Special credits to VVS, coz VVS is the key player in 1st n 2nd innings of this match. If laxman didn't got 50 in 1st innings india would have bowled out for less than 💯 runs. We have huge pressure n even lost that match. Both laxmayn bowlers r key for this match
Definately it's the batsman who can save the test at max but it's the bowlers who win the test , harbhajan hatrick and sachin 3 crucial wickets was the main reason india won that test

Indeed. It turned the match around 720 degrees. It was not snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. That innings of 281 actually brought victory out from the belly of the defeat monster.
wow, can't stop my tears, don't know why. In 2001 I was studying 11th standard playing with friends in my house terrace. My dad told that Laxman and Dravid played the whole day with excitement. Next day we all sitting in front of the TV to watch Laxman triple hundred, but we all upset when he got out. Later India went on to win this match. Now in Jan2019, working in an IT concern watching this match in Laptop. Superb memories guys
I had to say I was fortunate to witness this match live while sitting at Eden Gardens from Day 3 to Day 5. Me and my father sat everyday at the same sit and never got off while Laxman and Dravid were playing on day 3...we and people around also stopped others from cheering loudly so that their concentration does not break much like tennis,...all we were saying we are witnessing something great in front of us...lets enjoy...lets observe what real good test batting is. The funny part is we actually did not bought the tickets, we were given by a friend of my father at the night of day 2 when India were almost certain to follow on and eventually lose against the mighty Aussies. He was so disgusted that he gave his two tickets away, we being ever optimistic went on to see the match...When we were walking past our neighborhood on day 3 morning to catch the metro to Eden some guys even joked at us for going to witness India's debacle...but in Cricket anything can happen...And specially in Eden...But what a spectacle it was...specially on Day 3 first and second session...I still can hear the sound of Gillespie's ball hitting the middle of Laxman's bat...Tak...and its 4 all along the carpet...true genius
+Sudipto Chakraborty Great story, man. This was indeed was one of the greatest test matches played and Laxman's innings was probably the best test innings played by an Indian. You are lucky to witness it live.
+Srini A Thanks. I have witnessed many test and ODIs at Eden but this one will be always at the top of whatever I have felt at a sports ground...the match was so special on and off the ground. There is a big playing arena just outside the stadium where one has to walk past after getting out of Metro and before entering one of the many gates inside the stadium...as someone approaches the stadium and if there is a match going on you can hear a constant buzz more like a humming sound...originating from all the spectators inside...every time there is a wicket falls or a boundary being hit one can hear the pitch of that humming sound goes up a notch...3rd day morning when we were walking towards the stadium anticipating may be its all over, we were a little late and the morning session was already started...we were hearing the humming sound going up a notch frequently as we were approaching...my father asked a moving panwala whats boss is it all over...I still remember that panwala was so offended by that question...he said with a very serious voice...Noh its Laxman hitting boundaries...my father was so happy to hear, he quickly bought a packet and we just ran towards the gate...Somehow that panwala also sensed a miracle is just around the corner...
When I woke up in the morning there was hindi paper their headline was " Dravid ne kheecha kangaroo k aage laxman rekha"". Still I remember this match. I was 9 year old that time. Today I watch 38 minutes Vidio. This is the best ever test match I have seen till now. I love my India...love you Indian team.

What makes this match so special was Laxman was suffering from backache while Dravid had fever and diarrhoea. Despite all that they batted for an entire day without losing their concentration. True legends and heroes of the game
29:12 - When Ian Chappell says from the commentary box after VVS becomes the highest test run scorer for India comparing him with Sunil Gavaskar's score - I think both of these innings came against the best bowling attacks of their time. What a compliment. Legends.

But not alone, with a team of people that have different skills to get the job done. This match from Indians perspective was nothing less than a life lesson ❤️
This game literally immortalized VVS. He went on to become a second innings sankat-mochak, a specialist in crisis management for the famed Indian batting line-up. This innings literally changed the world cricket. Even today, the "VVS effect" inevitably haunts a captain while enforcing follow-on on a strong batting line-up! That itself is a great tribute to the legendary VVS.😇
Laxman and Bhajji were main men of that match...But look at the determination of The Wall He scored only 15 in his first 75 balls,He never lost his patience..Thats why He is all time great Test player ,no offence to SRT but Dravid was something special... Maybe Virat will match Sachin's legacy but we will never find a player like 'The Wall' Test matches = Rahul Dravid Perhaps records are not in favour of him, people will say Sachin and many more players have better avg than him But Dravid was Dravid😍
Yeah it's true Dravid is the most consistent batsman India have ever seen. But still I have a hope that Pujara can follow his legacy. He may won't become another Dravid because Indian team have changed very much today. But I'm sure he can possess that quality
Still kills me watching this as an Aussie , we had a great team and were so so keen to win in India at the time . Just an unbelievable effort from Laxman and Dravid . 20 years after Botham did it in Headingly as well

