Vanessa, all day every day. He raised out of turn on the flop, basically guaranteeing he had a set. His entire demeanor was screaming "I have a huge hand!" and she still raised all-in. Vanessa always punted. If she could've controlled her game she would've been a really great player, but the punting destroyed everything.
This makes no sense. Vanessa always punted? Yea she definitely made a bad play here but your kinda speaking out of your ass. Hellmuth: want to run it 3 times? Ivey: Uhh, no. Mercier: i only have ace high, wanna run it twice? Ivey: naa im only running it once Thats why i love Ivey. I never understood why people so far ahead would run it multiple times. Why give the underdog that many more chances to hit? Is it just to keep it friendly or something? Surely it cant be because of variance.
Bro it's literally the same % whether they're super ahead or super behind, 87% is 87%. By running it twice you are halving the amount of variance i.e halving the amount of hands you have to play to "realise" your expected value
@@jackbrady9738 i just read an article that says whether you run it once, twice or ten times your odds stay the same. It said running it twice is like playing the one hand today and running into the exact situation tomorrow. So it seems youre correct. My question is how/why? I cant remember the hands and dont want to go back through the video so ill just use this as an example. Say Player 1 flops a flush draw and gets it all in. Player 2 calls. They decide to run it twice. Player 1 obviously has the 9 outs to hit his flush and win. He bricks the first board. Would his odds of hitting a flush on the second board not go up bc he has those same 9 outs with 4 less cards in the deck? I dont see how that can be the same as playing the hand today and again tomorrow bc the underdogs odds to hit his flush go up on the second board. Right? Im generally curious on why this isnt the case so if you have the time could you explain it? Because in my mind running it twice always gave the underdog better odds to win bc he has the same outs with less cards in the deck.
@@mydogniko i never thought about that. say it came the opposite however, and the flush hit 2 of their cards. when they run it the second time they only have 7 of their outs remaining. so i think it evens out- im not sure though, you may be right. great thinking
@@jackbrady9738 youre point is valid. Thats why when its a flip or 60-40 i can see running it twice. But i always thought people did it for 2 main reasons. 1- to keep it more friendly. Most of these guys are friends and losing large pots suck and 2- so if the person ahead does lose on the first draw, variance says he should win on the second draw and they chop. Its a way to ensure getting sucked out on doesnt screw you over. However, my point is dont you want to get it in as a 4:1 favorite? If you lose you lose but why give the dog a second or 3rd chance to chop, when each time running it betters his chances? Thats how ive always seen it. All that being said youve seen the video where hellmuth runs it 4 times against the amateur guy that doesnt play well right? Cant remember his name. Hellmuth lost 3 out of 4 when the guy had like 5 outs total or something crazy. One of my favorite videos bc everyone just eats into Phil lol. Edit: Hellmuth vs Ernest Wiggins is the clip i was referring to. Just popped up in the YT algorithm.
@@mydogniko I'll give you an example. Let's say we're betting on dice, and it's impossible for the die to land on the same side more than once. If you need it to land on a 6, and I say we roll it 6 times, that means I'm guaranteed to win 5/6, and you'll win once. If we only roll once, you could win and although you're a giant underdog.
@4:00 daniels being all loosey goosey eating a sandwich, you gotta understand that even when you're not in a pot, everything you do at the poker tables conveys information
When players at a table ask me a question, I give an answer that has nothing to do with the question/ For example when Selbst asked Do you have a good hand, I would answer "My favorite dog's name was Tasha".
Everybody knows that Guy Laliberte was the sitting duck at that table. They were just waiting for the right moment to get all his chips and it was Doyle that got that chance.
Boneta move is just way too funny. The way he watch at Laak before unleashing is "I'm allin". And then "good read". This is way beyond anything we ever saw.
8:50 shows how talented Ivey is at sizing up an opponent's current disposition. Even with Laak chattering in the background. Incredible focus without showing it.
@12:36. Gabe is GOAT commentator .( On Jamie Gold's had ) " He is surrounded by Aces. Aces to the left of him , Aces to the right . And a better Jack in the middle "
That last hand was pure torture lmao gave me so much anxiety. The two queens, Negreanu rubbing in on your left, pros watching, family watching at home, on TV you lost +200k in the dumbest way possible. Sweating cold handing money you can't afford away. Ouch
And off the felt they are worse. Small stakes for some of those guys there. Millions in swings online and 3k6k plo they played regularly in 2009. Utter disrespect is putting it mildly.
I remember the Hellmuth Ivey hand from years back. Hellmuth was on massive tilt from the hands before. I think he was down $50k or something after 3 hands with AJ or better. No way anyone gets away from a Jack high flush draw and open ended straight draw on that board, in that kind of mood, after raising pre-flop. The Rolex hand is a hilarious classic. Vintage Chan. I feel Doug Polk could have mustered a fold against Ruffin though.
Not just that, after that initial bleeding of the stack, he somehow lost minimum against nuts v sec nuts. Then, this happened. There is no way anyone is not going broke here.
It had nothing to do with being generous. Chan didn't want the variance risk of Boneta getting lucky on him. Then after offering to go twice he realized that if he just went 3 times, he could pretty much bank a 90k profit minimum everytime, as Boneta will never get 2/3. He'll still usually win it all, but this way he guarantees himself a big profit on the hand.
Best move was the Mercier 3bet cause he has a crap ton of equity with a wheel draw and backdoor nut hearts. Selbst was a punt, but because they all know Ruffin is a whale, she leveled herself like us mid stakes grinders vs an OMC 😭
Her trying to convince herself the guy, who was so excited he acted out of turn, was making a move really reminded me of myself like 10 years ago. Dusted off a lot of stacks trying to convince myself shit that there is no way on earth is happening.
With mercier I think the best play is to call ivey's raise bcz you are never going all in with any of the over pairs in case ivey is raising with some stupid hand bcz there are literally no draws on that board other than 45 which mercier blocks. The ruffin hand is not a punt I saw him making crazy stupid plays all over the episodes. he is the kind of guy that doesnt fold top pair. So with an overpair as played you have to go broke in that spot.
@@onedayatatime007 I don't even understand how he acted out of turn. If Antonio had checked originally and Ruffin bet then I'd understand him not knowing Antonio was in the hand. But he literally called a bet from Antonio. Did he forget how his $17k got in the middle in the first place? lmao

