Something you should mention, is that you can actually rotate the strut assembly once you have it screwed in at the top. I thought for a solid hour that I did something wrong because the strut wouldn't line up with the knuckle. Found out through forum that you can actually rotate it once it's on the top mount. Otherwise, this was awesome
Same comment as below, but because of your video, my son and I changed both out in time for my wife to attend an event she really wanted to go to so thanks for making the video. It made a real difference for my family and I.
this is about the 8th 1A auto video I've seen.. and YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!.. smart technicians, very personable and knowledgeable!! THANK YOU for all your videos....
On my 2005 ZX4 ST that's lived 16 year in CA I didn't have to undo the axle nut. I just put a short (~16") 2"x4" on the knuckle and hit the end of it with a sledge. Worked like a charm! Great video.
5:00 Keeping the rotor tight against the hub is a good precaution because I had that very issue where rust flakes got in behind the rotor and caused run out because they acted like a shim.
Just want to say I watched your video and love the way you do your job but it is sad to say not most mechanics are that careful or good keep up the good work always remember your work has your name on it lots of blessings
17:40 going around a second time doesn't do anything unless you're not sure if you missed torquing one completely the first time around, because static friction will always sound off or click without any motion of the nut. To do anything like that it needs to be first loosened up again so that it rotates during the tightening process.
Awesome video and thanks for making it and sharing it, I have to change the front struts on my 2008 focus, this saved me time and money on taking it to a garage and paying $3500 for them to do it. Thanks a bunch again.
on the air chisel your using what is the one you are using, i found a cheap one on 1a auto 29.00 but I am not sure if they have a better one, they do not say,
I’ve got a 2005. Guy I bought it from dropped it, lower ride. I want it back to standard/OEM ride height. Is this all I need to replace? Front and rear struts? Is it simple as that?
+@mentalpaperclip We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
hi i been looking on your site for parts for my car but does not seem u stock ford falcon parts iam looking for upper and lower ball joints and ball joint press
+Layne Schwabedissen Thanks for checking us out! There could be multiple reasons why you're having this particular problem. It could be as simple as the upper mount not being torqued properly or there could be a defect with th strut. We suggest taking your vehicle to a nearby reputable shop to identify the cause.
+Rene Garcia This procedure might be different for your application. We do not currently have a how-to video for this particular year, make and model. Thank you for asking! 1AAuto.com
So many jump cuts in this video. I definitely notice you removed the calipers and rotors prior to putting your axel nut back on. Must have been a seperate video.

bought a full assembled strut from oreilleys got home took everything apart, set aside my old one, and couldn't fit the new in. examined the parts and it lacked that slight bevel at the bottom end of the strut. Sadly you skipped the hardest part of the process, getting the knuckle to line up with the new strut and slide in. im the only thumbs down unfortunately because you skipped the only reason i came to this video
@@kd5nrh 19 years my rear Ford shocks lasted. Bilstein makes them. Replaced with Ford parts not a whole lot more than ones he used on rear shock video in which he uses craptastic China-Parts. They came with all new hardware too.

Yeah for sure in a non salted road state these cars fair much better. Never had such a time doing any suspension on mine.
If you go behind the knuckle and tap a spreader into the back to the strut it comes out very easy you just have to tighten it good afterwards
Best video of this job ! Shows very well sections, when going will get tough, because there will be those moments.

anyone who charges 3500 to replace a 150$ set of parts and about an hour of labor is ripping you off you should find a different shop to go to
3500!?!?! Nah dont ever go back to that shop
Beautiful fender… zooms in
Great informative video👍
Thank you.
The knuckle is stuck and won’t allow my new strut to go in how do I fix that I’ve greased both things and jacked it up it lifts the damn car up
What a wonderful channel

my wheel lug nut torque spec calls for 94 ftlbs as per the shop manual and the front torque spec calls for 233 ftlbs I have a 03 focus wagon 2.3L
Can't you put a car scissor jack on the top of the knuckle and against the spring to separate the strut from the knuckle?
Hello.
How to raise the level of a Ford Focus from the front?
Thank you.
len I like those locking pliers you have and use in the video I like the design where can i get a pair ?

Be a good idea.
What is that spray that looks like paint?

Rust Penetrant.
You do not need to undo the driveshaft nut.

Installed mine and they work but whenever it hits a bigger speed bump, it makes a loud thud like the strut is bottoming out. Any solution to this?

Most likely the sway bar link (stabilizer bar links). These are fairly cheap and would be replaced anytime you do the strut replacement.
It’s the Sway bars. Recommend Moog sway bars, stopped the clanking throughout the whole vehicle
Is this different from a 2009 focus? How so?

Ahhh, I do not have a hoist at home, what to do now???😟
I don't either. Just jack it up and put stands under it.
That socket had a lot of wobble on it to be a 15

I do see a reason it's made in China and cannot see the internal differences. The outside similarity means nothing.

Same. Had to put back old one
Watches video , goes to Ford dealer to get quality parts.
Well, low quality is technically quality. I guess if you want the car to keep breaking, keep using the crap Ford used.

Don't wanna over tighten it? At freaking 266 ft lbs? Are you kidding me?
lol u ment to loosen the top nuts first u did it in wrong order

So I should loosen the nuts under the hood first?
@@jefferygordon243 You can but it makes the job harder; especially getting the lower end out of the collar.
