worst case they will just put the bulk of the adjustment on gameplay algorithms (make your footsteps louder, enemy footsteps quieter, increase your bloom and make your aim assist slightly weaker etc) and go "easy" on matching you against other good players/put you in lobbies far away from your location.

A similar thing happens to me with online friends and my MMR tier of SBMM. *People who squad with me get angry and quit.. then avoid squading with me.* They also avoid saying I'm any good, at all costs, and will never mention how sweaty my lobbies are. It's also backed up when I play in their lobbies, I end up getting huge numbers *_and having a blast_* Consequently, it moves the whole squad into a higher tier lobby, which makes everyone frustrated at *_"how bad the lobbies have been",_* and they quit. They'll say things like "we had 10 to 15 decent matches, but suddenly the lobbies are awful". It's a painful process. I just try to have fun.
Itd be cool if they brought back Ping/Connection Based Matchmaking. Would find lobbies nearly instantly. Would be a variety if playstyles being seen. Not every match would be sweaty and the exact same. Man, we had it good back then and didnt even know it.

It's very telling that their patent(s) was approved in early summer this year, just in time for an annual release. This CoD is literally them testing the waters with their new patented matchmaking, aiming, and bot technology; and they had the balls to charge full game price for a DLC knowing fanboys would eat this up. They knew if they released this as a DLC, the "testing pool" for players would be lower so they were hoping to cast a wider net by turning it into a full release after promising to switch to 2-year cycles.
I've practically unlocked all the items in the Armory and now I'm going on a ten-match losing streak. Fuck this fucking game. Instead of playing it, I'm reading the ToS.

If they ever change sbmm at all it’ll probably just be where they don’t force you into entirely new lobbies after a game or two with the players you were initially matched with.
Yesterday my entire party saw everything from complete and total packet loss to the point where anytime you faced an enemy your screen would lock up and you'd die, to getting stuck in windows half the time, and seeing people who must have been bots they were so bad unaware and their movement felt inorganic. Or we be stomping ass, half the lobby would get kicked, then a random person with 2 kills and 10 deaths would suddenly get 25 kills in a row without dying and then leave the lobby right at the end. It doesn't feel organic anymore.
I just wanna put this out there. If Treyarch and sledgehammer were given the option to take out SBMM, they would and i truly believe that. The peanut brains at IW would probably keep it in tho.

Activision/microsoft decides whether Sbmm stays in. Not the smaller developers. Sbmm is tied in with the financial division so it’s controlled directly by the big guys.
I’m extremely disappointed that there are no MW3 OG maps on a fing MW3 game. They could have taken the top 8 maps from the OG mw2 and mw3 and made a great game with a mixture of the best maps from each game. Why they didn’t think of this is beyond me

I seriously doubt they're going to speak on it. But if they do, it won't be in depth and will probably cause even more questions in their attempt to say as little as possible about it due to them just being extremely vague. Regardless, I doubt anything will change outside of them finally just acknowledging its existence IF they actually do speak on it.

I will be very surprised if Sledgehammer address SBMM since its probably something developed by Activision. I would even go so far as to say that the COD devs don't know the workings of the Activision matchmaking API, they just use whatever is supplied and packaged to them for their individual matchmaking components for the games...
Microsoft and Xbox probably has a lot to deal with this. I think they'll probably switch to the Trueskill SBMM that Microsoft uses in most of their multiplayer games. If this does happen I imagine the game will be back to prioritizing connection with a dash of SBMM. Which I'm hoping is the case.
I hope you are right - that notion sounds amazing and it would be the right way to go. I don’t think anyone is completely against SBMM, but in much smaller doses where it is present but plays second in terms of priority where ping and connection quality are the leading matchmaking criteria.
I highly highly doubt they’ll talk about it but it’s nice to think that the community actually made a impact for the better we’ll just have to wait and see.
It’s crazy back in my day when everybody got into Call of Duty for the first time you got your azz kicked in until you got good. This noob protection system won’t ever helped them improve either.
With the first AMA, I asked them to consider keeping lobbies together, I'm sure many others did too, and they replied, they're looking into it, I don't mind completion, but I do mind having my bandwidth, that I pay for throttled, if I do well, I shouldn't be punished, if they somehow change matchmaking which I really doubt they will, but revert it to "ping is king", maybe they could have a playlist, I still don't believe it'll happen

As someone who is very inconsistent with my skill sbmm is brutal. I go from decent lobbies to getting ramed in a game. It makes it even harder to work on my co sistancy cause i dont know it its just me of if sbmm has thrown me in a harder lobby. Its why ive mostly been playing zombies. I dont have to compete against the sbmm bs.
The only reason they're talking about it now is because they've been caught misleading players with bots. They've got no option but to tell us something.

