I feel like she had an inauthentic game. She made this conscious decision to try and be an aggressive player regardless of whether it was really working out for her. That she liked the idea of being a strong, aggressive, dominate poker player. No wonder she doesn’t play professionally anymore.
Well the thing is it probably worked out a lot in cash and to chip up early in tournaments. Regardless of buyin, most tournaments will have starting fields heavily weighted towards players outside their element that were just taking a stab. The hyper aggressive strategy will railroad those players when they have to decide for their tournament. Her reputation is used against her among other top players though. Even then her approach works because she can come off as polarized in every hand. I also think her game was less 'be hyper aggressive' and more playing the range/capped ranges game and would identify those high leverage spots to ship it in. The first hand in particular plays on this range bit because Kevin has to decide if she's ever running a bluff in that spot. He's never in good shape if the answer is 'no'. She turns the game on its head and makes the player decide 'are you fucking with me or do you really have it?'
Also she did graduate Yale law and is a hedge fund manager so like why play poker professionally when it causes frustration and you don’t need to live off of it
"Regardless of whether it was really working out for her" LOL? She won millions playing poker but thanks for your $10-Player opinion. Also, she quit poker to work for a hedge fund not because she couldnt beat the game.

"He goes after me every time. I don't know why" later on in the video, 6 bets with Jack 7 of diamonds against Aces. Yeah. Don't know why he was calling her all in so light with Ace 9.
According to her she can play however she wants (no matter how out of line), but if an opponent doesn’t play exactly by the book she throws a hissy fit
That hand with MacPhee was amazing Especially when she’s crying AFTER SHE 6 bet shoves pocket 44s Made me so happy seeing that Ace hit He knew well she was weak and A9 was definitely live
Well unfortunately you're all the way wrong in your assessments there. Her bad play with pocket 4s doesn't justify the absolutely atrocious line that the opponent went with after he had called a 6 bet shove pre-flop with a measly A 9 offset holding in UTG position. If you were being reasonably unbiased and impartial you would say that Macphee was playing like a total nit along with Selbst as well. Quit with the misogynistic results-oriented mindset bullcrap.
She had a good read that he was not on a pocket pair, therefor putting her ahead-getting it in pre-flop heads up with a pair vs a non pair is great. Also getting food equity is great. Good move. On the flip side, if he thinks she’s jamming with AX and better, then calling with that much money in the pot is positive EV play. Both players played each other right, although exposing yourself to variance like that in a tournament is tricky.
Oh me, oh my. 7:05 is a beautiful moment. I love the check re raise... and the face of pain following it. She was thinking she could still turn this around, only to hear a big nope half a second later. Oof.

"I thought he was a friend." Say what?? Friends in poker??? 🤔
@@c.s.mcleod7383 She played hard against him, but expected him to soft-play against her. So even lesbians expect special treatment vs males.

Whenever I feel like I am the worst poker player ever. I just keep rewatching this kind of videos to make me feel better. Thank you Vanessa. You are the best!
Lol
Would’ve been better ending it with “you are the worst!”
@@GrapplingwithPhysics 😉
LOLOLOL. Ain't that the truth! She makes me look like a pro. I just don't have the funds that they do!
@@sidmallory1070 You still would be trash at poker even if you were rich.
Fantastic video :D
I can watch videos of her losing everyday love them
Harsh but true

@Daan P Can "he" get a girl pregnant? No. So her.
I hate how Vanessa get mad after being called light. I mean what does she expect when she 3bets any 2
For the 10th year on a row, the Ray Guy award for best punter goes to Vanessa Selbst.
It’s too bad more people won’t get this reference because it’s fantastic
The commentators are absolutely amazing always
Vanessa losing lots of chips is always hilarious
I love seeing her blow her game up with stupid plays and then pulling a Junior Helmuth. It's hilarious.
I feel like she had an inauthentic game. She made this conscious decision to try and be an aggressive player regardless of whether it was really working out for her. That she liked the idea of being a strong, aggressive, dominate poker player. No wonder she doesn’t play professionally anymore.
Exactly she never changed to counter her image it seems. I j
Guess to much ego is bad thing after all
Well the thing is it probably worked out a lot in cash and to chip up early in tournaments.
@@wesayni so many people in poker comment sections think they’re good enough to play at the tables with them when in reality they’d get crushed
I love how she bullies preflop all in and gets called
Watching her lose is such a pleasant video to watch. I've seen it so many times and some times I just listen to the audio while I work
13:25
I have rewound the video over 400 times and I can now officially confirm that he was in fact laughing.
...and the denies it! Too funny
Like bruh who wouldn't laugh, it's literal comedy gold and he had a front row seat to witness it.
Just imagine it, it's funny for us watching it through a youtube video, imagine actually being there 😂😂😂
Do you people know anything about human interaction. She was smiling and laughing towards him. Embarrassed obviously and he was smiling and laughing with her. What he meant to say is he’s not laughing at her
Liv was such a babe in the first clip. Lol.
Young liv😍
Prob left Selbst after that bad play
@@mynameisabe905 I think commentary said Liv was dating the guy in the hand, but the three of them were friends.
There is a special on her on some odd Samsung TV cable channel . Also have aired other poker players as well, Moneymaker, Selbst, etc. Very smart lady.
How are you after all this time? It just seems like a month ago you commented.
"I have a very aggressive image and Im known for overplaying marginal hands"
*players make loose calls against Doug Polk because of that image
Doug Polk: *suprised Pikachu face
Watching Selbst lose is one of the best things in poker. Hard to find a more douchy person than her.
Really cause I didn’t get that from this video. Although I see there’s a ton of haters but after reading the comments I’m beginning to think there’s another reason people are hating. She’s won bracelets so she’s a good player.
@@davidwooderson5926 Her stupid hair-do, the bratty whining for the camera, and I even hate the way she stacks her chips.

