- Welcome back!
In this video I'll be turning a commissioned wood bowl with a food safe finish and double dye the wood.
Not my color of choice but this was a commission for a friend of mine. His little girl had seen some of my work and wanted a bowl. So he asked if I could make her one that was pink and black as requested by her. I picked a blank of maple out of my stack that had some some figure to it, I'm currently running low on figured maple which is a bit of an issue. I used keda dye to dye it up and diluted the red best I could to get a pink color instead of red. Applied Generalfinishes wood bowl finish for a food safe gloss finish that will hold up to a child's usage. The figure in the wood wasn't the best for a dye up, but i'm sure she will be happy.

Very nice bowl...I like the color, but then my color is pink!
Hahaha, pink on wood just isn’t very common.
Thanks for sharing, nice Piece. I’m a beginner turner, lot of practicing for me. Full View and Like 👍
Welcome to the addiction and the never ending list of stuff to buy lol.
Very nice.
Thanks Jack!
Muhteşem olmuş.
That Keda dye really makes this piece!
Beautiful work
Thanks! I’m sure by now people can tell I love slinging some dye on wood 😉.
pink, not the easiest of colours .... nice job and great finish thanks for sharing
No, it isn’t. That’s what was the biggest hurdle when he said pink and black.
And thank you for watching!
Very nice, it really looks good when the light hits it a certain way. Thank you for sharing your video.
Gotta love chatoyancy in wood. Still after some Catalpa wood. From what I’ve seen it’s high it’s got high chatoyancy!
Another great piece! The finish turned out beautiful.
Thanks Marty!
Amazing piece! It turned out really good!
Thanks. Getting the pink was the hard part.
Nice work, but also amazing voice.
Hahaha thanks! And thanks for watching!
Interesting colour scheme Michael, I do not envy you to make a pink. I like what you came up with and the shape. Would watering down the dye (thinning) make for a lighter red? Just throwing ideas out there, I am still learning colours lol.
Keep on turning.
Cheers, Bluey 👍
That’s what I did. When using white it’s so opaque it’s hard to get it so you can see through it and normally you mix red with white for pink. So I went with the whiter maple wood for the white and just watered the red down.
@@EppsCreations oops silly me. Yes, it is hard to find a white transparent paint. Would a flow medium mix with those dyes?
The Keda dye is alcohol based so you can use either water or alcohol to dilute it. It’s already water thin so no need to dilute it.
It would be hard, you did great though. How does one thin an already thin dye without ruining the dye? A rhetorical question I guess. Thanks for the ideas on how to approach this too. So much to learn and viewing these vids help so much. Thanks for sharing.
Thinning is reducing the color. Instead of a concentrate dark color you get a lighter color. So say you have a deep dark blue. Thinning it will make it a bright light blue
Nice piece. What is the purpose/benefit of applying the sanding sealer?
You are a fine wood turner, but that the ugliest bowl i ever laid eyes on
