Matt never shies away from this crap, kudos to him. My take away is that he knew Donnie was a piece of shit, but in that "he never did anything to me" kind of way.

As someone who is in the predatory towing business in florida, I can assure you I've been involved in many civil issues and I've been sued personally for "fraudulently obtaining titles to a 53 ft box trailer" among other things. The one issue I see here is donnie's lack of business license if thats true. As long as we show local detectives our paperwork to obtain titles, its considered a civil issue. My guess is they've got him on a technicality. Guess we'll see!
Yes Donnie did all those things. We go back 40 years. Matt, you were one of the lucky ones who didn't encounter his nasty sadistic vengeful side. He was an idiot too believing he wasn't going to get caught for the umpteenth time... He's the epitome of living the Seven Deadly Sins. Donne omitted Lots of things from his past, but also lied about a lot of things too. I can tell you all sorts of stuff.
As someone who’s been ripped off by multiple shops I immediately side against Donnie. There are to many straight up criminals. I run my own business and inherently trust people. I don’t like thinking every shop I take my car to is full of thieves and con-artists. But if you don’t go in thinking that you will be taken advantage of.
I know there are good shops out there. But I’ve seen so many people besides myself ripped off by the criminals that run a lot of them. It’s a black mark on the entire industry and one that people don’t want to talk about.
How was Matt able to go to Donnie's shop and collect his car and all the pieces? I'm italian and when something like this happens the police is seizing (or at least putting seals) to the shop of the person arrested so they can "freeze" the situation and start the investigation. After a while, when they have inspected everything and figured out the situation, you are able to claim your car and have it back. More to this, how can Matt know which parts are his and not from someone else? Genuinely interested to better understand all this..
His tech Trevor has been releasing cars and parts. Missing parts.
That is why you take friends or a mechanic who has worked on one. It's also why getting video or photo updates of work is a good idea from a mechanic. Always ask your lawyer or the Police involved in the case. If Donnie has been accused of selling your parts to other people or buying stolen parts then it's not a good idea to take it unannounced. Don't do this on your own as other people see it as an opportunity to rob the place if they know that you are the key. You should also do the same thing, photos/video back at Donnie of the stuff you took. This way if the other customers decide to rob the place you don't get Donnie coming after you once he is out of jail.
Iain Tyrell will hook up that Countach! Ship it overseas :)
My dad's quote "don't do something illegal while doing something illegal."
Tip… when you wash your car, take it out around the block for 5 min. (If its nice out) this will remove water from your brake rotors and in between body panels.
57:38 Matt says he absolutely cannot buy another car
58:50 Matt says with a smirk maybe I can
Matt sounds like he's dead on about the ego thing. Let's say this owner or a couple owners got into a payment dispute with Donnie and he told them to pound sand and filed the mechanic's liens. And he wasn't legitimately licensed in order to do so. Then that's their path to getting the cars back is suing and proving he didn't have legitimacy to take possession of the cars. And while that lawsuit is ongoing Donnie thinking "fuck these guys I took them legit when they wouldn't pay me" and then trying to move them is the ego moment. And for there to be a sting operation for the sale and for him to be in jail with that kind of bond for this means he likely got into a feud with the wrong person. In the underworld you'd roll up packing with your homies and take your car back at gunpoint. In this world the homies are the cops and your lawyers.
Yes, this was not a dispute over $6 washers. He was well known in Ferrari circles for overcharging, the guy with the $130,000 restoration of a 328 tried to sell his car on BAT and posted receipts. $1650 for an alternator that you buy new from Bosch for $110 as it's on a BMW. Donnie had done the same shakedown of trying to sell the customers Monza and the guy paid up.
@@fraserwright9482 You seem to know an awful lot about this situation 🤔
Donnie's profile is similar in many trades, experienced technician disillusioned with customers who only do the bare minimum. Finds customers who want them to use them privately as the industry has moved on and feels the gatekeeper to this skillset. Unwilling to teach others as the supply dries up they become unwelcome to people learning or bringing new twists into the field, some manifesting in overtly theatrical processes or actions. So they don't use gauges or specialist tools, they need a type of music playing then they work, a lucky tool or hat, it's an act now so people pay for the show or they make it look like you need this to carry out this task. The more creative the field the more eccentric this can become. Whilst their experience is respected and there is a high proportion of poor quality materials in some things, they view customers as idiots because they do not indulge them in their root to fruit process especially if there is a fault with their work, they want to attribute to the materials or products, but never themselves. Axel Rose being a fine example of this, but he only works on Early Honda's
@@fraserwright9482 “And that mechanic? The Loch Ness monster himself. My bill was about $350,000.”
