While Arvis did dislike Sigurd, considering he just (indirectly) gave Seliph the sword to kill him, I think he intentionally played the role Seliph needed him to be (Horrific man with no remorse, as opposed to a pitiful a$$hole who foolishly let himself fall victim to a greater evil) in order to give him the drive needed to move forward. Prior to this, Seliph's attitude was a lot more mild, wanting to talk/settle peacefully/etc. to his enemies, something that would be a liability when confronting Julius. That or he insulted him just for the lulz
Yeah, at this point in the game Arvis was a broken man. Sure he was a colossal prick in the first gen but he never intended for things to end up the way they were with his son. He was supposedly a decent ruler until his son essentially usurped his power. Arvis hated the child hunts as well. He knew the only way to end the madness was the success of Seliph's rebellion so he manipulated the Tyrfing in to Seliph's hands and let himself be killed as penance.
Yeah I'm pretty sure the reason Arvis insults Seliph is to make him personal and grant him the resolve to strike him down because he feels he's done everything he could to fix the world and he should just leave it in Seliphs care
When I realized 14 years ago it was the best feeling. It's like the developers actually cared about the legacy previous titles left. Glad to see new fans are realizing it, too.
At least Arvis was nice to his kids. Ozai was not and lucked out that one of his Kids (Azula) always stood by his side because she lacked Mental awareness
I refuse to have any sympathy for Arvis, to be honest. Him or his ilk (“I did what I did for the greater good” blah blah blah). Buddy, you’re just Go Nagai’s Satan and Dio Brando in one character, quit lying to yourself.
In case you can’t tell the context of the scene, he’s playing it up so that Seliph will kill him. He gave Tyrfing to the bishop to give to Seliph. He knows he can’t beat Manfroy and Julius, so he’s essentially entrusting it to Seliph
@@Boarbatrice He also made sure to move Naga's Book away from Berhara's castle, since he knew Julius would be guarding it AND gave Julia her mother's circlet, now afixed with the key to unlock Naga's Book At this point in time, there is not a doubt that Arvis regretted his choices and did whatever he could to stop Loptyr
Kinda disappointed by this exchange. Seliph only had one question and it wasn't a particularly interesting thing that characterized him. I do adore how Arvis wears a mask here to discourage Seliph from holding back but overall this was mediocre in isolation.
What is it with FE4 and trying to dumb down their villains by having them call characters lowly worms and stuff? Travant and Arvis are both pretty complex villains but the game does everything it can to make you despise them like they're Disney villains. EDIT: Okay my bad I misunderstood it. I still don't really like how they both are basically being like "fuck you Seliph make a better country pussy" but still I thought it was just poor writing when it was definitely intentional.
The point is that they're ultra antagonistic on purpose to make it easier for Seliph to kill them to both atone for what they did and make it easier for the Liberation Army to unify the country afterwards.
NinjaSox7 Arvis isn’t a mindless villain like manfroy but he is far from being morally grey, The things arvis said to seliph he really means it, He allways hated Sigurd so naturally he would hate seliph aswell
Arvis is basically playing the bad guy to Seliph. He sent that priest out of the castle with Tyrfing and when the priest asks him if the blade is Tyrfing he says "yes, you know what you have to do..." I always seen this scene more so as Arvis just playing the villain to Seliph. He plays the very image of what Seliph has always known him to be. After the fight, Seliph tells Lewyn he feels nothing, and they agree that Arvis was a victim of a grand scheme.
Mike Murdock Oh yea arvis is so “innocent”, he is a poor baby who was manipulated by manfroy, he’s such a victom, it’s all Sigurds fault am I right? Not exactly, let me explain. Out of all the character in fe 4 including the main characters and even the side characters, Arvis had the most control over his actions in gen 1, Unlike Sigurd who basically had to fulfil his duty and was falsely accused for a crime he didn’t commit. Arvis convinced the nobles of grandvale that Sigurd and his dad were guilty, despite him knowing that Sigurd was innocent. Arvis caused the massacre at belhella out if his own accordance in order to become the emperor. He married deidre despite him already having a relationship with another woman and even had a kid with her. He invaded other countries which indirectly caused massacre and genocide. Even after finding the truth about deidre he never showed regrett for his past actions and was only sad after her death. But nope arvis is “innocent” and “a victim” because he did some good things like saving some children, or that he had good ideals. Ideals don’t mean shit when all of you’re actions are inhumane. I feel like most people think the way they do now is due to linkking7’s video which is incredibly biased and literally has no proof, it only explores the what if’s. Arvis is complex, and its fine to like him, but you gotta be pretty biased and would have to actively avoid many plot holes, if you want claim that he’s morally grey or that he somehow is a victim therefor he is excused for his crimes
True i wish Seliph was more human. Like expressing a grudge toward Deirdre, yeah i know she is brainwashed but i don't think Seliph aware she was kidnapped and brainwashed. All they knew Deirdre never returned when she after Sigurd then she just Became wife of emperor Arvis the man who murdered Sigurd.

So THIS was the theme that forms the Side Battle from FE9. Interesting...

I hate Arvis with a passion but I gotta give props: he's one of the best villains this series has ever had.....still hate him >_>