On the fourth day, it was load-shedding the whole morning and we couldn’t watch live streaming. We had only listened Bengali commentery on radio. Every time Laxman and Dravid were scoring four, we're breaking into jumps. We're counting the deficit and cheering up every run all together. After the win, we couldn’t keep ourselves cool. The whole evening was cherished through that incredible win! My boyhood memory which still stirs my heart !!!!!!
Generation these days MUST watch this match when they call themselves depressed and hopeless. Life's challenges are meant to be faced bravely, because at the end victory is ours. Jai Hind. 🇮🇳
This match brought tears to my eyes, I was in 9th std and we had 30marks Journal tests and due to our roll no difference I was separated from my 6 group of friends and had finished my exam with them being still in for around 4 hours. The moment Laxman and Dravid played the whole day I ran 3-4 times in the day updating my friends about the game, my house was 1.5kms away and I literally Ran back and forth just to not miss any ball in b/w sessions and keep my frnds updated as well. Then after the day was over, we guys had post match discussions for almost 2-3 hrs that how can we possibly win this and how will Saurav lead as a captain. And the next day we fucking bunked the class and all of them watched at a frnds house with his Dad and neighbour also watching (TVs were at limited ppls home) and that was the best day as random abuses came out from us teenagers and uncles being around and those jumping emotions when Steve Waigh was out, I mistakenly had hit uncle on face thinking as a high five gesture... We spilled Thumsup like a Champagne in sync with all members... Gosh those were the days where Cricket held generations together as a Family union with emotions flowing around. Glad my childhood witnessed the era of these legends playing together and then even the likes of Yuvi, Dhoni, Sehwag. Fuck these new generation who won't ever know about such feelings. ❤️
Wow. Well narrated. I took a radio to my school so as to hear the commentary. Got caught.. And radio was confiscated. ...... Next day baapu school aaye and fir badi kutayi Hui...😂😂😂
Legends were born in this series. 'The Wall' Dravid,' The very very special' Laxman,' The turbunator' Bhajji,' The never back down captain' Ganguly and most importantly the rise of modern Indian Indian cricket started from there.
I was almost 16 years old when I saw that match live on TV; that was the first time I started loving Indian cricket. What a match… what a fight back. I'm a fan from Pakistan.
What is so great about his captaincy ? The guy didn't declare on the 5th day till the lead had gotten to to 385 and India might have run out of time if not for Harbhajan brilliant bowling ? Does anyone seriously think Aus would have chased 385 on 5th day track.. Very defensive captaincy. And that Sachin was given 1 over to change ends and it clicked.

It's March 14, 2021 !! 20 years ago, On This Day... 90 overs, 335 runs, No wickets!! VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid scripted the greatest Test comeback at Eden Gardens against Australia!
One of the greatest ever match. Laxman playing a gem but how good was Dravid. His innings overshadowed by Laxman. Playing the perfect anchor role as always. Miss you Dravid.
Everyone's talking about the players, but look at the crowd turnout for the match, it's insane the popularity test cricket had back in the days! Golden era indeed !!
From the jaws of defeat to winning a test match against the best side of that era is all about hope. This game changed fate of Indian cricket forever once the Dada took reigns. Todays cricketers enjoying the fruits from trees whose seeds were sowm by Gangulian era.
While celebrating Dravid and Laxman, let's not forgot the gutsy captain in Ganguly who established the Indian team on a very strong footing, especially after the turbulent era in Indian cricket..
My first memories of test cricket. We did not have cable TV at our home back then, so we used to listen to the radio for until the last hour of play was broadcast on DD1. There was a great debate in the morning between my uncle and my Dad about when Ganguly should have declared. I remember Glenn McGrath's LBW at the end like it was yesterday. What a test match!
This match had everything: first ever hatrick by an Indian bowler, getting wickets through reverse swing, Steve Waugh's dodgy century, VVS, Dravid, on drive against Warne, Bhajji's 13 wickets, Sachin bamboozling Warne by bowling a googly By far the best match I gv ever seen. IPL or T20 matches do not come close
This is one of best test match in the cricket history.centuries from the legends, commentary and cheer from the crowd..Everything.. Just superb. Stil fresh childhood memories..love from kerala 😍
This victory for me is no less than any world cup or WTC title.. those days, it didn't mattered Australia was playing in which part of the world, it was criminal to even thinking of competing well against them, forget about winning the match. a test draw against aussies even in your home conditions was considered by many as a victory.
The tickets for all the 5 days were purchased by our Uncle. My cousin's went for the first 2days as I had my exams going on. I joined from the 3rd day around 1-1.30 ish in the afternoon. My school was at Park Street and I went to the stadium alone by public bus (my first time). I was 12 then...by the time the word got around on 4th day of a India fight back people started pouring in. But it was after tea that the Eden pitch played tricks. H.Singh and Sachin got almost 8 in total. Bansal was raising his finger on almost every lbw appeal while the English umpire turned down everything. Dada made bhajji change ends to get him.bowl from the end Bansal was standing. It was 110,000 people in the stadium..the match ended at 3.30-4pm. people had 🔥 torches in their hands. A random guy next to me ( he must have been in his 40s) said " you will never forget this day"
If sachin don't perform with bat he balance it with his bowling! what a player he was! Sachin,Dravid,VVS Laxman,Ganguly and even Shewag! *Match winners*
Very well said.. that's true. Loved watching cricket in that era. T20 is very entertaining but I guess I ruined to whole experience of watching cricket.
True - it's interesting how when the legend didn't score many runs in this match unfortunately, he made it up by dismissing Gilchrist, Hayden and also Warne but the first two - super importance wickets.