Matt when you first went to Donnie and he said he didn't know what transmission fluid to use, red flags were popping. Every mechanic should know such elementary service items.
There are many, many elements of his fiddling with Matt's Countach that were not correct or how do we put this? it's a RUclips entertainment aspect of how Donnie worked. The easy one to see is how he took the engine/box out, you reverse the car next to your work bench, bolt a fwd engine brace onto the holes in your 2 post hoist to lift it. Use jacks to raise the rear of the car up a foot or so to clear the gear lever and then roll the car out. He was taking bits off which he didn't need to and the sight of him spreading the car out across the hanger was very much 'a man who works alone' type of work ethic.
My wife’s 2022 Accord has 1 tap memory seat buttons and Driver 1/2 key fobs and it associates the fob with the seat position sometimes
Same with my current 2018 Honda and our previous 2008 infiniti.
Does the one-touch work while car is motion too? Some have one-touch only in Park, but require hold when driving. If I accidentally hit my wife's memory setting while moving and it was one-touch I'd probably crash lol.
@@The_Stanman I've only ever been able to make it work while parked, but next time I'm driving it I will try the press and hold.
My 2013 does the key based memory and one touch lol
Good approach on the whole Donnie issue. Appreciate where Matt is coming from. Fast Cars in Redondo can probably help with the Countach. Good luck.
My daily has been down for 3 weeks now. Currently in pieces. Just picked up the last parts for it so now I can put it back together. I've been commuting in my fun weekend car. The fact I had something else to drive allowed me to source proper parts and take my time to do it right. By the way, there is no room in the engine bay of an LS460.

Excellent show, I know it must not have been easy to discuss Donnie and for being so open, honest, and fair.
Strange the RAV4 Hybrid is tap to hold memory seats. The Venza Hybrid (same years) is just push once and it works. Actually it detects the separate key fobs too.
55:30 I don't see the picture on your Insta - I would honestly really love to see the space the car takes up in. FOUR bays? That's crazy. The good news is that the ordeal, for the most part, is stable and nothing is chaotic anymore. And for that reason I'd love to see just what the car looks like in that state.
The Donnie situation obviously sucks for many reasons, but.. I was dying laughing during the "one crime at a time" segment - Matt sharing FACTS.
Most sensible advice ever... "you never want want your hobby to be your work"...
Hobby being a job/way to make money....
But when your passion becomes "work" then it'll destroy you.
In the creative realm, I should add.
Ikigai principle of the overlapping 4 circles of life. What you are good at, what you love, what the world needs, what you get paid for.
On the Taycan they have a regen setting, it is active in sport or sport plus but available with a button on the steering wheel for normal mode. Yes, it’s not one peddle but it’s a reasonable equivalent of engine braking. However, since there is only one gear (I know, it has a 2 speed trans but it’s not selectable) it’s nowhere near as aggressive as downshifting. The first thing I do when I get in is hit that button, I really dislike coasting.
I bought my first electric car 2 years ago as a 2 year old 2nd hand model with about 20'000 kms on the clock. The first thing I had to do to it was to change the front rotors because the previous owner hadn't used them and they were rusted beyond saving. So yes, that's definitely a thing.
Damn, I just saw Scott Michael's video. I get that he doesn't like Donnie but, what's with all the hate towards Matt.
Because Matt platformed him, and that's completely fine. If someone else has a bee in their bonnet about that, well that's their issue. Seems that guy just wants to drag Matt in for...being associated with Donnie, which is a big "so what".
@@shingoose6197 No. It isn't a "So what?" Matt in this very podcast admitted he KNEW Donnie had a criminal past and didn't care. Us THIRTY PLUS victims didn't. "He didn't screw me" isn't effing good enough.
I drive a lowered C5 Z06. I have less than a finger between the tires and fender. It's manageable for the most part, but I can't go over any speed bumps. Gets all the looks, and handles awesome.
At least in Canada the BMW i4 M50 is slightly cheaper than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
48:35 I know it's a bit of inside baseball, but I'm glad Zack has a stake in what you're doing.
I have no personal stake in the Donnie case. It seems like he might have been overzealous in selling before he had full ownership, but that's a totally unqualified opinion from an armchair theorist over here. I'll just wait to hear what the courts decide.
