Another great build and video Craig! And thanks for the bumper music! Off-topic - tell us about your arcade console that is always running in the background! - Aaron - W1ATB
I've been dying to talk about that arcade cabinet, but couldn't work it into the Ham Radio theme, but, if a great Patreon like yourself suggests it, I probably should crack it open in a video :)
Ham Radio Tube by K8MRD just did a video on the QMX from QRPLabs on 10/30/24. That radio pairs so nicely with a digipi. The QMX (and QMX+ in my case) have instructions for FT8 which tell you to select a specific Kenwood radio, works over a single USB-C (“Build A”), and you can have a tiny kit without needing a laptop.
Your project is great and simple. The payment method is not. I don't want a patreon account and recurring software subscriptions. It is a shame you can't just buy the software some other way.
Cool stuff. Thanks. The FT2980 is mono band not dual band. 😉II have two 2980s, but moved to the FTM6000. It'll do 9600 baud and high speed VARA FM via the dedicated data port.
I was going to point out about the FT-2980R also, that's not a dual band radio. I can't understand how he could have mistaken it when he was literally holding it in his hand? Maybe too much playing his violin.
Curious, and have been trying to figure it out for a few days now with no luck so hopefully there is an easier answer if I ask. To start LOVE this and appreciate all the work you all have done and makes life nice that I can run WSJT-x from my couch upstairs while spending time with my wife rather than in front of my rig. But the question, is it possible to connect to FLRig over a local network and not just on local host (127.0.0.1:12345)? Would love to point a wsjt-x on my Mac to the digirig running FLRig on a port, but am so far failing. Thanks to anyone who may have info and not be as new to this as I am...
I’m wondering if the device can use the data received from the radio to map the location of a received radio. I am referring to the Vero, Radioddity, and assorted Baofengs that are using the APRS protocol for latitude and longitude. I’d like to see the projection on Google Maps or other mapping software. Can the device support this application now ?
Nope ;) We need DigiPC. DigiPi is for the ARM architecture (not x86 which I think is what you're referring to when you say "PC"). So, raspberry Pi only at this time.
With DigiPi 1.9-2 you can select one of three screen types on the Initialize page (which works once). If you're handy, you can also edit localize.env indicating st7789, ili9341, or ili9486. or... reflash/Initialize
Not out-of-the-box. It requires a special PTT line at the end of each direwolf .conf file for the CM108 chip in DigiRig Lite. (DigiRig Mobile is fully supported).
hello, im having a few issues, ive downloaded an flashed the sd card no problem, im using a pi 3b+ with a 7 inch screen, but its asking for a login user name and password? this ive sorted. i would a screen shot but cant. i used my pc, and completed the initiation of the software, and once ive hit complete bit my pc now cant access digipi a point would be greatly appreciated. 73`s mw0mpd
@MW0MPD please unplug that monitor and keyboard, then checkout digipi.org and follow the instructions there. The first thing you do is look for a "DigiPi" wifi hotspot on your phone.
@russelThomas This gets asked quite a bit, and VARA is a fascinating technology, but it's closed source and I don't see a legal way to redistribute it. Additionally it's windows-only on x86.... not Linux/ARM. Incredibly it runs under multiple emulators, but you need a Pi5. For HF winlink, I highly recommend the included, open-source ARDOP protocol.
Do you know an easy way to find your USB device file? I know it's lsusb /dev/something* or something like that. It's there an easy way to figure it out?
Almost have me sold. I have a 991a and a pi 5 as I said. I have a MacBook Pro with usb cable. I also have ipad and iPhone. What is the purpose of the OTG adapter?
Completely understood, keep in mind the "DigiPi Hat" from elekitsorparts.com is solderless. The only build is the cable (screw terminals). The DRA-Pi-Zero adapter uses off-the-shelf cables from DigiRig.... no solder and very little assembly.
Not just yet, but I have M17 Florida-Man-Edition working over audio/SDR. What transceivers are you using that don't trash the signal with eq/emphasis? I still don't have a full packet going over RF yet.
Awesome videos! Your guitar bumpers are inspirational! Your attitude and eloquence makes me want to move back to California! Should I assume that the Yaesu FT-891 is a "Type B" even though it has a USB port? Though, I'll confess, I didn't see two different options on the 1.9.2 page...
@@craig9309 yeah, I have the DR891 for that rig, and a couple DR Mobiles for my 857 and HTs, and a DR Mini which I'm having a devil of a time to get to cooperate with the PI. Oh! Still the best bumper music on RUclips! Thanks for all the hard work!
Thanks for all the hard work and 1.9 release! Now I don't have to comment out display types.
Thanks!
thanks for the support! really!
Thanks yet again Craig for an awesome release! Will be testing tomorrow :)
Got mine on my 7300 without the screen, I can sit there with the table and do digital all day. I play with Winlink. I love it!
Great Video again, would be nice to have the Initialize option more then once. Another big wish is to see an live APRS map. Thanks for the hard work!
Recently joined, and I'm looking forward to booting it up for the first time!

I'd like to think uncle Ted would be into ham radio? He's a survivor.
Stranglehold - great tune
Wow Another fantastic video thanks 73 from kb2uew
Brilliant!
I can't get my IC-705 CAT control working, do you have a video on that? The FT8 app opens in my browser OK but no control. Decoding OK. Thks
Best intro music ever!

Anyone know if the DigiPi works on the QRP Labs QDX or QDM transceivers?
Great job with the project
Im waiting for delivery the digipi , I have buyed 3 weeks before - waiting is so hard ;-)
Need to figure out a way to update without having to rewrite sd card every time would be great addition!

Possibly? or via rigctld, both are network-controlled. the question is how you'd get audio?
Is there another way to purchase the digipi?