If Activision simply talked about this system openly and how it operates, I'm sure most of the playerbase wouldn't be as against it. Then again, I think its only purpose is to ensure that lower skill players are more "engaged" with the bundle store so.
If they get rid of SBMM and it's verified it's gone, I'd consider actually buying the game. Every call of duty, for the most part, has super fun gameplay and that's never changed. SBMM is the only reason I quit the franchise, because I either have to reverse boost or play in a super high level bracket of SBMM (both of which are boring). Keep up the good work BT. The problem with the defense of "Just get better" is that for most of the existing human beings there is a Skill ceiling and that ceiling is different for every single human being on this planet. for some people that really low for some people its average and for some are really high. And SBMM does NOT place you into balanced lobbies wit same skill people, it places you into Lobbies where the enemy player are waaaaaay above your skill ceiling, just to knock you K/D and W/L down to 1.0 or lower.

I had this game recently where A player was legit walking around with a GOLD MCW camo but didn't know how to shoot with ADS or run/tac sprint, he's just walking around hip firing and I would assume he was a in noob lobby probably got alot more kills and then SBMM was like "shit man you're good, lets see how you can do against this lobby" and got put into a sweat lobby and man went 5/44 💀💀This matchmaking is a joke.

I’ve been playing a ton of enlisted lately. They don’t hide that they include bots in the lobby, no sbmm, and it’s tons of fun. Everything you unlock can be unlocked for free, game is free, and you don’t loose your progress each year.
They always cater to one extreme or the other either the noobs are happy or the pros are happy… It’s never catered to us middle of the pack people who work all day and just want to play a semi-competitive fun game in our downtime
Even if they don't tone down the sbmm, it's one step in the right direction. I haven't bought a COD since MW 2019. The sbmm was so disgusting I vowed to never contribute another dollar to Activision. I can't even imagine how terrible it is now. They almost had me with the nostalgia this year too by bringing back MWII maps but I knew it wouldn't make the game fun. You can create the best maps in the world and it means nothing if the lobbies are rigged. I will continue to support the content creators until changes are made!
Im over the whole $25 operator skin bundles. I never played CoD. (I was on other games like Metal Gear) MW2 was the first time I actually played a CoD game for a year, and I noticed something was wrong from the beginning. With A.I. bots in the lobby, Match making. Shadowbanned lobbies. I usually only play RANKED solo and it goes like this~ Monday: Casual Tuesday: sweat lobbies Wednesday: sweet lobbies with cheater (Report) Thursday: I think Im shadowbanned (at least 1 cheater every game) Friday: Activision says they're sorry for shadowbanning me so now lobbies look like this = All plats and diamonds on my team vs Bronze and silver noobs Dont play weekends Monday: repeat process
I still don’t understand how the Devs are getting away with SBMM. SBMM is a forum of cheating and implementing handicaps to their players! I normally don’t pull this card, but maybe the government needs to get involved. We pay money to play a game on equal ground and the Devs dictate which lobby we should be put in. Would they be able to get away with this toxic business practice in Vegas. Money is involved with these tournament which is gambling. Plus it make it illegal to cheat on these games with third-party software. It sad but this is the only way I can see the game being fixed.

