Toyota Corolla (2019-2024): Enabling Rear Brake Service Mode. EPB Actuator Release. No TechStream!

  • In this video, we will show how to enable the dedicated Service Mode for the rear brake replacement/service in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 12th-generation Toyota Corolla. Using the Service Mode will allow you to fully release the electric parking brake without any additional tools or software.
    PRODUCT LINKS:
    1. REAR BRAKE PADS FOR GEN12 COROLLA - BOSCH BC2183 QuietCast Premium Ceramic Disc Brake Pad Set - amzn.to/3xpyHsw.
    2. REAR BRAKE ROTORS FOR GEN12 COROLLA - Detroit Axle - Rear Brake Rotors for Toyota Corolla Prius Matrix Vibe Lexus CT200h [10.20" inch Rotors] - amzn.to/3vAZKQY.
    ENABLING THE SERVICE MODE:
    1. Turn the key to the Ignition ON position. In the case of vehicles with a push start button, press it twice.
    2. Press the brake pedal.
    3. Pull the electronic parking brake button 3 times.
    4. Push the electronic parking brake button 3 times.
    5. Release the brake pedal. The Park indicator on the dash should be flashing.
    6. Push and hold the electronic parking brake button. You will hear the motors located on the rear calipers of the Corolla unwinding all the way.
    Now the parking brake is fully released and you can service your rear brakes. You will be able to push in the piston all the way without the electric parking brake holding it. This will allow you to replace brake pads or do any other service on the brakes.
    DISABLING THE SERVICE MODE (Before disabling the service mode, make sure that the rear calipers are fully reinstalled otherwise your piston may fall out!):
    1. Pull and hold the electronic parking brake button. This will return the electric motor to the proper position. Wait until you stop hearing the parking brake motor noise in the back.
    2. Pull the electronic parking brake button once to engage the parking brake. You are done.
    The difference between using the Service Mode and simply pressing the parking brake button once to disengage the parking brake is the fact that in the Service Mode, it gets released completely allowing you to fully unwind the motor.

    What do you recommend, keep the parking brake activated and engaged or turn it off and deactivate it ?

  • @croitorudaniel9282
    @croitorudaniel9282 11 месяцев назад +1

    Just be careful! I have tried to change the rear pads. All good to the point I had to reset the breaks in the original position.
    First time changing on corolla, it took me some time to finish. The car somehow went in standby and I have pressed the start button to activate the dashboard. I have tried to pull the button but it keeps saying there is something faulty on the break system, obviously because of the pistons not being set to the 0 point. I have disconnected the battery hopping it's going reset the system but worse, right now the car don't even recognise even the key.
    Boot locked as well.
    You need to be quick enough to change the pads and have time to reset the breaks.

    • @croitorudaniel9282
      @croitorudaniel9282 11 месяцев назад

      As update :the dash board being on drain out the battery.
      The computer lost the sequence of the commands. I had to put the jump leads to give electricity and had to cancel the error with a diagnosis tool.
      If you use this method just be careful to have and external source of electricity until you finish the job.

    Got a question for you. Loving ur contents by the way. I have a manual corolla hatch witch I am thinking of autocrossing and start rallying and would like to disable all the safety assistants just for the fun of it. I know by holding the tc button I am able to diactivate the tc and the front collision assistants. Im not exactly sure if it deactivates the esc let me know if you know but I want to deactivate the esc, abs and the hill hold assistance. Would removing the abs fuse work without disrupting the brake balance? Thanks in advance.

      Pretty easy yes it does deactivate the esp if you hold it!
      Not the abs though,
      Just take the abs fuse out and it takes them all off traction abs esp

    I have a 2020 Toyota Corolla SE and I’m planing to change all the breaks do I need to do those steps before I change the rear brakes?

      Yes, you do. Otherwise, you won't be able to push the caliper piston in.

    This worked also for 2020 Rav4 w/ push to start. I started the procedure with vehicle off and parking brake in released position.
    Thank you for this help.

    Thank you very much!!I couldn’t understand the difference between the service mode and simply turning off the automatic e brake feature but you explained it beautifully in the last paragraph.If you were going away on a trip and stored your car in the garage,how long would you leave a car with the e parking brake applied before it became a problem like seizing on or something else?