VVS was already on 100 before Dravid opened the account in the 2nd innings and then both of them got almost the same amount of runs together in the partnership. What an effort (which led to winning the match)!!! Hats OFF VVS & RD!
VVS has forever etched his name in the annals of cricket history with this inning. Imagine that the human race still exists in the year 3001, and people are still watching this inning.
Everyone watching this multiple times shows their selection of pure cricket. The best test innings for India is by VVS. And DADA how good he is with the decision for Sachin Sir bawling. But Dravid Sir is an unforgettable hero of the match... No of today's Era can match this type of game. Proud to have these dedicated hero's of the game..
When they used to say VVS and Dravid batted throughout a day, I thought it was a rhetorical statement. Now I realise they indeed did that. What an outstanding performance.
Not once but twice they did it and both times came against the Aussies. Once in India another in Australia (Considered full day as they batted 3 sessions together without losing wicket. Laxman joined Dravid after Lunch nearby tea time on Day 2 and Got out on last ball before Tea on Day 3). Partnership was of 94 overs between them.
That shot Laxman plays at 27:44.. Omg. No one can step out to shane warne to a turning ball from the rough, pitching outside legstump, and drive it throgh covers for four. Bloody brilliant. Masterclass.

@@battusajeev It looks like a half vollley to you because laxman came down almost three paces and met the ball as it was about to pitch… imagine how well your footwork and eye should be to anticipate the trajectory of the ball to turn it into a half volley and bloody hit it through the covers … its a bloody impossible shot.. i have see sunny and Sachin play this shot… but i don’t know if they played it as clinically as Laxman did
This series happened just before my SSLC public exams. With strict restrictions to watch TV at home due to exams, used a pocket radio to listen the commentary without the knowledge of my parents. Those days WERE pure GEM 👌🏾 Only managed to get a glimpse in the DD News and have repeatedly read the next day newspaper articles. A true 80's kid moment!! ❤️
Why were the Australians reacting in disbelief to such plumb LBWs? Even in the last wicket of the innings taken by Harbhajan, McGrath offered his Pads to a ball going straight (a bad leave) and was given out rightfully and even he showed a similar reaction. Pathetic attitude by such a great team! This kind of stuff is why they don't get the respect that they deserve.
@@RAIN-qo2fk Yes I see it. So a right-handed bowler (Sachin) is bowling over the wicket to a left-handed batsman (Hayden) and still the "batsmans off-stump" counts as the "leg-stump" for the bowler? Not sure what the rules are in this case.
Now a days teenagers could not understand what this win was, beating the greatest team in history, beating a team who had won 16 tests in a row! what a crazy day that was. only Gabba 2021 in better than this, nothing comes even close to this one.