In this great country it’s innocent until proven guilty. Wait for the facts to come out.
100 Octane will prevent knock. That's about it. But we definitely use the WORST quality fuel possible for testing, as poor fuel moves timing to a point where it's HOT.
You'd theoretically keep combustion chamber temps lower on 100 Octane. That does not equal power in today's ECU/enrichment maps.
I havent watched the pod on youtube for a while but wow Matt looks like he lost a whole person of weight. Looking great!
Criminal charges like these are not just pulled out of the air by one person..Think about how the justice system works...The cop takes a report, refers it to a detective who feels out the validity of case, refers it up his chain, goes to prosecutor, who takes it to the judge for a warrant. They wouldnt do all that if they didnt have a case. This case has been vetted, your buddy Callaway is screwed..
1:48:20 - DCT cars will probably become more collectible, but not because of transmission. Mostly because of the engine. There is currently no automatic gearbox in production which can take 9000 engine rpms. DCTs can do that. This is the reason new Z06 Corvette, Old M3, Lambos, R8s, Ferraris, Mclarens have DCT gearboxes. All this cars have engines which can rev >7500 rpm.
Why couldn't the seats' presets be set to the key like my old CC where the the seat moves to my position when I use my key to unlock it and to my wife's position when she unlocks it with her key? Having to press the preset button sounds crazy this day in age unless it a shared key.

The question you answered about brake rotors rusting on electric cars is not exclusive to electric cars.
Cars the don't get driven much or only see short trips have the same problem.
Rotors on most cars are cast iron, and cast iron is porous allowing moisture to get into the metal. This problem is worse in cold and humid climates. Regular driving heats the rotors enough to cook the moisture out. In electric cars and those that do short trips the rotors don't regularly get hot enough to remove the moisture. What you wind up with is rust build up on the braking surface, this often creeps in from the edges and is why good quality rotors are coated with an anti-corrosion coating.
In the end it's not a big deal, you just wind up having to replace the pads and rotors early.
It takes years for this corrosion to build up but many electric vehicle owners might be caught off guard because they thought the brakes would last longer due to regen.
10:42 COOKIN!
Great episode, interesting to hear about Donnie
Ionic 5n was a great review boys. Never thought an electric car would be so surprising
1:47:07 Rust on EV brakes is probably one of the most common (among the few) problems EVs often have in Norway. Probably because of salting roads in winter. The solution is simple: Make sure to regularly do some hard breaking on downhills to make sure the brakes engage. Slow one pedal drivers might have to change brakes because of rust, not wear.
Kratom is highly addictive, but what isn’t if you’re trying to fix pain. I hate pills! It works like a champ for chronic body pain. Im still a little iffy on it as it’s so new and hasn’t been studied fully but neither have vapes yet. I do recommend people try it if you have real pain. Kratom has different strains kinda like thc.

Matt once again proving he has the most balanced and objective opinion on the Donny situation. Why is it so hard for other people to analyze things like this.
I would like to see Matt and Zack get interested in learning and doing their own wrenching.
I like buzzed Matt lol
I'm confused why the state allowed him the liens in the first place. Where's their due diligence?
Especially in California where the government is far up your ass it’s not even funny.
Get to work on that countach . Every week it stays disassembled it’s chances of being reassembled decrease. It’s the law of the universe.
Not really, I think it's a good idea to get various people who can carry out the work to come over and give you a quote. It gives you a better picture of where you stand, so what parts need ordering or replaced. Putting the car back together should only take a week if he gets everything prepared. The engine can be rebuilt and dynoed on its own.
Would Doug maybe know who could help with the Countach given his having recent work?
I’m sure Matt is already aware of that shop but didn’t want to pay their rates. I’m assuming they have a waitlist because they are “the shop” to take it to. He’d also have to ship it across the country.
He needs to ship it to Ian tyrell in the UK and just pay the man.@@Bob_Smith19
shipping an entire Countach body, drivetrain, body panels, and various boxes of suspensions components and boxes of parts will also cost a lottttt more than what it cost Doug to ship his car to Ohio. Enclosed car transport is relatively cheap as hell at the cost of $1 a mile but when you need to add in an engine/transmission and everything else on a pallet(s) you're looking at a signficantly larger sum.
@@Bob_Smith19 I wasn't sure where the shop was. That's a shame. Assumed it'd be California with Doug being in San Diego.
