    It’s not just that Doug is popular, you guys do yourselves a disservice thinking that. You and Doug have the best chemistry together, it’s not an interview it’s a couple of friends shooting the shit for a few hours. It comes across in the videos, I think that’s why when he’s on the views are so much higher.

    • @LilleyAdam
      @LilleyAdam 6 месяцев назад +11

      Actually thinking about this more, I think my main issue with Doug's videos is his overwhelming enthusiasm talking to the camera about the cars while they are parked. As an Australian that just rubs me wrong, because we are generally deprecating people. But that same enthusiasm works SO damn well in his conversation.

    ive heard the chinese government subsidizes the production and sales of EV's. from what ive heard the companies will build the cars for less than the subsidy, then sell it to a third party company they own. without the sale they dont get the government money. thats why there are many fields in china with sold EV's just parked. so for example: government offers $20k per car. they build it for 10k, "sell" it for 20k, park it it a random field. pocket the 10k. rinse repeat.

    The A-Class thing is really funny. I always love listening to you guys and a lot of the US based car media types talking about these crazy euro cars they are seeing on the internet or on Holiday that they desperately want because they are so cool, so small, with tiny petrol engines (or diesels!) and manual gearboxes. Peugeots, and Fiestas and Polos and all the other stuff. Here in the UK and Europe we can literally see that junk just by looking out of any window of any building. Its the cars we learn to drive in, the cars our mums and Grans have and the cars we yearn to get away from into something 'proper'. I was amused by a facebook group the other day that was a huge circle jerk over a manual gearbox, estate, MkIV Golf, as if it was the second coming of christ. That is the kind of car you use to to take rubbish to the tip in, in the UK/Europe, if you are too poor to buy a transit van.
    Meanwhile, however - show up in the UK or Europe with literally, the biggest POS anything by GM/Ford/Chevy with a V8 in, the absolute height of naffness which you lot wouldnt not even turn your head to look at - and over here its 'oh shit, a V8! Woah! Look at it go! The sound!" etc etc...
    All things are relative, we will always want what we dont have. I guarantee you every single one of those people doing the 9-5 at the DMV for minimum wages dreams of one day being their own boss or running that restaurant too! Great entertainment guys, keep it up.

    ahhh the crazy car experience. my favorite. it doesnt have to be an old supercar.... peoples totally overkill project cars are this way too. especially if you built it yourself and have owned it for like 20 years and still daily it alot of the time.

    I'm surprised on the "Starting via keypad" conversation Doug didn't bring up the citroen Xantia he reviewed

    Peugeot 306 had a keypad security system, the keypad was in the center console and you had to enter a 4 digit code to get the car to start.

    Great show! Will always click on a Doug/Smoking Tire show, although a little bit concerned about Doug's eating habits now! ;-)

    LOL, white Reece's cups... I got my hands on multiple boxes at the original promotional launch (I had contacts lol) back in 2004. Ate multiple packs a day. The first pack was amazing... by day three they made me want to throw up. Waaaaay too rich for me. Doug seems to survive on sugar and fat tho so he probably can eat them forever. He's got the Randy Marsh body.

    Two things. 1) you haven't done glutinous until you have a 1/2 lb Reese's Cup. 2) I've seen a Harley towing a Prowler trailer before, driving through Illinois

    Commissioned cars are NEEDED. Most cars I like, I want a wagon version of anyway. Even with the Lucid. Especially with the Lucid. So might a shop be able to make a wagon from the Gravity's rear door and the sedan? Imagine the Sapphire WAGON. Wide body, if you missed it. And handling well, according to some.

      I'd consider lowering the Gravity, but dropping the roof won't work, glass is already low. Need to drop the door and everything. I love renders of S Class and EQS wagons. Just a bit bigger. Like a lowered R-Class, which to me isn't ugly.

    My first car was an 02 explorer xlt v6 (4.0) 4wd and it was an awesome truck. I too have very fond memories adn had 3 transmissions in 100k miles and dumped it when it started slipping again. Other than the trans, very reliable and well built. Was my brother's first car, then mine and we beat the piss out of it. Would go over curbs at 30 for fun and blast through 5' high frozen snow berms. It was a good truck and gave us both our first levels of real independance at 17. I have very very good memories in that truck and would love to find ne thats not a pile of shit to be a camping/beach toy but they are alomst all piles of garbage now. A friend found a decent one and scooped it for camping and such. I'm jealous lol.