I love watching her lose.
she loses 24/7 dont worry have a nice day
The Magician always happens to see it all live… Lucky guy
"He goes after me every time. I don't know why" later on in the video, 6 bets with Jack 7 of diamonds against Aces. Yeah. Don't know why he was calling her all in so light with Ace 9.
Obviously Prahlad had aces, but if he had been holding A9 there; he also would have won all 3 runs.
"I six-bet shove on him with garbage, but I don't know why he's always going after me."
..and he only has aces.”
That jack seven shove was hilarious
One thing is for sure, when everyone knows you’ll 6 bet shove with nothing, you can tighten up your game and start getting paid off big
This never gets old!!
Just curious why you hate on her? Jealousy?
4:24 his face says it all 😂😂😂
Her play and analysis of her hands is comical.
She has such a bad reputation you almost have to call her everytime
Female version of Phil Helmuth
Minus all the accolades
I love watching squelbts lose almost as much as hellmuth.
I didn’t know Doug Polk changed his name ☠️😂🔥
Love it
I'm not a poker player...but the hand against Sands was almost as though she wanted to go home. Brutal!
So, her definition of a friend is someone who lets her win at the table? SMH
Vannesa driving a rocketship into the sun🚀 🌞
Phil Laak: "She has Ace King or Kings"
He hasn't been paying attention 😂😂😂
Twenty two thousand four hundred. Phil, you’re annoying.
According to her she can play however she wants (no matter how out of line), but if an opponent doesn’t play exactly by the book she throws a hissy fit
Finally found my cheer-me-up video.
"He checked, and she just shipped it." I love Antonio ;)
She’s just one of those players you love seeing lose,
She?
That 7 5 play was rough 😂😂
What a huge river check by Sands. Dude is underrated. Risky move and she took the bait. Great play.
She was being the aggressor so to check there is a perfect move because if he raised or went all in she might have folded
That hand with MacPhee was amazing
Especially when she’s crying AFTER SHE 6 bet shoves pocket 44s
Made me so happy seeing that Ace hit
He knew well she was weak and A9 was definitely live
Well unfortunately you're all the way wrong in your assessments there. Her bad play with pocket 4s doesn't justify the absolutely atrocious line that the opponent went with after he had called a 6 bet shove pre-flop with a measly A 9 offset holding in UTG position. If you were being reasonably unbiased and impartial you would say that Macphee was playing like a total nit along with Selbst as well. Quit with the misogynistic results-oriented mindset bullcrap.
@@djshuffl3rif you think about it tho.... what do you know??
Oof.
YESSS finally a new video of “ She’s a Man Baby” losing 😂😂 I bet a lot of us were waiting for this 800%

i like how Esfandiari calls out both her bad plays on the last 2 clips lmfao and he laughs in her face at 13:26 hahaha love watching esfandiari play poker
He even does finger guns when Friedman 5bets,he KNEW he has aces.
Those flushes be coming in out of nowhere . I’ve lost many times to missing the read
she doesnt get that everything you do at the poker table conveys information, you cant be loosey goosey eating a sandwich and shove 44
The Phil Hellmuth of women poker players , just love watching both of them lose .
They should get together and cry on each other's shoulders. "How could we possibly lose when we think everyone else is so stupid. Whaaaaa". Fug them both but man I love to watch them lose.
Now that you mention it, there is no recorded hand between these 2.
Phil always gets screwed on the turn and river though. He plays good hands. This idiot goes all in with double 4s. Major difference.