This is the greatest test match for all the right reasons. Possibly the greatest test side ever in the history of the game beaten just when they were about to win a series in the "final frontier". All 5 days of test cricket were nail biting. The icing on the cake, 90,000 strong spectators at Eden Gardens watching the match. When is the last time you saw a packed house for a test match across the world?!!! I can't remember one. Its been now close to 15 years since this iconic match was played. I was just 10 at that time, but the emotions are still the same even after all this long. One must have seen this for the umpteen times, is very much aware of the result as well, but it is the cult value of the match of watching 15-17 eventual cricket legends together fighting hard makes it as a glorious sight for any cricket lover. This particular match marked the inception of the golden era of India which is still on. Honestly at this point Indian cricket was bleeding badly with string of poor performances, engrossed with match fixing controversies. And amid all this we were served with this magnificent diaspora of cricket turnaround marvellously led by inspiring Sourav ganguly. The discovery of Laxman, bhajji and ofcourse the hidden Indian hunger for wins infused fresh blood into Indian cricket which gave a fresh ray of vigour & audacity to combat mighty cricket sides. Won't be much wrong to conclude this victory was a stepping stone of present cricket atmosphere in India. Absolutely celestial. And yes, immortally evergreen commentary by one of the most ineffably perfect cricketing voices tony grieg in the background has only taken the experience to a new horizon. To be honest and due respect to other test performance in history of test cricket, butThis particular test match and VVS laxmans innings is by far the " greatest among all".....-greatest comeback, greatest partenership and off course greatest single test match performance....Sachin might score 50 test 100's and Sehwag might score two triple hundred, lara might score 400 , but they would all look at this VVS special with awe and feel privileged.....Surely this is the bst enthralling turning points in the history of cricket.

+Sudipto Chakraborty brings tears to me as u narrate what happened !! really a historic test match
+Ashish Kumar Thanks. Its a very nice car.
+viksam009 Thanks bro...it was indeed. When your chips are down I sometime come back here and watch this match...it helps.

Correct
What makes this match so special was Laxman was suffering from backache while Dravid had fever and diarrhoea. Despite all that they batted for an entire day without losing their concentration.
True legends and heroes of the game
Yet people won't acknowledge their efforts & elevate Sachin.
Dravid had bad run before this and missing his lucky bat which got delivered on the morning after repair.
Dravid the wall arguably one of the the best batsman of all time.
Well I am not surprised about Dravid. It's india after all.

What is so great about his captaincy ? The guy didn't declare on the 5th day till the lead had gotten to to 385 and India might have run out of time if not for Harbhajan brilliant bowling ?

I am an Indian, and am a great fan of Rawalpindi Express, Akhtar....
+Humza Ali I am a huge fan of Saeed Anwar & Waqar Yunus & Yunis Khan as well..Used to fear when they used to play against us..And the most I was impressed by the spin magician Saeed Ajmal, but unfortunately, ICC n Pak cricket board both disappointed his career..
+Humza Ali I AM AN INDIAN, BUT A BIG FAN OF BRUTAL AKHTAR
i am just a fellow human being, but I love a good game of cricket...
It's a GREATEST TEST MATCH. Watched it 24 years back. Whenever You watch it , tears will surely roll out.
The way Laxman tormented the Aussies, no one did.
I remember seeing Aus news channel calling Lakshman 'dangerman'
Peterson also played same aggressive batting against Australia

Sachin’s 3 wickets were so crucial that time.

That team was a legendary one.

If ever we talk of wrist playing by some of the players in the history of Indian Cricket, V.V.S will remain undoubtedly on top. The best thing about V.V.S is that when his wrist is at full swing his head is absolutely steady.
We are proud to have such an outstanding player of Wrist - The Great V.V.S -------------Hats off.

What a batting by lakshman and dravid, played whole 4th day that was just brilliant performance 👌👌
Brings back lots of college time memories. I clearly remember how my room mate and I filled our rooms with Laxman and Dravid's posters after the match. I can never forget this match. Every bit of it remains stuck in my memory. Thanks a lot Dada & team India.
Ditto mate, miss those days
1 match to jeete the Australia se... Itni khushi to bnti hi thi randians ki... 😜😜... That was the time when Pakistan used to beat Australia with ease and this randian team was just treated as minows by pak and Australia.. It was dream for them(poor ind) to beat pak or Australia... 😂
@measum rizvi tumhari team ki to khelne ki bhi aukat nahi hai. Bhadwe Porki😂😂😂😂
Unknowingly I do have joys of tears in my eyes at the end of this video by seeing Our legends Celebrate their Victory...
Proud to be Indian 🕉
Same here bro🤝
One of the Greatest test match ever. Current Indian team should watch this historic match it will help them how to comeback in tough situation.
The GREATEST test match ever.
Feeling nostalgic, anything Eden test, we friends have to be present there, the age was of 25 years, just started professional Carrier, now a responsible family man. Time flies. Miss those days.
Now they don't play in Eden anymore... miss those days ...great teams , fantastic crowd, fantastic cricket ...