the ping issue is simple, if higher skill player, game skips people around your area to match people of skill which means you might be playing people across the US of all ends to find the "SBMM" appropriate match causing ping and latency issues. that's pretty simple to understand. is it good? no its garbage and yes is still discrimitory. we get worse connections because of this algorithm. longer wait times, etc. but the concept is simple to understand. That's why back in the day in Halo and other games when you specifically chose to play ranked you agreed to potential longer wait times for the equalish skill match. they've made social an unlisted unseen ranked mode in a sense. And a lot of people don't understand it. Halo and MCC does the same thing. if you're upper skill level the game gives you worse teammates to "balance" you for a "fair match" and it just doesn't work. check out some of Mint Blitz for Halo Infinite and MCC videos about SBMM they hit the same criteria that Max Hoberman discussed and was addressing as well as COD community dealing with the same issue. You'll go 20+ and 7 deaths in a slayer match to have a teamate go 3 and 24 And the worst thing is in no way is that fun for retention for the player that was placed in a match where they were not even remotely on the same skill level to perform. SBMM can be even worse in Halo at the moment where you just can struggle to get a kill due to it's gameplay style.
SBMM has slowly destroyed the game. Everyone I know who played the game year in year out, have one by one left. Every other year one or two come back for a few weeks, get sick of all the BS and leave.
The game has code specifically to ensure equality. That's the only way I can rationalize the bs in this game. Take the map scrapyard(I only play Domination), if you camp the L shaped plane overlooking B and the middle of the map, they'll force spawn an enemy right next to you in the plane. You can have Betty's by the entrances w/a trophy system inside shooting anti armor bullets, occupying A and B and they'll still spawn them right behind you in the plane. This type of manipulation is mind games and should be illegal!

I’m extremely disappointed that there are no MW3 OG maps on a fing MW3 game. They could have taken the top 8 maps from the OG mw2 and mw3 and made a great game with a mixture of the best maps from each game. Why they didn’t think of this is beyond me

But if they do, it won't be in depth and will probably cause even more questions in their attempt to say as little as possible about it due to them just being extremely vague. Regardless, I doubt anything will change outside of them finally just acknowledging its existence IF they actually do speak on it.

I will be very surprised if Sledgehammer address SBMM since its probably something developed by Activision. I would even go so far as to say that the COD devs don't know the workings of the Activision matchmaking API, they just use whatever is supplied and packaged to them for their individual matchmaking components for the games...
Microsoft and Xbox probably has a lot to deal with this. I think they'll probably switch to the Trueskill SBMM that Microsoft uses in most of their multiplayer games. If this does happen I imagine the game will be back to prioritizing connection with a dash of SBMM. Which I'm hoping is the case.
I hope you are right - that notion sounds amazing and it would be the right way to go. I don’t think anyone is completely against SBMM, but in much smaller doses where it is present but plays second in terms of priority where ping and connection quality are the leading matchmaking criteria.

With the first AMA, I asked them to consider keeping lobbies together, I'm sure many others did too, and they replied, they're looking into it, I don't mind completion, but I do mind having my bandwidth, that I pay for throttled, if I do well, I shouldn't be punished, if they somehow change matchmaking which I really doubt they will, but revert it to "ping is king", maybe they could have a playlist, I still don't believe it'll happen

As someone who is very inconsistent with my skill sbmm is brutal. I go from decent lobbies to getting ramed in a game. It makes it even harder to work on my co sistancy cause i dont know it its just me of if sbmm has thrown me in a harder lobby. Its why ive mostly been playing zombies. I dont have to compete against the sbmm bs.
The only reason they're talking about it now is because they've been caught misleading players with bots. They've got no option but to tell us something.

If Activision simply talked about this system openly and how it operates, I'm sure most of the playerbase wouldn't be as against it. Then again, I think its only purpose is to ensure that lower skill players are more "engaged" with the bundle store so.

If they get rid of SBMM and it's verified it's gone, I'd consider actually buying the game. Every call of duty, for the most part, has super fun gameplay and that's never changed. SBMM is the only reason I quit the franchise, because I either have to reverse boost or play in a super high level bracket of SBMM (both of which are boring). Keep up the good work BT. Been watching you since 2008 and you're still the best CoD youtuber.

The problem with the defense of "Just get better" is that for most of the existing human beings there is a Skill ceiling and that ceiling is different for every single human being on this planet.
for some people that really low for some people its average and for some are really high.
And SBMM does NOT place you into balanced lobbies wit same skill people, it places you into Lobbies where the enemy player are waaaaaay above your skill ceiling, just to knock you K/D and W/L down to 1.0 or lower.

