they can interchange.
As for time estimates, it could be worse. Software often takes 4 to 5 times the estimate.

I just love the way you guys say “vitamin & aluminum”, I didn’t realize it’s a way of being able to tell where someone was raised or where they lived until I started watching sailing videos and hearing the same words over & over from virtually everyone, no matter what Country! I’ve been wondering about AG-1 and if it’s really as noticeable a physical & mental feeling of “well-being” as it seems to be in everyone’s videos. Is it? Does it really give you more energy? I also asked someone else, who never answered if you can take (drink) AG-1 on a empty stomach or do you need something on your stomach first? Regular vitamins that aren’t water soluble (like Iron, minerals) make most people sick…

Its funny how english speakers can say words so differently. While this is sponsored we have notice some improvements, Becka raves about her stomach feeling better due to the probiotics and I definitely notice a kick of energy after drinking it in the mornings. You should really use Stainless Steel tools for the Stainless parts. Or a brass brush, not a steel one. And your spreaders look quite corroded. At least use some isolation paste with stainless in contact with alloy.

You don’t want to use stainless steel wire for mousing wire. The correct mousing wire is Monal wire. Monal an alloy which is more malleable than stainless but it is completely corrosion resistant in seawater. It’s also used to make the best keel studs because it doesn’t suffer from crevice corrosion like stainless steel does. Stainless steel relies on the presence of oxygen to create a surface layer of inert oxide that prevents it corroding. However if the stainless is in stagnant water or mud or any oxygen free environment it can corrode and fail. You should be able to fine Monal mousing wire in any good Chandlery or rigging company. Cheers and fair winds.

If your swagelocks are tight all you need to do is check for wear om your pins and do an NDT on your turnbuckles and coupling plates. Don't want to sound like a party pooper but you used 13mm pins in a half inch holes which is 12.7mm hence they wouldn't fit, thats OK if the hole had been accurately machined but using a drill or dremmel the is no way you created an perfect 13mm circular hole.
This will create point loading on the fittings, that can lead to stress cracks forming on the fittings you drilled / dremmeled...

Hi Becka and Zach. As a now retired Engineer, I hate having to work with Metric stuff, having spent most of my life working with Imperial measurements. The fact I can work in both standards, doesn't make it any easier, when I think and work in Imperial. Yards instead of Metres; Feet and Inches instead of Centimetres and Decimetres; Miles instead of Kilometres. Trouble is, a lot of the people I know are younger than I am and grew up with the Metric system, so I'm forever having to do calculations of the fly, then trying to explain things to them. AARRGGHHH!!!! I know how Zach feels about those Clevis pins. Half an Inch is 12.7 mm, whereas standard Metric sizes are not compatible; the nearest Metric to Half Inch being either 12 mm or 13 mm. And that's without all the other Engineering Standards, such as AF; ANC; Whitworth; BSF; BSP; BA; UNC; UNF; ISO Metric Fine; ISO Metric Coarse and a few others besides. And to add to all that, they use four different Thread types in your everyday Computer. Enough to give anybody the screaming abdabs, when trying to find the correct nut, bolt, screw or washer, for something you're trying to service, or repair. Anyway, glad to see you finally got it sorted, even if it did take you 2 weeks, instead of the expected 3 or 4 days. Onwards and upwards. Just a shame you didn't tell us how much the final bill was. I think we would all have been interested. Fair Winds and Following Seas. Russ, Pompey. UK.
