They really are masterfully done, there's a short telegraph that lets the player stop clenching their butthole and let out the air in their lungs when they needed that crit to survive, and then the character EXPLODES into action in a single frame and before you can blink their weapon is six inches in the enemy's head. I've been playing Awakening and while the cut in frames and voice lines on crit are cool, it's no where near as satisfying as it was back on the GBA and the updated graphics just feel a bit lazy in comparison to the artistry of the sprites.

If I remember correctly, Swordmaster Rutger, with the right supports (Dieck and Clarine) and a Wo Dao could reach 103% Crit. And Rutger didn't have trainee bonuses.
always loved the berserker crit. it shows how powerful they are at the same time of how confidant they are that it will kill. they dont even flinch or even move when they do it. just a simple toss of the axe and a super fast slam into your fucking face.
I actually have never seen most of the monster crits besides the dog, gorgon, and mogalls, so seeing them for the first time here was really something.

Fun Fact: Amelia can perform 20 different critical animations, which is the highest amount not only FE8 but a GBA Fire Emblem unit has. In the other hand, Innes has only access to 1 critical animation.
TBH I like Paladins more than great knights (artwork wise) Paladins are elegant and always have their shield up and stuff but great knights are just fat
I've always loved the critical animations from way back then, especially the ones that developed into their class skills in later games (Astra for the Myrmidon classes, Aether for the Mercs, etc). Honestly, there are some things you just can't replace with graphic updates (for instance, the Paladin crit in Sacred Stones vs Awakening). Thank you for making this video, sir (even though we are technically the same age).

the Swordsmaster Crits are what we can (almost) always see, it increases when holding a Killing Edge and weapons that increases Crit Rates, the animation for the Crits are cool too, but the swordsmaster crit is what i like the most, having struck 5 times at the enemy must be a good thing to feel when defeating one.
Honestly, those criticals were my probably one the most favorite thing about FE games. It sucks now that the newer games don’t have them. Don’t get me wrong, FE Three Houses is fun asf, but if I could bring one thing back to these games, it would be these criticals

with the enemy control glitch... i have discovered that the highest dmg possible is 95 x 3. Grabbed Demon Surge and Stone and this happened

Also it's kind of amazing how much more detailed the FE8 sprites are than the ones that originated in 6 and 7.

TBH I like Paladins more than great knights (artwork wise) Paladins are elegant and always have their shield up and stuff but great knights are just fat
I've always loved the critical animations from way back then, especially the ones that developed into their class skills in later games (Astra for the Myrmidon classes, Aether for the Mercs, etc). Honestly, there are some things you just can't replace with graphic updates (for instance, the Paladin crit in Sacred Stones vs Awakening). Thank you for making this video, sir (even though we are technically the same age).

the Swordsmaster Crits are what we can (almost) always see, it increases when holding a Killing Edge and weapons that increases Crit Rates, the animation for the Crits are cool too, but the swordsmaster crit is what i like the most, having struck 5 times at the enemy must be a good thing to feel when defeating one.

Honestly, those criticals were my probably one the most favorite thing about FE games. It sucks now that the newer games don’t have them. Don’t get me wrong, FE Three Houses is fun asf, but if I could bring one thing back to these games, it would be these criticals
The crits in three houses are ok at best but you can tell the developers didn’t focus on crits this time around.
Man I can't wait to see the critical animations in the future with better graphics and hardware.

Lolzies I fucking love the Rogue crit omg. But General Spear and Axe are better for me. The sword crit seems a bit awkward in how they hit the enemy with the sword.