Depending when a player calls another player’s all-in, they can decide to play out the hand more than once. If it’s after the flop, and both players agree to “run it twice”, they will have the dealer deal out the “turn” & “river” cards twice. That gives each player a chance to win one o the hands, and would be able to continue playing more hands, instead of losing all of the money they had bet in the “all-in”, if it’s only “run once.” They wouldn’t be able to do that in a poker tournament, but in cash games (like the ones in this clip), the players can agree to “run it” more than the standard one time. Sometimes, when one player calls another’s all-in, you might see the player who has the better hand when they turn their cards over, before the “turn” or “river” cards are dealt, ask the other player how many times they want to “run it.” It gives the player who has the lesser hand showing a chance to not lose all of their all-in bet, and continue to keep playing in the game without having to “re-buy” back into the game, if they’ve just “busted”(lost all of their initial buy-in money). I think I’ve explained it correctly, but I’m just a fan. There might be a better way to explain it, and there’s a whole bunch of jargon to Texas Hold ‘Em, particularly in the betting terminology. There’s definitely websites & yt videos out there dedicated to all kinds of poker games.
Idk if the first clip with Gus and Daniel is a fail or punt at all. Just Daniel being Daniel preflop and Gus having no reason to think he's back on that flop with an over pair.
3:45/ 3:46 - I didn't notice Hansen's shaky hand when putting down the cash until just now. It's amazing how much of that solid poker face and solid body language just leaves the body after losing a huge all-in.

If I remember that Lalberte used to give most of his winnings to charity’s or he set up some foundation where he put his winnings into to help children?🤔
Big mistake by Vanessa. You don't go all-in on a player that insta-re-raised you out of turn. Like Norm said, that's a red flag! You're opponent likely has you beat... and in that situation, my guess would be by a set or two pair.
Phil Ivey vs Mercier, I feel like Phil got a huge live tell from him when he waved those chips towards him leading to his call. Could be wrong though but definitely looked like some Phil Ivey magic.

Hellmuth: want to run it 3 times?
Ivey: Uhh, no.
Mercier: i only have ace high, wanna run it twice?
Ivey: naa im only running it once
Thats why i love Ivey.

With mercier I think the best play is to call ivey's raise bcz you are never going all in with any of the over pairs in case ivey is raising with some stupid hand bcz there are literally no draws on that board other than 45 which mercier blocks.

What do they mean when they say run it again, two times, three times etc?