I had this game recently where A player was legit walking around with a GOLD MCW camo but didn't know how to shoot with ADS or run/tac sprint, he's just walking around hip firing and I would assume he was a in noob lobby probably got alot more kills and then SBMM was like "shit man you're good, lets see how you can do against this lobby" and got put into a sweat lobby and man went 5/44 💀💀This matchmaking is a joke.

I’ve been playing a ton of enlisted lately. They don’t hide that they include bots in the lobby, no sbmm, and it’s tons of fun. Everything you unlock can be unlocked for free, game is free, and you don’t loose your progress each year.
Off topic but can i tell you that your "Pandarmic" And "Stuck" lines always crack me up?
They always cater to one extreme or the other either the noobs are happy or the pros are happy… It’s never catered to us middle of the pack people who work all day and just want to play a semi-competitive fun game in our downtime
Even if they don't tone down the sbmm, it's one step in the right direction. I haven't bought a COD since MW 2019. The sbmm was so disgusting I vowed to never contribute another dollar to Activision. I can't even imagine how terrible it is now. They almost had me with the nostalgia this year too by bringing back MWII maps but I knew it wouldn't make the game fun. You can create the best maps in the world and it means nothing if the lobbies are rigged. I will continue to support the content creators until changes are made!

I never played CoD. (I was on other games like Metal Gear)
MW2 was the first time I actually played a CoD game for a year, and I noticed something was wrong from the beginning. With A.I. bots in the lobby, Match making. Shadowbanned lobbies.
I usually only play RANKED solo and it goes like this~
Monday: Casual
Tuesday: sweat lobbies
Wednesday: sweet lobbies with cheater (Report)
Thursday: I think Im shadowbanned (at least 1 cheater every game)
Friday: Activision says they're sorry for shadowbanning me so now lobbies look like this = All plats and diamonds on my team vs Bronze and silver noobs
Dont play weekends
Monday: repeat process
I still don’t understand how the Devs are getting away with SBMM. SBMM is a forum of cheating and implementing handicaps to their players!
I normally don’t pull this card, but maybe the government needs to get involved.
We pay money to play a game on equal ground and the Devs dictate which lobby we should be put in. Would they be able to get away with this toxic business practice in Vegas.
Money is involved with these tournament which is gambling.
Plus it make it illegal to cheat on these games with third-party software.
It sad but this is the only way I can see the game being fixed.

the ping issue is simple, if higher skill player, game skips people around your area to match people of skill which means you might be playing people across the US of all ends to find the "SBMM" appropriate match causing ping and latency issues. that's pretty simple to understand. is it good? no its garbage and yes is still discrimitory. we get worse connections because of this algorithm. longer wait times, etc. but the concept is simple to understand. That's why back in the day in Halo and other games when you specifically chose to play ranked you agreed to potential longer wait times for the equalish skill match. they've made social an unlisted unseen ranked mode in a sense. And a lot of people don't understand it. Halo and MCC does the same thing. if you're upper skill level the game gives you worse teammates to "balance" you for a "fair match" and it just doesn't work. check out some of Mint Blitz for Halo Infinite and MCC videos about SBMM they hit the same criteria that Max Hoberman discussed and was addressing as well as COD community dealing with the same issue. You'll go 20+ and 7 deaths in a slayer match to have a teamate go 3 and 24 And the worst thing is in no way is that fun for retention for the player that was placed in a match where they were not even remotely on the same skill level to perform. SBMM can be even worse in Halo at the moment where you just can struggle to get a kill due to it's gameplay style.
SBMM has slowly destroyed the game. Everyone I know who played the game year in year out, have one by one left. Every other year one or two come back for a few weeks, get sick of all the BS and leave.
Every ****ing survey I was sent from Xbox, I asked them to remove SBMM. We're all doing our part for the game we love. Keep pushing!
The game has code specifically to ensure equality. That's the only way I can rationalize the bs in this game. Take the map scrapyard(I only play Domination), if you camp the L shaped plane overlooking B and the middle of the map, they'll force spawn an enemy right next to you in the plane. You can have Betty's by the entrances w/a trophy system inside shooting anti armor bullets, occupying A and B and they'll still spawn them right behind you in the plane. This type of manipulation is mind games and should be illegal!
