Finally got a duoR about five years ago and have been very impressed. Filters are rock solid. Only think I don't particularly like is all of the knob pushing and the fact that there is no PBT or NOTCH...
It's not completely unusable as a standalone receiver - you wouldn't want to use it that way every day - but now and then it's absolutely fine. Much better with the FDM SW2 software.
Excellent you’re back up and running with the Elad again … I know when I saw your nice red TX version I was immediately drawn to your videos and subsequently picked one up up second hand, a black transceiver version with the accompanying speaker and always get contacts on it and predominately use it stand alone as opposed to using with the PC. Although I’m not a DX’er the receive is excellent and I also get good audio reports. Definitely don’t get to switch on everyday but I have a few low power and QRP radios and the Elad is most certainly the most enjoyable to use. Since you shared your new purchase I have connected to the PC and used the multi-receiver option it’s very good and although I don’t think the software has been updated much over recent times it’s still great to use… yes the radio is a bit quirky but radio is a hobby it needs to be fun 👍.. looking forward to your next post 👌
Hi there, thanks for your comments - and really nice to hear there might have been a little inspiration from me resulting in you getting one of these! Yes, they're really nice little rigs and superb on RX for sure. The software hasn't been updated very much over the years, but I love the simplicity of it. More posts coming - next one is 'what's in the box'! 73
You were the reason why I bought my ELAD receiver in the first place I can’t remember how long I’ve had mine but it has been a while. I never really see mine too much because it’s buried in the back of my equipment surrounded by wires and I just use the software 100% of the time. I hope in the future video you go into depth about the connections on the rear of the radio and some of the filters you can buy if they are still available👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Hi there, great to hear I provided some inspiration for the purchase of your Elad! I'll try to remember to do a video covering the rear panel connections etc. 73
It’s certainly not a looker but if you’re saying it is as good as it is I’m very tempted. Would you say the receiver has the edge over the transceiver version on RX as I quite fancy the best of both. Thanks
Official sensitivity spec.on HF is superior on the Icom, but in reality I can't separate them. I'm planning to doing some comparison videos - when I can figure out how to best pipe the audio. 73
@@OxfordShortwaveLog Great that would be super doing a side by side comparison , That radio is quite sharp looking would look nice in my Shack .. thanks 73 tu
I'll probably record a video introducing the idea to my subs - showing the set up etc. Then I'll record the comparisons using various target signals. 73
I have my duor from 2019 used daily and installed the VHF preselector it's now being used at a remote site over sdrc as you say it's native software is the best, also have an 8600 very little in them but to use as a hands on radio the 8600 beats it all day long, the duor isn't great without the software I found
Cheers Stuart, it is quite complicated to use, but worth the effort because it's right up there with the best in terms of absolute sensitivity and selectivity.
As you also have the R8600, I wonder if you can advise me on whether moving the tension adjuster tiny (barely visible) protrusion just below the main dial; moving or sliding across the abut 30º arc, if this needs any technique. It is the only function not explained (possibly expected to be intuitive) in the Instruction Manual, and I do not want to exert any undue force. Thank you.
The Elad is very clean looking radio. Must be a lot of fun tuning around. Thanks for the introduction of this radio.
You're very welcome! 73
A big round of applause. clint have a good weekend sir
Thank you Sir! Have a great weekend yourself. 73

Thanks for your comments - agree on the front panel interface, but better that than just a box. 73
Great video, just found your channel. Subscribed.
Thank you, Rick and welcome! 73
I'm not sure why RUclips recommended this to me, but it was interesting nonetheless.
how funny me too cheers!
Thanks - I'd like to think it's because my channel is so amazing lol - who knows, but welcome anyway!
@@OxfordShortwaveLog Well I stayed and watched the entire video so you're doing something right. Thank you for the welcome.
That's great to hear, thank you so much!
Great upload, Clint. How unusable do you find it as a stand-alone tabletop receiver without using the computer with the Elad software?

I don't think this radio is available in North America. Am I right?
I'm not sure - try Elad on the web direct perhaps David. Cheers!

Hi, no I'm sure the RX is exactly the same on both versions. It's right up there with the best - probably the most sensitive receiver in my shack. 73
How does this radio Compare to the Icom IC R8600 ?
Official sensitivity spec.on HF is superior on the Icom, but in reality I can't separate them. I'm planning to doing some comparison videos - when I can figure out how to best pipe the audio. 73

Great stuff, thanks for your comments. Agree, it's much easier to use with the FDM SW2 software. 73!
has noise reduction ?
Hi yes it does.
Is there much on 90m 120m?
There are a few broadcasts but not much going on these days. 73
I’ve just bought one of these and also the ICOM IC R8600. It’s a complicated little rig to learn that’s for damm sure.

I'll have a look later and report back if I can work it out. 73
@@OxfordShortwaveLog Thank you
I tried moving the lever, but even with quite a lot of force it wouldn't budge, so I think I'm going to leave it as-is!
Interesting question. You have no challenge from me....I've only had mine since about 2020. 73.
Cheers!
If you want company and rig buddies buy a 7300. :)
LOL
